What in the world is Alzheimer’s?
On November 3, 1906, German physician Dr Alois Alzheimer presented "A peculiar disease process of the cerebral cortex" to the 37th Meeting of South-West German Psychiatrists in Tubingen, which would later become known as the Alzheimer's disease, one of the most important diseases in the twentieth century ("The discovery of Alzheimer's disease", 2003). In this presentation, he described the case of a 51-year-old woman, Auguste Deter, who developed progressive dementia, and had begun to develop psychiatric symptoms in memory loss, accompanied by hallucinations and delusions (Ballenger, 2006).

Sick City
Sick City is a call to action prompted by the crisis that crippled our cities, the pandemic. But the pandemic has brought the issues of race, inequality and unaffordability to the forefront as well, illustrating how all of these ills can be traced to unequal access to urban land. Patrick Condon walks the reader through that history, proving that most of these problems are rooted in the inflation of urban land value - land that is no longer priced for its value for housing but as an asset class in a global market hungry for assets of all kinds. The American wage earner who is most affected by COVID is also the worst hit by the surging price of urban land which has made the essential commodity of housing increasingly inaccessible. Not only does Condon dive deep into myriad and credible references to prove these points, but he also wraps up the conversation with some eminently practical and widely precedented policy actions that municipalities can enact - policy tools to establish housing justice at the same time slow the flow of land value increases into the pockets of land speculators.

Experts Catastrophe
This book is not for those who just want to be told what to believe. Rather, it is designed to demonstrate to the reader what is the genuine expertise and what is not. And to empower them to discern for themself what is true expertise rather than false. With 36 graphs and hundreds of scientific references, this information-crammed book seeks to guide the reader to answers to crucial questions such as the following. How can you distinguish real expertise from false? How can you tell who are the real medical experts? How do people become experts anyway? How do some get recognised as experts, and others not? Does that expertise-recognition process actually make sense? Or could it actually be severely flawed? Why are many senior science people so critical of medical research? Is "peer review" a useful indicator of competence? Is it safest to just follow what the most senior professors say? Why were no safety studies published of the non-gamma-2 amalgams now contained in millions of people's teeth? This unique book (written before the Covid pandemic) shows for the first time: - How millions of people in the US, UK, and elsewhere have had health and lives devastated by pseudo-evidence-based healthcare promoted by officially-designated experts (causing mainly non-autistic disabilities). The system of evidence-defying untruths issuing from official experts to deceive victims and cover up this catastrophe. How the science bureaucracy's system of "peer-reviewed" journals suppresses scientific truth and talent rather than advances it. How the fact of this medical catastrophe of pseudo-expertise has itself been kept censored by the cheap false excuses of the anonymous unaccountable so-called peer-review system. Why brain-changing air pollution has caused moral and cultural-social transformations, including the revolution of some longstanding attitudes. Practical ways you can distinguish life-saving genuine expertise from death-threatening official charlatanism. The institutional changes needed to end the failures both of health systems and of systems of scientific publication and promotion. Robin P Clarke is uniquely-qualified to write on these matters, having authored a number of notable medical scientific papers including the definitive unfaulted theory of autism, with numerous confirmed predictions, and yet unusually having no conflicts of interests (commercial, institutional, career). And with far too much direct personal experience of how the medical "expertise" system actually works in grim practice.

Alzheimer’s & Theology
The fact that Americans are living longer, healthier lives coupled with his own aging motivated the author to write this book. As Baby Boomers age, more than one in five Americans will be over 65 years old. This increase in the average age of Americans will have a widespread impact on every aspect of society, and is already beginning to be felt. This impact has inspired Dr. Liu to write this book in an effort to relieve the sufferings of those who have been diagnosed with this dreaded brain disease and their caregivers who suffer along with them. The author affirms that it is God's love through Christ which encourages him to provide reason of hope in God's remembrance: hope that is from an informed theological perspective, a sense of purpose in the face of this disease. Because of the author's godly motive and desire to offer help for sufferers, the author provides comfort through assurances that the sufferer's conditions are not leading to the end of their lives.

