Vocal Improvisation
Vocal Improvisation is designed for individual jazz singers, classroom students, and teachers of vocal jazz. The exercises are appropriate for all levels of experience and can also be useful to instrumentalists for developing jazz articulation and learning to better connect what they hear to what they play. The chapters on jazz theory and keyboard, as well as the glossary and selected solos for transcribing section make this publication an excellent resource of information for any jazz musician. In the interviews section you will find questions and answers about jazz and improvisation from some of today's leading professional jazz singers, including DeeDee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Jon Hendricks, Sheila Jordan, Kevin Mahogany, Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, and more. The accompanying CD contains vocal examples with rhythm section background featuring Darmon Meader, Don Shelton, and the author. The stereo separation allows you to sing along with them, or turn them off to practice with Michele Weir, piano; John Clayton, bass; and Joe LaBarbera, drums. This is a well written, highly informative and to the point publication.

The Book of Song Dances
Beautiful and attractive books from the most prominent collector and advocator of the rich heritage and diversity of folk songs Dances accompanied by singing have been enjoyed by people of all ages for hundreds of years. These dances have served an important social function as people share the joy of synchronizing with others through their body, spirit, and voice. John M. Feierabend has collected song dances that have their roots in American heritage, as well as a few from other countries. Each dance is organized by type (single circle, double circle, square dances, etc.) and includes complete dancing directions. This beautifully illustrated collection is for anyone looking to reclaim this great folk dance tradition, use great songs to teach musical concepts--or simply have a great time.
The Book of Playground Songs and Rhymes
Beautiful and attractive books from the most prominent collector and advocator of the rich heritage and diversity of folk songs For generations, neighborhood kids would gather to skip rope, bounce balls, play hand-clapping games, or choose one another to be the first "it" in a game with a counting-out rhyme. The songs and rhymes in this book were made by playing these games and are a great foundation for music learning. By sharing these songs and rhymes with students during music class, today's students will discover the joy of music and, hopefully, share the songs, rhymes, and games in this collection with their friends and family. The songs are organized into five distinct categories: Hand Clapping, Jump Rope, Ball Bouncing, Counting Out, and Passing and Stick Games.

Fantasia on Polish Airs Op. 13, Piano/Orch Score, Wn a XV C
(PWM). This Fantasia for piano and orchestra calls up Polish nationalism in a slightly sentimental way. Even the folky Dumka has been transformed into a romantic nocturne. The orchestra provides a dreamy accompaniment. The two piano reduction is published in 00132232. The National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin Published by PWM Exclusively Distributed by Hal Leonard Corporation Co-Editors Jan Ekier and Pawel Kaminski The objective of the National Edition is to present Chopin's complete output in its authentic form, based on the entire body of available sources. Sources were analyzed with up-to-date scientific and musicological methodology. The National Edition was based on sources originated from the composer, mainly autographs, copies of autographs and first editions with the composer's corrections, and pupils' copies with Chopin's annotations. In cases when original sources were lacking, the closest possible materials were used. Collecting the source materials was a laborious task which took years of effort. The characteristics of sources, the links and discrepancies between them as well as the reasons for particular editorial decisions are discussed in the Source Commentary in each volume. The Performance Commentary appended to each volume includes: the realization of ornaments, comments on pedal markings (the original markings sometimes are inadequate, due to the difference in sound between pianos used in Chopin`s times and modern pianos), suggestions as to the "harmonic legato" (a performance technique often used by Chopin and now forgotten). Scales to Scalpels
In Scales to Scalpels, Dr. Wong and Robert Viagas chronicle how the musical acumen of these physicians affects the way they administer healing and, in turn, how their work affects their music. What cognitive and emotional shifts occur when a surgeon transitions from the chaos of the ER to the discipline of the orchestra rehearsal studio? What's it like to make a house call to a poor neighborhood in the morning and then play trumpet in a jazz group that night? Does music heal the doctors the way the doctors heal their patients? How does practicing the art of music transform the art of practicing medicine?
