Come Sing with Ti Netty
Over the years I have grown tired of choirs and cultural groups singing the same folk songs over and over. Being a lover of folk songs and having learnt so many throughout my lifetime, I thought it was time to stop complaining about the overused folk songs and document some of those that I had learnt from older folks. People like James Murray of Pembroke, J.D. Elder of Charlotteville, Lifroy Moses of Canaan, Vernon Dennis of Mason Hall, Adolphus "Boyo" James of Patience Hill, Margaret Bobb of Plymouth, Kelvin "Django" George of Scarborough, Daphne Cuffie and Fitz-James Williams of Trinidad (all deceased) and Rollins Bacchus of Culloden. Tobago. It has been a pleasure for me to embark on this project, as I believe it is long overdue in our cultural environment. I asked myself, does it make sense going back to my Maker with all these songs in my head? The answer is no. So, I present to you this book, Come Sing with Ti Netty.
Transcultural Sound Practices
Listening to the sound practices of bands and musicians such as the Asian Dub Foundation or M.I.A., and spanning three decades of South Asian dance music production in the UK, Transcultural Sound Practices zooms in on the concrete sonic techniques and narrative strategies in South Asian dance music and investigates sound as part of a wider assemblage of cultural technologies, politics and practices. Carla J. Maier investigates how sounds from Hindi film music tunes or bhangra tracks have been sampled, cut, looped and manipulated, thus challenging and complicating the cultural politics of sonic production. Rather than conceiving of music as a representation of fixed cultures, this book engages in a study of music that disrupts the ways in which ethnicity has been written into sound and investigates how transcultural sound practices generate new ways of thinking about culture.
The Definitive Diva
Maria Callas was, perhaps, the greatest opera singer of the 20th century. Hers was a life lived on the world stage, and her fame extended to the public consciousness of many parts of the world. Even after her mysterious death in 1977, her singing and acting continue to thrill new generations of opera fans thanks to her many recordings and her fascinating life. This new biography of Callas tells her story from difficult beginnings as the daughter of Greek immigrants to New York City in 1923 to her wonderful performances at La Scala, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera. Callas was quite a diva and a master at creating a captivating public image. She also became notorious because of her very public affair with Aristotle Onassis, the wealthy ship-owner who left Callas to marry Jacqueline Kennedy.
Saint-Sa禱ns and the Stage
The stage works of Saint-Sa禱ns range from grand open-air pageants to one-act comic operas, and include the first composed film score. Yet, with the exception of Samson et Dalila, his twelve operas have lain in the shadows since the composer's death in 1921. Widely performed in his lifetime, they vanished from the repertory - never played, never recorded - until now. With four twenty-first-century revivals as a backdrop, this timely book is the first study of Saint-Sa禱ns's operas, demonstrating the presence of the same breadth and versatility as in his better known works. Hugh Macdonald's wide knowledge of French music in the nineteenth century gives a powerful understanding of the different conventions and expectations that governed French opera at the time. The interaction of Saint-Sa禱ns with his contemporaries is a colourful and important part of the story.
Opera in Postwar Venice
Beginning from the unlikely vantage point of Venice in the aftermath of fascism and World War II, this book explores operatic production in the city's nascent postwar culture as a lens onto the relationship between opera and politics in the twentieth century. Both opera and Venice in the middle of the century are often talked about in strikingly similar terms: as museums locked in the past and blind to the future. These clich矇s are here overturned: perceptions of crisis were in fact remarkably productive for opera, and despite being physically locked in the past, Venice was undergoing a flourishing of avant-garde activity. Focusing on a local musical culture, Harriet Boyd-Bennett recasts some of the major composers, works, stylistic categories and narratives of twentieth-century music. The study provides fresh understandings of works by composers as diverse as Stravinsky, Prokofiev, Verdi, Britten and Nono.
Mellifluous Meetings
'Mellifluous Meetings: A Measure of Music in the Multifaceted Jazz Community' follows the life of jazz drummer Darius Robaire as he entangles himself into a diverse and occasionally calamitous community of musicians, agents, artists, drug dealers and women. The character, half rooted in reality and half forged in fiction, is sometimes misinterpreted as callous but his true nature is revealed in the way reveres his family, friends, and musical community in which he surrounds himself. But don't take our word...read up and judge for yourself!
