Levantine Architectural Heritage in Mersin
Mersin, one of the Eastern Mediterranean port cities, is located in the south of Turkey. This region was known as the Cilicia Region in ancient times. At the present time the Adana, one of the most developed cities of Southern Anatolia, is located in the east, Antalya, the most developed city of Turkey in terms of tourism, in the west, and Karaman, Konya and Niğde provinces in the north. It is still one of the most important port cities of Turkey, both in terms of its neighbouring cities and its location. The city, which lost its importance during the Middle Ages and it re-gained its value in the middle of the 19th century. During this period, the port of Tarsus lost its importance due the silting up of the Tarsus river and the Mersin port had started to grow. It is not possible to evaluate the development of Mersin and its transformation into a residential area independently from the port and port trade. The most distinctive feature of the Eastern Mediterranean Port cities is a multicultural society and the presence of European merchants called "Levantine". The word, which means "born" and "East", is used to describe the Eastern Mediterranean Countries. In general terms, Levantine refers to those who came from a European family and settled in an Eastern Mediterranean country. Within the scope of this study, the current status of Levantine architectural heritage in Mersin city center and the preservation problems of them investigated. The arrival of the Levantines in Mersin and their activities in the city were examined historically. As a result, the relations they established with the city were examined through the buildings.

Ferrari Research Center
The Ferrari Industrial Complex, an extraordinary campus devoted to designing and testing Ferrari cars, has been testing some major design changes of its own. World-renowned Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas's new research center, built between the wind tunnel and the mechanics' building, will now host the offices of Ferrari Technical Management. Its rectangular bamboo forest and ground-level reflecting pool are meant to offer a micro-climate for "the realization of a dream." The floor plans, construction photos and renderings collected here suggest that Fuksas has succeeded, as does a shot of a crowd of Ferrari-ans in dark suits filing up one of the building's apparently unsupported staircases in a line, while one of their number bolts joyfully, blurrily, past them to the top. This book, with its yellow endpapers and metallic-red-edged pages, succeeds both in capturing Fuksas's work and tapping into readers' intense interest in one of the world's most recognizable luxury brands.

Most books about architecture and urban environments give the impression that the world is a flat place inhabited by very rich countries and very poor countries. More complex physical and geographical realities exits, however, as well as places with middling economies. In this book, architect Eduard Bru discusses some of these places, many of which are found in southern Europe, and through them he reflects on the present and the immediate future of the built environment, using parameters different from those of the dominant Dutch/North American majority. He defends, for poorer countries, a construction of space by means of non-ephemeral, highly neutral, even atemporal objects whose meanings change with time.
