God Whispered "I've Got This" is a documentary of my real-life faith journey, where I tell my story as a caregiver. I share personal struggles when, at times, our lives were hanging on by a thread. Each time we thought we had risen to meet the challenge, we faced a new health battle just around the corner.I speak to the many emotions I experienced as a caregiver while watching my loved one heroically fight each battle with determination and relentless gratitude. He always focused on the positive side of things, and although they were hard to find in many instances, he never stopped looking. Sometimes I struggled and doubted, but in my darkest hours, I gently heard God whisper, "I've got this." I describe my personal faith journey, sharing both the good and bad days. But thankfully, God sustained me throughout each and every struggle. During the last decade, a lot more information about the group of critical ill elderly has been published, and several large networks cooperate in performing multinational studies in this field, one of them with roots in the ESICM. This book will give readers knowledge about the current epidemiology of elderly ICU patients, in patients centered outcomes and factors affecting these outcomes. A large part is devoted to age related changes in vital organ functions, and the specific geriatric "syndromes" like frailty, cognitive decline, reduced activity of daily living, sarcopenia and immunosenecence. This is all important for the practicing intensivists to know about. In addition, specific groups of the elderly in the ICU are also described like the elderly patients with trauma or sepsis.The book is written jointly by intensivists and geriatricians, often working in teams and originating from many different countries. Competencies of Managers and Service Excellence in Military Hospitals
Excellence in service is needed in the Military Hospitals in Malaysia to ensure the best and the most effective services are delivered. One of the factors that contribute to the provision of excellent services is the presence of competent managers. In this book, we report the outcome of a study aimed to determine the level of service excellence among managers and the factors influencing it in five Military Hospitals under the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia. A cross sectional study was conducted using self-administered questionnaires distributed to Military and Non-Military managers with different demographic backgrounds and service characteristics. The questionnaires consist of six components: the background of the respondents; the level of service excellence; skills; knowledge of the Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS), leadership style, and organisational compliance. By using the Structural Equation Model, findings of the study showed that all independent variables, i.e., skills, knowledge on BOS, leadership style and organisational compliance are significantly related to service excellence. Using Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression, it was discovered that managers in the lower grades, as well as Non-Military managers, demonstrated significant service excellence. In conclusion, the service excellence of managers in Military Hospitals is strongly influenced by their competencies. Military Hospitals administration should focus into the needs for training and suitable courses for Military managers in senior position to enhance their competencies.
