The Action of Bioactive Compounds on Human Health or Disease
Bioactive compounds are being studied to better understand their effects on health and disease. These compounds are found in several foods, such as beverages (wine, cedar, and juices), vegetable oils, spices (curcuma, pepper, etc.), teas, and infusions. In in vitro and in vivo studies, some of these compounds have already shown several potentially beneficial effects on human health and in the prevention of disease. Plant bioactive compounds are of great interest in these areas due to the range of compound varieties and actions, such as thermogenesis, inflammation, metabolism, and endocrine factors. More research is needed to explore their use in improving physical performance; the aging process; and preventing or helping treat diseases such as obesity, CVD, diabetes mellitus tumors, and inflammatory processes in general.
Current Challenges and Advances in Skin Repair and Regeneration
We have organized this Special Issue to discuss the appropriate possibilities for skin reconstruction and regeneration. Luze et al. explained how antiseptic-loaded BNC represents a promising and effective approach for the treatment of biofilms. Korzeniowski et al. demonstrated how a bromelain-based enzymatic method offers a good, safe debridement option to improve the life quality of children with severe burns. Martinovic et al. wrote a paper titled "Objective Skin Quality Assessment after Reconstructive Procedures for Facial Skin Defects". An interesting technique was introduced by Woo Yoo et al.-a modified mini-keystone flap technique for covering tiny volar pulp defects of the fingertip, with few complications and favorable outcomes. Russo et al. conducted a comparative study between Connettivina Bio Plus and Fitostimoline Plus. They showed that both were secure and effective for treating acute superficial skin lesions. Hwan Kim et al. published "A Prospective Randomized Trial Comparing Paste-Type Acellular Dermal Matrix to Standard Care for the Treatment of Chronic Wounds". Korzeniowski et al. enriched the Special Issue with a systematic review titled "The Role of the Immune System in Pediatric Burns". Finally we presented the paper "Collection of Key Surgical Techniques for the Reconstruction of Midface Skin Defects" for the midface's significant role in defining important facial traits. In recent decades, researchers have made notable advances in the science of pair bonding, romantic love, and attachment. Access to novel instruments and methods-including fMRI, EEG, and virtual reality-as well as animal studies, has provided a platform to advance our understanding of the factors and mechanisms that underly the formation and maintenance of pair bonds and other attachment relationships. From short to long-term pair bonds, the great variation in relationship strategies has opened up important areas of research. Thus, this Special Issue, entitled "The Advances in the Science of Mating, Love, and Attachment", showcases the emerging and evolving field of relationship science, including a collection of studies that examine romantic relationships through a new lens or build upon existing work. The resulting collection includes 12 peer-reviewed articles, representing seven countries that examine a range of topics on the science of love and attachment, using a variety of methods-including virtual reality, EEG, and Q methodology.
