Depressive symptoms in hospitalised elderly people
Depression is the most prevalent mental disorder in many countries around the world and is associated with functional impairment and high morbidity and mortality rates. Depression and depressive disorders are common in the population as a whole and especially among the elderly. In the elderly population, depression is among the most frequent chronic illnesses that increase the possibility of developing functional disability, affect quality of life, increase financial costs, overburden health services and can lead to the most serious outcome of the illness, suicide. On the other hand, the presence of comorbidities and the use of polypharmacy, common among the elderly, make the diagnosis and treatment of depression even more complex. In this way, it can be seen that early detection of depressive symptoms in the elderly in a hospital setting is important, because the presence of these symptoms can be responsible for loss of autonomy and worsening of pre-existing pathological conditions, as well as the risk of suicide.
Analysis of the burden and quality of life of elderly carers
The aim of this study was to assess the burden and quality of life of carers of dependent elderly people in an area covered by the Family Health Strategy of a major city in the macro-region of Minas Gerais. This was a cross-sectional observational study carried out by applying an instrument to a statistically significant simple random sample. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 21.0 with a 5% level of evidence, with continuous variables analysed using the Student's t-test and dichotomous variables using the chi-squared test. It was found that only 5.7% of the elderly have carers, of the elderly in that region have carers, and 100% of carers are female with an average age of 54.41 years, ranging from 34 to 81 years. Of the carers (35.3%), 23.53% were formal carers aged over 60. The average burden measured by the Zarit questionnaire was 33 (SD=15.81), ranging from 4 to 62(0-88). The SF-36 scale showed an average of 58.04 (SD=22.92), ranging from 21.2 to 95.1. The SF-36 values are measured in eight domains: functional capacity, physical limitations, pain, general state of health, vitality and social aspects.

If affirms and invites a maturing of the nursing profession and its developing consciousness of human-universe as the substance of Unitary Caring Science, along with its basis in the evolving cosmology of love. Within this conceptual framework the book examines metaphysics and the non-physical, invisible, spirit realm of human experiences, health, and healing, creating a new space to explore the relationship between science and spirit phenomena generally eschewed in Western thought. Addressing such topics as the meaning of metaphysics and why now is an ideal moment to pursue a unity of nursing and metaphysics, the book describes the personal, metaphysical and mystical experiences of the author and other contributors as a catalyst for readers to awaken and examine their own such experiences. Guidance, prevention and nursing care in Syphilis
Syphilis is a systemic disease exclusive to humans, caused by Treponema pallidum, a sexually and vertically transmitted spirochete bacterium that can occur at any stage of pregnancy. It has been known since the 15th century and its studies have covered all medical specialties. The main route of transmission of syphilis is sexual contact, followed by vertical contact with the fetus during the pregnancy of a mother with the disease who has not undergone treatment or has done so inadequately. The presentation of signs and symptoms is variable and complex. When left untreated, it progresses to more serious forms which can affect the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system and gastrointestinal tract. In this paper, we analyze the incidence of congenital syphilis in three municipalities in western S瓊o Paulo over the last six years and, through a literature review, we reinforce the role of nursing in guidance, intervention and prevention of syphilis.

Drug therapy for dependent elderly people
Demographic ageing is a phenomenon that has been observed all over the world. Although advanced age is not considered a disease, it contributes substantially to health care consumption and costs, and medication accounts for a considerable part of this amount. Elderly people are polymedicated, sometimes having more than one prescriber, and there is no proper monitoring of the management of the therapeutic drug regimen. The polymedication of the elderly is, in fact, a problem that justifies research into adherence to the therapeutic regimen and has motivated growing interest, given the significant repercussions that non-compliance with treatment has on health. The purpose of the research presented in this book was to study the management of and adherence to the therapeutic drug regime of elderly people integrated into integrated home-based long-term care teams in the Algarve region, as well as the factors that condition them.

The model tested by ULB-Cooperation could be proposed to other health facilities, hence the need to gather feedback from project beneficiaries. The study was descriptive and analytical, and led to the following results: - Health care providers are not satisfied with the support provided by their partner, as evidenced by their dissatisfaction with the planning and organization of on-the-job training, and difficulties in prescribing drugs due to frequent stock-outs.- On the other hand, users of the health center's services are more satisfied with the reception, hygiene, quality of care and affordability of treatment than they were during the periods without ULB-Coop矇ration support.