Fiddle Tunes from Mississippi
In 2015 University Press of Mississippi published Mississippi Fiddle Tunes and Songs from the 1930s by Harry Bolick and Stephen T. Austin to critical acclaim and commercial success. Roughly half of Mississippi's rich, old-time fiddle tradition was documented in that volume and Harry Bolick has spent the intervening years working on this book, its sequel. Beginning with Tony Russell's original mid-1970s fieldwork as a reference, and later working with Russell, Bolick located and transcribed all of the Mississippi 78 rpm string band recordings. Some of the recording artists like the Leake County Revelers, Hoyt Ming and His Pep Steppers, and Narmour & Smith had been well known in the state. Others, like the Collier Trio, were obscure. This collecting work was followed by many field trips to Mississippi searching for and locating the children and grandchildren of the musicians. Previously unheard recordings and stories, unseen photographs and discoveries of nearly unknown local fiddlers, such as Jabe Dillon, John Gatwood, Claude Kennedy, and Homer Grice, followed. The results are now available in this second, companion volume, Fiddle Tunes from Mississippi: Commercial and Informal Recordings, 1920-2018. Two hundred and seventy musical examples supplement the biographies and photographs of the thirty-five artists documented here. Music comes from commercial recordings and small pressings of 78 rpm, 45 rpm, and LP records; collectors' field recordings; and the musicians' own home tape and disc recordings. Taken together, these two volumes represent a delightfully comprehensive survey of Mississippi's fiddle tunes.

Knowing the Song
Starting with the New Zealand Supplement to With One Voice in 1982, the New Zealand Hymnbook Trust has worked faithfully to make the best contemporary, local hymns available to churches and choirs in our country. Their key music books - Alleluia Aotearoa (1993); Carol Our Christmas (1996); Faith Forever Singing (2000) and Hope Is Our Song (2009) - are all still popular and remain in print today. In this Companion, world-renowned New Zealand hymn composer, Colin Gibson, tells the stories of how the hymns in these books came to be written and of the tunes to which they have been set, alongside biographies of the hymnwriters and composers.Ministers, preachers, worship leaders, church musicians and choir members will find a wealth of material in the Companion to entertain and inform them, and to share with their congregations. For ease of reference the Companion includes indexes of Hymn Names and First Lines, Scripture sources and Tune Names. For the first time, Gibson has compiled a Finding List of New Zealand Hymn Writing which records the many hymnbooks and other publications that hymns by New Zealand composers have appeared in, both in this country and overseas. Other appendices include a list of publications in which our hymnwriters and hymns are discussed, and a brief history of the Hymnbook Trust.Knowing The Song - Review by Rev Gary Clover, March 2022."Otago University Professor-Emeritus Colin Gibson's Knowing The Song is a huge gift to New Zealand's choral, cultural and church life. I recently awoke to Robyn Jaquiery, compere of Radio New Zealand's "Hymns on Sunday," in an early morning broadcast lauding its praises for its information. Beginning with Thomas Bracken's 1877 publication of "God of Nations" (today New Zealand's own national anthem), and "Te Harinui," Willow Mackay's perennially popular Christmas carol of 1957, through to the present-day hymns and sacred songs of world-renowned composers like Shirley Erena Murray, Colin Gibson, himself, and David and Dale Garratt, there has been since the early 1980s an explosion of quality New Zealand hymn writing, invaluable for locally-grounded congregational worship. The Hymnbook Trust's productions have been in the forefront of publishing this creative output. With numerous indexes for 506 alphabetically-listed hymns, their first lines, scriptural sources, and tunes; a "Finding List of New Zealand Hymn Writing" and composers in hymn books and other publications in New Zealand and overseas; also, appendices listing publications in which New Zealand hymn writers and hymns are discussed, and a brief history of the Hymnbook Trust, this companion to the Trust's publications is already an indispensable source of hitherto inaccessible information."Gary Clover, retired Methodist presbyter & historian, author of: Collision, Compromise and Conversion during the Wesleyan Hokianga Mission, 1827-1855.

The Folk
Who are "the folk" in folk music? This book traces the musical culture of these elusive figures in Britain and the US during a crucial period of industrialization from 1870 to 1930, and beyond to the contemporary alt-right. Drawing on a broad, interdisciplinary range of scholarship, The Folk examines the political dimensions of a recurrent longing for folk culture and how it was called upon for radical and reactionary ends at the apex of empire. It follows an insistent set of disputes surrounding the practice of collecting, ideas of racial belonging, nationality, the poetics of nostalgia, and the pre-history of European fascism. Deeply researched and beautifully written, Ross Cole provides us with a biography of a people who exist only as a symptom of the modern imagination, and the archaeology of a landscape directing flows of global populism to this day.
