Healthcare Fandom
The healthcare industry has undergone significant changes since the introduction of consumer-directed health plans. As a result, an entire cottage industry in health tech was created to drive consumer involvement. Despite this, consumer engagement remains elusive. There is a clear need for "fan building" in healthcare. "Fans" are a critical engagement component of most industries; so how can healthcare remain the exception as it strives to be more consumer friendly? This book postulates that to have better (or more engaged) consumers in healthcare, we need to strive to build fans, followers, and friends.First, readers are initiated to the complexities in healthcare and necessary mindset changes to create fans and sustained engagement.Second, a model based on best practices from consumer disciplines provides a blueprint for building healthcare fans.Third, possible applications for Fandom in healthcare are illustrated with tools and templates to get leaders started on their journey for transformative engagement through Fandom. It incorporates wisdom based on interviews and discussions with healthcare leaders so Healthcare Fandom can become the oxygen needed for sustained healthcare engagement.

Optimizing Outcomes
In Optimizing Outcomes, pediatric neurologist Dr. Mark Mintz confronts long-held assumptions about the treatment of neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders. He addresses gaps in understanding, the overuse of medication, overutilization of resources and financial waste, and more issues that continue plaguing this area of treatment, specifically regarding children. He explains how many of the behaviors and pathologies currently associated with autism impede independent adult functioning, and that, in turn, early, intensive treatment and intervention can have profound effects on the lives of children and their families. This book is a story about Mintz bridging the gaps in the currently fragmented system of care for patients with autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental disabilities while adhering to precision and evidence-based medical sciences through his groundbreaking organization, NeurAbilites. Told through the lens of Dr. Mintz's own experiences with patients, and his deep knowledge in the field, Optimizing Outcomes models a way forward.
Competencies of Managers and Service Excellence in Military Hospitals
Excellence in service is needed in the Military Hospitals in Malaysia to ensure the best and the most effective services are delivered. One of the factors that contribute to the provision of excellent services is the presence of competent managers. In this book, we report the outcome of a study aimed to determine the level of service excellence among managers and the factors influencing it in five Military Hospitals under the Ministry of Defence, Malaysia. A cross sectional study was conducted using self-administered questionnaires distributed to Military and Non-Military managers with different demographic backgrounds and service characteristics. The questionnaires consist of six components: the background of the respondents; the level of service excellence; skills; knowledge of the Blue Ocean Strategy (BOS), leadership style, and organisational compliance. By using the Structural Equation Model, findings of the study showed that all independent variables, i.e., skills, knowledge on BOS, leadership style and organisational compliance are significantly related to service excellence. Using Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression, it was discovered that managers in the lower grades, as well as Non-Military managers, demonstrated significant service excellence. In conclusion, the service excellence of managers in Military Hospitals is strongly influenced by their competencies. Military Hospitals administration should focus into the needs for training and suitable courses for Military managers in senior position to enhance their competencies.
The Compassion Remedy
Does compassion have a place in medicine? Compassion has long been considered a "soft" skill in health care - nice to have, but ultimately unnecessary in a science-driven field. However, recent challenges in delivering care (including but not limited to the global pandemic) have revealed the need for a more compassionate approach to protect the health and well-being of patients and medical staff alike. Compassion is a state of being which affects not only psychological health but our physiology. When applied in a pragmatic fashion, compassion can lower stress levels, alleviate anxiety and depression, improve overall physical health, and allow us to navigate challenging situations with more grace. Cutting-edge research is now revealing just how powerful these psychophysiological effects are, and how even basic compassion-based practices can have long-lasting effects on both physical and mental health. This book will empower you to understand what compassion truly is-and just as importantly, what it isn't-so you can care for yourself and others at the highest level of integrity, both in and out of clinical situations. Packed with insightful stories, illuminating research, and pragmatic instruction, this book is the definitive guide for health care providers who wish to bring more balance and joy to their work every day.
