The Instaglitch Project
This book presents a selection of 52 full color images from Michael Betancourt's "Instaglitch Project" that exploited the aberrant and unheimlich results of image handling and processing by the Instagram photosharing app-it derived novel examples of Glitch Art from the faults inherent to the iPhone system. This project uses these inconsistencies as a mechanism for aesthetic creation that provides evidence for the fantasy of control that the "walled garden" of apps create. The development of the Instaglitch offers a counter to this hegemonic ideology via a studio practice that exploits the Instagram app's very limited 'degrees of freedom' without altering the app itself or employing less restrictive software. These works are examples of how repeated processing and 'filtering' of the same image within the same system-a feedback loop-magnifies the instabilities inherent in its operations. The 2,600 works in this series of static images demonstrates programmatic failures that are masked by its normal use, but are systemic instabilities-their identification allowed me to generate works by manipulating their impacts on a blank (white) image.

John Leslie Breck
John Leslie Breck (1860-1899) was one of the founders of the American art colony at Giverny and was among the earliest American artists to embrace the Impressionist style. He was also one of the first to exhibit his Impressionist paintings in America and helped to popularize the style during his years working in the Boston area in the 1890s. Between 1887 and 1888 he and a handful of his American colleagues began visiting the French village of Giverny, where they met Claude Monet and subsequently explored the new approach to painting that Monet had helped to pioneer. Breck's canvases from this period, loosely brushed and filled with light and color, are a marked departure from his earlier works that are characterized by darker tonalities and tighter brushwork that typified the preferred style of the era. When Breck returned to America in 1892, he applied what he had learned to paintings of the New England landscape and frequently exhibited his work. Inspired by The Mint Museum's 2016 acquisition of John Leslie Breck's canvas Suzanne Hosched矇-Monet Sewing, this volume includes approximately 70 of Breck's finest works, drawn from public and private collections. Along with his scenes of Giverny and America, this volume features a selection of paintings from his sojourn in Venice in 1897. Always interested exploring in new ways of seeing the world, Breck had begun to explore aspects of post-Impressionism and Asian aesthetics in the years before his early death, at the age of 39, in 1899. This volume also features up to 36 additional comparative images, including details, photographs, and paintings by Monet and other leading American impressionists including Willard Metcalf, Theodore Robinson, Lila Cabot Perry, Childe Hassam, and Arthur Wesley Dow, presented throughout the main essays and chronology and appendices.

100 Cups of Compassion
For decades, I have been creating little paintings or doodles of coffee and or teacups. They started out so organically as a way to loosen up my brush strokes when I was painting something complicated like a human being. The doodles evolved into a massive body of work that always left me asking, "What are these things and where are they coming from?" They just kept coming! I kept painting them.Community and compassion. Those two words became the foundation for these cup paintings. In the beginning, I would sit for hours in coffee shops around Florida and paint. If I heard of someone having a bad day I would give them a painting. I would also blog about the experience. As my blog went out into the world, people would contact me, to inquire about acquiring a painting. I always responded, but being compassionate did not always come easy. I, as a human, grappled with taking one of my creations and just handing it over to a complete stranger. I put several hours of my time and energy into these paintings and in some cases, because of pride, I simply didn't want to GIVE them away! What if my creation ended up in a garbage can or worse, a garage sale!? This is when I would hear God speaking to me about the Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5.God was revealing to me that my pride was causing me to not share the gift and talent that he had given me. I believe God breathed life into these paintings and I believe it is his direction leading me to and through the creative process. Each painting was painted with love, pain, sadness, happiness, struggle and frustration. They have found homes all around the world-- from North Africa to Cuba to Mexico and all across this beautiful country. They are meant to brighten someone's day, to uplift and to encourage.Each one of these paintings picked its current owners. At least that is the way it usually happens. I hope you enjoy this little book, read some of God's words, write in it, paint in it, create with it and share it with friends and family.

Interpreting Avalon High and The Kind Who Would Be King, Camelot 3000 and King Arthur vs. Dracula, Fate/Zero, John Steinbeck's The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights, the influence of Arthurian legend on Harry Potter, Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King, John Boorman's Excalibur, Jerry Zucker's First Knight, Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur, Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword, Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service, Iris Murdoch's The Time of the Angels, and the BBC series Merlin, the authors find that while we are still interested in the idea of King Arthur, we may also want his story to be more racially and gender inclusive, less elitist, and in some cases, more secular.

