This book charts how, once the Nazis came into power, Mammen instead created 'degenerate' paintings and collages, translated prohibited French literature and sculpted in clay and plaster-all while hidden away in her tiny studio apartment in the heart of Berlin's fashionable west end. What was it like as a woman artist to produce modern art in Nazi Germany? Can artworks that were never exhibited in public still make valid claims to protest? Land meets Water
Approaching landfall from the sea gives an entirely different perspective and emotional response to that of looking out to sea from the land. Walking on the coast gives one the time to soak up the scenery, frame the vista in your mind and study rather than glimpse. Travelling by car provides the wherewithal to carry easels and art paraphernalia to further destinations not to mention more sustenance! As an artist I am lucky to have experienced all three modes of transport in my ramblings around the south-west coastline. Over a period of many years, I have sketched or painted subjects that have intrigued me, not only from an artistic point of view, but those which include historical interest. Also, I don't know why it is, but when you set up an easel and paint or sketch 'en plein air' other dynamics seem to happen: inquisitive people peer over your shoulder, some people talk to you, stories unfold, unexpected things happen, hence my jottings on each of the following pages accompanying the images. My south-west coastal journey starts in South Dorset at Poole Harbour where I moored my old Westerly Ketch sailing boat at Redclyffe, Wareham, on the River Frome. My artistic ramblings run from there around the entire coastline to Bristol, encompassing Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

This richly illustrated volume paints a complex portrait of Caillebotte, masculinity, and identity in late nineteenth-century France. More than any other French Impressionist, painter Gustave Caillebotte (1848-1894) observed and depicted the many men in his life, including his brothers and friends, employees, and the workers and bourgeois in his Parisian neighborhood. Male subjects feature prominently in some of his best-known works, such as The Floor Scrapers, Man at His Bath, Young Man at His Window, Boating Party, and Paris Street, Rainy Day. The originality of his paintings of men is fully explored for the first time in this catalogue, published to accompany a major international exhibition co-organized by the J. Paul Getty Museum, Mus矇e d'Orsay, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Alongside paintings, drawings, and photographs, as well as an appendix featuring maps and new biographical research that sheds light on Caillebotte's social network, this volume includes historically grounded thematic essays by curators and leading scholars. Toshiko Takaezu
An expansive look at the multifaceted American artist Toshiko Takaezu within the history of postwar artmaking Toshiko Takaezu (1922-2011) was an American artist whose multidisciplinary work in ceramics, painting, sculpture, weaving, and installation innovatively drew from the natural world, combining expressionist energies with influences from East Asia. The closed ceramic forms for which she is best known are effectively abstract paintings in the round. Her reputation as a ceramic artist, however, has obscured the breadth of her output in other mediums and her role within the larger art movements of the twentieth century. Deleuze and the Map-Image
The map, as it appears in Gilles Deleuze's writings, is a concept guiding the exploration of new territories, no matter how abstract. With the advent of new media and digital technologies, contemporary artists have imagined a panoply of new spaces that put Deleuze's concept to the test. Deleuze's concept of the map bridges the gap between the analog and the digital, information and representation, virtual and actual, canvas and screen and is therefore best suited for the contemporary artistic landscape. Deleuze and the Map-Image explores cartography from philosophical and aesthetic perspectives and argues that the concept of the map is a critical touchstone for contemporary multidisciplinary art. A brief history of how I evolved into a full time professional artist is in order. It might even encourage others that were in my situation to do the same. My father graduated from art school after high school, but instead of fine art, he took up metal crafting. From early elementary school until I graduated from high school, I worked in his shop. During that time, he always encouraged me with my artistic endeavors.While at the University of Florida there was no time for art and I graduated in 1964. I was commissioned in the USMC and reported for 3 years of active duty. My last year was a tour of duty in Chu Lai, Viet Nam. After discharge as a Captain, I acquired a MS degree at UF and then was accepted in the Auburn School of Veterinary Medicine.In 1972, I entered veterinary practice in Panama City, FL and still live in that area. After about 25 years of full time practice, I started part time in order to pursue my passion for watercolors. Prior to 1972, I worked in oils and acrylics, but then started taking watercolor classes in 1974. Around 2006, I began teaching classes locally and workshops regionally. In 2003, I started my travel journaling in watercolor/pen & ink and hope to continue that as long as possible.I completely retired from veterinary practice in 2018 after Hurricane Michael ravaged our area.Over the years, I became a signature/elected member of 18 major watercolor societies.

In 2006, he commemorated the centennial death anniversary of the artist by creating the first online catalogue of prints from the Press. In 2016, he curated an exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bengaluru (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) titled "Royal Lithography and Legacy". In 2019 he established the Ganesh Shivaswamy Foundation, which immediately thereafter partnered with Google Arts and Culture. To commemorate 125 years since the establishment of the Ravi Varma Press, his Foundation launched chromolithographs from his collection on the Google platform. This was inaugurated by Her Highness Shubhangini Raje, Rajamata Ji of Baroda in September 2019. The following year, his foundation commemorated 150 years of the artist's professional career through further exhibits on the Google Arts & Culture platform. He is also the Honorary Curator of the Raja Ravi Varma museum at the Sree Chitra Art Gallery, Thiruvananthapuram.