The Bleep Test
What does it mean to help save someone's life? How does it feel to nearly kill a patient? Can we keep our patients safe at night? In the face of overwhelming pressures, can we thrive or only survive? And is a happy life as a doctor still possible? In the early months and years of work, it is these kinds of questions, rather than any technical or knowledge-based queries, which preoccupy many new doctors. This elusive, hidden curriculum is pervasive within departments, around hospitals and across health systems, but is rarely, if ever, explicitly examined and discussed. At its core is the issue that should matter above all others - how we can keep our patients as safe as possible. The Bleep Test combines gripping and startlingly vulnerable recollections of early experiences on the wards with an array of research findings, from psychology and human biology to anthropology, business and behavioural economics. Acknowledging that the truly complex challenges facing new doctors lie far beyond the realms of the traditional medical sciences in which they were trained, the book explains that the shift to being a doctor depends on first understanding how we think, reason and behave as someone we have been all our lives - a human amongst humans. Focused on the experiences of, and the issues facing, recently qualified medics, The Bleep Test is not only for young doctors, but also for anyone who manages them, works with them, cares for them or may one day depend on them.

Insane Society: A Sociology of Mental Health
This book critiques the connection between Western society and madness, scrutinizing if and how societal insanity affects the cause, construction, and consequence of madness.Looking beyond the affected individual to their social, political, economic, ecological, and cultural context, this book examines whether society itself, and its institutions, divisions, practices, and values, is mad. That society's insanity is relevant to the sanity and insanity of its citizens has been argued by Fromm in The Sane Society, but also by a host of sociologists, social thinkers, epidemiologists and biologists. This book builds on classic texts such as Foucault's History of Madness, Scull's Marxist-oriented works and more recent publications which have arisen from a range of socio-political and patient-orientated movements. Chapters in this book draw on biology, psychology, sociological and anthropological thinking that argues that where madness is concerned, society matters. Providing an extended case study of how the sociological imagination should operate in a contemporary setting, this book draws on genetics, neuroscience, cognitive science, radical psychology, and evolutionary psychology/psychiatry. It is an important read for students and scholars of sociology, anthropology, social policy, criminology, health, and mental health.
Bodies and Suffering
This book is a critical response to a range of problems - some theoretical, others empirical - that shape questions surrounding the lived experience of suffering. It explores how moral and ethical questions of personal suffering are experienced, contested, negotiated and institutionalised. Bodies and Suffering investigates the moral labour and significance invested in actions to care for others, or in failing to do so. It also explores circumstances - personal, political and social - under which that which is perceived as non-moral becomes moral.Drawing on case studies and empirical research, Bodies and Suffering examines the idea of the suffering body across different cultures and contexts and the experience and treatment of these suffering bodies. The book draws on theories of affect, embodiment, the phenomenology of illness and moralities of care, to produce a nuanced understanding of suffering as being located across the assumed borders of time, space, bodies, persons and things.Suitable for bioethicists, medical anthropologists, health sociologists and body studies scholars, Bodies and Suffering will also be of use on health science courses as essential reading on suffering bodies, mental health and morality and ethics issues.
Economics of the Pandemic
The year 2020 marked the time when China expected to attain its goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Yet it has witnessed the emergence of COVID-19 as a global pandemic that has spread to almost all countries and regions throughout the world. This serious public health disaster has brought with it severe economic shock, resulting in unexpected challenges to the completion of economic and social development goals. This title compiles the latest research, from a variety of perspectives, into the impact of COVID-19 on the Chinese economy. Economic experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences analyze the current trends as well as short-term and long-term countermeasures in the agricultural, industrial, employment, and public health sectors and focus on supply and demand. They argue that China's actions toward and promotion of economic recovery need to adapt to variability and uncertainty, and policy choices should be made in the light of the dialectical relationship between variance and invariance. The book will appeal to students and scholars of economics, political science, and social development.

Public Policy Lessons from the AIDS Response in Africa
Public Policy Lessons from the AIDS Response in Africa examines how the interplay between national state dynamics in Africa and the global political arena has shaped the global AIDS response, and in this context develops a framework for analysing public policy action more broadly in contemporary Africa.By applying comparative political sociology to AIDS public action, this book identifies four political models that are applicable to public initiatives. Fred Eboko goes on to test these in other domains - namely, the malaria and tuberculosis health subsectors, and the education and environment sectors. By articulating global and national connections and contributing a critical perspective grounded in African scholarship and French political science, the author builds a bold and ambitious framework with the potential to enable coherent and effective public policy action in Africa. This book will be of interest to scholars and students of public health, global health, political science, and development studies, as well as policy-level practitioners in the areas of global health and development.
