Quality of gentamycin injection in Bamako
Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic produced by Micromonospora echinospora. It is a bactericidal inhibitor of protein synthesis. It is generally used as a curative treatment in association with beta-lactam antibiotics. However, to guarantee therapeutic success, it is essential to use quality drugs in today's context of substandard, adulterated and falsified multi-source essential drugs.The overall aim of this study was to assess the quality of injectable gentamicin sold in Bamako's health centers and private pharmacies. 20 samples were analyzed and found to be non-compliant with the required specifications. The causes of non-conformity were either under-dosage of active ingredient, over-dosage of active ingredient and/or out-of-specification average volume or pH.The results clearly raise the question of the systematic registration of drugs before they are placed on the market.

Pharmacokinetics of Moxifloxacin in Goats
Pharmacokinetics of moxifloxacin @ 5mg.kg-1.b.wt was studied in healthy and bifenthrin intoxicated goats (n=4), following its IV administration. The MIC of moxifloxacin in plasma was maintained up to 8h in healthy goats whereas it was maintained only up to 6h in bifenthrin-intoxicated goats. The AUC was significantly decreased from 7.86簣0.06g.ml-1h to 6.90簣0.076g.ml-1h in bifenthrin-intoxicated goats. The distribution half-life (t1/2) and volume of distribution at steady state Vd(ss) 竅observed were 0.08簣0.0008 h and 2.43簣0.01L.kg-1 respectively in healthy goats and 0.081簣0.0006h and 2.32簣0.03L.kg-1 in bifenthrin intoxicated goats. Total body clearance was increased from 636.06簣4.68 ml.kg-1h-1 in healthy to 725.4簣7.92 ml.kg-1h-1 in intoxicated goats. However, decrease in elimination half life (t1/2) from 2.81簣0.04h to 2.61簣0.01h was observed in intoxicated goats. The dosage regimen of moxifloxacin calculated in healthy animals is 4.99 mg.kg-1 followed by 4.73 mg.kg-1 at 12h interval effective against bacterial isolates with MIC

Post-COVID Symptoms in Long-Haulers
In 2020, the spread of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2 virus) led to the worst worldwide healthcare crisis of this century. The Survival of Colon and Rectal Cancer
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and the second most common cancer in women. In 2020, there were more than 1.9 million new cases of colorectal cancer. With increasing life expectancy, we are seeing more elderly patients. However, the number of young patients under 50 is also increasing. Survival rates have improved by optimising surgical procedures such as total mesorectal excision (TME) and complete mesocolic excision (CME) and multidisciplinary approaches, especially for advanced carcinomas. In recent decades, standardisation of treatment has been an important tool for improving survival rates. Today, with increasing therapeutic options and the results of prognostic factor research, the possibilities to individualise therapy are increasing. Both under- and overtreatment should be avoided. Quality management is essential to improve outcomes. However, not only is the length of survival time important, but also the patient's quality of life.
Molecular Detection, Characterization, Antimicrobial Resistance and Genomic Epidemiology of Pathogenic Bacteria
Recently, growing attention has been directed worldwide toward antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacterial pathogens. The infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria were declared a 'silent pandemic' due to increased patient morbidity and mortality. To combat such infections, specialists in various fields need to work together, which will ensure a better understanding of the mechanisms driving resistance dissemination.The resistance spreading in bacteria is driven by several lineages called 'global clones', the surveillance of which is an important task. Monitoring of AMR gene presence within samples of various origins is essential for tracking resistance acquisition and developing control measures within the scope of the One Health paradigm. Currently, molecular and whole-genome sequencing (WGS)-based methods are the gold standard for global clone detection and investigation of the pathogenicity factors in bacteria. This collection describes various applications of molecular biology, WGS, and genomic epidemiology methods for investigating bacterial pathogens, with a focus on population structure and AMR gene detection, and highlights the importance of genomic epidemiology methods for studying the clonal structure and AMR gene content of bacteria from various sources. New Challenges in Ocular Drug Delivery
The clinical treatment of diseases affecting the eye globe is often hindered by the physiological protection structures and mechanisms of the organ, as well as by the unsuitable physico-chemical features of the active molecules, specifically with regard to the retina and posterior eye segment. Intravitreal injections of drugs and monoclonal antibodies are at present the most common therapeutic procedure to reach the retinal area. However, such vaccinations are associated with a high risk of side effects, apart from those requiring the intervention of a physician. One of the 'dream goals' in this field remains the ability to reach the retinal area using a simple topically applied eye-drop formulation. Research in recent years has progressively made available new strategies and technologies to overcome the problems that hinder an efficacious ocular drug bioavailability, leading to even more safe, easy-to-use and highly compliant therapeutic means. This Topic is aimed at collecting the most recent experiences from worldwide laboratories to update of existing state-of-the-art methods and introduce new perspectives toward innovative and effective ocular therapies. Heart attacks and strokes accounted for approximately 85% of these fatalities The prevalence of CVDs is worsened by metabolic diseases, particularly diabetes, which affects about 422 million people globally, primarily in low- and middle-income countries, and causes 1.5 million deaths annually. Early detection and intervention of CVDs and metabolic diseases are crucial, as many cases can be prevented by addressing modifiable behavioral risk factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, obesity, physical inactivity, and harmful alcohol consumption. Potentially Inappropriate Medicines for the Elderly
The aging process is marked by a greater number of chronic-degenerative diseases, which predisposes the geriatric population to be treated with a greater number of drugs, thus increasing the risks related to therapy, such as adverse reactions and drug interactions. This work is an important piece of research for the completion of the Pharmacy course. The data obtained in this study was relevant in the context of public health, as it revealed important variables relating to knowledge of the pharmacoepidemiology of potentially inappropriate medicines for the elderly. Highlighting the risks of using PIMs in the elderly, as was done in this study, demonstrates that pharmaceutical interventions should be carried out in the context of multidisciplinary care to ensure access to safe medicines that are appropriate to the specificities of the elderly's pharmacotherapy.
Study of the use of anesthetics
The effort to suppress pain caused by surgical procedures through the use of drugs dates back to antiquity, including the oral administration of ethanol and opiates. The study was carried out in a public hospital in Campina Grande-PB, using a qualitative-quantitative approach. Sixty-five patients were analyzed, aged between 41 and 60 years, hysterectomy was the most common procedure and the majority of patients were not hypertensive. Among the anesthetics studied, heavy bupivacaine had the highest incidence in the study, followed by morphine and midazolam. It was also observed that vomiting and dizziness were the most common ADRs. Cephalothin and dipyrone were the most commonly used concomitant drugs. In the post-surgical period, the most commonly used drugs were metoclopramide, followed by dipyrone and cephalothin. The results of this study serve as a basis for future studies on the choice of appropriate anaesthetic techniques for surgical procedures, with the aim of minimizing the occurrence of adverse effects that could prolong hospitalization.
