Carpenter was bestowed with many honours for his contributions to music, including being made a Knight of the French Legion of Honor in 1921, receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in 1933, and being awarded the Gold Medal of the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1947.