The Pandemic Crisis and the European Union
This book assesses the implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for the European Union (EU), as well as its response in dealing with an overarching, multidimensional crisis with consequences extending beyond public health safety to political, economic, legal, and institutional arenas. It argues the pandemic represents a symmetric crisis cutting across countries with different social, economic and political characteristics and which yet - despite favouring cooperative solutions at the supranational level - has largely been met with initial responses of a national, even local, nature. So, how well did the EU perform as a crisis manager in the pandemic crisis? This book will be of key interest to scholars, students and readers of crisis, pandemic and health management, European Union politics and governance.
COVID-19 and Psychology in Malaysia
Part of a mini series of Focus books on COVID-19 in Malaysia, the chapters in this book addresses the psychosocial impact on the pandemic and ways in which people have learned to develop the ability to be more resilient despite the challenges of living and working during this public health crisis.Covering a range of topics including life under lockdown, working on the frontlines, and the rapid adaptation to online teaching, the contributors highlight the pervasiveness of the pandemic on Malaysian society, identified factors that potentially increase the psychosocial impact of the pandemic on different segments of the population and how Malaysians have found ways to cope throughout this period. This is an opportunity to witness how researchers from multiple disciplines can join forces during challenging times. There are a great many lessons to be learned from the successes and failures in responding to the pandemic and the measures that have been necessary to contain it. A fascinating read for scholars with an interest in crisis management in non-Western contexts, especially those with a particular interest in Malaysia, or Southeast Asia more generally.
HIV in the UK
This book explores the thoroughly human dimension of the health care and prevention responses to the HIV crisis in the UK, and the impact that such initiatives had on the progression of the epidemic. This book presents a compelling account of the unfolding of the epidemic and the initiatives that made all the difference in the care and prevention of HIV in the UK from the early 1980s to the present time. Drawing on interviews with people with HIV, doctors and nurses involved in their care, leaders of AIDS charities, activists, and politicians, it identifies and describes the models of care developed in response to the onset of the HIV epidemic, and its impact on NHS and voluntary organisations. It goes on to explore the political responses, the evolution of HIV stigma, and the personal impact of the early high mortality rates. Finally, it discusses recent organisational changes in the provision of care and prevention services. In doing so, this volume identifies the lessons learnt from the care and prevention of HIV, both in relation to HIV infection and other conditions, such as COVID-19, and discusses future challenges. This book will be of great value to those working in services dealing with HIV, charities, and Clinical Commissioning Groups and GP organisations, as well as social historians and medical sociologists.
Physical Activity in Low- And Middle-Income Countries
This book critically evaluates the complex relations between physical activity, health imperatives and cultural and social opportunities in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).The book explores the uncertainty of knowledge around physical activity behavior and its distinctive meanings in LMIC contexts, the factors influencing physical activity, and how populations across the world understand and live the concept of physical activity. It discusses the key challenges and opportunities for sustaining physical activity within geographically and culturally diverse contexts of LMICs; introduces the reader to contemporary global physical activity approaches, models and policies; and presents case studies from around the world, including Asia, Africa, South America, the Pacific and Europe. Overall, the text relates theory to practical examples to facilitate a better understanding of physical activity in context, emphasizes the need for targeted, context-specific and locally relevant interventions to create PA-enabling environments in LMICs, and highlights the role of a range of stakeholders, including policy makers and urban planners, sport and recreation services, mass media, educators and the civil society in shaping population physical activity levels. Taken together, this edited volume brings together the latest research on PA in LMICs from around the world, informs and directs future research and necessary policy change towards the sustainable integration of PA opportunities, and seeks to ultimately foster and promote population-based PA in LMIC settings.By presenting empirical data and policy recommendations, this text will appeal to scholars, researchers and practitioners with an interest in physical activity research, public health, health promotion, sociology of sport, and sports sciences in LMICs, as well as policy makers and experts working in health promotion, public health, sports and fitness, but also in the urban planning and infrastructure and governmental industries.

