These technologies include epigenetics, epigenomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics. Disciplines such as chrononutrition and precision nutrition have also experienced enormous progress. Veteran health writer Sara Gorman compellingly argues that the backbone of medical conspiracy theories is not misinformation but lack of trust--in our hospitals and in our democracy writ large. In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, trust in the healthcare system seems to be at an all-time low. Conspiracy theories are now mainstream, and distrust of government health agencies is common among private citizens. Yet many of those same individuals still profess trust in their doctors. What, then, is driving the general mistrust in medicine, and how can the public's faith be restored? The Anatomy of Deception investigates the cause behind this seeming uptick in distrust by tracing the unexpected connection between medical mistrust and the move toward far right ideology in the United States. Drawing on personal qualitative research and interviews, health writer and expert Sara Gorman challenges traditional concepts of medical mistrust and argues that the loss of institutional trust in American health care signals a larger breakdown in democracy as a whole. In six short chapters, Gorman advances the idea of medical mistrust not as a byproduct of personal or historical abuses but as a direct result of bias, miscommunication, and lack of access that has slowly eroded trust in the public health system over time. She argues that we can build back trust in medicine through investments in health equity as a first step towards healing the schisms present in modern American society. This book reveals how this "Trojan horse" technology embeds the logics of surveillance in the practice of medicine, forcing care providers to police their patients while undermining public trust and doing untold damage to those at risk. Elizabeth Chiarello draws on hundreds of in-depth interviews with physicians, pharmacists, and enforcement agents across the United States to take readers to the frontlines of the opioid crisis, where medical providers must make difficult choices between treating and punishing the people in their care. States now employ prescription drug monitoring programs capable of tracking all controlled substances within a state and across state lines. Veterinary Medical Education
Veterinarians are valued and respected professional figures. Veterinary research transcends species boundaries and includes the study of both spontaneously occurring and experimentally induced models of both human and animal diseases. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of the One Health program, and this adaptive and responsive approach should be implemented in veterinary medical education. These fundamental changes in the roles, responsibilities, and spectrum of activities of veterinary professionals require equal changes, improvements, and adaptations to veterinary science and medical education training programs. These modifications may include, for instance, increasing the participation of veterinary professionals in multidisciplinary human medicine teaching, training, and research teams (i.e., human anatomy, physiology, or biology, among others). Significantly, recent scientific and technological breakthroughs (i.e., RNA-based vaccines, improved molecular diagnostic tools (PCRs), innovative ICTs applied to health assessment and research, etc.) have been seen to influence current teaching and training programs in key, modern, and innovative veterinary colleges and universities.

"And when they write those history books, the heroes of the battle will be the hardworking families of New York," Governor Andrew Cuomo trumpeted on Labor Day 2020. But what if those heroes, those essential workers and their families, wrote the book themselves? In Until We're Seen, the heroes write their own stories. Through firsthand accounts by college students at Brooklyn College and California State University Los Angeles, Until We're Seen chronicles COVID-19's devastating, disproportionate effects on working-class communities of color, even as the United States has declared the pandemic over and looks away from its impacts. Very few of these students and their families had the luxury of laboring from home; if they were able to keep their jobs, they took subways and buses, and they worked. They drove delivery trucks, worked in private homes, cooked food in restaurants for people to pick up, worked as EMTs, and did construction. They couldn't escape to second homes; if anything, more people moved in, as families were forced to consolidate to save money. Together, the accounts in this book show that the COVID-19 pandemic did discriminate, following the race and class fissures endemic to US society. But if these are tales of hardship, they are also love stories--of students' families, biological and chosen--and of the deep resolve, mundane carework, and herculean efforts such love entails. Recounting 2020-2022 through the experiences of predominantly young, working-class immigrants and people of color living in the first two major US COVID-19 epicenters, Until We're Seen spotlights previously untold stories of the pandemic in New York, Los Angeles, and the nation as a whole.

Antibiotic Residues, Antimicrobial Resistance and Intervention Strategies of Foodborne Pathogens
Food products are becoming increasingly affected by the use of antibiotics, as the transfer of residual veterinary drugs, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB), and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and its genes (ARGs) occurs through unexplained mechanisms, representing a public health threat. As part of the framework proposed by One Health, it is essential to include information on animal and food chain pathogens in AMR surveillance programs, since human and animal health are interconnected. Therefore, this Special Issue will pay specific attention to human, animal, plant, food, and environment interfaces, and will try to explore intervention strategies against foodborne pathogens. Furthermore, it will characterize the variation in the composition of a healthy human gut microbiome in correlation with antibiotic usage and yoghurt consumption. The Special Issue focus on intervention strategies and food safety in light of antibiotic usage in animal and plants, and discuss ARB and ARG in further detail.
Kinase Inhibitor for Cancer Therapy
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, yet considerable efforts are still required to make this pathology curable. Despite the limits of available approaches, kinase inhibitors have marked a turning point in the treatment of different types of tumors. This class of compounds is the first oral targeted therapy approved for neoplasia, and about 30 compounds have entered the market in the last five years. Kinase inhibitors include small molecules and monoclonal antibodies and are endowed with fewer side effects than classical antitumor agents. The potential for application of this class of drugs is substantial, and this Special Issue focuses on the discovery and development of kinase inhibitors in terms of in silico studies, synthesis and identification of new compounds, drug delivery, formulation studies, and biological and pharmacokinetic evaluation.

The theme of the 67th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Dialysis Therapy was "Seeking out SDGs in Dialysis Medicine". SDGs, short for Sustainable Development Goals, encapsulate global objectives for sustainable development. This concept should be put into practice in the field of dialysis medicine, and we believe this Annual Meeting not only identified the essential elements for sustainable goals in dialysis care but also established a clear path towards their realization.In this Special Issue Reprint, we have curated a selection of papers presented during the conference. These papers cover critical topics, such as cardiovascular complications, renal anemia, CKD-MBD, diabetes and nutrition, frailty and sarcopenia, rehabilitation, reactive fibrosis, and environmental concerns. Our hope is that the insights and findings presented in this Special Issue Reprint will bring us significantly closer to the answers we seek.