Uncovering Fibromyalgia ( black and white edition)
What is fibromyalgia syndrome? How does it differ from chronic fatigue syndrome? When was it first recognised and why is it a syndrome? Do all people experience the same symptoms. What conditions are associated with FMS and how can a combination of substances produced by the immune system work together to produce such a diversity of symptoms? The author explores the science behind FMS and shows how the symptoms can be perpetuated resulting in a condition which impacts greatly on the sufferer's life. Just as importantly, the author explains why painkillers, in themselves will not work on the underlying cause of this syndrome. Finally, she explains why CFS and FMS are not all in the mind but very real conditions which need to be taken more seriously.A new chapter on CMA which is ubiquitous in food, medicines and pharmaceuticals has recently been added since research shows this has been associated with FMS.
Cancer
Cancer is one of the oldest diseases seen in human specimens, quite possibly the oldest, the quest for its cure having begun some 4,000 years ago. However, it was fleetingly rare, hidden by other illnesses such as cholera, dropsy, leprosy, plague, pneumonia, smallpox, and tuberculosis. As these diseases were vanquished, and as the human lifespan lengthens, cancer has emerged. Many diseases are lumped together under the denomination "cancer," because they share a fundamental biological feature, namely abnormal cell growth. However, cancer is not a single disease. It is a multiplicity of diseases caused by the uncontrolled growth of a single cell unleashed by mutations. Cancer cells can grow faster, flourish more profusely, adapt better, recover more rapidly, and repair faster than normal cells. They are in effect more perfect versions of normal cells, and can even become immortal! We naively thought that cancer could be defeated by either preventing mutations from occurring in normal cells or else finding the means to eliminate the mutated cells without compromising normal growth. Unfortunately, this view did not take into account the pernicious genetic intertwining of normal and cancerous growths. Woven into our genome, the mutated genes are but distorted versions of the normal ones; they are braided together, and unbraiding them continues to be the most formidable undertaking. Fortunately, the vast majority of cancer cases are due to environmental risk factors, many of which being controllable lifestyle choices, and thus preventable. In developing cancer, individuals differ in both their inherited tendency and exposure to the environment. This book presents the nine major recent developments in cancer treatment, which provide great hope for the future. These include innate immunotherapy with neutrophil-mediated drug delivery for the suppression of postoperative malignant glioma recurrence; synthetic immunotherapy using either chimeric antigen receptor T-cells or programmed-death inhibitors; DNA origami/Trojan technique to foil drug resistance in solid tumors; enzyme mnk-2 conversion to overcome drug resistance in breast, lung and colon cancers; antiangiogenesis to cut off the blood vessels alimenting the cancer cells; self-eradication of cancer during meiosis; combating inflammation to limit tumor invasion, progression, and metastasis; electropermeabilizing the cancer cell membrane to deliver drugs to the cell's interior; and employing nanochemotherapy to deliver nanoparticles encapsulating cytotoxic drugs to tumors.

The Alchemy of Herbs - A Beginner’s Guide
Select herbs can grow extraordinary well indoors or outdoors, in containers or the ground, it all boils down to what you want to do. If the space receives less than five hours of sunlight in a day, you might be better off going indoors for easier accessibility especially for watering and cooking. Besides, this helps prevent weeds, pests or fluctuating temperatures. Seeds are quite cheap, but take longer and require more resources to grow. While on the other hand, seedlings are faster to grow, but only available in spring and summer.Several gardening tools are essential, may be a spade, gloves, pots, containers, virtually anything you need for the job. And remember, some fertilized soil is important too, this can be naturally generated, or a general-purpose compost solution from a gardening store. Living With Cancer
I'm living with cancer. It's not always a death sentence!"I first noticed the dimple on my breast in June, three months later, I was told, "there is nothing to worry about.' I began to experience discomfort under my breast in September. By March of the following year, I could no longer wear a bra because of the pain. I had a mammogram in May and the results also concluded that nothing was wrong. By August, the pain became so intense, I had to revisit the radiologist. She did an ultrasound and discovered they had misread the mammogram. Not only did it show I had tumors in my breast, but they were CANCEROUS. Two years of misdiagnoses! My life is now in a tailspin. Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing!"Living With Cancer: My Healing Journal is not only intended for cancer patients or survivors. It applies to anyone suffering from any debilitating disease, including diabetes, strokes, heart conditions, severe depression, and any other life-threatening conditions.Follow Caroline as she recorded daily, weekly, and monthly events and experiences of her traumatic journey. It is a true account of Mike Turnbull's battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The story is told primarily through the eyes of Mike's wife Karen, and details how her and the Turnbull's two sons fight to keep joy in their lives. From Mike's career as a professional musician to being wheelchair bound after cancer spread to his brain stem, to becoming a five-time triathlete, this story is raw, unfiltered and, although at times unbelievable, all true. It is above all else a story about how faith, family, friends and the power of prayer continue to strengthen this family.