Strategies for Recognizing and Eliminating Gender Bias for Healthcare Leaders
Women in healthcare leadership, both physicians and non-physicians, continue to be underrepresented in leadership roles and have a more difficult time advancing their careers than their male counterparts. This book explores the phenomenon and reasons behind the lack of women in healthcare leadership roles and offers practical strategies for addressing this gender leadership inequity. The historical, social, and policy origins are identified within the context of unconscious biases, with solutions built upon examining the archetypal stories underneath these biases, including those of several contemporary healthcare leaders. Gender imbalanced leadership teams in healthcare perpetuate policies and cultures that are not conducive to equal opportunities, which is contributing to high turnover and attrition among women professionals in an industry that is 85% female worldwide. Irrespective of one's gender, healthcare leaders can learn to identify the barriers and reframe solutions based upon these fresh narratives. Most policy and healthcare industry explorations of these issues do not explore the rich scholarly work of gender bias at the cultural level. As a bonus, this book also has a vast bibliography and reference component that can serve as an excellent source for those seeking deeper exploration of the issues the book addresses.

It provides a comprehensive review of the various defenses available to healthcare professionals, such as the doctrine of informed consent, the statute of limitations, contributory negligence and the comparative negligence defense. Throughout the book, the author examines the impact of medical malpractice on healthcare professionals and patients. He discusses the emotional and financial toll of malpractice lawsuits on healthcare providers and the potential impact on patient care. Finally, the textbook explores strategies for preventing medical errors and reducing the risk of malpractice claims. It provides guidance on effective communication, patient safety, and risk management through case studies and true life events with an extensive discussion on the legal defenses to medical malpractice. Overall, "Medical Malpractice in Health Law" is an essential resource for healthcare professionals, legal professionals, patients and students who want to understand the legal and ethical complexities of medical malpractice and its impact on the healthcare system.

Equity, Equality & Justice for All
At its core, this memoir emphasizes the shared responsibility everyone has to advance equity, equality and justice for all. This memoir was inspired during Miller's tenure as California's first-ever health equity officer and leading advisor to Governor Jerry Brown on issues of health and mental health disparities. Building upon several years of professional leadership experiences in the field of health and human services, Mr. Miller's role as Deputy Director of California's Office of Health Equity was a tipping point in his life - a time where he was afforded a platform to affect change at the highest levels of state government. Such an opportunity could only have been dreamed of by his ancestors, and without the sacrifices of those that came before him, his story would not be possible. Therefore, Miller pays tribute and honors those who paved the way for him by documenting his powerful journey. As evidenced in this memoir, Miller's leadership is not confined to healthcare, as he shares stories that help readers understand that one's optimal health and wellbeing is not solely predicated on who their doctor might be or where they receive healthcare. Instead, it is heavily predicated on where a person lives, learns, works, plays and prays. These determinants of health carry the most importance in each person's life, and Miller weaves important themes into his personal memoir. Whether you are an academic, a high school student, graduate student, civil rights leader, aspiring healthcare executive or a policy maker, this book will resonate deeply with you.

Helping Yourself Help Others
"A practical, highly informative, and sympathetic guide." -The Washington Post Most of us will become a caregiver at some point in our lives. And we will assume this role for the most personal reason imaginable: wanting to help someone we love. But we may not know where to start, and we may be afraid of losing ourselves in this daunting task. Former first lady Rosalynn Carter, a longtime advocate for caregivers and mental health, knows firsthand the challenges of this labor of love. Drawing upon her own experiences and those of hundreds of others whose stories she gathered over many decades, Mrs. Carter offers reassuring, practical advice to any caregiver who has faced stress, anxiety, or loneliness. Helping Yourself Help Others, reissued here with a new foreword, is as relevant as ever. Long before the COVID-19 pandemic inspired national conversations about the vast undervaluing of unpaid caregiving, the dangers of burnout, and the merits of self-care for relief, Rosalynn Carter was shining a light on these matters and everything else that caregivers confront. Filled with empathy, this encouraging guide will help you meet a difficult challenge head-on and find fulfillment and empowerment in your caregiving role.
