Powering Workplace Proactivity

Joanne,Gray  著
Routledge 出版
2025/04/08 出版

Empowering, customizable, and backed by organizational research, this book introduces the PROACTIVE work design model and diagnostic tool to help organizations create optimal conditions for proactivity at work to flourish. The pressures and expectations of 21st-century life have led to short-term, reactive behavior in the workplace, however, long-term business success relies on proactive behavior, which is self-directed, future-focused, and change-orientated. But proactivity does not occur in a vacuum - it is a complex, social process heavily affected by contextual and situational factors. With its distinct and flexible design model, this book solves the problem of 'how' to create the optimal conditions for proactivity at work to flourish, and to drive sustainability and competitive advantage. And its diagnostic feature recognizes that readers are time-pressured and may already be doing some things well within their organizations, so it offers a solution to their problems without having to read the entire book before they can start making a difference. Uniquely, this book recognizes how important it is for leaders to shape the work environment and to be a positive role model to stimulate employee proactive behavior.Intended as a practical resource, this book provides a range of evidence-based tools and techniques and includes insightful case studies that will be useful for leaders, managers, HR professionals, OD practitioners, and consultants who want to drive proactive behaviors within their organizations.

Cybersecurity Culture

CRC Press 出版
2025/04/08 出版

The culture of cybersecurity is a complex subject. We can look at cybersecurity culture from different perspectives. We can look at it from the organizational point of view or from within the culture. Each organization has a culture. Attitudes toward security have different manifestations in each organizational culture. We also see how the cybersecurity phenomenon unfolds in other cultures is complicated. Each culture reacts differently to this phenomenon. This book will emphasize both aspects of cybersecurity. From the organizational point of view, this book will emphasize the importance of the culture of cybersecurity in organizations, what it is, and how it can be achieved. This includes the human aspects of security, approach and awareness, and how we can design systems that promote the culture of security. It is also important to emphasize the psychological aspects briefly because it is a big part of the human approach. From a cultural point of view, this book will emphasize how different cultures approach the culture of cybersecurity. The cultural complexity of cybersecurity will be noted by giving examples from different cultures. How leadership in different cultures approach security and how different cultures approach change. Case studies from each culture will be presented to demonstrate different approaches to implementing security and training practices. Overall, the textbook will be a good resource for cybersecurity students who want to understand how cultures and organizations within those cultures approach security. It will also provide a good resource for the instructors who would like to develop courses on cybersecurity culture. Finally, this book will be an introductory resource for anyone interested in cybersecurity's organizational or cultural aspect.

Returning Well

de Gruyter 出版
2025/04/08 出版

There are recognised challenges on returning to work after parental leave, ranging from managing guilt and feeling overwhelmed to dealing with missed career opportunities. There are also changes in the way parents return, with increased working from home and more fathers taking parental leave leading to additional demands such as getting up to speed with changes and dealing with stereotypes from others. Despite changes in legislation and an increase in workplace policies, progress in supporting parental returners is still limited. Managers often lack the experience, time or skills to effectively manage those returning from parental leave, whilst parental returners may not recognise how they can best support themselves. This practical, evidence-based guide sees the return to work as a shared responsibility: aimed at professionals who are returning after taking parental leave and managers who are supporting these parental returners. Grounded in psychological research, this book provides examples and practical tools and techniques for new parents to equip themselves for both going on parental leave and returning to the workplace. For managers there is clear guidance and checklists to effectively support these returning parents.

Stoic Empathy

2025/03/26 出版

Correct the power imbalances in your work and life with a science-backed practice that combines the rigor of Stoic philosophy with the relational impact of empathy. Stoicism combined with empathy may sound like a contradiction in terms. But when these seemingly opposing forces are harnessed together, they have the power to change your life. From surviving missile attacks and political oppression in Iran to leading high-stakes legal teams and negotiations in corporate America, Shermin Kruse's journey fuels her mission to merge empathy and stoicism as tools for navigating power, justice, and human connection in every facet of life. In this eye-opening book, she offers you this radical perspective shift--anchored in up-to-the-minute research--to help you navigate life's challenges with power and principles. We often think of empathy as an emotional stance: we feel what someone else is feeling. But Kruse outlines a form of empathy that's based in cognition, not emotion--a way for us to understand what the other person is thinking and feeling while keeping a distance from their feeling state--and shows us how we can strategically maneuver our level of engagement from "emotional empathy" to "cognitive empathy" in different circumstances. Then she utilizes Stoic philosophy and modern science to outline the how of emotional regulation and control. The bridge she builds between Stoicism and empathy gives us the knowledge and discipline we need to: Calmly assess the power dynamics of any situation Understand and manage our own emotions as well as the emotions of othersDefuse danger and turn conflict into connectionSkillfully steer a challenging conversation toward the result we wantWhether you're a leader striving to succeed in your role with integrity, an educator seeking to guide curious minds with compassion, a parent nurturing resilience in your children, or simply facing a personal or professional crossroads, Stoic Empathy is an essential toolkit for negotiating success in every area of your life.
