A shortfall has been discovered in the deliberate development of Airmen. New Pentagon Action Officer's (AOs) quickly find themselves in need of a negotiations skill set as they are thrust into the "beltway" environment, where one building contains 20,000+ staff officers all trying to handle their hot issues. This is especially vital in an era of dwindling defense budgets. Although the USAF has begun to recognize the need for this training and (SAF/GCD and A1D) recently created the Air Force Negotiations Center of Excellence and the "Institutional Competencies List." These two efforts are a big leap forward, but will require time to fully integrate into the AF professional development system. This time gap until full incorporation leaves a generation of military officers without some requisite negotiation skills. To fill this critical skills void, a primer was developed. It presents the critical, basic steps to aid new AOs in fulfilling their duties. First, it must be clear that negotiation is not a 4 letter word. Negotiations are, in fact, the path to agreement on an issue where all parties involved can choose to either say "no," or choose to develop a mutually beneficial resolution. Developing the negotiating skill set requires the AO to determine who they are. Negotiating predispositions may be revealed through assessment tools, such as the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument or with other tools such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Once personal preferences are established, the next step is learning to communicate to influence. This ability involves both effective listening and speaking skills which includes the ability to frame and re-frame a discussion as well as detect and respond to non-verbal communications. The final step to developing the tools required for a negotiation skill set is to understand the military conflict handling mode. Gender and Negotiation
The original premise of this research paper was to look at patterns of male dominance inherent in today's society repeatedly reproducing themselves to undermine a woman's seat at the negotiations table. After a thorough review of multiple resources including books on negotiation, women and leadership, women and negotiation, and an online review of negotiation gender research and gender stereotypes, my findings took a different turn. In order to answer how a woman can get to the negotiations table, I had to find out why she was having trouble getting there in the first place. It is the implications of everyday stereotypes that affect women's roles in negotiations. These stereotypes can be loosely organized into three major categories: opinions of acceptable workplace behavior and femininity, suitable articulation, and societal roles. These assumptions cause a cyclical pattern of diminished expectations of women in the workforce and particularly in negotiations. This paper will provide a background on gender in negotiations, the negotiation style preferred today, and stereotypes. Education, Disability and Armed Conflict
This qualitative study set out to gain insight into how children with disabilities were educated in the conflict setting of Uganda and how it could be improved. It used a critical, constructivist and grounded methodology to generate data. There were four main findings. First, it revealed the nature and extent of the challenges faced by all children living in conflict settings: forced displacement, dehumanisation, rampant poverty and weakened leadership. Second, it discovered that disabled people experienced rejection in their communities and invisibility in the provision of services. Whilst these practices prevailed in non-conflict situations, they were intensified in conflict settings and were counter to the African beliefs on what it meant to be human and live in a community. Third, education in Uganda was likened to disabled people and considered 'crippled' because of demotivated teachers, disengaged parents, ailing infrastructure and decreasing quality. Fourth and last, participants had visions of educational change which involved modifying it and transforming it into an education that develops conscience, reinforces hope and widens opportunities.

Erst durch die Kenntnisse der Erwartungen dieser Generation, kann eine Stelle erfolgreich und langfristig besetzt werden.
