The Math Teaching-Learning Process in Inclusion

Carine,Leves  著
Ingram 出版
2024/05/26 出版

This book seeks to make a reflective analysis of the teaching strategies and methodologies to be applied in mainstream classrooms, where students with special educational needs are included, in order to understand and also contribute to the teaching-learning process of mathematics in basic education, thus providing the effective inclusion of these students. In this way, when analyzing the teaching-learning process, issues relating to the perspectives of the inclusive school were analyzed, making an analysis relating to curricular adaptation, turning the gaze of this discussion to the essential role of the teacher. Research was also carried out in order to find/improve teaching methodologies capable of enriching/favoring the understanding of mathematics for students with special educational needs, not forgetting assessment, understood here in this research as an integral part of the entire teaching-learning process. In this sense, a bibliographical survey was carried out, seeking a better understanding of the teaching-learning process of mathematics, with the aim of making the effective inclusion of these students possible.

The Ideology of Work

Ingram 出版
2024/05/25 出版

In On the Reproduction of Capitalism, Louis Althusser cited an appendix which, it seems, remains lost or was never completed. This appendix was titled 'the Ideology of Work'. This book takes inspiration from this appendix, to think about what is at stake for both Marxism and sociology in analysing work from an Althusserian perspective today. The dominant form of this ideology of work today is theoretical humanism. This book demonstrates how theoretical humanism has undermined the analysis of work and makes the case for a Marxism in sociology with a committed theoretical anti-humanism at the forefront of its endeavour.

Authentic

Ingram 出版
2024/05/06 出版

A bold call to rethink authenticity at work Workplace dynamics in recent years have been a dizzying storm of broken promises. Companies that once encouraged employees to "come as you are" and bring your full, authentic self to work are now shutting down initiatives, part of an ongoing cycle of trading on our identities when it's convenient and profitable. Jodi-Ann Burey, writer and critic known for her TED talk "The Myth of Bringing Your Full, Authentic Self to Work," delves into the dangers of disclosure in environments that aren't built for our well-being. With insights from pop culture, academic research, and interviews with other professionals of color, Burey argues that we deserve better than shallow ploys for representation. Our physical and emotional health are at risk, and too much is sacrificed--for ourselves and for collective progress--when our full potential is blocked by racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. Authentic is a powerful reckoning--and now is the time to reclaim our agency. Even at work.

Beyond Profit & Productivity

Ingram 出版
2024/05/05 出版

Workplace culture is your key to exceptional success in business. In fact, culture is equally important as strategic vision, effective business processes, and your value proposition. This book provides a road map to optimal culture. It tells you how to create one that truly sets your organization apart. Today, there is an incredibly tight labor market, resulting in record-low unemployment numbers and massive churn in the workforce. Modern large workplaces too often feel soul-sucking... joyful learning never happens... enthusiastic teamwork and playful innovation are gone... labor is bought, but hearts are on strike. These places have massive competitive disadvantages. They lose productivity and profitability. They have poor customer service, lots of absenteeism, and are followers, playing catch-up to the companies that truly innovate. These businesses are where the "get up and go!" got up and left a long time ago. The popular press is calling this period "The Great Resignation." Droves of workers are leaving their employers looking for something better. What is better? Rarely is it articulated this succinctly, but put simply, people want to be happier at work. This book is a wake-up call for organizations of all sizes. Can our businesses step past sort-term quarterly profits and instead see a grander vision? Can business be a force for good not only for the people in the workforces, but for the world? Can happiness and well-being be the vision that propels some organizations to greatness? Look inside for an incredibly practical, action-oriented recipe to build your thriving workplace culture. In this book you'll learn how workforce well-being, culture, and worker engagement are inseparable from these other more traditional business concerns. Happiness means creativity, productivity, effectiveness, and profitability. Happiness means business!

