Trophy Husband
More than 20 million Americans now work out of home offices, and Steve Brewer is one of them. A novelist, columnist, and the father of two sons, Brewer has turned his Albuquerque Tribune column on house husbandry into a book that reveals the reason working at home has become so popular: telecommuting gives Baby Boomers a way to wear sweatpants all day.The impossible mixture of fax machines and jelly sandwiches, meeting deadlines and getting kids to soccer games that is the world of the housewife or househusband has never been funnier than when Brewer tackles it. And unlike his literary ancestors Erma Bombeck and Dave Barry, Brewer is gender neutral. Sweatpants are for everybody. He understands that anyone working at home, anyone living in the kingdom of Greater Sweatpantsia, is struggling with the mystery of adulthood. "Working at home is all about freedom," he explains. "We want to create our own work environments, set our own hours, produce at our own pace. We want Oprah breaks. We want to bake brownies during business hours and have them all eaten before the kids get home from school."This book will confirm your suspicion that you can yak on the phone, slurp French Roast, and swap e-mail jokes at home as well as at an office. It is ideal for readers who have baskets of laundry next to their desks and for people who would like to. It's for everyone who longs to work in sweatpants, regardless of whether they still own clothing labeled "Dry Clean Only."

Is Sex Necessary?
A sparkling literary spoof first published in 1929, Is Sex Necessary? is a sly, subversive response to the surge of earnest psychoanalytic sex manuals that flooded the American market in the Jazz Age. With mock-scholarly flair and deadpan absurdity, James Thurber and E. B. White dismantle the anxieties, theories, and taboos of modern romance-one ridiculous diagram at a time. This comedic collaboration marked the literary debut of both men, launching Thurber's career as America's master of neurotic whimsy and showcasing White's quiet genius for prose. Accompanied by Thurber's charmingly awkward line drawings, the book is a pitch-perfect send-up of both high-minded intellectualism and the fraught terrain of love and sex.Wickedly smart and delightfully inappropriate, Is Sex Necessary? remains one of the great comic gems of American letters-an irreverent tonic for the overly serious and an affectionate jab at our deepest, silliest questions.

Midas Living with a Bird in the Hood
Midas is an African gray parrot that was rescued in 2007. After posting some of our conversations on social media, many friends fell in love with the "cantankerous" old bird whose ability to be part of the conversation. He may be the cause of frustration one day but smiling about it the next because we live in the hood; we don't know what he is going to request or, should I say, demand at any given time. He has stopped us from arguing and made us laugh, left us wondering where he heard that from (as if we didn't know) and kept us in constant awe at his many phrases. There will only be one time when we cry because of Midas, which also means that the house will be very quiet. I hope that time doesn't happen for a very long time.
