Smiles Made Here

Ingram 出版
2024/03/12 出版

Welcome to A Practice Built on CultureIn an orthodontic practice, great culture is about more than creating a good place for people to work, it can determine the success of the practice. A great workplace culture is one where everyone smiles, is genuinely happy to be there, and works together as a team. It's clear to anyone entering the practice that something truly amazing is happening, and that amazing feeling translates to excellence in treatment and care.In Smiles Made Here: How Culture Forges Success in an Orthodontic Practice, Dr. Jeremiah Sturgill explains how Sturgill Orthodontics became a practice where team members-and patients-want to be. Using his own journey in building a practice as an example, he shares how other orthodontists can build an amazing culture in their practices by focusing on what matters most: providing excellent care while genuinely caring about people. From a different kind of morning huddle to showing heart in the workplace, coaching the team, understanding the value of autonomy, and creating an environment where people feel safe, Dr. Sturgill shows how focusing on culture can lead to an amazing transformation. In this book, Dr. Sturgill also shares answers to some of the most common questions that patients and parents of young patients often have about treatment, and how culture impacts the care at Sturgill Orthodontics. He talks about when treatment is needed, when to start, the art of the smile, and more. As a specialist in temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ or TMD) and airway protective orthodontics, Dr. Sturgill also shares the important role orthodontics plays in treating problems of the jaw and airway. Finally, he discusses how the value of orthodontics goes beyond straightening teeth and how all orthodontists are not created equal-and culture is the differentiator.

Endodontic Imaging

Ingram 出版
2024/03/09 出版

Endodontics is that branch of dentistry which deals with diseases related to pulp and periapical tissues. Management of endodontic pathosis focuses on preventing or eliminating infection of the root canal space. Conventional film-based radiography is the standard for endodontic radiography. Technological advances have led to the introduction of digital radiology with many potential benefits in endodontic practice. Three-dimensional imaging modalities have provided new dimensions to endodontics. The imaging techniques in endodontics allow the definition of the root and canal morphology, and particularly the determination of endodontic working length and final verification of the outcome of the root canal treatment. All these imaging modalities have introduced many potential benefits to endodontic practice making it simpler and accurate.

Remineralizing Agents in Dentistry

Ingram 出版
2024/03/08 出版

The human tooth is composed of highly mineralized tissues of the body containing hydroxyapatite as the primary constituent. Dental caries is a dynamic process that occurs when demineralization exceeds remineralization. But progression of dental caries is a slow process and during early stages, non-invasive intervention can convert the lesion to an inactive state from an active state. This principle is the key to preventive dentistry. The preventive approach of identification, conservative, non-restorative treatment of incipient caries saves both dental human resources for the profession and expense and suffering for the patient. Even though, in most of the developed countries, the prevalence of dental caries has decreased through the use of fluorides, the disease remains a major public health problem. Early diagnosis of incipient lesions can lead to a new era in preventive dentistry as remineralization. The best mode for caries management is the use of remineralizing products.

Comparative Study of Red Complex Periodontal Pathogens

Ingram 出版
2024/03/08 出版

Patients with fixed orthodontic appliances tend to exhibit signs of gingivitis and gingival enlargement with false pockets. Significantly higher occurrence of Treponema denticola and Tannerella forsythensis in adult patients with gingivitis and an attached fixed orthodontic appliance has been reported in the literature. Periodontal pathogens represent a significant risk not only for the periodontal disease but also for the patient's general health. Orthodontic anomalies and their treatment with a fixed orthodontic appliance create favourable conditions for colonisation of sub gingival plaque with periodontal pathogens and their following invasion into the cells. Hence the present study is aimed at identifying the red complex organisms, namely Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythensis and Treponema denticola in the plaque samples collected from pseudo pockets of subjects undergoing fixed orthodontic therapy. The organisms were identified using real time PCR.

The Occlusal Matrix Technique

2024/03/08 出版

In recent decades there has been a clear change in the epidemiology and pattern of carious lesion progression. There is still a high prevalence of caries in posterior teeth. Occult caries differs from this pattern in that it affects the dentin and leaves the enamel practically intact. Its causes are still unknown, but it may be linked to excess fluoride, some deficiencies in the structure and anatomy of the enamel and eating habits. In order to reduce time, improve practicality and aesthetics, there are techniques such as the occlusal matrix that make it possible to restore all the anatomical characteristics in a simplified way, given that the sculpting phase is still a major challenge for dental surgeons. The tooth must have its anatomical characteristics intact and be able to be moulded for later reproduction. Therefore, this study reports a clinical case in which the elements presented hidden caries lesions and were restored using the occlusal matrix technique associated with composite resin in an incremental manner and with bulk fill resin (single increment), which further reduces clinical time.