Built with Purpose

Bill,Roark  著
Ingram 出版
2024/05/02 出版

Why would you want to work at a company you don't own?Built with Purpose is the story of Bill Roark realizing his dream. After losing his job and vowing to never experience that again, Roark, along with a team of talented entrepreneurial engineers, set out to challenge the status quo by building a company whose success benefits everyone who works there-not just the founders. Every single employee earns the opportunity to become an owner. From its evolution as a single entity, Torch Technologies has evolved into a growing family of businesses operating under the umbrella of Starfish Holdings. (When a starfish loses a limb, it can grow another one). This business model has created substantial wealth for hundreds of its employee-owners, who have also been empowered to make substantial contributions to their community. Just as important, the Torch story demonstrates how a business can be built on a foundation that will allow the business to persist and thrive for 100 years or more. The traditional way of growing a business, where just a handful of founders get wealthy, is outdated. The Torch story validates that there is a better way to build a business-one where everyone is truly engaged and invested in working toward the long-term success of the company-while also keeping generosity as a core value. At Torch, where employees feel secure in their work, they have time and energy to give to others in their community. Only a few other companies owned by their employees have achieved the same level of success as Torch/Starfish. This real-life case study stands apart from other business books by academics or entrepreneurs who have built successful companies in more traditional ways. Business leaders, public servants looking for ways to tackle the growing wealth gap in the U.S., and readers of all genres will rethink what a business is capable of after reading about how Bill Roark's dream was born and sustained-and the difference it has made for the many who share in its purpose.Bill Roark is the cofounder of Torch Technologies, Inc. (Torch), the founder and CEO of Starfish Holdings. Inc, the parent company of Torch, and the founder of Freedom Real Estate & Capital, LLC. Bill has also been involved as a business coach in a local brewery, Yellowhammer Brewery, (www.yellowhammerbrewery.com). Over the years, he and his wife Brenda have made multiple investments to help the brewery grow and expand. He has also helped them expand into distilling a fine bourbon and other spirits. While he neither brews nor distills, he remains an active business advisor/owner. Yellowhammer brews are local favorites.

Stand Out

Dorie,Clark  著
Portfolio 出版
2024/04/30 出版

In a noisy world where it seems everything's been said--and shouted from the rooftops--how can your ideas stand out? Too many people believe that if they keep their heads down and work hard, they'll be recognized on the merits of their work. But that's simply not true anymore. "Safe" jobs disappear daily, and the clamor of everyday life drowns out ordinary contributions. To make a name for yourself, to create true job security, and to make a difference in the world, you have to share your unique perspective and inspire others to take action. Drawing on interviews with more than fifty thought leaders in fields ranging from business to genomics to urban planning, Dorie Clark shows how these masters achieved success and how anyone--with hard work--can do the same. Whether it's learning to ask the right questions, developing and building on an expert niche, or combining disparate fields to get a new perspective, Clark outlines ways to develop the ideas that set you apart. Of course, having a breakthrough insight is only half the battle. If you really want to share your ideas, you have to find a way to build an audience, communicate your message, and inspire others to embrace your vision. Starting small is fine; Clark provides a step-by-step guide to help you leverage your existing networks, attract new people to your cause, and, ultimately, build a community around your ideas. Featuring vivid examples based on interviews with influencers such as Seth Godin, David Allen, and Daniel Pink, Clark shows you how to break through and ensure that your ideas get noticed. Becoming a thought leader in your company or in your profession is the ultimate career insurance. But--even more important--it's also a chance to change the world for the better. Whatever your cause, perspective, or point of view, the world can't afford for the best ideas to remain buried inside you. Whether it's how to improve the educational system or how to make your company more efficient, your ideas matter. The world needs your insights, and it's time to be bold.

Determinants of accounting students' performance

Ingram 出版
2024/04/28 出版

Of the 772 accounting courses evaluated by ENADE/2006, only six obtained the highest score. The central question of this investigation is to identify some variables that determine the performance of Accounting courses in the aforementioned exam. The empirical-analytical methodology used was multivariate regression analysis, with the aim of identifying the relationship between student performance and socio-economic status. To this end, course concepts were used, as well as socio-economic information obtained from the database of the National Institute for Studies and Research An穩sio Teixeira (Inep). The results showed that the student's level of education prior to entering a higher education institution is the variable with the greatest influence on course performance. Next, in descending order, are the father's schooling, personal effort on the course and family income as the most influential variables in the econometric model developed. On the other hand, the variable that captures the type of institution the student attended in high school was not very significant.

