Constable's Year
As exhilarating as a lungful of oxygen: that's how some of his contemporaries felt about John Constable's paintings. Others, though, were baffled by his uncompromisingly fresh and realistic treatment of the natural world. Author Susan Owens follows Constable's work and life through the seasons, tracing the rhythms and resonances of the artist's year to offer a vivid, unconventional perspective on this beloved figure.Whether in London in May, preparing pictures for exhibition and longing for the Suffolk spring, or painting boat--builders and waiting to be married in a particularly gloomy September, Constable's life and work were unusually shaped by the yearly cycles of weather and agriculture, as well as by the often competing demands of the art world. Raised in Suffolk, England, and trained to manage his father's land, his rural background had an enduring impact on his painting. John Walker
John Walker's prolific painting career spans over sixty years. His practice is inspired by a range of visual references, notably the work of Goya, Matisse, the abstract expressionists, and the art of Oceania, as well as by shapes and pattern motifs evoking history, time, and place; however, his work cannot readily be defined as abstract or figurative, and his guiding thought is to have a conversation with the art of the past that embraces feeling and touch. As Walker puts it, the artist should listen to the sound of the brush. His desire to "own" a subject is present in his engagement with the bay at Seal Point, Maine, where he has lived for many years: "It's about capturing something no one else has seen."Walker's works are in major museums and private collections internationally, and he has had solo exhibitions in the UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, and China. Despite winning the John Moores Painting Prize in 1976, and being nominated for 1985's Turner Prize, he has exercised a resistance to reputation-building, and visualizes his studio practice as a slow, evolving process. The Gospel According To Bombastus
What began as countless daily texts from Brutus to make Stevo laugh at work soon evolved into their final collaborative venture. The pair's original scheme, Stevo working at a fortune cookie factory swapping standard fortunes for Brutus' quotes, failed when he was fired for refusing to wear a hair net. They quickly moved on to plan B, a page-a-day calendar, and Stevo began illustrating Brutus' texts. That project was paused when Brutus passed in 2023, then restarted when Kevin Ausmus selected the strongest entries for a chapbook. The final product, The Gospel According To Bombastus, explores topics from biology to theology with wit, wisdom, and weirdness.

In 2026, the Mus矇e National Picasso-Paris will present an exhibition dedicated to Philip Guston, bringing together a group of figurative works made by the artist responding to to Philip Roth's book Our Gang. From October 14th 2025 to March 1st 2026, the Mus矇e National Picasso-Paris will present an exhibition dedicated to the American painter Philip Guston, bringing together a group of figurative works and drawings made by the artist responding to to Philip Roth's book Our Gang (1971). The exhibition will also show the satirical verve of Guston's painting as well as a form of political commitment rooted in his discovery of Picasso's Guernica, surrealism and Mexican muralism in the late 1930s. Supported by the Philip Guston Foundation and the artist's daughter Musa Meyer, who have entrusted the museum with the Nixon drawings series, as well as never-seen-before works, the exhibition will offer a precise look at Guston's work from the 1940s to the end of his life. In total, the book will feature around 150 works by Guston as well as the 73 drawings, along with Philip Roth's text.
My Lifetime of Color
Carol J. Szot started painting at age fourteen after years of watching her dad paint. She has had no professional schooling and is self-taught. Now, after more than forty-five years, she has developed a technique resulting from intense observation to fine detail. She paints strictly in oil paints on stretched canvas in a photorealistic style using lighting techniques and true color.In the early years, she used subjects from calendars or postcards. Now most of her paintings are of pictures she photographed herself.The inspiration for her work is the surroundings of everyday life. The majority of her work falls into four categories: homes and local historical buildings, still life, pet portraits, and scenic landscapes.She has been commissioned on several occasions to create beautiful gifts for special occasions. Some were of varied topics as places of business or a private floatplane. Many have been of beautiful homes and beloved family pets.Carol lives in Newton, New Hampshire, with her husband, Paul. She shares her work with her community, by hanging her work in public spaces like the library, police department, and town hall. She retired from painting in 2022 and now enjoys making quilts.