Prevention and Treatment of Mucositis in Oncology Outpatient Clinics
With the ageing of the population, improvements in health promotion and the intense process of urbanization, infectious diseases have been replaced by diseases such as malignant neoplasms. As a treatment for malignant neoplasms, antineoplastic chemotherapy is still a widely used form of treatment, generally causing a range of unpleasant side effects, such as oral mucositis. The content of this book deals with the production of a protocol for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis with the aim of contributing to a higher quality of care, reducing the institution's costs, and standardizing the actions of the multi-professional team during the period of treatment of the cancer client undergoing antineoplastic chemotherapy.
Quilombola women
Given the cultural, socio-economic and geographical peculiarities of the quilombola community of Pixaim (Pia癟abu癟u - AL), the Theory of Transcultural Care and Ethno-nursing emerged as the most appropriate theoretical/methodological framework to meet the objective of analyzing the diversities of the conceptions of health/disease held by the women of this community. Through the researcher's five-month stay in the community, it was possible to identify how distant professional care is from cultural aspects, leaving preventive care and treatment of illnesses to the responsibility of popular knowledge passed down from generation to generation. Nurses must understand that social inequalities/iniquities affect access to health services, which is why these women take responsibility and become protagonists in perpetuating popular care for their health, that of their family and the group they belong to.
The path of Francis with sister illness
Francis of Assisi at a young age met the disease, and more or less serious, the disease was a dramatic event for both him and his family. In fact, illness transforms the existence of the individual by modifying family and social relationships, upsets the identity and enters a state of crisis, certainly with the outside world, but above all with one's own body.I would like in this second part of the book, through the experience of Francesco's illness, to try to look at the disease with a new perspective, which is not established by chance, but must be seen as a defense mechanism, and an attempt by the body to overcome conditions that he does not feel suitable, so that he can defend himself, and then live in good health.
Promoting Therapeutic Adherence in People with Mental Illness
The aim of this book is to present the experience and work carried out during a Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing internship, as part of the acquisition of competences as a Specialist Mental Health and Psychiatric Nurse. To summarise, the work project is based on Betty Neuman's nursing model, and aims to develop a theoretical-practical work of empirical research and nursing intervention in the field of therapeutic adherence in people with mental illness, in Psychiatric Emergency and Psychosocial Rehabilitation contexts. The research is based on an extensive-quantitative strategy aimed at producing knowledge about the multidimensional systemic factors that underlie therapeutic adherence in people with mental illness. The central information-gathering technique was a questionnaire survey. The findings reveal that the presence of more severe psychotic episodes, with delusional activity and low insight, combined with weakened social ties, negatively influence therapeutic adherence.
User satisfaction on dignified treatment by nursing staff
Purpose and Method of the Study: The purpose of the study was to determine the satisfaction with dignified treatment by nursing staff at a health institution in Matamoros, Tamaulipas. The study was a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The sampling was non-probabilistic by convenience. The sample consisted of 147 hospitalised users. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse sociodemographic data and study variables. Contribution and Conclusions: The study determined satisfaction with dignified treatment by nursing staff. The average age ranged from 15 to 25 years (30.0 %), with a female predominance (61.2 %). According to the INDICATIONS format, which establishes that the minimum compliance for the criteria in the dignified treatment indicator is 95% (SS, 2012), 81.6% of users showed satisfaction with dignified treatment by nursing staff, with the criteria "the nurse treats him/her with respect" standing out. However, the criteria closest to green were "the nurse does not show up with him", and does not teach him or his relative about the care he should take with respect to his condition".

Impact of the Care Relationship on Anxiety in Ambulatory Surgery
Care is subdivided into technical care and relational care. My observation is that technical care predominates over the other types of care. The favourable impact of a balanced care relationship on the anxiety of a pre-operative patient in ambulatory surgery has shown me that relational care is just as important and omnipresent. This relational care must be a priority in the mind of every carer, especially when the patient is anxious and in a waiting situation. The success of the therapeutic alliance between carer and patient depends on the quality of the relationship between the two partners, the patient and the carer.
Producing Care for Men in the Family Health Strategy
This book is inspired by the gloomy scenario in which the reality of men's health care in the context of Primary Health Care pervaded, ranging from the invisibility of men within these health services, through the macho ideology that surrounds the social context, to the neglect of men themselves in health care. With the implementation of the National Policy for Comprehensive Attention to Men's Health, hope for a change in this reality has risen, and thus the need to investigate the impact of this policy on the daily practice of health professionals and on meeting the health needs of the male population. To this end, there is nothing better than following the real-life experience of a user in search of his right and the fulfilment of his health needs.

