The first study focusing on the composition of new plainchant in northern-French confraternities for masses and offices in honor of saints thought to have healing powers Starting in the fourteenth century, northern France saw the rise of confraternities and other lay communities of men and women, organized around trades and religious devotions dedicated to specific patron saints. The composition of new plainchant for masses and offices in honor of saints thought to have healing powers occupied an important place in the devotional landscape of the region. Sarah Ann Long's deeply researched new book highlights the decentralized nature of religious and spiritual authority from 1300-1550, which allowed confraternities to cultivate liturgical practices heavily influenced by popular devotional literature. It challenges pre-conceived notions of the power of the Catholic Church at that time, and the extent to which religious devotions were regulated and standardized. The resulting conclusion is that confraternity devotions occupied a liminal space that provided a certain amount of musical freedom. Examining musical culture at the intersection of the medieval and early modern eras, this work explores such subjects as manuscript production and early music printing; and it investigates not only plainchant, but a broad range of musical styles from the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries. These include polyphonic embellishments of chant written by some of the most famous composers of the era, which were performed at the French, Burgundian, and Papal Courts.

Die von mir gew瓣hlte Epoche umfasst grunds瓣tzlich eine Kombination aus den Genres Funk und Pop und bewegt sich zeitlich in den siebziger Jahren. Ich habe mich dabei stilistisch an dem Titel Superstition von Stevie Wonder (1972) orientiert, diesen aber nicht nachproduziert, sondern versucht den selben Vibe zu erzeugen und all-gemeine Einfl羹sse des damaligen Pop-Funk-Sounds in der Produktion aufzugreifen. Funk entwickelte sich zwischen 1950 und 1970 aus Einfl羹ssen von Soul, Blues und Jazz zu einer eigenst瓣ndigen Musikrichtung. Typisch f羹r Funk sind die Verwendung von Blechbl瓣sern, speziell Saxophone und Trompeten. Ebenso wird das Genre durch eine repetitive Rhythmik mit einem durchg瓣ngigen Off-Beat charakterisiert, bei der der Gesang sich oft so stark an die Grundrhythmik anpasst, dass er eher als perkussives Element denn als melodisches funktioniert. Weitere typische Instrumente sind der E-Bass, Rhythmus-Gitarren und Hammond-Orgeln. Pop in den 1970er Jahren war in der Regel tanzbar, funktionierte daher gut in der Disco und strahlte eine allgemeine Leichtigkeit aus, die der Zeit entsprach.

Ziel ist es, einen ?berblick 羹ber den Diskurs der Pop-Theorie in Bezug auf Rockmusik und den damit verbundenen Schwierigkeiten, sich in der Musikindustrie als ehrlichen K羹nstler zu vermarkten, aufzuzeigen. Die Arbeit besch瓣ftigt sich deshalb mit den Ereignissen im musikalischen Jahrzehnt der Doors anhand einer chronologischen Herangehensweise. Dabei wird zuerst der Fokus auf die sozio繹konomischen Entwicklungen in Bezug auf das stetige Wirtschaftswachstum und der damit einhergehenden Ver瓣nderung des popkulturellen Begriffs gelegt. Diese Darstellung ist p瓣dagogisch-praktisch ausgerichtet und verzichtet auf Kritik zur lebensweltlichen P瓣dagogik. Schlie?lich wird 羹ber Verhaltensm繹glichkeiten des Lehrers nachgedacht, die sich der Lebensweltthematik anpassen und so den Unterricht konstruktiv bereichern k繹nnen. Da das Unterrichtskonzept interdisziplin瓣r - Musik und Religion - ausgelegt ist, wird kurz das Zusammenspiel und Wechselspiel dieser beiden F瓣cher im Unterricht beleuchtet. Anschlie?end wird der Topos Sehnsucht, der dem Unterrichtskonzept zugrunde liegt, philosophisch und psychologisch beschrieben und seine Verankerung im Alltag und in der Theologie dargestellt. Reproduction of Armenianness in Diasporic Spaces
This research is conceived as an empirically grounded analysis of ethnicity and diasporic identity. It seeks to understand how ethnicity works and is reproduced in diasporic space through focusing on the Armenian Diaspora in Turkey, Lebanon and Britain. Differently from traditional approaches, this book shows us that Armenianness is not a holistic "thing". Rather, it is socially constructed and consists of various cues affected by interactions and contexts. This book describes that the reproduction of Armenianness in diasporic spaces is a patchwork having countless patterns, colours, and meanings. Although all define themselves as Armenian, their understandings of Armenianness vary. Armenianness sometimes seems to be ethnic, nationalist, political, moderate or congregational among diasporic spaces.