Menergy
For most of the US, disco died in 1979. Triggered by the infamous "Disco Demolition" night at Comiskey Park in Chicago on July 12, 1979, a backlash made the word "disco" an overnight punchline. Major labels dropped disco artists and producers, and those mainstream musicians who had jumped on the bandwagon just as quickly threw themselves off. Gay men, however, continued to dance, and in the gay enclave of the Castro District in San Francisco, enterprising gay DJs, record producers, and musicians started their own small dance music record labels to make up for the lack of new, danceable music. Almost immediately this music reached far beyond the Bay, with Megatone Records, Moby Dick Records, and other labels achieving worldwide success, creating the world's first gay-owned, gay-produced music for a dancing audience. This music reflected a new way of life, a world apart and a culture of sexual liberation for gay men especially. With Menergy, author Louis Niebur offers a project of reconstruction in order to restore these lost figures to their rightful place in the legacy of 20th-century popular music. Menergy is the product of years of research, with dozens of personal interviews, archival research drawing upon hundreds of contemporary journals, photographs, bar rags, diaries, nightclub ephemera, and, most importantly, the recordings of the San Francisco artists themselves. With its combination of popular music theory, cultural analysis, queer theory and gender studies, and traditional musical analysis, the book will appeal to readers in queer history, popular music history, and electronic dance music.

Born Again!
In this scintillating sequel to Sabotage! Black Sabbath in the Seventies, Martin Popoff blows up the kaleidoscopic narrative of the Sabs over the ensuing twenty years, dissecting each and every of the band's ten studio albums and two (and-a-half) live albums produced over that time period. So this is the book where we hear the gripes, snipes, swipes and thumbs-up likes from Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Tony Martin and finally once more Ozzy Osbourne, as they remark upon this institution coddled by the anchor of the band Tony Iommi, who valiantly held Black Sabbath together through many years of blood, sweat and Tyrs. Heaven and Hell, Mob Rules, Live Evil, Born Again, Seventh Star, The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, Tyr, Dehumanizer, Cross Purposes, Forbidden and finally, extensively broken down, Reunion... they're all here, song by song, the hirings and the firings highlighted and explained. Incorporating talk from over 60 interviews conductive with band members and other relevant parties over 25 years, make no mistake-this is the most in-depth examination of the band during this timeframe ever executed. So come one and all, re-love modern-era Black Sabbath all over again-you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much dastardly doom there is from Tony Iommi that you need to know and embrace once again.

In this work, preeminent researcher on the topic, John Potash, puts forward his own theories of the events leading up to and following the murder in this meticulously researched and exhaustive account of the story. Never before has there been such a detailed and shocking analysis of the untimely death of one of the greatest musicians of the modern era. The FBI War on Tupac Shakur contains a wealth of names, dates, and events detailing the use of unscrupulous tactics by the Federal Bureau of Investigation against a generation of leftist political leaders and musicians. Based on twelve years of research and including extensive footnotes, sources include over 100 interviews, FOIA-released CIA and FBI documents, court transcripts, and mainstream media outlets. Beginning with the birth of the Civil Rights Movement in America, Potash illustrates the ways in which the FBI and the United States government conspired to take down and dismantle the various burgeoning activist and revolutionary groups forming at the time. From Martin Luther King Jr. to Malcolm X to Fred Hampton, the methods used to thwart their progress can be seen repeated again and again in the 80s and 90s against later revolutionary groups, musicians, and, most notably, Tupac Shakur. Buckle in for this winding, shocking, and unbelievable tale as John Potash reveals the dark underbelly of our government and their treatment of some of our most beloved black icons.