Quality of perioperative care in a public hospital
Patient satisfaction with perioperative care can contribute to assessing the quality of health services by identifying gaps and subsidising health planning and public policies. The general objective of this study was to assess the quality of perioperative care from the patients' perspective in a hospital belonging to the Unified Health System (SUS). The specific objectives were to analyse the sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic profile of patients undergoing surgical treatment in a public hospital; to analyse patient expectations and perceptions of perioperative care in this hospital; and to analyse the gaps between patient perceptions and expectations of the quality of perioperative care in this hospital.
Nursing care for diabetic patients
Diabetes Mellitus is a heterogeneous group of metabolic disorders that have hyperglycaemia in common, type I and type II, the latter being the most frequent form of the disease, affecting 90% of all cases of Diabetes Mellitus. Men, in general, suffer more from severe and chronic illnesses when compared to women, so measures focused on health education have been implemented to raise awareness of changes in risk behaviour and the importance of self-care, in order to increase the life expectancy of this population. The participation of health professionals in caring for diabetic patients is essential. Nursing can articulate intervention actions by identifying the reality in which patients are inserted, using the Systematisation of Nursing Care as a facilitating element in care planning.
The work of nurses
The organisation of the nursing work process continues to be a constant challenge for hospital institutions, as the different tasks and responsibilities taken on by nurses in this context are immense. This book is an attempt to address this multiplicity of actions and activities carried out by nurses, as well as the instruments used in the work process. It also considers that all the actions carried out in the hospital environment are interdependent and that the workers involved have relative autonomy during the execution of their actions.
Extra-Pulmonary Tuberculosis
Although tuberculosis is most common in the lungs, it also affects other organs, and is known as extrapulmonary tuberculosis. A descriptive, exploratory study with a quantitative approach was carried out with the aim of analyzing all the cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis treated at a hospital in the city of S瓊o Lu穩s-MA. The results show that 53.7% of the patients studied were male. The most frequent clinical forms were pleural (59.26%) and ganglionic (25.93%). The main auxiliary tests for diagnosing tuberculosis seen in the medical records were: sputum smear microscopy (48.15%), sputum culture (16.67%), PPD (40.74%), X-ray (68.52%). With regard to the most commonly used treatment regimen, regimen I predominated (94.44%). It can be concluded that extrapulmonary tuberculosis can be a serious form of infection which can lead to death if not treated and diagnosed in time. It is therefore necessary for health professionals to be prepared to provide the basic conditions for successful treatment, through informative and educational activities.

Politics and Healthcare
This book explores politics and the role it plays in healthcare and our daily lives. Nurses navigate politics when they read a paper, watch the news, explore the internet, and interact with others at home, work, school, church, civic organizations, and volunteer activities. However, many nurses avoid opportunities to engage in politics locally because of the word's current negative connotation.Beginning with a comprehensive look at the birth of our Republic and its founding document, the U.S. Constitution, this book explores the history of our political system and the intersection of politics, healthcare, and nursing from the 1800s to today. Nurses' roles in social challenges, policy development, advocacy, board service, and developing political awareness are highlighted. Nurses who have served in Congress and others who have run for office locally and regionally provide advice for their colleagues who are unsure how, or if, to begin their involvement. It concludes with an in-depth look at the first campaign school exclusively for nurses and the different skills required for advocacy and candidacy. This is not a policy manual or treatise from a political organization. It is designed for all nurses who want the world to be better, but don't know how to begin achieving it. It is an opportunity to explore policy and politics by focusing on what the nurse reader is passionate about and how to best attain his/her goals. Some readers will like the historical perspective; others will be intrigued by social challenges; others will embrace advocacy and/or board service; and still others will value policy involvement. Some nurse readers will enhance their political awareness and participation, with a few entering the political arena. There is something here for every nurse.Nurses must be politically aware and involved to advocate for healthcare changes and policies that will benefit our society. This book will show them how to begin that journey one step at a time.

Pregnant Women with Drug History
Maternal substance use disorders are considered a significant public health issue in Australia and globally. While it does not necessarily lead to inadequate parenting, it is strongly linked to poorer health and social outcomes for their infants. Women with substance use disorders have unique experiences compared to men, including complex histories, mental health disorders and trauma from intimate partner violence. Additionally, it is estimated that many of these women have children, and approximately 60-70% of Australian children were removed from households where substance abuse was present. Women who inject drugs face multiple challenges and are some of the most vulnerable women in society.
