The Dramatic Journey of Eugene O’Neill and Samuel Beckett
The moderns found these two writers to be one of them, and the post moderns said their essence was post-modern. They were found to have deep existential core and humanism was the defining spirit of their works. When a writer writes with deep empathy for the human situation, the work is freed from the traps of ideologies and techniques. It reaches out to people beyond time and space. Truth is complex and individual in manifestation but simple and universal in essence. This simplicity is the most difficult to achieve and most prized achievement of an artist. This simplicity of the communication is what the journey of O'Neill and Beckett has been all about. Their journey is marked by unsparing effort to give a universal metaphor to an immensely subjective experience. The voices of two of the greatest dramatists come together to tell not just what drama has been all about in the 20th Century, but also what it is in our own day. It looks not just into the plots or characters to understand their works but also how they communicated so much more through the way they visualized the technical aspects and theatrical impact of their plays.

The dialogue has all the sparkle of bubbles from a gushing spring, and is brimful of quaint conceits and diverting paradoxesWhat are you waiting for The Importance of Being Earnest is one click away, select the "Buy Now" button in the top right corner NOW!
The 24 Hour Plays Viral Monologues
Since 1995 The 24 Hour Plays have been responding to theatre in the moment. As the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic brought an end to live theatre in the USA and Europe, the company sprang to work to keep the arts alive. Bringing together some of America's most prolific writers for the stage and screen, this unique and contemporary book of monologues collates the responses in dramatic fashion, making for an anthology of work that is timely, moving, irreverent and at its best, transcendent. Featuring original monologues by writers such as David Lindsay-Abaire, Clare Barron, Hansol Jung, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Christoper Oscar Pe簽a, Jesse Eisenberg and Monique Moses this is a rich collection that can be enjoyed by actors, writers and those looking for creative responses to the global COVID-19 crisis. With over 50 monologues from the first three weeks of the project, edited by Howard Sherman, this is an important collection that documents an unprecedented moment in history whilst also offering practical resource for actors and performers.
Miracle
The music is playing "Don't Give Up on Jesus" by Daryl Coley featuring Vanessa Bell Armstrong with the Whitfield Company. A message is written on the screen about the theme of the movie: "How Not to Give Up on Jesus No Matter How Hard the Problems May Be "Just call on the Lord and give him all your burdens by believing with your heart and confessing your sins. That is the Lord of lords and King of kings. Come just the way you are and let him transform you until the person he wants you to be. Just believe he died on the cross and rose to save you because he loves you no matter what you may have been through."
A History of Theater on Cape CodAHistory of Theater on Cape Cod
Theater on the Cape began in 1916 when a group of artists and writers in Provincetown mounted a production of a one-act play, Bound East for Cardiff, by a little-known playwright, Eugene O'Neill. They staged the play in a rickety old theater on a wharf in what was then little more than a sleepy fishing village. From that artists' colony--and others like it across the Cape and Islands--it grew into the constantly expanding theater universe it is today. The theatrical descendants of O'Neill and the Provincetown Players continue to present classical drama, contemporary hits and new, experimental works to audiences that have come to expect the best. In her tour of the theaters from Provincetown to Falmouth, author and entertainment columnist Sue Mellen reveals the rich past behind a unique cultural treasure.