On 23 March 1981, Jordi Pujol, President of the Catalan regional government, gave a speech about an art exhibition, Catalunya Avui. Embracing the artistic wealth of Catalonia, Pujol reminded the audience that when they hear of T?pies, Mir籀, Dal穩, and even Picasso they ought to remember their Catalan heritage. Pujol's inclusion of Antoni T?pies (1923-2012) in this company shows the mark T?pies had already made as a celebrated artist. In a very different Presidential address, as Artur Mas spoke to the press about the 2014 independence referendum, T?pies's enormous painting Les quatre cr簷niques (1990) loomed in the background - an image that took on new meanings under very different sociopolitical circumstances.In this fascinating and thought-provoking investigation, Emily Jenkins explores both T?pies's extraordinary style and his journey through Catalonia's turbulent modern history. Despite his complex relationship with the Spanish state, and having shown bold acts of political protest through his art, T?pies has been f礙ted as one of Spain's most successful modern artists. With support from both local and regional governments, the artist opened a museum dedicated to his work in Barcelona in 1990, helping to establish T?pies as a major visual artist in a resurgent Catalonia.Emily Jenkins studied art history at Rhodes College and history at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. Exploding Cinema 1991 - 1997
The Exploding Cinema is a collective of artists that produce what can be described as a hybrid fusion of projection, performance and social space. It began in South London in late 1991. Architectural spaces, transformed with the use of slides and loop film projections are used as an environmental context for a programme of short films and video. A 'master of ceremonies' sets up a dialogue with the audience and introduces the films. He or she encourages filmmakers who are present to speak or be questioned. The audience are encouraged to make films themselves and invited to show them at future Exploding events with a promise that nothing will be rejected. By thoughtful programming this inclusive process of soliciting material, along with a printed programme and the work of members of the group who provide slides and film loops to decorate the space, results in a varied and lively programme which regularly attracted lively audiences of 100 - 300.Using several research methodologies I try to capture a rich body of information about this open artists collective from different angles. The idea is to record the cultural and political value of this groups actvities. Artists collectives are barely represented in mainstream knowledge, so I saw this work as being of use in the inclusion of future study of such complex groups.My assumption was that open collectives offer a platform to those excluded from the establishments more exclusive cultural platforms. There is often a focus on oral traditions of culture as against literary traditions.

Using colored pencils, photocopies, acrylic paint, and pen and ink, I set out in 2008 to explore the realms of the mystics by following my imagination and intuition. This collection is a small selection of the work involved in doing this exploration. Each piece is a meditation of sorts on the subject of mysticism, whether that's found in the stars, in the leaves and roots of the World Tree, or in a spread of tarot cards. - Jon Christopher
A Collector’s View of Collecting Art
This book was prepared by researching publicly available information, selected references, published books and from information obtained from artists. I have had the pleasure of knowing many of the painters and sculptors personally and over many decades; much of the information presented in this book is from them. The art depicted was all in my collection, although some pieces have been sold, most have been gifted - donated to museums and other institutions - prior to the completion of this book. I thank all of the artists who created the art that has given me utmost pleasure over many years. I have wonderful memories of time spent with the artists who became my friends. Additionally, I thank all those who appreciated my art collection and helped with the downsizing. This painful experience was somehow lessened, as the art is now in good hands, to be enjoyed by many now and in future generations. Foremost, I acknowledge my wife, Jere, who has been a partner in my life; she is the one who has endured all the toils, trials and tribulations of my collecting art, and to share with me our great journey of the "Art of Living with Art."

A繳n hoy nos parece normal que en pleno siglo XXI, el Museo del Prado solo tenga a trece mujeres expuestas en su colecci籀n permanente.Es hora de sacar del olvido a estas pintoras, mujeres artistas con coraje, y este libro lo hace.

Star Wars is finally telling women *cross out* everybody to start enjoying The Thing
As I am editing this, it is strange for me to reread this book; A collection of deeply personal posts that described how important the sequel trilogy was for me, in what was probably the darkest time of my life. The first post is written on 28 January 2018, a little over two weeks after my cat Max died, who had been suffering from explainable an unexplainable ailments since spring 2016. Our relationship had become symbiotic. 2017 Had been an emotional year. My best friend migrated to the United States and I knew it would be the last holiday season my cat Max would be with me. It was also the year The Last Jedi came out, in December 2017. I impulse-attended it, and I was blown away. I fell in love with the dark side warrior Kylo Ren and I went to see it again and again. I brought all my friends, and if they didn't know Star Wars I would give a 30 minute-crash course in the lobby of cinema, so that they went in prepared. In total I saw The Last Jedi 8 times in the theater, in the final weeks around Max's death. After Max died, I ordered a Kylo Ren doll who became my companion. I also bought The Force Awakens on dvd and when The Last Jedi came out on dvd I bought that one too. Just like other fans I, I had my eyes on the horizon, on December 2019 when the last installment of the trilogy would premiere. It would also be the month my love relationship ended. It is around those moments, early 2018 and December 2019, that these diary entries and stories were written. And rereading them, I think it is safe to say having this topic, this interest, and something to hold on to for two years, is what got me through. The morning detective Nick Curran wakes up, played by Michael Douglas, he finds a note on the pillow next to him. It reads in a steady handwriting: the beach C And it is from Catherine Tramell, a mysterious writer played by Sharon Stone, with whom he has spent the night. "The beach" from the note, refers to her villa in Stinson; A 50 minute drive from the San Francisco mansion, where Nick just woke up after what he called "the fuck of the century". Although I have loved the movie Basic Instinct (1992) since its release, it took until 2018, when the first posts of this book are dated, before I saw the resemblance between Catherine and me. Before I saw that I did have Catherine's cool. I shock people, even though I do not actively, as in a verb, shock people. My presence brings an unease that I have spent my entire life, trying to socialize away. The difference between Catherine and me, was that she did not try to smooth it out and poured some fuel on the fire instead. It took me until 2018, before I saw my relationship with my lover mirrored her relationship to Nick Curran. That we shared a love for games, an unavailability to play life at an ordinary level. It took me until 2018, before I started to understand that my fascination for her had always been way more than a love for stylish clothes and a VIP lifestyle. That even in 1992, what I had seen in her? Was me.