This book brings the reader through Ed and Claire's journey to the edge of life, beyond Parkinson's disease.- Claude Pepin, Spring, 2021
Zen and the Art of Illness
Zen and the Art of Illness is a collection of gentle and insightful reflections on single days, sometimes single moments, in a year-long journey that began following her husband's cancer diagnosis. In it, Ronna invites us to "transverse the landscape of life-threatening illness, neither in fear nor in hope, and yet not without hope." Ronna combines the personal and intimate voice of the spouse moving through the days of diagnosis, treatment and recovery, with snapshots, both visual and textual, of moments of stillness or transition. Zen and the Art of Illness offers remarkable insights into times when "life and death were a possibility," when memory making, as a conscious practice, helped provide a life-line into the future. Rarely do we get the opportunity to view philosophy made real through practice, but those familiar with Ronna's teaching on hope will see her match the talk of hope with the walk in hope, and find inspiration in her micro-stories of hope, love, and surrender to the moment.Dr. Jaklin Eliott, Associate Professor, Counselling and Psychotherapy, School of Public Health, University of Adelaide

A Walk with God
CANCER - The mere mention of this word invokes fear or dread. Most would not include the words adventure, joy, peace, or gratitude to describe their emotional reaction. This book is about a journey "through" cancer and the experiences encountered. There are: times of confusion and times of claritytimes of pain and times of comfort feelings of helplessness and those of being blessed The author says, "All through the journey, I have been guided by God's whispers keeping me grounded in the knowledge that He desires full and complete recovery in my life and yours." This is a journey of joy and frustration which will hopefully bring you peace, increase your faith, and give you a different perspective and attitude as you get this glimpse into how cancer effects a person's life. The author has been blessed with a positive attitude along with an unconventional sense of humor. These two things, along with his unshakable faith, enabled him to traverse the pitfalls that come so that healing could be possible. Join him on this journey. He says to you as God said to him in the beginning, "Let's go for a walk together."Endorsements: Dave's honest, practical and inspiring journey proves there is an optimism that is more than merely human. I am tempted to re-title it, FULLER FAITH (pun intended). It brought back warm memories of when he and Marilyn lovingly sat alongside me in a waiting room while my wife was in extensive surgery for a metastasized cancer. Their compassion for people is genuine and enduring. Romans 15:13 says, "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Dave's life and words are an uplifting answer to that ancient prayer.Mike Weber, friend and pastor Dave's unique and vivid retelling from cancer diagnosis to "survivor" is both warm and inspiring! A gifted story teller, Dave walks the reader through the undulating emotional journey he faced-and we face-as cancer patients. Through it all Dave's story is a reminder that anything is possible-even in the most difficult of times and through the most difficult of circumstances-with faith and courage. Preventing Cancer
Welcome to a journey of exploration into the science of energy, health, nutrition, molecular, and body cell physiology. You will understand how food and nutrition produce the fuel that runs the human body and recognize the foods that keep a person healthy and free from disease. My book contains information vitally needed to prevent cancer. It explains how cancer patients can improve their health, even if they get conventional cancer treatment with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. The book is divided into two sections. Section I contains information and discoveries that are the foundation for preventing and curing cancer. It also explains the foundation for body nutrition, including how energy and healthy intestinal bacteria are the foundation for excellent health. God gave us food to produce energy, but he didn't explain what food does or how the body converts and processes food. More importantly, God didn't tell us how food is utilized in the body. This first section of the book will do that. Section II shows us how the body uses food to produce energy and food that will cause disease. It lists the foods producing good health and the foods that produce bad health. The second section (Section II) of the book contains information on 54 food choices, good and not good foods, nutrients, and supplements that produce energy in your body, poor health, and disease. These good and not-so-good food choices determine the health of your intestinal bacteria, body cells, blood, and organs. Section II lists more than 54 of the most common foods, nutrients, and supplement groups. It shows the energy values in food that produce great energy and food that produces little or no energy. The food, nutrient, and supplement groups have been graded on a scale from 10 (great and good energy) down to one (poor or no energy). I also list the magnetic food value, pH, and energy value, plus the nutrition value for keeping good health. Hippocrates (c. 460 - 370 BC) said, "Let thy food be thy medicine, and let thy medicine be thy food." This is especially true in preventing or helping to cure cancer.

Playing with Memory

Using animals, music, and art, she discovered that human beings maintain access to their emotions and creativity for their entire lifespans, even with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease.
Fighting for this Life
Every family's cancer journey is different. Different beginnings, different treatments, different endings. Yet many are similar. The moment of diagnosis, the rounds of appointments, the juggling of day-to-day life. From the beginning, this cancer journey was shared with friends and family, as many stories are, through Facebook. Now it's been turned into an inspirational book to be shared with others. It doesn't contain a cure, or give up any secrets on living with cancer, it just tells the story as it happened, leading where it leads - the true story of Fighting for this Life: Our Cancer Journey.

