Leonard M. Savoie
This book, first published in 1995, collects together 26 of Leonard M. Savoie's key speeches, all previously unpublished. Savoie was a titan in accounting education and these chapters are of valuable historical importance to the field. Section 1 consists of reports to council of the AICPA, Section 2 deals with general professional and educational issues, and Section 3 focuses on specific accounting and auditing standard-setting issues.
Intangible Asset Gap in Global Competitiveness
This book examines the role of intangible assets (IA) in companies and countries for achieving sustainable economic growth. The authors particularly focus on Sweden and other Nordic countries to analyse the IA gap using a systematized "IA metrics" approach. They also discuss the incentives needed for strategic investments into useful IA to gain national competitiveness from an economic, social and environmental policy perspective. The authors contend that despite the increasing importance of IA and intellectual capital (IC) in the economy, the current discussion has only been centered on intellectual property, which is one of the more prominent forms of intangibles. As this book demonstrates, IC and IA encompass wider dimensions of human, process, market, and renewal capital, among others. Featuring real case examples from Spotify, Minecraft and Izettle, this book offers a strategy for the resurrection of competitive advantage in the globalized economy and the advancement of some key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
When Numbers Don't Add Up
The author contextualized the phenomenon of accounting fraud using a framework he developed called "Corporate Governance Cosmos." The book contains an extensive literature review including an evaluation of the seminal theory in this area, namely, the Fraud Triangle. There is a comprehensive exploration of the motivations for accounting fraud and a growing realization that Dark Triad (psychopathy, narcissism, and machiavellianism) tendencies may explain why executives engage in accounting fraud. The author expands an established framework entitled Cooks Recipes Incentives Monitoring End results (C R I M E) by Rezaee (2005), to ''C R I M E L'', where L is the "Learning" from 33 international case studies of accounting fraud.Accountants, auditors, antifraud practitioners, and graduate students will find the case studies of accounting fraud particularly useful as it makes the phenomenon tangible and more understandable. The penultimate chapter is a study of the likely impact of financial technology on accounting fraud. The author concludes by marshalling various insights including a brief discussion of ethics, forwarding his International Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants (IFAC) ''Ethical Triangle'', his vision for the future accountant, which he refers to as ''accounting engineers'', and an ancient prescription for the curse of accounting fraud.
Analysing Financial Performance
This book offers a solution to a major gap in the literature and understanding for those seeking to measure, analyse and benchmark the financial performance of any organization (for-profit, not-for-profit and government agencies).
New Public Management (Npm) and the Introduction of an Accrual Accounting System
In recent decades, the dissemination and the adoption of new public management (NPM) have been significant within the new public sector. One key innovation is the adoption of accrual accounting from business enterprise. The unresolved question is, what does accrual accounting mean in practice for government? This book analyzes the initial stage of development of an accrual accounting system in the context of regional government in Italy. It presents the accrual accounting system as a new technology and contributes to understanding of neutral tools involved in a public sector reform.
Anarchist Accounting
Based on the economic model Participatory Economics, the author proposes a set of accounting principles for an economy comprised of common ownership of productive resources, worker and consumer councils, and democratic planning, promoting the model's core values.

The Wealth of Nations (Complete) (Books 1-5) (Deluxe Library Binding)
The Wealth of Nations, is the magnum opus of the Scottish economist and moral philosopher Adam Smith. First published in 1776, the book offers one of the world's first collected descriptions of what builds nations' wealth, and is today a fundamental work in classical economics. By reflecting upon the economics at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the book touches upon such broad topics as the division of labour, productivity, and free markets. The Wealth of Nations is considered to be the most important substantive proposition in all of economics and a foundation of resource-allocation theory. It is that, under competition, owners of resources (labour, land, and capital) will use them most profitably, resulting in an equal rate of return in equilibrium for all uses. With more than 36,000 scholarly citations, Smith's work is the second most cited book in the social sciences published before 1950, behind Karl Marx's Das Kapital.
The Routledge Companion to Financial Accounting Theory
Financial accounting theory has numerous practical applications and policy implications, for instance, international accounting standard setters are increasingly relying on theoretical accounting concepts in the creation of new standards; and corporate regulators are increasingly turning to various conceptual frameworks of accounting to guide regulation and the interpretation of accounting practices. The global financial crisis has also led to a new found appreciation of the social, economic and political importance of accounting concepts generally and corporate financial reporting in particular. For instance, the fundamentals of capital market theory (i.e. market efficiency) and measurement theory (i.e. fair value) have received widespread public and regulatory attention. This comprehensive, authoritative volume provides a prestige reference work which offers students, academics, regulators and practitioners a valuable resource containing the current scholarship and practice in the established field of financial accounting theory.

How to Invest
This book en-captures the struggles that one has to overcome when starting to invest in the JSE. It goes on further to discuss the mistakes a young investor can make along with the dos and don'ts of investing. Tips are also provided at the end, for the reader's benefit. I have made a lot of mistakes that you would expect from a novice, and it is how I bounced back and what I have learnt from these mistakes that I would like to share with you. The book also goes through the trading process along with the different financial institutions and resources available to you in Jamaica. From my experiences and knowledge, I fully endorse this book to the novice and/or intermediate investor. One has to appreciate the stock exchange for what it is (a tool for long term wealth creation) before starting to invest. With that said, the Jamaican Stock Market has been rated as the best performing exchange for two consecutive years; and has consistently been in the top 5 exchanges in the world for the past half a decade producing considerable high returns on investment during that period. As such, I also think the Jamaica stock exchange would be a great market to invest in for persons living overseas. One Love.