Clarifying the positioning of impacted third molars

Ingram 出版
2024/02/29 出版

This book shows the prevalence of impacted third molars and the classification of their position by analyzing panoramic radiographs of patients aged between 18 and 28 years. The eruption of permanent teeth is part of a complex series of events through which a tooth germ develops and the tooth erupts into its functional position in the arch. In this process, there are numerous possible occurrences that interfere with tooth eruption, leading to inclusion. Preoperative radiographic assessment of third molars is essential for correct diagnosis, the use of follow-up therapies for associated neoplasms and appropriate surgical planning. Many of the factors that influence the decision to extract these teeth are revealed in this evaluation. It shows a higher prevalence of inclusion in the lower third molars and a slight presence of anodontia related to them. This book is aimed at dental students and professionals interested in oral surgery and the use of complementary radiographic examinations for diagnosis. Happy reading!

Imperfect Amelogenesis in Children

Ingram 出版
2024/02/26 出版

Enamel anomalies affect the structure of dental tissues. Whether genetically conditioned or acquired, they remain rare diseases. These enamel anomalies exist as isolated entities, or are associated with the clinical picture as part of syndromes; these affections are correlated with the stage of development and biological processes underlying odontogenesis since the embryological origin of dental cells, Amelogenesis imperfecta is a rare hereditary genetic pathology, generally affecting the enamel of both temporary and permanent dentitions, . It affects the structure of the enamel, and these alterations may be either limited to the teeth, and thus called non-syndromic, or associated with anomalies of other systems, and thus called syndromic. Tooth shape and volume are affected, characterized by brittle enamel and normal dentine structure. Today, due to its highly heterogeneous nature (extremely variable macroscopic appearance), this pathology poses many diagnostic and management problems for many practitioners.

Smile Esthetics in Orthodontics

Arnav,Munjal  著
Ingram 出版
2024/02/16 出版

Aesthetic smiles grant access to the entire universe. A smile improves one's physical appearance.Smiles have the power to forge relationships and careers. The goal of orthodontic treatment is to produce an attractive, harmonious smile.Soft tissues and teeth must collaborate to achieve an attractive smile. Stable and effective occlusion is the primary objective of orthodontic treatment; however, when planning orthodontic treatment, orthodontists must also consider patients' aesthetic concerns and strive to achieve smiles that are more aesthetically pleasing. The challenge of standardising a suitable model and the variability in pertinent variables contribute to the complexity of smile analysis. To design an aesthetically pleasing smile, orthodontists must identify smile design elements such as harmonious facial soft tissues, gingival lip configuration, the interdental relationship between the teeth and lips while at rest and smiling, and so forth. therapeutic crown broadening, intrusion, or orthognathic surgery may improve labio-dental relations. These elements are emphasised in this literature review.

Low Level Laser Therapy

L R,Renuka  著
2024/02/16 出版

Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a technique that uses various frequencies of light to stimulate cellular energy, which penetrates your nerves, cells and tissue to enhance healing, reduce pain and inflammation after dental procedures. LLLT has been used in dentistry to promote wound healing in surgical wounds, extraction sites, recurrent aphthous ulcerations, etc. LLLT is an effective treatment strategy for periodontal therapy and surgery. Photobiomodulation, a process mediated by low-level lasers, promotes additional benefits in the near term, speeds up the healing of bone and gingival tissue, and lessens the side effects of periodontal surgery.

Effects of laser therapy on TMJ pain

2024/02/16 出版

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of low-power laser therapy (LLLT) on nociceptive behavior and neuronal activity of the trigeminal nucleus after unilateral disc injury of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in rats. Forty rats were used. Surgical access was made to the TMJ under general anesthesia. The animals were divided into 4 groups (n=10): Group 1: Surgical lesion of the articular disc and LLLT; Group 2: Sham - operated and LLLT; Group 3: Surgical lesion of the articular disc; Group 4, Naive: control without articular lesion or LLLT. Ten sessions of LLLT were carried out using a GaAs laser with a wavelength of 904 nm and an energy density of 6J/cm2. The development of neuropathic symptoms was assessed using the Von Frey test. Trigeminal ganglion samples were prepared for determination of protein expression of substance P (SP), transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype-1 (TRPV-1) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). Statistical analysis was performed (p

The Chairside Periodontal Diagnostic Aids

Aditi,Gupta  著
2024/02/15 出版

Periodontitis is a dental plaque induced chronic inflammatory disease invading periodontal tissues, caused by microbial dysbiosis and the host immune response. It is distinguished by the loss of alveolar bone and if remain untreated can lead to tooth loss, which in turns hinders the oral function and can negatively impact the overall quality of life. Therefore for the efficient prevention and management of the tooth it is necessary for the clinician to diagnose these diseases early and accurately. Currently, the diagnosis and grading of periodontal diseases are based on complete oral clinical and radiographic examination of the periodontium. Recent studies focused on the subgingival microbiome, inflammatory mediators and the host-response modifiers as the potential biomarkers present in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) and saliva, suggesting the potential for non-invasive chair side diagnostic aids in order to assist the clinician in the diagnosis and even prognosis of a particular periodontal disease. Hence, this book aims to review to date available chairside diagnostic periodontal aids, their significance and their commercially available options.
