Infection and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
With the advent of new therapeutics and the better knowledge of the pathophysiology of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), we are witnessing a change in the causes of death: if in the past, patients died more following a relapse of their disease, nowadays other causes such as infection and atherosclerosis are added to and sometimes replace the lupus relapse in terms of mortality. Today, infection is one of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in SLE. In this work, we propose to determine the frequency, the particularities and the predictive elements of the occurrence of infectious complications in SLE. For this purpose, we conducted a retrospective study including 70 lupus patients hospitalized in our department between January 2000 and January 2013. The group of patients with a definite infection was compared with the group without infection. We collected 52 women and 18 men with a mean age at 29 years. Forty-nine patients (70%) had presented 96 infections. Bacterial infections were the most frequently observed.
Diagnosis
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most frequent and the most aggressive primary malignant tumor of the central nervous system. Despite of the progress that has been made in therapy of many solid tumors the gold standard of glioblastoma multiforme multimodal treatment has not changed for many years. The results from clinical trials have been remained disappointing. Therefore, treatment of this tumor has been challenge for neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists and radiation oncologists. In this paper risk factors, prognostic/predictive factors, new directions of the innovative therapeutic options in glioblastoma multiforme were discussed. Additionally, complementary strategies and treatment of elderly patients were analyzed.

Arteriovenous fistulas
Native AVF is considered the best vascular approach. Surgical arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) were first described over 50 years ago and have revolutionized the outlook for millions of dialysis-dependent patients. Despite numerous developments, outcomes are suboptimal, with high rates of primary failure and re-intervention to maintain patency. Surgical AVFs are known to fail in part because of intimal hyperplasia leading to stenosis, and manipulation of the vessel during creation of the anastomosis may contribute. Recently, new minimally invasive techniques for endovascular AVF fabrication have emerged: the Ellipsys(R) System and the WavelinQ(TM) System. These new technologies allow the creation of AVFs for HD endovascularly with minimal trauma to the vessel. In this literature review, we present the place of endovascular AVFs in the management of hemodialysis patients, patient selection criteria, trial results, technical aspects, reinterventions, and future prospects.