WasteCapitalism and the Dissolution of the Human in Twentieth-Century Theater
If at its most elemental, the theater is an art form of human bodies in space, what becomes of the theater as suicide capitalism pushes our world into a posthuman age? Waste: Capitalism and the Dissolution of the Human in Twentieth-Century Theater traces the twentieth-century theater's movement from dramaturgies of efficiency to dramaturgies of waste, beginning with the observation that the most salient feature of the human is her ability to be ashamed of herself, to experience herself as excess, the waster and the waste of the world. By examining theatrical representations of capitalism, war, climate change, and the permanent refugee crisis, Waste traces the ways in which these human-driven events signal a tendency toward prodigality that terminates with self-destruction. Defying its promise of abundance for all, capitalism poisons all relationships with competition and fear. The desire to dominate in war is revealed to be the desire to obliterate the self in collective conflagration. The refugee crisis raises the urgent question of our responsibility to the other, but the climate crisis renders the question of anthropocentric obligations moot.Waste proposes that the theater is the form best suited to confronting the human's perverse relationship to its finitude. Everything about the theater is suffused with existential shame, with an acute awareness of its provisionality. Unlike the dominant narrative of the human, which is bound up with a fantasy of infinite growth, the theater is not deluded about its nature, origins, and destiny. At its best, the theater gathers artist and audience in one space to die together for a little while, to consciously waste, and not spend, their time.JESSICA RIZZO is an American writer, director, and dramaturge.
Le Naturalisme au th矇璽tre
Olanda
I've been happy since the morning. Delighted, even. Everything seems so splendidly transient to me. That dust, from which thou art and unto which thou shalt return -- it tempts me. And that's why I wander about these roads, these woods, among the nearby houses, from which waft the aromas of fried pork chops, chicken soup, fish, diapers, steamed potatoes for the pigs; I lose my eye-sight, and regain it again. I don't know what life is, Ola, but I'm holding on to it. Thus speaks the narrator of Rafal Wojasiński's novel Olanda. Awarded the prestigious Marek Nowakowski Prize for 2019, Olanda introduces us to a world we glimpse only through the window of our train, as we hurry from one important city to another: a provincial world of dilapidated farmhouses and sagging apartment blocks, overgrown cemeteries and village drunks; a world seemingly abandoned by God -- and yet full of the basic human joy of life itself. Our English translation of Olanda, which includes the radio play Old Man Kalina, brings one of Poland's great contemporary writers of fiction to the wider world for the first time. These narratives may not contain the entire world, just like a village at the end of a dirt road running through ponds, that floods after a heavy rain, does not contain all that may be found in Warsaw. But the world they contain is an intriguing one, in which everyone, from aging beauties through gravedigger philosophers, defrocked seminarians and even the occasional politician, is welcome.Translated from the Polish and introduced by Charles S. KraszewskiThis book has been published with the support of the (c)POLAND Translation ProgramPublishers Maxim Hodak & Max Mendor
Ten Yiddish Plays in TranslationWorks by Sholem Aleichem, Sholem Asch, I.D. Berkowitz, Per
This volume includes works by six Yiddish playwrights: Sholem Aleichem, Sholem Asch, I.D. Berkowitz, Peretz Hirshbein, H. Leivick and David Pinski. These plays were published in the first half of the 20th century, the majority between 1904 and 1923. Preliminary drafts of six of the plays were published by iUniverse in 2007 in a volume entitled Selected Yiddish Plays: Vol.1. This updated volume includes final drafts and/or full text of plays in the 2007 publication, as well as four additional plays. With the exception of Hirshbein's 'A Dream about Time', all plays in this volume were produced in New York City between 2005 and 2015 by New Worlds Theatre Project (Producing Artistic Director, Ellen Perecman). The volume represents an effort to foster an appreciation for the literary legacy of Yiddish culture and the extent to which Yiddish literature, and Yiddish plays in particular, have enriched the international cultural and literary landscape.

Acting
First published in 1933, "Acting: The First Six Lessons" is the classic work on what would later become known as Method acting by Richard Boleslavsky. Born in Russia in 1889, Boleslavsky began his acting career by studying under Konstantin Stanislavski at the Moscow Art Theatre where he learned about the "system". After World War I, Boleslavsky both directed and acted in films in Poland and Germany before settling in New York, where he founded the American Laboratory Theatre in 1923. There he taught Stanislavski's "system" to such students as Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler. Boleslavsky went on to direct many prominent films in Hollywood and wrote "Acting: The First Six Lessons", which introduced a wider audience to the "system". Now known as Method acting, Boleslavsky's approach was based on his years of experience and guides actors in perfecting and understanding their craft. It has become widely practiced the world over and Boleslavsky's work is considered an essential guide for both new and seasoned actors. "Acting: The First Six Lessons" is an engaging and accessible series of lessons and techniques to help all actors excel and grow in their craft. This edition is printed on premium acid-free paper.
