Everything I Want To Tell My Kids About Business, But I'll Be Dead By The Time They Ask
As my career progressed, I realized that the early years' tasks were "do this, do that," for which my college and graduate courses prepared me. As my job responsibilities increased continually, I realized there was a whole new skill set that I had to acquire. For example, I had to manage people, create change, style-flex with everyone, resolve conflicts, become a leader, utilize the optimum process for making the right decisions, develop a plan to remain in balance, learn how to flourish in a complex corporate environment, determine what are the "critical success factors" for each of my jobs, develop an optimum company strategy (and then create a culture to match), develop action plans to improve underperforming operations, implement tactics to secure that next job promotion, and most importantly, learn how to achieve highest excellence in work habits, actions, and results; and carefully plan and implement my career steps. These new processes and principles I developed for my career became the basis for the book I wrote for my children. Results At age twenty-five, I was earning salary/bonus of $16,000. By age forty, my annual salary/bonus was $1.6 million. My job at that time was senior vice president and office of chief executive. My two children and son-in-law (now in their thirties) read my book in 2003, and it helped their careers greatly. Their present job titles are the following: Chief Operating Officer/Head of Trading and Risk Management for a Hedge fund Managing Director for an Investment Bank. CEO for an upscale restaurant chain. Final Thought By utilizing the processes and principles covered in my book, your job progress will become continually easier and clearer; it will be your "guide" for achieving success. PS, my book also includes brief stories from my three years of taxi driving in New York City. The reason for the taxi stories was to keep my kids' interest in reading the book (just to read the next "crazy" taxi story)! Highlights from five book reviews: "The book provided a compact view of one executive's journey and the skills, tools, and principles he needed for success - the ones not taught in college." "This book is truly a must read for anyone wanting to achieve success in their careers....it has something in it for everyone - whether you are fresh out of school, embarking on a new career, or trying to take your career to the next level." "This is a book that I am going to give to my kids. The principles and processes covered in the book will be a major part of their 'guide' for achieving career success." "Through this book, Steve Koskinas serves as the ultimate life and career coach! I wish that I could have encountered this book 20 years ago!" "This book does a masterful job describing how to progress in one's career. I have read a number of books on management principles and effective leadership and none of them provided a clear and easy to follow path to success as this book does for the reader." It's Just Business
We've heard it before, in some form or another: It's nothing personal, it's just business. While they claim it is meant to be reassuring, this phrase couldn't be further from the truth. It's a lie and a form of abuse. Abusers hide behind it, enabling them to perpetuate their toxic behaviour and avoid uncomfortable interactions. "It's just business" has morphed into a pervasive culture, affecting people's personal and professional lives. Author Dave Peters has seen-and experienced-what inevitably follows: feeling confused, victimized, and powerless. But after years of seeing this abuse firsthand, Dave developed the techniques to overcome it and teach his clients to do the same. And now you can too.Through research, anecdotes, and scenarios, It's Just Business: P.S. You're an A$$hole shares invaluable insights on how the "it's just business" culture came to be, who says and perpetuates its use, and why it exists. Following a directed step-by-step approach, readers will learn how to identify abusive behaviour, develop the necessary skills to overcome it, and take back their power. Candid and practical, It's Just Business shows how to eliminate toxicity in the workplace and create an environment where everyone feels safe and can rise to their potential. But more than that, this self-help guide calls out abusive behaviour patterns and shows that workers will no longer tolerate the exploitation pervading business culture today.