Negotiating While Black

G.P. 出版
2024/04/25 出版

Winner of the 2024 "Most Useful" Book by the Non-Obvious Book Awards A real-world, one-of-a-kind resource for anyone who has ever been underestimated, overlooked, or misunderstood at the negotiating table. There's no shortage of negotiation books that advise you to "get to yes," urge you to "never split the difference," and push you to "ask for more." But these one-size-fits-all negotiation techniques disregard the reality of our complex, multifaceted, multicultural world, where snap judgements are made based on perceived differences. When bias lies behind every negotiation, the only constant is you. Learn to leverage who you are--and gain the upperhand. Negotiating While Black is the indispensable guide that lawyer and mediator Damali Peterman wishes had existed earlier, as she navigated workplaces as the only Black woman, advocated for her children attending predominantly white schools, and mediated countless other bias-ridden settings. Drawing on these experiences together with decades of wisdom as a trained negotiator in high-stakes situations, Peterman has developed successful strategies notably absent from other top negotiation books--tactics that work for all people, no matter your identity. From the Foundational Five skills to the Negotiation Superpowers, these tried-and-true techniques will lift you to the next level of winning. Whether negotiating in the boardroom or in everyday life, Peterman shows how everything is potentially up for discussion--even when stakes (and emotions) are high. You can't control bias, but by being yourself, you actually have a better shot at getting what you want. Because when you arrive prepared and proud of who you are, you'll reap the rewards.

Deaf pupils in mainstream schools

2024/04/16 出版

This book discusses the process that a deaf pupil is going through in maths lessons at a mainstream school, whether it is inclusion or integration. The author seeks to understand the historical conceptions of the deaf, to get used to the main differences between inclusion and integration in order to be able to identify the process that the student is undergoing. The discussions, which are referenced within the legislation in force, provided an opportunity to check whether or not the proposals set out therein are being complied with and how they have been understood in theory and practice within the school unit. The text aims to highlight several important aspects that need to be reviewed in relation to the inclusion of deaf people in mainstream schools, showing the need to develop different actions so that secondary education in a mainstream school can become a teaching-learning space that meets the visual, linguistic and cultural needs of deaf people.

Breaking Ground

Ingram 出版
2024/04/15 出版

The construction industry has historically been male-dominated due to societal expectations and biases, specifically around the physical demands of the job, as well as a lack of role models and mentors. Breaking Ground addresses the scarcity of women in construction and demonstrates how we can overcome these challenges. Exploring the multifaceted relationship between gender and the construction industry, the authors examine the industry's economic, social, and environmental impacts, challenges faced by the workforce and the specific obstacles that contribute to a lesser involvement of women in the field. Outlining strategies to bridge this gap, they further address the empowerment of women within the industry, discussing cultural and environmental factors that shape their professional experiences and the ways in which women's participation and leadership can be increased. Applying these insights on a global scale, the authors conclude by comparing the status of women in the construction industries in Europe, Asia, and Africa, analysing the unique cultural factors affecting their empowerment and mentorship in different regions. Offering a wealth of insights for academic disciplines ranging from gender and economic studies to sociology and sustainability, this seminal work subverts all expectations to encourage and empower women to break ground both literally and figuratively.

Where Shrimp Eat Better Than People

Ingram 出版
2024/04/05 出版

East, South and Southeast Asia are home to two-thirds of the world's hungry people, but they produce more than three-quarters of the world's fish and nearly half of other foods. Through integration into the world food system, these Asian fisheries export their most nutritious foods and import less healthy substitutes. Worldwide, their exports sell cheap because women, the hungriest Asians, provide unpaid subsidies to production processes. In the 21st century, Asian peasants produce more than 60 percent of the regional food supply, but their survival is threatened by hunger, public depeasantization policies, climate change, land grabbing, urbanization and debt bondage. *Where Shrimp Eat Better than People: Globalized Fisheries, Nutritional Unequal Exchange and Asian Hunger is now available in paperback for individual customers.

Global Rupture

Anita,Hammer  著
Ingram 出版
2024/04/05 出版

Global Rupture makes a key intervention in debates on informal and precarious labour. Increasing recognition that informal and precarious labour is an enduring reality under neo-liberal capitalism, and the norm globally, rather than the exception has ignited debates around analytical frames, activist strategies and development interventions. This pathbreaking volume provides a corrective through drawing upon theoretically informed rich case studies from the world outside of North America, Europe, and Australasia. Each contribution converges on the enduring and expanding significance of informal and precarious work within the Global South--the most significant factor in preventing a worldwide decent work agenda. *Global Rupture: Neoliberal Capitalism and the Rise of Informal Labour in the Global South is now available in paperback for individual customers.