Health Humanities for Quality of Care in Times of Covid -19
The Covid pandemic has led us into an upheaval that has made us question the certainties underlying what it means to be a human being in our age; the ability to control medical and social facts through evidence. For the first-time western and developed countries have had to confront what many populations from the developing world (Africa. Latin America, etc) face on a daily basis with HIV and Ebola, etc. The Interconnectedness of Globalization has been the real disseminating catalyst of COVID 19, and many scientists wonder if this virus is the result of the Anthropocene age, with its indisputable lack of respect for the natural ecosystems. The virus has demonstrated that our frailty is only skin deep, and it has not only brought death, despair, but it has broken our interdependency as human beings, by imposing self- isolation as well as creating new ways of connections so that safety cannot imply loneliness. In this book, the coping strategies that originate from the multiplelanguages of care such as narrative, literature, science, philosophy, art, digital science are shown not only as reflective tools to promote health but also wellbeing amongst carers, patients, students, and citizens of our planet Earth. These strategies should be supported by the decision makers since they are low-cost investments necessary to make the health care system work. They however require a change of cultural paradigm. This book is a useful toolkit for patients, citizens and care services physicians who want to learn more on how to live better with this new world.
EHR Governance
Organizations spend large amounts of money to purchase, deploy, and optimize their Electronic Health Records (EHRs). They are not plug-n-play systems so a commitment to an ongoing improvement cycle is necessary. When done well, this responds to the people, the process, and the technology. When not done well, complete failure of the system could result in costing the organization thousands of dollars. Based on the foundational premise that EHR governance done right speeds up change and leads to a positive user experience, this book draws upon more than a decade of work with government, academic, and nonprofit organizations using Epic, Allscripts, McKesson, Meditech, and Cerner. Designed to be practical and pragmatic, it outlines a strategic process that can scale to small and large organizations alike. It begins with how to articulate a clear vision to organizational leaders so they can champion strong EHR governance both theoretically and financially. It then walks through each step required for leading successful change, calling out critical lessons learned to help the reader avoid pitfalls and achieve measurable improvement more rapidly. It concludes with a commitment to ongoing growth and refinement through benchmarked metrics, innovation, and out-of-the-box thinking.
The Business of Medicine
This book gives the Long View of the Business of Medicine based upon my experience starting as a medical student seeing patients for the first time in 1970 until the present day. This is another window into medicine as experienced from the viewpoint of a clinician at the point of service with the patient. The reader will learn that medicine changes from time to time and from place to place. The reader will learn that the rate of change is increasing and Artificial Intelligence is knocking at the door to make the rate of change even faster. Finally, the reader will learn that the patient is not alone with the doctor. Other "Stakeholders," are there with their strings manipulating the doctor like a puppet. The cast of characters includes the FDA, CDC, NIH, American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Hospital Association, politicians at every level of state and local government, law enforcement agencies, various courts, anonymous complaint filers, gun control lobbyists, FBI, NSA, State Medical Boards, Malpractice Companies, Peer Review Committees, Supervisors, Quality Care Committiess, Medical Insurance Companies, Advocates for each minority that choose to become "Protected Minorities," and any group that wishes to impose Virtue Signaling between the patient and the Science of Medicine, Pharmacuetical Companies, Lobbyists for Pharmaceutical Companies, and Social Media and News Agencies, and anyone who choose to enter the arena at any time whether in the open or anonymously. Whistle Blower Laws are not very good at protecting doctors wishing to speak the truly.
The Paralyzing Truth
Although our hearts ached, our negative emotions demanded us to give up hope from this tragedy, but we couldn't let them dictate how the rest of this journey would end. We took back control. Romans 8:18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory, He will reveal to us later. We learned through this journey that we could rely on our faith each day, one day at a time, living beyond the lies we tell ourselves, and that we could find strength and hope and get through each day as it came, as long as we were willing to make the right choices over and above our feelings, God is always faithful to give us the strength we need. If you feel alone in the midst of a storm you're facing, looking to be inspired and hopeful through one's tragedy, even in Grief, this book is for you.
Only Today
This story is about how one brave woman chose to live her life with faith and love despite having ALS. Michelle Serlet was not only my sister but a daughter, aunt, cousin, wife, mother, Mimi, and friend to hundreds of people. Although her journey with ALS was not an easy one, she chose to live "Only Today" and reassign the ALS acronym to write A Love Story that epitomizes all she learned through her illness. We hope that you can use her story as an inspiration for your own walk, whether you are a person diagnosed with a terminal illness or a precious caregiver. You will also find many tips and suggestions offered by other caregivers that may make the tremendous job of caregiving a little easier. Please note that all of the book's proceeds are going to the ALS of the Heartland. To God be the Glory!
Do You Speak Patient?
