On June 19, 2020, Bob Dylan's album Rough and Rowdy Ways was released, the first with songs newly written by the master in eight years! It was preceded by three songs on the Internet that caused a stir, especially the first, the seventeen-minute masterpiece "Murder Most Foul." The critical reception was excellent, and the public welcomed this album. But what motivated Bob Dylan to make one more album, he who had already made thirty-eight in his sixty-year career, not counting the multiple compilations? And what could it bring? Why did Bob Dylan find it necessary to release an album of unpublished compositions in the year 2020? Did he want to say something in particular, or was it just to amuse himself and make fun of people who claimed he could not compose anything more after receiving the Nobel Prize for Literature? The author does not claim to provide all the answers to the questions that listeners may ask about these ten songs and what followed, but to offer avenues for understanding their production and their meaning. This album was followed in 2021 by a live streaming show, Shadow Kingdom, and a tour in the United States and in Europe, with a setlist including almost all the songs from Rough and Rowdy Ways. After touring, Dylan published a new book, The Philosophy of Modern Song. Guarini’s ’il Pastor Fido’ and the Madrigal
Battista Guarini's pastoral tragicomedy Il pastor fido (1589) began its life as a play, but soon was transformed through numerous musical settings by prominent composers of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. Through the many lives of this work, this book explores what happens when a lover's lament is transplanted from the theatrical stage to the courtly chamber, from speech to song, and from a single speaking character to an ensemble of singers, shedding new light on early modern literary and musical culture.From the play's beginnings in manuscripts, private readings, and aborted stage productions in the 1580s and 1590s, through the gradual decline of Pastor fido madrigals in the 1640s, this book examines how this widely read yet controversial text became the center of a lasting and prolific music tradition. Using a new integrative system of musical-textual analysis based on sixteenth-century theory, Seth Coluzzi demonstrates how composers responded not only to the sentiments, imagery, and form of the play's speeches, but also to subtler details of Guarini's verse. Viewing the musical history of Guarini's work as an integral part of the play's roles in the domains of theater, literature, and criticism, this book brings a new perspective to the late Italian madrigal, the play, and early modern patronage and readership across a diverse geographical and temporal frame.

Then in about 1820, he moved to Paris where he was very active as a teacher and composer, until his death there in 1847. The spiritual and creative personality of Jalal al-Din Balkhi in Valad Nama
In this monograph for the first time in the national and foreign literature and in the world of Iranian studies the spiritual and creative personality of Jalaladdin Balkhi is studied on the basis of his native son Sulton Valad, reflected in the Masnavi "Valad-name" through a comprehensive and consistent literary research and analysis. The topic under consideration is researched on the basis of new achievements of the theory of analysis of spiritual and creative worlds of fiction writers, which were published in scientific-theoretical publications of literary circles of Tajikistan, Turkey, Iran, Russia, and other Western countries. In the monograph the hagiography (mankaba) of Jalaladdin Balkhi and his companions is placed in correlation with the spiritual connection between them, and the issues related to the reflection of Mawlawiyya tariqat and Sufism (irfon and tasavvuf) essence are analyzed. Issues related to the comprehension of the word of Mawlano Jalaliddin Rumi and the explanation of some symbols of irfon are considered in detail and thematically, which is a first experience in Tajik literary criticism.
