Sander breaks down the wall between two storied pavilions--designed by Bruno Giacometti and Carlo Scarpa--at Venice's Architecture Biennale With her site-specific interventions, artist Karin Sander (born 1957) operates on the underlying structures defining space and institutions. She manipulates them, recontextualizes them and encourages their collective appropriation. For this monograph, the artist applies her method to ARCH+, tracing connections between the pages of the magazine and the wall as a constitutive element in artistic and spatial practice. Authors and collaborators commissioned by Karin Sander comment on her artistic practice. The publication also reflects upon Karin Sander and Philip Ursprung's contribution to the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, titled Neighbours, which literally dissolved the wall separating the Swiss Pavilion from the neighboring Venezuelan Pavilion. Citation and Quotation in Early Modern Architecture
Citare in Italian means both to cite and to quote. Citazione means both citation and quotation. This volume, with many discussions of annotations or marginal notes (postils), aims to tease out one of the principal threads of the over-arching theme of what might be termed 'Lost and Found in Translation' with regard to Early Modern Architecture. Citation of texts in relation to Early Modern architectural design, treatise writing and theory, has long been studied, but mostly in ways which have never clearly distinguished between three important but different terms: mindset, citation and quotation. This volume charts citation from Filarete and ancient descriptions of Near Eastern Architecture, to difficulties in understanding Vitruvius, and Lost and found in Fra Giocondo's Vitruvius. The investigation then broadens to Tracing Renaissance Italian Architectural Books in colonial Mexico and an examination of reverse ekphrasis and Early Modern Architecture. It then turns to twisted words and borrowed wisdom: misleading citation in Scamozzi's Idea dell'architettura universale (1615), before heading East to discuss formats and functions of large-scale calligraphy in late-Ming and Qing-period China and the reconstruction of architectural spaces. Turning to Quotation, the investigation begins with Pirro Ligorio, the 'Megala' ship and the Cortile del Belvedere, and invention, imitation and reiteration: the case of Bramante's Palazzo Caprini and its progeny. Then follows Quoting from memory: centralized models and basilica systems in early counter-reformation Venice, followed by 'Borrominismo' in eighteenth century Lisbon, and old form with new function: Villa Emo-Amtshaus W繹rlitz, and concludes with found and reshaped in translation: architectural models between centre and periphery. An important reading for anybody interested in Early Modern Architecture.

Between Conventional and Experimental
Mass housing and prefabrication shaped global modernist architecture like no other aspect of industrialised construction. This book offers a comprehensive exploration of how both conventional and experimental prototypes and series gave rise to an architecture for all, often responding to crises, the imperatives of nation-building, and housing shortages by rapidly developing, distributing, and assembling structures. The book's contributions, with a geographical emphasis on Europe and Israel, offer innovative approaches to the history of prefabrication. Some explore partially unearthed empirical ground, such as cases from Finland and Sweden, while others offer a fresh interpretation of prefabrication's role in the history of global architecture and planning after WWII, notably in the USSR and Italy. Ecclesiastical architecture and art
This work addresses the issues surrounding the design development of Christian architecture and the church building, its artistic representations from Paleochristian times to the present day. In this sense, the work aims to subsidize conceptual guidelines for future ecclesiastical architecture projects, assuming a concern for environmental integration, in the face of the demands of today's society. The insertion of sacred art into the sphere of sustainable development is insistently referred to by the Church of Rome, which is currently proposing a model of celebratory space, which turns to the continuity of natural life, in order to perpetuate the Christian faith, divine creation, and its surrounding world. In order to fully understand the important role of ecclesiastical architecture and art within societies, and how the way in which worship is provided directly impacts on the daily conduct of users, it is essential that this work covers the areas of sacred architecture in the sensory experimentation of the transcendent, architecture at the service of liturgy and, finally, the church building and sustainable development, resulting in conceptual guidelines.
Islamic Thoughts in Iranian Architecture
Irans, with a history of several thousand years, has been home to large living complexes such as the Burnt City in Sistan and other similar large complexes, which are evidence that the history of architecture and urban living in this land dates back to ancient times. Although Iranian culture and worldview have undergone changes with the change of rulers, invasions, and migrations throughout different historical periods, and the remaining architectural remnants attest to these transformations, what is noteworthy is that none of these changes in Iran have been as influential as the cultural transformation that occurred with the arrival of Islam and the Arabs on Iranian architecture and urban planning. The historical background of the Arabs shows that they did not have such a shining background in architecture and urban planning. Therefore, the factor that led to these influences and changes in Iranian architecture and urban planning was Islam and its religious teachings. In fact, Islam prompted Iranian architects and urban planners to present arts that combined local elements with religious teachings and beliefs to the world.