Why join the medical profession in the first place? For many medical professionals, the drive is a powerful desire to conquer disease combined with a solemn covenant to care for people - fellow human beings - to the best of one's abilities and judgments. This sense of purpose combined with the fulfillment obtained through complex problem solving becomes a powerful motivator that allows one to push the limits of personal growth during education and training. After medical school, residency training and fellowship, or one of the many educational tracks in healthcare, professionals set out to deliver quality healthcare, often with inadequate early mentorship. Then somewhere along the way, the burning passion and motivation that initially provided all the energy necessary to make a difference in the lives of others gets replaced with a sense of frustration and futility. Once this pattern emerges, the template for personal trauma is in place. Until that pattern is interrupted, the risk to both professional and patient is on an escalating trend line. Danger is near. I wish I could claim to have THE answer, a single path forward to navigate away from the abyss. But the truth is much more modest. What I do have is a simple mental model that has helped me reconnect to purpose. I am going to share it with you in hopes that your version will help you. For me, when I think back to all the patient visits that began with me saying, "TELL ME," the acronym takes me directly to that sense of purpose. You see, "TELL ME" was always an invitation. "TELL ME how things are going," or "TELL ME what brings you in today" provided a powerful opening for my patient to talk, and for me to listen. The connection soon followed, yet "TELL ME" has always been the start. In this book, I will explain what "TELL ME" has come to represent for me.The acronym is simple, but not always easy to do. As we go through each chapter, I will highlight some of the "AHA" moments that have occurred to me during my career. It is my hope that these simple representations will stimulate thinking so that you are able to attach your career experiences to the framework. As that happens, it is my hope that your sense of purpose can be refueled in meaningful ways, that you can find ways to ignite others, and that we all move a little closer to understanding how much we count on each other for health and quality of life as we strive to help others overcome their most difficult life challenges. And of course, as has always been the case, "TELL ME" is just a beginning.

The Circle of Change
The clinician-patient relationship is an unapologetic reminder that clinical practice is an applied science, and that clinical knowledge only becomes useful through human interaction and application. Through dialog, the relationship serves as a powerful conduit for information flow. This text, utilizing stories of successes and failures I have journaled over 44-years practicing medicine, argues that there is hidden knowledge important to patient care beyond technology's reach that can only be gained through mutual trust, rapport and the right questions asked. But there are many external factors that constrain and strain the clinician-patient relationship. Institutional and cultural restrictions foisted upon medical practice are laden with bureaucratic, political, and economic demands which impinge upon time spent with the patient. Correcting the situation is challenging because many of the causative factors are of a societal nature and not within one individual's influence. But nurturing the clinician-patient relationship and harvesting information from patients' stories that may explain conflict, impasse, resistance to plan of care and lifestyle changes is well within our scope and is in fact necessary for good care. As such, it is the clinician's job to develop skills for impasse resolution and interview techniques to explore the personal, family and cultural relational dynamics and nuances of meaning, lying within the illness narrative. While physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and others are well-trained to take inventory of the body's biological systems, practitioners often lack the skill set to ask "the right questions" for exploring psychosocial systems, and therein lies the pedagogic vacuum to be filled. It is the purpose of this text to introduce a meaning-based problem-solving approach, The Circle of Change, as a pragmatic map and compass for gathering and processing patients' narratives to uncover meaning and care for

That's Good Grease
Why do some people contact hospice when a family member is in a serious medical crisis and some people don't? Is it the fear of the unknown? What happens if you call hospice? What does hospice care actually involve, anyway? That's Good Grease ever so gently helps readers to understand what hospice care is all about through the author's stories and experience gained from 20 years as a hospice patient contact volunteer. Turning to any page the reader will learn that hospice care is nothing even close to what has been experienced before. This book may surprise readers when they learn that: -Food plays an important part in hospice care, but not necessarily for nourishment.-Family pets are included in the plan of care for the person on hospice service.-Humor is used quite often in hospice care.-The person and their family are actually in charge of their hospice care.-Every hospice is mandated by Medicare to have volunteers.Rick Schneider has a manner of talking to the reader in a way that removes the apprehension of the word "hospice". This book, like hospice itself, is unique. As the reader walks into its pages they soon learn that the title, a quote from a person on hospice service, perfectly describes the common sense of hospice care.