Develop Your Diabetes Quotient
Once a diabetic, always a diabetic. The next best thing to do is to quickly learn how to navigate, manage and live optimally with this condition. This book is a guide for a new diabetic, an intermediate diabetic and for someone who has lived with diabetes for more than a decade. I can say this confidently because I have crossed all these stages as a diabetic myself. This book is also for the caretaker at home who sometimes manages to understand this condition much better than the diabetic herself. Each chapter in this book is a convergence of my diverse experiences across the various stages of my diabetes lifecycle. They have crystallised into scenarios with solutions thereof and work towards helping you understand and overcome them without experiencing the negative effects yourself or experiencing them only minimally. This is how I thought I could contribute to my fellow Indian diabetic. By passing on my immense learning and hoping that you will absorb it all and collapse your own individual learning curves. --- Godspeed.
My Pink Journey in Black and White
A message from the AuthorLife is just not fair, I thought, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 06, 2005. I had never been sick in my adult life, not even a severe cold.I was in the middle of planning my wedding for July 02, 2005, which was suppose to be an exciting and joyous occasion, yet now the only thing I could think about was breast cancer and will I live or will I die. The life I had planned was now being shattered. I knew nothing about breast cancer. The remote conversations I had engaged in were generally, limited, hushed and daunting. Therefore my diagnosis was governed by confusion, fear and anger which led to quick decision making with unfamiliar choices. There were many times I felt misunderstood. These feelings guided me to a place of loneliness and isolation, even when I was surrounded by those that loved me.During this time of vexation, I returned back to my special place of consolation..."journaling." I began journaling as a teen and considered this to be my personal and private time. This was a time for me to write about special moments, and occurrences. I would frequently reflect on previous entries in my journal. Doing so enabled me to assess my mental growth and my overall development as a person. Journaling always served as a genuine self- evaluation tool. During my breast cancer journey, journaling became my greatest support. I would write my feelings and thoughts and hide my deepest fears. Journaling gave me comfort in knowing my inner feelings would not be judged, or compared to others. Journaling taught me to be a better listener and also how to gently love myself back to a position that would enable me to reconcile with myself and sometimes even with God, that same God that I found myself at times questioning him about my predicament . Now eight years later, I decided to compile the entries from my journal into the form of poetry, memoirs and short stories. These excerpts reveal moments of frustration, and fear that made me strong, as well as moments of confusion, that made me seek knowledge. This knowledge I use today, in communities, and with newly diagnosed cancer patients, to heighten their awareness about risk factors and breast health. These excerpts also help patients during those moments of doubt; when they ask questions such as... "Is it normal for me to feel this way, and does others feel the same way?" remember... there is no right or wrong, everything is "Trial and Error" especially when you are in a place of despair. A Breast Cancer Dictionary is a part of the book, to familiarize you with words and there definitions as you attempt to understand a breast cancer diagnosis. About the authorLinda's choice of treatment during her journey was a modified radical mastectomy with delayed stacked DEIP Flap reconstruction. She participated in a five year clinical trial for node-negative breast cancer; she then proceeded with genetic testing. Linda is deeply committed to Breast Cancer Awareness in the community. She serves as a volunteer with American Cancer Society, and serves on a number of ministries at New Psalmist Baptist Church, in Baltimore, Maryland. She is an active member with "Sister's Network Inc.' In a masterful way she captures you with a wealth of information, in the form of poetry, short stories and memoirs, which will turn you from fear to fearlessness. Use Your Head, Heal Your Heart
As a fit and active 51-year old, with low cholesterol and no obvious risk-factors, I experienced a near fatal heart attack.I was fitted with a stent and prescribed a life-sentence of medication, that contained a long list of terrible side effects, and was told that the chances of another heart attack were quite high.Confused, scared and frustrated at the position I found myself in, I decided to learn as much as I could about heart disease. What I have discovered along my journey to recovery, is that most of what the general public believe about heart disease is incorrect, and is actually harming their health.Worse still, many doctors and the mainstream media continue to prescribe and promote medications, dietary and lifestyle interventions that either don't work or lead to further health complications. Use Your Head, Heal Your Heart is the accumulation of knowledge I have gained from numerous books, scientific journals, clinical trials and medical papers, broken-down into simple language, and outlining the lifestyle interventions that you can take, to prevent or recover from heart disease.