Einstein on the Beach: Opera Beyond Drama
Philip Glass and Robert Wilson's most celebrated collaboration, the landmark opera Einstein on the Beach, had its premiere at the Avignon Festival in 1976. During its initial European tour, Metropolitan Opera premiere, and revivals in 1984 and 1992, Einstein provoked opposed reactions from both audiences and critics. Today, Einstein is well on the way itself to becoming a canonized avant-garde work, and it is widely acknowledged as a profoundly significant moment in the history of opera or musical theater. Einstein created waves that for many years crashed against the shores of traditional thinking concerning the nature and creative potential of audiovisual expression. Reaching beyond opera, its influence was felt in audiovisual culture in general: in contemporary avant-garde music, performance art, avant-garde cinema, popular film, popular music, advertising, dance, theater, and many other expressive, commercial, and cultural spheres. Inspired by the 2012-2015 series of performances that re-contextualized this unique work as part of the present-day nexus of theoretical, political, and social concerns, the editors and contributors of this book take these new performances as a pretext for far-reaching interdisciplinary reflection and dialogue. Essays range from those that focus on the human scale and agencies involved in productions to the mechanical and post-human character of the opera's expressive substance. A further valuable dimension is the inclusion of material taken from several recent interviews with creative collaborators Philip Glass, Robert Wilson, and Lucinda Childs, each of these sections comprising knee plays, or short intermezzo sections resembling those found in the opera Einstein on the Beach itself. The book additionally features a foreword written by the influential musicologist and cultural theorist Susan McClary and an interview with film and theater luminary Peter Greenaway, as well as a short chapter of reminiscences written by the singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega.

The Tempo Implications of Bach’s Notation
This research into the tempos of Bach's dance music answers the age-old question, "How fast should this piece be?" Because Bach's tempo often differs from current performance practice, this research transforms our understanding of his music. Bach's principal suites encompass over 200 movements and include nineteen suites for harpsichord, two for lute, three for violin, and six for cello. These iconic pieces are played at widely varying tempos today, leading to diverse musical effects. Because Bach must have had specific musical effects in mind, many of today's interpretations must be contrary to his intentions. In this book the author draws on his previously published research into Bach's proportional method for establishing tempo and applies that method to these dance movements. By examining contemporaneous descriptions of the dance and also its music, the author uncovers the following about the tempo implications of Bach's titles: - The titles "Allemande" and "Sarabande" indicate that the omission of thirty-second notes does not affect tempo.- The title "Courante" indicates that the inclusion of sixteenth notes does not affect tempo.- The title "Gigue" has the same effect as does the fast performance marking Presto. - All other dance titles have no tempo implications. After perusing this book, the musician will be able to determine Bach's intended tempo for any Bach dance movement. He needs only to identify the title, time signature, tactus speed, and shortest note value. By establishing Bach's intended tempos, the musician will also discover Bach's intended musical effects. This book is for classical musicians, musicologists, music students, dance historians, and anyone who appreciates Bach's music. Thoroughly researched and meticulously documented, it includes over 180 musical examples and dozens of figures and tables. It includes a bibliography, and it also includes an index of cited Bach works, sorted by BWV number. This research is presented so that an amateur musician will be able to follow the arguments.

Heavy Duty
Get a backstage pass and see Judas Priest like you've never seen them before in this electrifying memoir by the band's cofounder and former lead guitarist. Judas Priest formed in the industrial city of Birmingham, England, in 1969. With its distinctive twin-guitar sound, studs-and-leather image, and international sales of over 50 million records, Judas Priest became the archetypal heavy metal band in the 1980s. Iconic tracks like "Breaking the Law," "Living after Midnight," and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" helped the band achieve extraordinary success, but no one from the band has stepped out to tell their or the band's story until now. As the band approaches its golden anniversary, fans will at last be able to delve backstage into the decades of shocking, hilarious, and haunting stories that surround the heavy metal institution. In Heavy Duty, guitarist K.K. Downing discusses the complex personality conflicts, the business screw-ups, the acrimonious relationship with fellow heavy metal band Iron Maiden, as well as how Judas Priest found itself at the epicenter of a storm of parental outrage that targeted heavy metal in the '80s. He also describes his role in cementing the band's trademark black leather and studs image that would not only become synonymous with the entire genre, but would also give singer Rob Halford a viable outlet by which to express his sexuality. Lastly, he recounts the life-changing moment when he looked at his bandmates on stage during a 2009 concert and thought, "This is the last show." Whatever the topic, whoever's involved, K.K. doesn't hold back.
