Nursing Ethics
Published in 1900 by nursing superintendent and teacher Isabel Robb, these essays shed light on the ethical and practical principles of the nursing profession in its early years.Though much of the information herein is outdated, Robb's discussions offer historical insights into how hospitals operated in her time. Monitoring patients, assisting during surgeries, and keeping a ward safe and hygienic was a very different process circa 1900. Most of the machines seen today adjacent to hospital beds monitoring breathing and rate functions simply hadn't been invented: by necessity, nursing in 1900 was a more intensive and hands-on process. Modern nursing began with the innovations of Florence Nightingale in the 1850s, with the profession established more widely in the USA and Europe beginning in the 1870s.Robb is most focused upon the character traits and rigorous ethics required to nurse well. She elaborates at length upon the personal manner, standards of dress, and best practice in various nursing duties. She also elaborates on how the qualities of a good housewife to some extent mirror that of a nurse, and discusses the degree of physical fitness necessary for tasks. Chapters are devoted to the specialisms of the time - notably the senior nurse and head nurse - and to working night shifts.

Prevention and Management of Frailty
It is important to prevent and manage the frailty of the elderly because their muscle strength and physical activity decrease in old age, making them prone to falling, depression, and social isolation. In the end, they need to be admitted to a hospital or a nursing home.When successful aging fails and motor ability declines due to illness, malnutrition, or reduced activity, frailty eventually occurs. Once frailty occurs, people with frailty do not have the power to exercise or the power to move. The functions of the heart and muscles are deteriorated more rapidly when they are not used. Consequently, frailty goes through a vicious cycle. As one's physical fitness is deteriorated, the person has less power to exercise, poorer cognitive functions, and inferior nutrition intake. Consequently, the whole body of the person deteriorates. Therefore, in addition to observational studies to identify risk factors for preventing aging, various intervention studies have been conducted to develop exercise programs and apply them to communities, hospitals, and nursing homes for helping the elderly maintain healthy lives. Until now, most aging studies have focused on physical frailty. However, social frailty and cognitive frailty affect senile health negatively just as much as physical frailty. Nevertheless, little is known about social frailty and cognitive frailty. This special issue includes original experimental studies, reviews, systematic reviews, and meta-analysis studies on the prevention of senescence (physical senescence, cognitive senescence, social senescence), high-risk group detection, differentiation, and intervention.

These diseases are commonly associated with a peripheral insulin resistance, but an important role of insulin is played at brain circuitries that control food behaviour and autonomic activity. Brain insulin resistance is also associated with cognition impairment and Alzheimer Disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Disruptions in diet composition, e.g. hypercaloric diets, and patterns, as well as nutritional status contribute to the genesis of insulin resistance. In contrast, hypocaloric diets, different feed regimens and some nutrients have beneficial impacts on insulin resistance and disease development. This special issue "Impact of diet composition on insulin resistance" is developed to compile studies that highlight the beneficial or deleterious impact of different nutritional plans on insulin sensitivity and metabolism and that unravel mechanistic links between diet composition and nutritional status and the development of insulin resistance, both periphery and centrally.

EPR Effect-Based Tumor Targeted Nanomedicine
I am honored to undertake the work for Guest Editor for this Special Issue of EPR Effect-Based Tumor Targeted Nanomedicine for the Journal of Personalized Medicine. It has already been 35 years since we published the concept of the EPR effect for the first time. The discovery of the new concept of EPR effect gave an impetus effect of growth momentum in nanomedicine, and numerous works are focused on tumor delivery, although the initial idea was based on vascular permeability in infection-induced inflamed tissue, where we discovered bradykinin in the key mediator of vascular permeability.I know, however, there are pros and cons to EPR effect. Cons stem either from a poor understanding of EPR effect, or somehow a biased view of the EPR effect, or from the tumor models being used, particularly in the clinical settings where vascular blood flow is so frequently obstructed. I hope scientists in the clinic, or basic researchers working on the tumor drug delivery, will join the forum of this Special Issue and express their data and opinions.The scope of this issue includes an in-depth understanding of the EPR effect, and issues associated with tumor microenvironment and also further exploitation of EPR effect in human cancer. In addition, new strategies for enhancement of the EPR effect using nanomedicine will be welcome, which is as important as the EPR effect itself. These papers cover not only cancer therapy, but also imaging techniques using nanofluorescent agents, including photodynamic therapy for inflammation, and boron neutron capture therapy.