Clara Istlerov獺 a Life Among Letters
The first publication in English on the career of Czech graphic designer and typographer Clara Istlerov獺Clara Istlerov獺 (born 1944) was one of few female designers in the male-dominated field of Czech typography. Born into an artistic family, she studied under Frantisek Muzika at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Working entirely in analog processes, she created the design for one of the most influential books on Czech architecture, Sv獺cha, Rostislav: From Modernity to Functionalism (1985). Offering a vivid portrayal of an era where design was a tangible, labor-intensive endeavor carried out in close collaboration with typesetters and printers, A Life Among Letters unveils the artistic landscape of former Czechoslovakia through the lens of a trailblazing designer. It features an intimate interview with Istlerov獺 conducted by Anezka Minar穩kov獺, accompanied by work from Istlerov獺's personal archive and a description of her creative process in her own words.
Kaari Upson: Go Back the Way You Came (Notebook)
A facsimile of one of Kaari Upson's notebooks, offering a moving glimpse into the raw immediacy of her thinking and the layered intensity of her practicePublished with Kunsthalle Basel. When Kaari Upson (1970-2021) died of cancer at the age of 51, she left behind an extensive body of unfinished work and a breadth of materials related to her practice, including dozens of notebooks. This facsimile re-creates the one she used to sketch and reflect in the months leading up to her exhibition Go Back the Way You Came at Kunsthalle Basel in 2019--the last to show new work before her death. Alongside a faithful reproduction of each page, the notebook also includes a booklet in which Elena Filipovic illuminates the practice of "doubling" in Upson's work and explains why Upson's notebooks are crucial to understanding her practice: "Upson was a tenacious notetaker; her drawings and notebooks, in which little was held back, act as capacious ledgers that trace the motley cosmos of what she thought, made, or longed yet to make."
Mestre Didi: Spiritual Form

This richly illustrated volume explores the work of the Afro-Brazilian sculptor, writer and cultural advocate Mestre Didi (1917-2013), uniting more than 60 of his sculptures, offering a rare view of his far-reaching spiritual and artistic legacy, and contextualizing his aesthetic innovations within the prevailing discourses of Brazilian modern art. Over the course of his career, from the 1960s until the 2010s, Mestre Didi was a visionary emissary for Candombl矇, an Afro-diasporic religion that developed in Brazil as formerly enslaved Africans handed down their Yoruba spiritual practices. He was perhaps the first artist to reimagine Candombl矇 ritual objects as artworks in their own right. - Kasper De Vos' sculptures and installations, often comically referencing food culture and found objects, evoke a playful and colorful uncanny worldUNO was made in collaboration with PLUS-ONE Gallery on the occasion of Kapser De Vos' exhibition 'Pushing And Pulling The Center To The Mirror' at M HKA's Inbox. Kasper De Vos (簞1988) gained attention with installations and sculptural interventions that referred to consumerism and its associated food culture in a way that was both humorous and sculptural. Often, his sculptures combine found objects or materials with modelled elements. His sculptures and installations seem to stem from a kind of tactile and visual pleasure, a play of formal and substantive associations and a mild form of humour that takes the form of an open, playful, imaginative dance with materials, techniques, things and thoughts. His work evokes stories without being illustrative or pedantic. It is a kind of thinking with shapes, which in turn makes us think and dream. Surprising, inventive, generous, plastic, virtuosic, open and oneiric. In English and French.

- An insight into the Polish-born, Brussels-based contemporary artist Marcin Dudek, represented by Harlan-Levey Projects- Marcin Dudek continually searches the reminiscences of his childhood, translating key elements that defined his upbringing into compelling artworks that vary from sculptor, to mixed-media paintings and installation, all documented into this bold bookSlash & Burn presents some of Marcin Dudek's key creations, focusing on what he refers to as 'Memory Boxes' and touching on other elements of practice including collage, performance, sculpture and research. Marcin Dudek was just 12 years old and living in a concrete housing block outside Krakow, Poland, when the Berlin Wall finally toppled. Poland's free-fall into capitalism followed as the country reeled from severe shortages, skyrocketing inflation and suddenly-defunct industry. For many, food was scarce. Money, more than hard to come by. A frayed social fabric, lacking civic associations left children vulnerable to new allegiances. Before becoming a teenager, he followed his older brother into the arms of a wild group of football supporters who created havoc in and outside the local stadium. Over time, many from this group moved from the council estate into the prison block as petty crimes escalated into enterprising criminal endeavors. Thanks in part to his sister, Dudek found an alternative path, moving to Salzburg, Austria to attend University of Art Mozarteum. He found work in art galleries, learned German and later moved to London, earning an MFA at Central Saint Martin's. Art as methodology for living, coupled with the DIY survivalist strategies of his youth, became tools for transformation as well as dealing with childhood trauma. Shortly after settling in Brussels in 2012, he began to publicly question and explore his past in the seminal exhibition Too Close for Comfort. Marcin Dudek is represented by Haarlen Levy Projects in Brussels.
