Antibiotic resistance in childhood urinary tract infections
Introduction: The aim of our study was to investigate the usefulness of logistic regression in determining risk factors associated with antibiotic resistance in pediatric urinary tract infections (UTIs).Methods: This was a cross-sectional etiological study on a series of children admitted for UTIs between January and September 2020.Statistical analysis was bi then multivariate using binary logistic regression.Results: A total of 100 episodes of bacteriologically documented UTI were included; in univariate analysis, antibiotic prescription in the preceding 3 months was associated with antibiotic resistance; in the final model of the multivariate analysis, only prior antibiotic therapy in the preceding 3 months was retained as an independent factor in the occurrence of UTI with an extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing strain.Conclusion: Our results underline the need for a therapeutic strategy adapted to our bacterial ecology, and for targeted action to remedy the factors contributing to antibiotic resistance.

Paraquat Effects on Carrion Insects. A Forensics Entomotoxicological Assessment Using Euthanized Pigs
Scientific Study from the year 2020 in the subject Biology - Micro- and Molecular Biology, grade: A, University of Ibadan, course: Biology, language: English, abstract: A study was carried out on the forensic entomological evaluation of carrion insects of pigs poisoned with paraquat between July and September 2018, on the main campus of the University of Ibadan. Paraquat is a commonly used suicide agent because it is easily available and very cheap. Pigs for the study were obtained from Akinyele meat market in Ibadan, Oyo state. The pigs were then weighed and euthanized with 60ml and 80ml of paraquat while the third pig without poison served as the control. Adult carrion insects were collected from the carrions using a sweep net and they are then immobilized using by spraying them with insecticide. The larva were collected into a bowl by using a spoon. The larvae were then immobilized with hot water and are later placed in appropriate sample bottles. Pupae were collected using a forces.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease of unknown cause, which presents with weakness in the limbs or difficulties in speaking or swallowing, which may be associated with a high nutritional risk. Currently there is no cure, so it is approached in a multidisciplinary manner with both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, including nutritional interventions. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the relationship between diet composition and the risk of developing ALS and the evolution of ALS once established. Nutrients and foods that favored the development of ALS (red meat), decreased the risk (antioxidants) and had no effect (mercury), foods and nutrients that favored the progression of the disease (intake deficit) and reduced it (antioxidants) were observed. In conclusion, diet composition and intake of certain micronutrients and foods seem to influence the initial development and progression of ALS.

Nursing students and healthcare-associated infections
The level of knowledge about nosocomial infections is an essential component in the enhancement of measures to combat nosocomial infections and in the development of effective preventive and curative strategies. The aim of this study is to describe the knowledge, attitudes and practices of students in the Nursing Care stream with regard to healthcare-associated infections. It is a cross-sectional study, using a self-administered questionnaire, which took place between February and June 2019. One hundred and fifty-nine students (n=159) were surveyed. The mean score for general knowledge was 3.42 簣 1.50. The mean score for knowledge of attitudes and practices was 11.50 簣 3.42. The average total score was 14.92 簣 5.007. The total score was better for students who had received training in nosocomial infections (P˂0 .05). The Multi-skilled Nurse option recorded the best knowledge scores compared with the other options in the pathway. The definition of nosocomial infection and the mode of transmission by hand were ignored by more than half of the students.

Role strain, work-family conflict, and professional socialization are the leading cause of stress and burnout among athletic training students. Task incongruence, role conflict, ambiguity, overload, and incompetency were the identified aspects of strain in ATs. The ambiguity in the athletic training profession is connected to insufficient specificity, while role conflict occurs in a situation where an individual is assigned to multiple roles at the same time. In essence, an individual's values and beliefs may not be compatible with professional job demands, causing role incongruence (the situation where description does not align with an individual's personality). Nineteen articles deeply examine the effect of role strain in athletic training students' profession. Work-family conflict is the disturbance emanating from the profession's family responsibilities, impacting their professional accomplishment. Fourteen researchers examined this problem extensively in the reviewed research articles, and it was determined to be a potential cause of burnout among athletic training students. High travel demands and long working hours are the two causes of work-family conflicts identified in the study. Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) represent a major problem for patient safety. Their prevention is fundamentally based on standard hospital hygiene precautions. Training in these precautions is the cornerstone of all HCAI prevention and control programs. Medical simulation is a teaching method used for training, training evaluation and risk management. It facilitates the anchoring of knowledge and the acquisition of individual and collective safety reflexes. Simulation in the form of a "room of errors" (ROE) aims to provide warning signals by showing the pitfalls to be avoided, in order to reduce undesirable events and promote vigilance in the face of errors. By adopting a risk management approach, CDE enables learners to better learn and memorize simulated events. This could improve the training of health science students in the prevention of healthcare-associated infectious risks.

How Stimulus-responsive Extracellular Vesicle Release is Regulated and Associated to Lewy body disease
Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2021 in the subject Biology - Neurobiology, grade: N/A, Technical University of Munich (German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE)), language: English, abstract: Lewy body (LB) disorders, such as dementia with LBs and Parkinson's disease with dementia (PDD) are characterized by their pathological hallmark, i.e., the gradual appearance of LBs. Therefore, a deep understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanism, favoring the formation of LBs is required.These proteinaceous inclusions are found in different cell types of the nervous system. The key constituent protein-component of such inclusions is the protein alpha-synuclein (α-Syn). α-Syn along with other bio-active material gets secreted as content of extracellular vesicles (EVs). These vesicles not only excrete bioactive material but are also able to transport it to distant sites, and therefore have implications for disease pathology seeding and spreading.Using patch-clamp electrophysiology techniques along with simultaneous real-time molecular imaging, we determined the kinetics of EV-release in hippocampal neurons. We designed a pH-sensitive molecular tag, targeted specifically to membranes of EVs and applied this method to study stimulus-responsive MVB-PM fusion, in order to determine the kinetics, specific stimuli and regulators of such events. In addition, we analyzed the EV-content by performing mass spectrometry (MS) analysis and identifyed LBP-related molecular interactions.
