Super Lions on the Path of Honor
After the Rungan warriors decimate the Lord invaders, they must decide what to do next. Knowing the Spears sent them to die, their next move seems obvious: take back Burunga and liberate their fellow Rungans from King Robert's betrayal. As they march back to the palace, they find several weapons storehouses and abandoned towns, all left in haste during the boulder slide. The Rungans lay down their primitive weapons, trading them for the rocket launchers and guns the Spears denied them. Leaving behind reinforcements to train, Colm continues his march to the Royal Palace. Once there, they're greeted with a triumphant welcome from King Robert and his officers. But behind the scenes, they again plot to destroy the Rungans out of fear of retribution. Though many on the council stick up for the warriors and regard them as heroes, their voices are drowned out by King Robert. He plans a ceremony of honor where the Spears will take out the remaining Rungans. Colm is not fooled. He sees through their ceremony, asked to leave all weapons outside, and plots a counter-attack. He and the warriors, now confident and strong from their victory, are ready to fight to save their country and their people. In a final stand, they surround the Royal Palace and use the weapons they collected to destroy those inside. Leaving only a few alive, King Robert is bloody and broken, but questioned and held accountable for his betrayal. His ally in the Palace, Lynzo Mesfin, tells Colm a harrowing secret: his parents are alive. The president has been kept in a Dumpster since King Robert betrayed him. Colm and his family are taken to meet him, but the reunion is tainted by Robert's torture-- the president, Colm's father, believes the return of his children to be a trick to get him to comply. But through persistence, they finally convince him. Weakened by the imprisonment, the president calls Colm before the warriors he led so valiantly in battle. Over the sound of their cheers, Colm is sworn in before them, as the new president of Burunga.

What can artists learn from theatre scholars when it comes to performing historical works on stage today? What can theatre scholars learn from today's artists when it comes to understanding the works and practices of the past? How is the experience of modern spectators affected by attending performances in historic theatres? And how, aesthetically, do we experience the reconstruction of productions from the remote past?This collection of essays covers the findings of the research project 'Performing Premodernity': an international group of theatre whose work centred on the Drottningholm theatre from 1766: just outside Stockholm, this famous theatre has authentic stage sets and machinery preserved almost in their original eighteenth-century state.Behind all the essays is a mixture of fascination and dissatisfaction with today's performances of drama and opera classics, particularly those that take place in historic theatres, and those operating within the so-called Historically Informed Performance movement. Moreover, they reflect a desire to develop and expand the methods traditionally used by theatre historians. And they present a variety of angles on today's performances in historic theatres and on today's attempts to revive theatrical practices of the past.The authors combine academic and artistic research as a way of deepening and nuancing our understanding of eighteenth-century theatre practices. The historical research is set in dialogue with the dramaturgical insights and aesthetic experiences the historians gained from their practical doing in historic spaces. Experimentation with lighting, costumes, stage movement, vocal and instrumental practices, and the flow of energy between performers and spectators led to the investigation of topics that theatre historians otherwise tend to ignore. In turn, this has led the researchers to challenge long-held views of the sites, repertoires, and performance practices of eighteenth-century theatre.Performing Premodernity's experimental, practice-based approach accords with the view of the late Enlightenment as what Vincenzo Ferrone has called 'a real and still unexplored laboratory of modernity'. The second half of the eighteenth century was a time of both wide-ranging artistic innovation and earth-shaking political revolutions; it was a period when ideal and practice, philosophy and art influenced and guided each other to an unprecedented degree. The essays start from the conviction that any attempt at a holistic understanding of the theatrical practices of the time must take these exchanges into account. And that a strictly antiquarian approach that merely tries to establish 'how it really was', without considering the utopian dimension of the reforms of people like Rousseau, Gluck, and Mozart, will fail to grasp the impetus and the dynamic, communicative aspect of eighteenth-century theatre. Therefore, several of the essays revolve around the group's historically informed production of a true 'avantgarde' work of the eighteenth century: Pygmalion, Jean-Jacques Rousseau's sc癡ne lyrique from 1762. Performing Premodernity's research-based production premiered at Česk羸 Krumlov Castle Theatre in 2015.The present anthology is essential reading for theatre scholars and musicologists studying eighteenth-century performance as well as for theatre and opera artists concerned with period performance practice.

The entries reveal the rich diversity in radio programming created by black talent and intended for black audiences during a time that has often been portrayed as nearly devoid of a black presence. Time in Romantic Theatre
The shift in temporal modalities of Romantic Theatre was the consequence of internal as well as external developments: internally, the playwright was liberated from the old imperative of "Unity of Time" and the expectation that the events of the play must not exceed the hours of a single day; externally, the new social and cultural conformance to the time-keeping schedules of labour and business that had become more urgent with the industrial revolution. In reviewing the theatre of the Romantic era, this monograph draws attention to the ways in which theatre reflected the pervasive impact of increased temporal urgency in social and cultural behaviour. The contribution this book makes to the study of drama in the early nineteenth century is a renewed emphasis on time as a prominent element in Romantic dramaturgy, and a reappraisal of the extensive experimentation on how time functioned.

Speculative Satire in Contemporary Literature and Film
Since 1980, when neoliberal and neoconservative forces began their hostile takeover of western culture, a new type of political satire has emerged that works to unmask and deter those toxic doctrines. Literary and cultural critic Kirk Combe calls this new form of satire the Rant. The Rant is grim, highly imaginative, and complex in its blending of genres. It mixes facets of satire, science fiction, and monster tale to produce widely consumed spectacles--major studio movies, popular television/streaming series, bestselling novels--designed to disturb and to provoke. The Rant targets what Combe calls the Regime. Simply put, the Regime is the sum of the dangerous social, economic, and political orthodoxies spurred on by neoliberal and neoconservative polity. Such practices include free-market capitalism, corporatism, militarism, religiosity, imperialism, racism, patriarchy, and so on.