B矇la Bart籀k in Italy
Examines the reputation of the Hungarian musician B矇la Bart籀k (1881-1945) as an antifascist hero. This book examines the reputation of the Hungarian composer B矇la Bart籀k (1881-1945) as an antifascist hero and beacon of freedom. Following Bartok's reception in Italy from the early twentieth century, through Mussolini's fascist regime, and into the early Cold War, Palazzetti explores the connexions between music, politics and diplomacy. The wider context of this study also offers glimpses into broader themes such as fascist cultural policies, cultural resistance, and the ambivalent political usage of modernist music. The book argues that the 'Bart籀kian Wave' occurring in Italy after the Second World War was the result of the fusion of the Bart籀k myth as the 'musician of freedom' and the Cold War narrative of an Italian national regeneration. Italian-Hungarian diplomatic cooperation during the interwar period had supported Bartok's success in Italy. But, in spite of their political alliance, the cultural policies by Europe's leading fascist regimes started to diverge over the years: many composers proscribed in Nazi Germany were increasingly performed in fascist Italy. In the early 1940s, the now exiled composer came to represent one of the symbols of the anti-Nazi cultural resistance in Italy and was canonised as 'the musician of freedom'. Exile and death had transformed Bart籀k into a martyr, just as the Resistenza and the catastrophe of war had redeemed post-war Italy.

Sondheim in Our Time and His
Sondheim in Our Time and His offers a wide-ranging historical investigation of the landmark works and extraordinary career of Stephen Sondheim, a career which has spanned much of the history of American musical theater. Each author uncovers those aspects of biography, collaborative process, and contemporary context that impacted the creation and reception of Sondheim's musicals. In addition, several authors explore in detail how Sondheim's shows have been dramatically revised and adapted over time. Multiple chapters invite the reader to rethink Sondheim's works from a distinctly contemporary critical perspective and to consider how these musicals are being reenvisioned today. Through chapters focused on individual musicals, and others that explore a specific topic as manifested throughout his entire career, plus an afterword by Kristen Anderson-Lopez; by digging deep into the archives and focusing intently on his scores; from interviews with performers, directors, and bookwriters, and close study of live and recorded productions--volume editor W. Anthony Sheppard brings together Sondheim's past with the present, thriving existence of his musicals.
Instruments of Empire
WINNER OF THE BEST BOOK AWARD PUBLISHED IN 2021 BY THE FILIPINO STUDIES SECTION IN THE ASSOCIATION OF ASIAN AMERICAN STUDIES At the turn of the twentieth century, the United States extended its empire into the Philippines while subjugating Black Americans in the Jim Crow South. And yet, one of the most popular musical acts was a band of "little brown men," Filipino musicians led by an African American conductor playing European and American music. The Philippine Constabulary Band and Lt. Walter H. Loving entertained thousands in concert halls and world's fairs, held a place of honor in William Howard Taft's presidential parade, and garnered praise by bandmaster John Philip Sousa--all the while facing beliefs and policies that Filipinos and African Americans were "uncivilized." Author Mary Talusan draws on hundreds of newspaper accounts and exclusive interviews with band members and their descendants to compose the story from the band's own voices. She sounds out the meanings of Americans' responses to the band and identifies a desire to mitigate racial and cultural anxieties during an era of overseas expansion and increasing immigration of nonwhites, and the growing "threat" of ragtime with its roots in Black culture. The spectacle of the band, its performance and promotion, emphasized a racial stereotype of Filipinos as "natural musicians" and the beneficiaries of benevolent assimilation and colonial tutelage. Unable to fit Loving's leadership of the band into this narrative, newspapers dodged and erased his identity as a Black American officer. The untold story of the Philippine Constabulary Band offers a unique opportunity to examine the limits and porousness of America's racial ideologies, exploring musical pleasure at the intersection of Euro-American cultural hegemony, racialization, and US colonization of the Philippines.
Nineteenth-Century Opera and the Scientific Imagination
Scientific thinking has long been linked to music theory and instrument making, yet the profound and often surprising intersections between the sciences and opera during the long nineteenth century are here explored for the first time. These touch on a wide variety of topics, including vocal physiology, theories of listening and sensory communication, technologies of theatrical machinery and discourses of biological degeneration. Taken together, the chapters reveal an intertwined cultural history that extends from backstage hydraulics to drawing-room hypnotism, and from laryngoscopy to theatrical aeronautics. Situated at the intersection of opera studies and the history of science, the book therefore offers a novel and illuminating set of case studies, of a kind that will appeal to historians of both science and opera, and of European culture more generally from the French Revolution to the end of the Victorian period.