Austin Martin White
Austin Martin White, the first standalone volume of the artist's work, provides an in-depth investigation of White's sophisticated and idiosyncratic oeuvre. At the center of Austin Martin White's impressive body of work is the act of manipulating and reinterpreting history. Working with a variety of materials including rubber, acrylic, spray-paint, vinyl, 3m reflective fabric and screen mesh mediums, White creates paintings and works on paper that investigate representations of historical memory, drawing on archival research that addresses issues of identity, race, and postcolonialism. By pulling apart and reassembling received historical imagery, the artist destabilizes colonial and classist codes that run throughout Western art history. This first monograph on his paintings and works on paper shows the wide variety of subjects on which White brings this incisive method to bear; each chapter acquaints us with a different series in the artist's work through a brief introduction and a generous number of plates. The monograph includes an essay by Johanna Fateman which elucidates the progression of White's practice, bringing into focus his history-spanning references and their close relationship to the process and form of the paintings. Fateman's deep dive into the work of Austin Martin White is accompanied by over 60 full-color reproductions of both paintings and works on paper, as well as detail images, installation shots, and photographs of the artist in his studio. Designed by Waterhouse Cifuentes Design, the monograph provides a comprehensive account of the artist's work from 2018 to the present.
Seurat and the Sea
This catalogue charts the evolution of the radical and distinctive style of French artist Georges Seurat through the recurring motif of the sea. Seurat and the Sea is a scholarly and visually rich catalogue accompanying a landmark exhibition at The Courtauld, London, the first exhibition devoted to Seurat's seascapes. Georges Seurat (1859-1891), known for pioneering the Neo-Impressionist technique of using small dots of pure colour, developed a luminous and atmospheric style that evolved notably through his repeated engagement with maritime themes. The book brings together paintings, oil sketches and drawings produced during five summers spent on France's northern coast between 1885 and 1890, in coastal towns such as Honfleur, Port-en-Bessin, and Gravelines. These works, featuring seascapes, regattas and harbour scenes, contrast with Seurat's better-known Parisian imagery and reflect his desire to escape studio confines and depict the clarity of natural light. The catalogue highlights how these coastal works deepened Seurat's exploration of colour and form and played a vital role in expanding his influence. Featuring loans from global collections alongside The Courtauld's holdings, the exhibition reaffirms Seurat's lasting artistic significance despite his early death at age 31. The Art of Mary Linwood
The Art of Mary Linwoodis the first book on Leicester textile artist Mary Linwood (1755-1845) and catalogue of her work.When British textile artist and gallery owner Mary Linwood died in 1845 just shy of 90 years old, her estate was worth the equivalent of 瞿5,199,822 in today's currency. As someone who made, but did not sell, embroidered replicas of famous artworks after artists such as Gainsborough, Reynolds, Stubbs, and Morland, how did she accumulate so much money? A pioneering woman in the male-dominated art world of late Georgian Britain, Linwood established her own London gallery in 1798 that featured copies of well-known paintings by these popular artists. Featuring props and specially designed rooms for her replicas, she ensured that her visitors had an entertaining, educational, and kinetic tour, similar to what Madame Tussaud would do one generation later. The gallery's focus on picturesque painters provided her London visitors with an idyllic imaginary journey through the countryside. Its emphasis on quintessentially British artists provided a unifying focus for a country that had recently emerged from the threat of Napoleonic invasion.This book brings to the fore Linwood's gallery guides and previously unpublished letters to her contemporaries, such as Birmingham inventor Matthew Boulton and Queen Charlotte. It also includes the first and only catalogue of Linwood's extant and destroyed works. By examining Linwood's replicas and their accompanying objects through the lens of material culture, the book provides a much-needed contribution to the scholarship on women and cultural agency in the early 19th century.
