Evaluation of the Quality of Infant Formulas Offered to Neonates
Nowadays, the use of food supplements is becoming increasingly present due to changes in eating habits. Thus, the inclusion of food supplements in the diet of children, especially newborns, has become increasingly necessary. Considering the fragility of the target population, it is important to conduct studies to evaluate the possible microbiological and toxicological hazards to which consumers are exposed. Therefore, samples of infant formulas offered to newborns in hospital units were analyzed. To attest to the quality of the products, microbiological and toxicological analyses were then performed. The count values obtained in this study are a reflection of product processing, choice of raw material, and handling during reconstitution. Although the samples analyzed were in compliance with the legislation, we emphasize the need for revision to include new contaminants potentially dangerous to the target audience.

An Ethical Critique of Fur Factory Farming
The fur trade is a multi-million-dollar industry. It is estimated that over 100 million animals are killed in fur farms worldwide annually. This book provides an in-depth analysis of the state of fur factory farming worldwide, and an ethical critique of the main arguments propounded by the fur industry. Consideration is also given to an attempt to justify fur farming through the concept of "Welfur." Andrew Linzey and Clair Linzey argue that from any ethical perspective, fur factory farming fails basic moral tests.
Application of Nanotechnology in Veterinary Medicine
Literature Review from the year 2022 in the subject Veterinary medicine, course: Nanotechnology, language: English, abstract: The objective of this seminar paper is to review the application of nanotechnology on smart drug delivery system, in animal disease treatment and diagnosis, animal breeding and reproduction and also chicken product. Nanotechnology is an exciting and rapidly emerging technology allowing us to work at the molecular level, often atom by atom, to create and manipulate tools, materials and functional structures that have nanometer dimensions. It has the potential to have greats impact on diagnosis and treatment of animals. Unique size dependent properties of nanoparticles have numerous diagnostic applications such as diagnostic biosensors, imaging nanoprobes for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents. Using nanotechnology multifunctional nanomaterial's can be designed to image a specific organ, target tissue, access deep molecular targets and provide drugs at controlled release. Great advances have been and are being made in nanobiochip materials, nanoscale biomimetic materials, nanomotors, nanocomposite materials, interface biomaterials and nanobiosensors with enormous prospect in veterinary medicine application. It is a research and development aimed at understanding and working with seeing, measuring and manipulating at the atomic, molecular and supramolecular levels. This correlates to length scales of roughly 1 to 100 nanometers. At this scale, the physical, chemical and biological properties of materials differ fundamentally and often unexpectedly integrated sensing, monitoring and controlling system could detect the presence of disease and notify the farmer and veterinarian to activate a targeted treatment delivery system. This is possible with nanotechnology and could permit a wide range of advances in the field of agriculture, animal and veterinary sciences such as conversion of agricultural and food wastes to energy and other us

Beyond the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation
The North American Wildlife Conservation Model (NAM) is the driver of a strong anthropocentric stance, which has legalized an ongoing, annual exploitation of hundreds of millions of wild animals, who are killed in the United States through trapping, hunting and other lethal practices. Increasingly, the American public opposes the killing of wild animals for recreation, trophies and profit but has little--if any--knowledge of the Model. The purpose of this book is to empower the public with knowledge about the NAM's insufficiencies and to help expedite the shift from lethal to compassionate conservation, an endeavour urgently needed particularly under the threats of climate change, human population growth and accelerating plant and animal species extinctions. With a focus on trapping, this book exposes the NAM's belief in human supremacy and its consequences for wild animals and their ecosystems, the same value that is driving the ongoing global destruction of nature and accelerating species extinction. Motivated by a deep concern for wild animals who suffer and whose lives are extinguished each year by 'sportsmen and women', this book exposes the violent treatment of wild animals inherent in governmental-promoted hunting and trapping programs, while emphasizing the importance of empathy and compassion for other animals in conservation and in our lives.

Environmental Hygiene Monitoring and Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Disinfection
The role of contaminated environmental surfaces in the transmission of different pathogens is supported by the fact that cleaning and disinfection can decrease the incidence of microbial colonisation or spreading of infection. Sanitation includes effective use of tools and activities aimed at inactivating, eliminating or killing pathogens in the environment, which lead to increase of the hygiene and disease prevention. Foodborne diseases which can occur during manipulation due to presence of microorganisms on contaminated surfaces are of major public health concern. Due to this fact, cleaning and disinfection of surfaces in food processing plant are necessary for the production of safe and healthy food. The scientific book publication contains a first set of studies that reflect the importance of mechanical cleaning and disinfection that affect the environmental quality and must, therefore, be taken into account when considering the importance of environmental microbiology as a tool in the improvement of the quality of life of animals located in this environment, and as a tool which prevent illness. The second part of studies stress the importance of disinfection as very important preventive measure of foodborne diseases, because suitable sanitary environmental conditions in food processing plants could decrease the level of the microbial contamination. The acquired knowledge indicates the need for regular performing of mechanical cleaning and disinfection; using of suitable disinfectants and cleaning agents which should be adapted to the material of surface, presence of organic material, temperature of the environment; presence of animals and to other factors.

Kantianism for Animals
This open access book revises Kant's ethical thought in one of its most notorious respects: its exclusion of animals from moral consideration. The book gives readers in animal ethics an accessible introduction to Kant's views on our duties to others, and his view that we have only 'indirect' duties regarding animals. It then investigates how one would have to depart from Kant in order to recognise that animals matter morally for their own sake. Particular attention is paid to Kant's 'Formula of Humanity, ' the role of autonomy and the moral law, as well as Kant's notions of practical reason and animal instinct. The result is a deliberately amended version of Kantianism which nevertheless remains faithful to central aspects of Kant's thought. The book's final part illustrates the framework's use in applied contexts, addressing the issues of using animals as mere means, the ethics of veganism and vegetarianism, and environmental protection. Nico Dario M羹ller shows how, when furnished with duties to animals, Kant's moral philosophy can be a powerful resource for animal ethicists.

Made to Order
Animal breeding has been complicated by persisting factors across species, cultures, geography, and time. In Made to Order, Margaret E. Derry explains these factors and other breeding concerns in relation to both animals and society in North America and Europe over the past three centuries. Made to Order addresses how breeding methodology evolved, what characterized the aims of breeding, and the way structures were put in place to regulate the occupation. Illustrated by case studies on important farm animals and companion species, the book presents a synthetic overview of livestock breeding as a whole. It gives considerable emphasis to genetics and animal breeding in the post-1960 period, the relationship between environmental and improvement breeding, and regulation of breeding as seen through pedigrees. In doing so, Made to Order shows how studying the ancient human practice of animal breeding can illuminate the ways in which human thinking, theorizing, and evolving characterize our interactions with all-natural processes.