Basic Finance for Nonfinancial Managers
Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment...This famous quote, by Jim Rohn, says a lot about the importance of discipline in today's world. And financial discipline is even more important.Badly run companies don't want to know how bad they're doing. However, even companies that are doing well are missing out on gains due to poor accounting and inadequate financial analysis.Poor accounting and finance can result in the non-acquisition of loans, mistrust of business partners, poor business decisions, and in the long run even loss of assets or business. After all, the management of a company is responsible for the accuracy of its financial statements. Therefore, the quality and professional competencies of the employees in the accounting service should be a criterion that weighs the price of the service.Especially in times of crisis, cooperation between accounting services and management is very important. Maybe the last business year was worse than the previous one, so it is even more important how the company presented the basic information: the relationship between customers and suppliers, the amount of financial liabilities, the ratio of financial liabilities to the maturity of assets; capital to finance operations, turnover of funds and so on. Too often, banks give companies a worse credit rating and then a lower borrowing limit as a consequence of poor accounting presentation. This can mean fewer loans at a higher interest rate. In the worst case, the credit rating committee even rejects the company. Here's What's Included In this BookUnderstand the Important of Accurate Financial Data AnalysisInterpret Income Statements, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statements with lots of examplesValuation Ratios that are essential to run a businessTwo Techniques to Manage Asset ValuationsTwo critical metrics to Analyze Company GrowthTwo critical metrics to Analyze Company StabilityHow ANOVA and t-test can be used to make business decisionsHow to Inflation Proof Your BusinessCost of Capital and Risk ManagementAnd much more....Enjoy!!!

New Ways of Organizing
This book is about integral organizing. Organizations face major challenges in terms of innovation, customerfocus, flexibility, productivity, and finding and retaining talent. Technical innovations in and of themselves canonly address such challenges to a limited extent. Attention to culture and behaviour, in and of itself, also has itslimitations. Social innovation relates to the integral development and renewal of the organisation. Many organizations, however, are based on persistent bureaucratic organizational principles that are outdated.New ways of organizing offer sustainable solutions for the limitations and dysfunctions that cling to traditionallystructured organizations. We are not under the illusion that a few quick fixes and quick wins will provide thesolution to all of today's organizational problems. The first part of this book is therefore aimed at getting to thebottom of how organisations operate. Why do organisations function as they do under certain conditions? Whydo people behave the way they do under certain conditions? A fundamental understanding of the problems oforganizations is a prerequisite for sustainable solutions. In finding structural solutions to organizational problems, as discussed in the second part of this book, an organization'sstrategy serves as the main guide. The basic starting point for realizing organizational design is theprimary process and its requirements. Moreover, in an integral organization, solutions are not fixed in advance;the purpose is to find design solutions that are tailored to the particularities of each organization. In this context, we deal with an integral design chain that provides support in establishing solutions for specific, real-lifesituations.This book is a translation of the Dutch version of Het Nieuwe Organiseren, first published in 2010. Its contenthas been thoroughly used by professors and lecturers since the very first edition, and their feedback has beentaken into account with this newly translated revision. The scope of the discussion of certain themes has beennarrowed, and new themes and cases have been added in order to bring more clarity to the structure of thebook. Ideas about the network regime have been expanded into two new chapters which include current trendssuch as Agile, Scrum and the 'exponential' organization, as well as the socio-technical perspective.New Ways of Organizing is written for students, practitioners, and organizational experts who want to take thenecessary time to delve into the functioning of organizations within the context of their structure, and want tohelp think about sustainable social innovation.

The Data Imperative
Companies across all industries are engaging in digital transformation to harness the power of advanced information technologies. Building on interviews and diverse case studies, this book provides an in-depth look at how data and algorithms are reshaping management practices, organizational structures, corporate culture, and work roles. Henri Schildt develops a broad framework for understanding digitalization not as a technological change but as a new normative mind-set, here called 'the data imperative'. It describes the new managerial ideals that compel companies to pursue digital omniscience and omnipotence-abilities to represent and understand the world through real-time data flow and to control customer experiences, physical equipment, and workers with software. The efforts to complement and replace human expertise with data and smart algorithms are associated with shifts in strategic priorities, adoption of powerful modular architectures, new organizational structures, and the introduction of artificial intelligence into diverse work roles. Surveying the developments in management and the workplace, this book offers an integrative and balanced account of the on-going changes that will continue to affect everyone from executives and professionals to front-line workers.

’counting Black and White Beans’
Across the US and the UK, few senior accountants exist in proportion to their white peers, and only a handful ever reach the level of partner in large accounting firms. This problem has been left largely unexamined on both sides of the Atlantic and is overwhelmingly disregarded due to an inherent assumption of racial neutrality within the field of accountancy. This book unpacks the lived working experience of black accountants in the US and UK to highlight the existence of institutionalized racism. Using the perspective of Critical Race Theory (CRT), Anton Lewis demonstrates how the black accountant is in fact an outsider, with limited options for professional progress. He offers a qualitative, narrative-focused approach, exploring detailed testimonies of Black British and African American accountants within a CRT theoretical framework, to highlight how the field of accounting has participated in a historic system of racial and professional inequities. This book invites the reader to critically examine how black people enter and progress in the field and comprehend the processes by which black accountants understand the impact race has on their professional identities. Looking at the way forward, the author also serves up practical guidelines for black accountants on how to network, and how best to strategize for success across their careers from entry level positions, to senior professionals seeking partnership.
