Mistletoe Therapy for Cancer
Mistletoe is a parasitic evergreen plant that lives on trees such apple and elm. Modern complementary therapies for cancer increasingly make use of mistletoe preparations. However, because mistletoe grows on many different trees, the properties of the plant vary according to the host tree. For the first time, this book presents an important reference for practitioners on the characteristics of each type of mistletoe, and what kind of cancers they are best suited to treat. Thirteen host trees are described, covering all aspects from mythology and botany to homeopathy and flower essences. The author then pulls the various characteristics together to provide a unique guide to which patients might benefit most from the different types of mistletoe. The results will be useful not only in treating cancer but also in prevention. The book includes specific case-studies as well as notes on supplementary therapies using metals.

For the last fifteen years, John Zeisel, Ph.D. has spearheaded a movement to treat Alzheimer's non-pharmacologically by focusing on the mind's strengths. I'm Still Here is a guidebook to Dr. Zeisel's treatment ideas, showing the possibility and benefits of connecting with an Alzheimer's patient through their abilities that don't diminish with time, such as understanding music, art, facial expressions, and touch. By harnessing these capacities, and by using other strategies, it's possible to offer the person a quality life with connection to others and to the world. In March 2013, Dr. Zeisel and his work will be the focus of the program airing on public television stations entitled "Hopeful Aging," bringing his life-changing ideas to a national audience.
Calming the Chaos
My primary goal is to help all children and adults with this disorder and to provide them with the opportunity to learn how to become motivated, successful learners, to receive social acceptance, and to live drug-free. My secondary goal is to help parents of children with ADHD and adults with ADHD realize that the guilt or shame felt, due to the resulting problems, need not be a continual burden. Many of my clients have indicated that they were made to feel responsible for their child's anti-social and inappropriate behaviour and that their approach to parenting was the cause. For the over 1000 families with whom I've worked, this couldn't be further from the truth. Every one of the parents indicated they had tried every conceivable approach recommended: parenting classes, psychotherapy, marriage counseling, medication, behaviour modification techniques, etc. with limited success. With this group of families, the majority had tried, or were still using, medication as a means of controlling the symptoms. None were content to use medication as a long-term approach and hence their interest in a drug-free alternative... Please remember that a journey takes time and it is completed one step at a time. If you are a parent struggling with the problems caused by having a child with ADHD, this approach may provide answers to resolving those problems. If you help to eliminate the underlying causes of ADHD, you will enable your child to be what he/she was meant to be. By completing the questionnaire and linking revealed information resulting from ADHD symptoms, you will identify problematic areas. Upon completion of her doctorate, which identified characteristics commonly found in students with ADHD, Dr. Sandra Starr designed a program to teach the role nutritional deficiencies play in this disorder. A generic program has been found to work for most, and has been successfully implemented for the past fifteen years with thousands of families. Clients have provided personal progress reports revealing evidence of physical, behavioural, and cognitive improvements which identified the link between symptoms and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The vitamin regimen outlined has been shown to build strength in the immune system, and over time will eliminate the symptoms that gave rise to the ADHD label. Dr. Starr has been engaged in pro bono work for the past four years and as a result of this work, clients have encouraged her to publish her research.

How Not to Die
WHEN THIS DOCTOR TALKS, YOU SHOULD LISTEN. Thousands of people make an early exit each year and arrive on medical examiner Jan Garavaglia's table. What is particularly sad about this is that many of these deaths could easily have been prevented. Although Dr. Garavaglia, or Dr. G, as she's known to many, could not tell these individuals how to avoid their fates, we can benefit from her experience and profound insight into the choices we make each day. In How Not to Die, Dr. G acts as a medical detective to identify the often-unintentional ways we harm our bodies, then shows us how to use that information to live better and smarter. She provides startling tips on how to make wise choices so that we don't have to see her, or someone like her, for a good, long time. - In "Highway to the Morgue," we learn the one commonsense safety tip that can prevent deadly accidents--and the reason you should never drive with the windows half open- "Code Blue" teaches us how to increase our chances of leaving the hospital alive--and how to insist that everyone caring for you practice the easiest hygiene method around- "Everyday Dangers" informs us why neat freaks live longer--and the best ways to stay safe in a car during a lightning storm Using anecdotes from her cases and a liberal dose of humor, Dr. G gives us her prescription for living a healthier, better, longer life--and unlike many doctors' orders, this one is surprisingly easy to follow.