Logic & Language
You can't engineer culture with reason and design. As decisions spread, they're already translated. As ideas land, they're already filtered. As strategies stick, they're already framed.Logic & Language begins where most leadership books stop: with the maps people silently carry. These maps are drawn from bias, story, habit, and half-remembered truths - and they shape every decision and interaction long before leaders present their strategies. In this practical and powerful second volume of NLP Mastery for Leaders, Paul O'Neill shows how culture shifts not through command, but through meaning. Leaders will learn how to: Surface hidden maps with precision questions.Expose the scaffolding beneath assumptions.Frame narratives that invite - not coerce.Reframe perspectives so coherence returns without force. This isn't about clever rhetoric. It's about alignment. Because the challenge isn't what's said. It's how meaning is made.Culture lives between us. It cannot be redesigned. Mostly concealed, it is revealed in language. And through language, it can move in new directions.Paul O'Neill equips leaders to decode complexity and guide systems with insight and precision. Dirtbag Billionaire
New York Times reporter and bestselling author David Gelles reveals how Patagonia became a global leader in doing well by doing good and how other companies are adopting its principles. This is the inside story of one of the most extraordinary brands in the corporate world, the rare company that is driven by environmental activism instead of cutthroat capitalism. Founded in 1973, Patagonia has grown into a wildly popular producer of jackets, hats, and fleece vests, with a cultlike following among hardcore alpinists and Wall Street traders alike, posting sales of more than $1 billion a year. But it's not just the clothes that make Patagonia unique. For decades, the company has distinguished itself as a singular beacon for socially responsible business, the rare company that can legitimately claim to be doing its damnedest to make the world a better place, while also making a profit. From its early efforts to take exemplary care of its employees, to its extensive work trying to clean up its supply chain, to its controversial activism, Patagonia has set itself apart from its peers with one unorthodox decision after another, proving that there is another way to do capitalism. At the heart of the story is Patagonia's founder, the legendary rock climber Yvon Chouinard. A perennial outsider who forged one of the most impressive resumes in the outdoor world, Chouinard also established himself as a pivotal figure in the history of American business. Guided by his anti-authoritarian streak and his unwavering commitment to preserving the natural world, Patagonia came to exert a powerful influence on other companies, paving the way for a new era of social and environmental responsibility. He started out as a dirtbag--a term affectionately bestowed on poor, itinerant outdoorsmen so uninterested in material possessions they are happy to sleep in the dirt--and he became a billionaire. Chouinard also proved that there was another way to be a philanthropist. In the twilight of his career, he gave away Patagonia, renouncing his wealth and committing all its future profits to fighting the climate crisis. Drawing on exclusive access to Chouinard and the Patagonia team, Dirtbag Billionaire offers new insights into the key moments that informed their priorities, shaped the company, and sent ripples across the corporate world.
Over Work
"Brigid Schulte is a vital voice on the future of work, and her carefully researched book lights the way to fewer hours, less stress, and more meaning."―Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Think Again and Hidden Potential, and host of the podcast WorkLife From the New York Times bestselling author of Overwhelmed, a deeply reported exploration of why American work isn't working and how our lives can be made more meaningful Following Overwhelmed, Brigid Schulte's groundbreaking examination of time management and stress, the prizewinning journalist now turns her attention to the greatest culprit in America's quality-of-life crisis: the way our economy and culture conceive of work. Americans across all demographics, industries, and socioeconomic levels report exhaustion, burnout, and the wish for more meaningful lives. This full-system failure in our structure of work affects everything from gender inequality to domestic stability, and it even shortens our lifespans. Drawing on years of research, Schulte traces the arc of our discontent from a time before the 1980s, when work was compatible with well-being and allowed a single earner to support a family, until today, with millions of people working multiple hourly jobs or in white-collar positions where no hours are ever off duty. She casts a wide net in search of solutions, exploring the movement to institute a four-day workweek, introducing Japan's Housewives Brigade--which demands legal protection for family time--and embedding with CEOs who are making the business case for humane conditions. And she demonstrates the power of a collective and creative demand for change, showing that work can be organized in an infinite number of ways that are good for humans and for business. Fiercely argued and vividly told, rich with stories and informed by deep investigation, Over Work lays out a clear vision for ending our punishing grind and reclaiming leisure, joy, and meaning.

(In)Formalizing Jobs in Latin America and the Caribbean
This report aims to deepen our understanding of informality of work and employment outcomes in Latin American and Caribbean labor markets, focusing on the interplay between personal income taxation, social protection policies, and consequently firm and workers' incentives to (in)formalize agreements. The report introduces a new analytical framework that centers on individual worker decisions, based on the value workers ascribe to present and future (contingent) benefits as compared with their costs, alongside negotiations with employers shaped by labor market competitiveness. Empirical analysis identifies and quantifies incentives for (in)formal employment and to simulate how reforms to policies and programs affect these incentives. This analysis underpins recommendations to improve the incentives to formalize employment and participate in personal income tax and social protection systems across LAC countries.