Three Loves for Three Oranges
In 1921, Sergei Prokofiev's Love for Three Oranges--one of the earliest, most famous examples of modernist opera--premiered in Chicago. Prokofiev's source was a 1913 theatrical divertissement by Vsevolod Meyerhold, who, in turn, took inspiration from Carlo Gozzi's 1761 commedia dell'arte-infused theatrical fairy tale. Only by examining these whimsical, provocative works together can we understand the full significance of their intertwined lineage. With contributions from 17 distinguished scholars in theater, art history, Italian, Slavic studies, and musicology, Three Loves for Three Oranges: Gozzi, Meyerhold, Prokofiev illuminates the historical development of Modernism in the arts, the ways in which commedia dell'arte's self-referential and improvisatory elements have inspired theater and music innovations, and how polemical playfulness informs creation. A resource for scholars and theater lovers alike, this collection of essays, paired with new translations of Love for Three Oranges, charts the transformations and transpositions that this fantastical tale underwent to provoke theatrical revolutions that still reverberate today.
No Sense at All
In November 1981, I teamed up with guitarist's John Clover & John Potter and bassist Steve Dyson and by April 1982, Huddersfield had a new band, The End. We prided ourselves on playing originally penned songs, but at some venues it was more about cover versions. So we accumulated a large amount in our locker from the 60s to the present day. Before the year was through, we had recorded at Cargo studios in Rochdale and Leader Sound in Greetland laying down 'Standing On The Platform', 'Time', 'She's A Winner' (all originals) and three covers. In Feb' 1983, we qualified for the Yorkshire Supergroup comp' in Wakefield, but by the end (no pun) of May I chose to leave. The story is fattened out with what we all got up to afterwards.

The Cambridge Haydn Encyclopedia
For well over two hundred years, Joseph Haydn has been by turns lionized and misrepresented - held up as celebrity, and disparaged as mere forerunner or point of comparison. And yet, unlike many other canonic composers, his music has remained a fixture in the repertoire from his day until ours. What do we need to know now in order to understand Haydn and his music? With over eighty entries focused on ideas and seven longer thematic essays to bring these together, this distinctive and richly illustrated encyclopedia offers a new perspective on Haydn and the many cultural contexts in which he worked and left his indelible mark during the Enlightenment and beyond. Contributions from sixty-seven scholars and performers in Europe, the Americas, and Oceania, capture the vitality of Haydn studies today - its variety of perspectives and methods - and ultimately inspire further exploration of one of western music's most innovative and influential composers.
Gabba Gabba Hey
Back in December 2020 two writers (Anthony Neil Smith and Matthew Gomez) were shooting the shit on Twitter when one of them suggested that what the world really needed was an anthology of short-stories based around The Ramones - what a dream it'd be if only they could persuade a publisher to take a risk and green-light the project. It literally took them a couple of tweets and one direct message to convince us that Fahrenheit Press was where this anthology was meant to live.We got literally hundreds of submissions and from them we've chosen 24 stories to make up what might just be the greatest rock-n-roll anthology ever assembled.Seriously, look at this track-listing...Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio by David NoonanIt's Not My Place by Philip CharterI Wanna Be Well by Christopher BondSomebody Put Something in My Drink by CW BlackwellI Wanna Live by Clark BoydPinhead by Kelly RobinsonSuzy Is A Headbanger by Derek FarrellCretin Hopp by Mike BurrRockaway Beach by Lex VranickThe KKK Took My Baby Away by Kevin David AndersonThe Crusher by Shaun Avery 7/11 by Amanda CrumI Wanna Be Your Boyfriend by Vinnie HansenS.L.U.G. by Thomas PluckDanny Says by Hannah O'DoomMy Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg) by Bret NelsonBaby I Love You by Tina JacksonChainsaw by Gregory NicollHere Today, Gone Tomorrow by James RyanMerry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) by Joshua L. For example the anthology kicks off with a first-hand account written by David Noonan (DT Graves - drummer & founder member of punk stalwarts The Cryptkeeper Five) where he recounts the night he backed up Joey Ramones on the drums - from there the anthology blasts off into a world of Ramones tales & stories that just keep building and building with an intensity that mirrors the songs themselves.Add to that an Introduction written by Fahrenheit founder and life long Ramones fanatic Chris McVeigh + a preface written by author & LA Punk Queen BRENDA PERLIN (LosAngelesPunkRocker on Instagram) and it's fair to say that this book really is something special and a must have for any Ramones fan.
Towards an Aesthetics of Cognitive-Parametric Music
New composition techniques are presented, based on parametric materials derived from the traditional materials abstracted from their dependence on parametric centralities and the use of cognitive models. Three works composed with these techniques are analyzed in this book.