It may be easy to brush aside as unimportant or banal, especially as countless alerts of thrilling global events imply our own doings are mild and humble. For this iteration of LUNCH, volume 18, we made a choice to dwell in this everyday space, look around a bit more carefully, and find the spectacular hiding in plain sight.The everyday contains the quiet fabric of our lives, our routines, and the familiar places where we work, live, and study. The reliable infrastructures that tether our world together melt into the background, while the norms and practices that give shape to our social ecosystems may pass by unquestioned. Days blur together and become forgotten; days are spent waiting for the spectacular to save us from boredom.But everyday is fragile. Moments of excitement, trauma, and displacement punctuate the continuum. What comes afterward is different. The river narrows and quickens, deepens and slows. The landscape of the everyday floods, inundating familiar landmarks and overwriting the ground itself, creating a new topography on which we rebuild. We mark the highwater line and carry on.We've organized LUNCH 18 into four sections: Artifacts, Ritual, Overlooked, and Questioning. These arose from inherent tensions between our contributions, highlighting the richness and complex竅ity of the everyday. Ritual focuses on the act of returning, while Artifacts reexamines that which is left behind. Overlooked inspects visibility and commonness. Questioning seeks to reframe our relationships to both physical space and ideas. We hope this journal will provide you space for slowing down, shifting perspective, and finding beauty in the everyday.

Sikandarah
Jalal-ud-din Muhammad Akbar's resting place is located in Sikandarah (British synonyms to Sikandra) in the outskirts of Agra, Uttar Pradesh. This handsome monument displays a coherent amalgamation of architecture, landscape and detailing through geometry, calligraphy and Islimi in Mughal architecture. Documenting the geometric adornments of this magnificent yet humble monument was the starting of this book. The scope expanded in adding the other details like calligraphy and Islimi thus completing the book. H. Masud Taj, an architect, calligrapher and poet, generously contributed through his elegant calligraphy and further expanding to epigraphy and poetry. He also contributed an essay on the significance of Charbagh. Shruti Barve, a landscape architect, wrote an essay about the landscape and Islimi details binding it together.Following the introduction, the book is seamlessly organized through geometry, photography and essay on Islimi and calligraphy, epigraphy, poetry. The book is a humble attempt in showcasing and interpreting the details which aligned with the interest of the contributors. The book aims at spreading and celebrating the marvellous details of the beloved architectural monument through documentation, photography, geometric analysis and composition, calligraphy, epigraphy, poetry and Islimi.

To study the built environment of the Americas is to wrestle with an inherent contradiction. While the disciplines of architecture, urban design, landscape, and planning share the fundamental belief that space and place matter, the overwhelming majority of canonical knowledge and the vernacular used to describe these disciplines comes from another, very different, continent. With this book, Fernando Luiz Lara discusses several theories of space--drawing on cartography, geography, anthropology, and mostly architecture--and proposes counterweights to five centuries of Eurocentrism. The first part of Spatial Theories for the Americas offers a critique of Eurocentrism in the discipline of architecture, problematizing its theoretical foundation in relation to the inseparability of modernization and colonization. The second part makes explicit the insufficiencies of a hegemonic Western tradition at the core of spatial theories by discussing a long list of authors who have thought about the Americas. To overcome centuries of Eurocentrism, Lara concludes, will require a tremendous effort, but, nonetheless, we have the responsibility of looking at the built environment of the Americas through our own lenses. Structures in Architecture Education
There has been a historical discord over curriculum and teaching practices for structures courses in architectural education, as students are disinterested and not able to integrate learnings from such courses into their design solutions.The research in the book "Structures in Architecture Education: Teaching and Integrating in Design" involves the development of an assessment tool by a comparative analysis of past frameworks to understand integration that assesses three dimensions of integration of structures (performance, physical and visual) against three building systems (exterior, interior and services). Around 27-30 samples are selected for each year from first to fourth from three institutions. Data for pedagogy and curriculum are also collected that is used to analyse the results from assessment of samples.In the second part of this book, structural equation modelling is used to analyse if the studio is the preferred mode of learning structures.

Post-war architecture in the city of Le籀n
This work, entitled "Postwar architecture in the city of Le籀n", has as its main objective to identify and analyze the architecture of this historical period in the city of Le籀n and to confirm the existence of a specific architecture during the first years of Franco's dictatorship, specifically the period between 1939 and the early 1950's. We have first reviewed the general historiography and then the one referring specifically to the city of Le籀n, of which there are hardly any studies. This is a lack that we have tried to solve with an interdisciplinary analysis that will give us a broad and human perspective of what the architectural forms erected at the end of the Civil War in Le籀n meant and mean. A review of the architectural-urban spaces where different buildings were constructed during this period has been carried out, showing two types of development: the center of the city was the space chosen by the regime to locate the most solemn, grandiloquent and guiding infrastructures of public life; while the periphery was the place destined to the most austere architectures.
Implementation of the SIG/BIM system at municipal level
The main focus of this research is to contribute in some way to the adoption of digital engineering by public authorities, with the aim of improving the basic principles of public administration: transparency, speed and efficiency. Through a bibliographic review, the paper explores the Geographic Information System and the Building Information Modeling system, applied as a mechanism for realizing the concept of the smart city, that is, through the management of information in the built space. As a technology capable of parameterizing objects, the integration of these two systems makes it possible to improve urban planning, the efficiency of public services, transparency and sustainability aimed at city development. The GIS/BIM system will contribute to both the city manager and the ordinary citizen. It is important to demonstrate the essential need to integrate internal modeling with external modeling, so that a more realistic view of the urban space is possible. And finally, to show that real, accessible, integrated information is a means of optimizing public services in order to achieve smart city status.
