The Effect of Polyvinyl Chloride Modified Bitumenin Hot Mix Asphalt

Waste Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), a non-degradable material used for engineering works with other relevance importance in developmental effect rather than its negative environmental impact. The addition of synthetic polymer to enhance properties of bitumen over a wide-range of temperatures hip road paving application been considered long time ago and consequently becoming real alternative for pavement extended life. This work is focused on the effect of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) modified bitumen in hot mix asphalt (HMA). Marshal method of mix design was used in the production of hot mix asphalt. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry (EDS) used for microstructural investigation and elemental study. The percent PVC content incorporated in the HMA were 2, 4, 6, 8, 10% PVC content, the OBC obtained 10%, at 10.75kN for the Modified and 4% at 9.8kN for Control. The modified materials with its properties shows, penetration recorded at 65mm, which conformed with, 60/70 grade bitumen, softening point recorded at 53oC.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the bilateral cooperation between the Wadden Sea National Park, WattenmeerNational Park, and The Gambia Department of Parks and Wildlife Management, in the conservation of migratory coastal waterbirds from 2016 to April 4, 2023, and determine the most dominant threats on the habitats of bird migrants in these two regions of the Flyway. Based on quantitative analysis and Literature review, the findings suggest that there was a positive collaboration between the management of the Wadden Sea National Park and the Department of Parks and Wildlife Management of The Gambia, in the last seven years.

The inclusion of BIM in the Civil Engineering course

This work deals with an investigation into the current conditions of the university education of Civil Engineering students with regard to training in the use of the BIM (Building Information Modeling) platform on the national scene. Through bibliographical research and evaluation of questionnaires answered by professors from Brazilian universities, the main objective of this research was to identify pedagogical strategies for approaching the BIM platform in undergraduate Civil Engineering teaching, taking into account CES/CNE Resolution 11 (MEC, 2002). The results indicate that the strategy is to include BIM in the three core areas of the course curriculum, with each approach being compatible with the student's level of education and training needs. Finally, this work, together with the others analyzed in the literature review, supports the teaching of BIM as an essential subject for training professionals in Civil Engineering.

The urbanization process has changed the land use pattern and urban structure. Urban development adds impervious surfaces, increases runoff, decreases infiltration, groundwater recharge and has negative effects on the local water quality and quantity balance. A large portion of former forest and agricultural areas have been cleared and replaced by concrete buildings, roads and drainage systems which are impermeable. The rivers flowing along the urban area are choked up with sediment from mining, housing and other development areas. The problem of silting in rivers and drains together with high rainfall intensity causes flash floods. The phenomenon of these flash floods has become more common as the surface runoff from developed urban and industrial areas has fully increased the peak discharges entering the rivers with a shortened time of detention to peak flow. This book is intended to give the understanding of the fundamental and design criteria of constructed wetland based on various guidelines from local and oversea. The performance of constructed wetland for tropical climate based on Malaysia condition has been discussed as well in this book.

Evaluation of the adhesion of steel bars to air-entrained concrete

The aim of this work is to study the extent to which the addition of an air-entraining agent to concrete can influence adhesion to steel, so that this relationship can be established as one of the parameters when defining or sizing the reinforced concrete to be used. The adherence between steel and concrete is fundamental to the existence of reinforced concrete structures, since the two materials act together to absorb the stresses. The phenomenon of adhesion is considered complex in terms of the various factors that influence it. It is important to define the force required to release/break the steel bar from the reinforced concrete block. To this end, a concrete mix was cast in reinforced specimens without and with an air admixture and these were subjected to tensile and compressive tests. It is expected that in the tensile test, a greater amount of force was required to pull the steel bar out of the specimen without the air-entraining agent. And the tensile force required by the machine with the air-incorporated specimen was much lower than the conventional one, concluding that there is an interference in the adherence of the material.

Use of WTP sludge in clay for ceramic brick production

Water treatment plants transform raw water into drinking water for human consumption. During this purification process, a solid waste product called sludge is generated. It is self-degrading and can have a negative impact if released into the environment in its natural state. This book describes the potential use of WTP sludge by incorporating it into clay for making ceramic bricks. Laboratory tests were carried out with proportions of 0%, 12%, 15% and 20% of waste incorporated into the clay mix, the results of which could influence the physical and mechanical properties of the ceramic material. The specimens underwent physical and mechanical tests to assess the quality of the final product by analysing the properties of linear shrinkage, water absorption, apparent porosity, apparent specific mass and flexural tensile strength. By comparing the results with the parameters established in NBR 15270-1, 2 and 3/2005, it was proved that WTP sludge can be incorporated up to 20% into clay for brick manufacture. This is an alternative environmentally correct way of disposing of this waste: WTP sludge.

Eliminations of Fluorides from Synthetic Water by the Various Methods

Water is an essential natural resource for sustaining life. Water is certainly not free everywhere. Fluorides in drinking water may be beneficial or detrimental depending on their concentration and total amount ingested. Fluoride is beneficial especially to young children for calcification of dental enamel below eight years of age when present within permissible limits of 1.0-1.5 mg/L. An excess of fluoride in drinking water causes dental fluorosis and/or skeletal fluorosis. Indian standards for drinking water recommend an acceptable fluoride concentration of 1.0 mg/L and an allowable fluoride concentration of 1.5mg/L in potable waters. In order to remove the Fluoride concentration from the contaminated sample the iron oxide, hydroxide nano particles and fluoride contaminated water samples were prepared in the laboratory. During weathering and circulation of water in rocks and soils, fluoride can be leached out and dissolve in groundwater and thermal gases. The fluoride content of groundwater varies greatly depending on the geological settings and type of rocks. The most common fluorine-bearing minerals are fluorite, apatite and micas.