Faith, Hope and Healing
In his monumental bestseller, Love, Medicine, and Miracles, Dr. Bernie Siegel broke new ground by revealing the powerful role the mind can play in fighting illness. His dramatic stories of seriously ill patients whose sheer will, determination, and love helped them survive against the odds inspired countless readers to consider the possibility of participating in their own healing. This new companion volume to Dr. Siegel's timeless classic takes the journey further. Faith, Hope, and Healing presents the remarkable stories of what happened to patients who followed Dr. Siegel's advice. You'll meet courageous women and men who have not only been cured of cancer, but have also found deeper faith, hope, joy, and healing by coming to terms with their own mortality.Grouped into sections on faith, hope, and healing, these first-person accounts and Siegel's insightful commentaries encourage and help you to develop a survivor's attitude and personality traits. They also offer proven strategies for getting through difficult times and discovering the gifts-true gifts--that illness can bring into your life. Among the survivors who tell their stories here, you'll find a woman who discovered on the same day that she had lost her battle for the custody of her three sons and that her breast cancer had returned. In the midst of utter catastrophe and defeat, with no hope in sight, she discovered a love of life she had never known before. You'll also meet the woman who asked, "Why me?" when she was diagnosed with cancer, and was surprised when a little voice inside her answered, "Why not?" And, a successful veterinarian reveals how his throat cancer taught him things about pets that he had never learned in school. All of the stories in this deeply supportive collection help you discover what Dr. Siegel calls the "side effects" of cancer: the wake-up call that urges you to begin your life anew, a heightened understanding of what really matters to you and what doesn't, and the courage to take control of your own healing process as you work with caregivers to cure your illness. For more than twenty years, Dr. Siegel has been educating cancer patients on the importance of the spiritual life in facing and recovering from cancer. In Faith, Hope, and Healing, he helps you learn from the experiences of others how to recognize the disease as a wake-up call that leads you to seek nourishment for yourself and your life, start building a more authentic and fulfi lling today, and keep it going for many years to come.

Everything Changes
"By page three of the introduction to Everything Changes, I wanted not only to devour the rest of the book, but I wanted to call Kairol up, get to know her, and (if we weren't both already married) see if I could sleep with her. Then the book got really good. It is, without doubt, the most forthright, emotionally sophisticated, and plain-old valuable book of its kind I've seen. The book defines and exemplifies what the verb 'fight' really means: to arm, prepare, and engage in sustained effort to gain a desired end. If that's your mission, this is your instruction manual."-Evan Handler, actor and author of Time On Fire and It's Only Temporary: The Good News and the Bad News of Being Alive (and a guy who got well from acute myeloid leukemia in 1985)On a shoestring budget and with tape recorder in hand, Kairol Rosenthal emerged from treatment and hit the road in search of other twenty- and thirty-something cancer survivors. From the Big Apple to the Bible Belt, she dusted the sugarcoating off of the young adult cancer experience, exposing the gritty and compelling stories of twenty-five complete strangers. The men and women in Everything Changes confess their most vulnerable moments, revealing cancer experiences they never told anyone else--everything from what they thought about at night before going to bed to what they wish they could tell their lovers but were too afraid to.With irreverent flare and practical wisdom, Everything Changes includes stories, how-to resources, and expert advice on issues that are important for young adult cancer patients, including: Dating and sexMedical insurance and the healthcare systemFaith and spiritualityEmployment and careerFertility and adoptionFriends and family

Diabetes
Diabetes is an incredibly misunderstood affliction - by many diabetics themselves, and even by most people in the medical profession, unless they have been specifically trained. There's far more to consider than just avoiding sugar in your diet. This is an incurable ailment, but much can be done to alleviate and sometimes even avoid most of its effects. The author comes from a diabetic family background and has been a diet-controlled diabetic herself for many years. This book covers her personal experience with and research into the subject - covering mainly type 2 diabetes, but with much valuable insight into type 1 and the more recently discovered type 1.5! Sasha has written a wide range of Mind, Body & Spirit books and lectured all over the world, but this may be her most vitally useful book yet. In the UK, about 26,000 people die from diabetic-related ailments or complications each year, and the incidence of diabetes is on the increase, especially in line with increasing obesity in younger people. It's never too soon to start changing and improving one's life as a diabetic, as even "mild" diabetes won't stay long that way if ignored.

Cheating Destiny
A candid, provocative, and moving account of one of America's fastest-growing health issues If you or someone you love has diabetes, you are not alone -- more than twenty million Americans now live with the disease. In Cheating Destiny, the best-selling author James S. Hirsch offers an incisive, sometimes surprising portrait of diabetes in America. Hirsch is intimately familiar with the disease: he has lived with type 1 diabetes for three decades. His brother, Irl, also a diabetic, is one of the country's leading diabetologists. Most poignantly, his son Garrett was diagnosed at age three. Hirsch draws on his unique expertise to provide an engaging blend of reportage, memoir, history, and advocacy. He offers revealing views of life with diabetes: the urge toward secrecy that many diabetics feel, the everyday psychological and emotional hurdles, and the perseverance -- even heroism -- required for survival. Hirsch takes a look at the science behind the disease and its treatment, and lays bare the impact on our economy, society, and our families. Anyone who lives with diabetes -- or loves a diabetic -- will find this book essential reading.