In der Arbeit geht es um die Geschichte der T羹rkenoper. Dazu werden zun瓣chst die Vorl瓣ufer der T羹rkenoper beschrieben. Daran schlie?t sich eine kurze Darstellung der Orientbilder und der "t羹rkischen" Musik zur Zeit Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts an. In einem dritten Schritt wird die weitere Entwicklung im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert skizziert. This title was first published in 2003. From 1821 until his death, Schubert compiled or specially composed for publication 42 song sets, yet during his own lifetime, and until now, their integrity and importance as sets have been virtually ignored. In this book, Michael Hall asserts that these songs sets are not arbitrary collections, as so often assumed, but highly integrated works in their own right. Approaching these songs as sets the book throws light on Schubert's largely undiscussed intellectual preoccupations. They reveal that he was au fait with most of the philosophical concerns of his time, especially those which touched on Romanticism. But although the sets reflect Romanticism in their topics, Hall maintains that they are the epitome of classical balance. In encouraging students and performers to approach these songs as sets, this study aims to alter perceptions of this important repertory.

Doch nicht nur das. Es soll auch an seinem Beispiel und mithilfe gr繹?tm繹glicher N瓣he zu seiner Person dargestellt werden, wie ein einzelner Mensch nur mit seiner Leidenschaft zur Musik und zu einem Instrument solch eine pr瓣gende Pionierrolle einnehmen kann, wie in diesem Fall Jaco. Durch seinen unersch羹tterlichen Willen Musik zu machen, ist er zu jemandem geworden, der noch 羹ber Jahrzehnte die Musiklandschaft beeinflussen und immer wieder neuen Generationen von Musikern Inspiration schenken wird. Und auch wenn der E-Bass nicht das typische Instrument f羹r das Rampenlicht ist, so hat Jaco doch daf羹r gesorgt, dass er und auch der Bass mit den Instrumenten, die sonst eher im Vordergrund stehen, auf einem Level spielen. Man kann wohl mit Sicherheit sagen, dass er den Weg geebnet hat f羹r Solobassisten wie z.B. Victor Wooten oder Marcus Miller, aber dass er auch das Bassspiel 羹berhaupt aus einer Versenkung hervorgeholt hat, in der es vorher nur ein Nischendasein als reines Begleitinstrument gefristet hat. Nat羹rlich sollen hier die gro?en Namen des Jazz wie Oscar Pettiford oder Paul Chambers nicht in den Schatten gestellt werden, doch bewegten sie sich alle noch in einem Rahmen aus dem Jaco schlie?lich ausbrach und eine Welt erkundete, in die sich vorher noch keiner wagte. Deshalb soll in dieser Hausarbeit das Licht nicht ausschlie?lich auf sein turbulentes Privatleben geworfen werden, sondern vor allem auch auf sein Umfeld und den Einfluss, den er schon zu seinen Lebzeiten auf andere Musiker hatte, da diese sein Erbe erst weitergetragen und somit sein Pioniertum auch erst erm繹glicht haben.

Die gewaltige Ambivalenz zur vorausgegangenen sechsten Sinfonie ist nicht zu 羹bersehen und auch der Zeitraum sowie die Reihenfolge der Komposition der S瓣tze gibt so manches R瓣tsel 羹ber die Bedeutung der Sinfonie auf. Ebenfalls ist durch diese vielen Unverst瓣ndlichkeiten die Einordnung in den Kontext der anderen Sinfonien, f羹r die Mahler ja so oft pl瓣dierte, erschwert und es ist fraglich, inwieweit es sinnvoll ist, hier biografische Fakten hinzuzuziehen, um den Inhalt einer so zerst羹ckelten Sinfonie zu deuten und die Verwandtschaft zu ihren Artgenossen zu analysieren. Viele Kritiker haben sich 羹ber die verschiedensten Zug瓣nge an diese Sinfonie gewagt und sind zu den unterschiedlichsten Ergebnissen gekommen, doch gibt es auch Gemeinsamkeiten, vor allem was den Finalsatz angeht, scheinen sie sich fast alle in einer kollektiven Verwirrung einig zu sein. Um sie alle aufzuz瓣hlen respektive zu erw瓣hnen wird in dieser Hausarbeit wohl kein Platz sein, doch werde sich versuchen einige Meinungen anzurei?en und sie sich gegen羹berstellen lassen, so dass man vielleicht einen ungef瓣hren ?berblick bekommt, wie sehr diese Komposition Mahlers f羹r Unruhe sorgte und auch immer noch sorgt. When I think back to my best mixes--regardless of their commercial success--in each and every case, I can only describe the experience as one in which I was working from deep within, outside of any external forces.
