Assessment of environmental impacts from mineral extraction in the Amazon
This book discusses the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) methods used for Class II Submerged Pit Mining (Sand). The study was carried out in the municipality of Reden癟瓊o, Par獺, Brazil. It is marked by a historical occupational context of logging and mineral extraction. Mining activity has been gaining ground in the municipality, causing significant changes and consequent environmental impacts. The fact that this activity is carried out without a responsible technician has reversible and irreversible environmental impacts. This led to the need to assess the environmental impacts from 2013 to 2016 using the techniques of overlay mapping, check-listing and interaction matrices. The aggravating factors of the environmental impacts were highlighted by the EIA techniques in the years 2013 to 2015, and with the overlay mapping technique it was possible to quantify the amount of illegally exploited area.
Evaluation of the Health in Schools Programme in the Municipality of Tr礙s Rios/RJ
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the School Health Programme (PSE) in three public schools in the city of Tr礙s Rios - RJ, after one year of implementation. This evaluation compared the knowledge of hygiene principles reported by students from the three public schools (EPB), included in the PSE, and students from three public schools (EPC), which do not take part in the programme. The results of this study show that the PSE has contributed to the cultural integration of public school students in relation to hygiene, since published studies on this type of analysis describe superiority in EPCs compared to EPBs. The results also suggest that students from public schools, not included in the PSE, are being provided with the desired knowledge. The implementation of the PSE proved to be relevant in the short term for teaching hygiene habits in BPS and as a factor in diagnosing students' health conditions. In the long term, it is hoped that the PSE will become a factor of real importance for issues related to personal and collective hygiene.

Troubling Inheritances
This book provides an interdisciplinary focus on music, memory, and ageing by examining how they intersect outside of a formal therapeutic context or framework and by offering a counter-narrative to age as decline. It contributes to the development of qualitative research methodologies by utilizing and reflecting on methods for studying music, memory, and ageing across diverse and interconnected contexts. The creative process of children in musicalisation activities
Music, as a form of language, is a human characteristic that is present in the lives of human beings and therefore influences the cognitive, social, emotional and affective development of many who interact with it. When children come into contact with the world of sound, they recognise different sounds and are able to reproduce and reinvent them. This is possible because human beings are capable of imagining, creating and giving new meanings to their experiences. According to Vygotsky's socio-historical perspective, assumed in this work, every human activity that generates something new is a creative act and creative imagination is a process that culturally transforms reality. Based on these assumptions, objectives were set that outlined the theoretical-methodological structure of this research. The general aim was to understand the creative process of children in early childhood education who are new to musicalisation activities, involving the recognition, identification and representation of sound elements from various sound productions. It is hoped that this work will broaden discussions in the area and promote new meanings in the practice of musicalisation for children.

How does a composer feel when his work is premiered?
This work consists of analyzing and reflecting on the reactions of classical music composers at the time of the premiere of their work, whether or not they are conditioned by the practical reality of putting on a concert. Based on the existing bibliographical analysis, results and conclusions will be presented on the different reactions and ways of seeing the moment of the premiere. Conclusions will be drawn with a view to relating the practical reality and the final result to future works and/or to the composer's own way of composing. Finally, the processes and dynamics of the phenomenon will be demonstrated through the analysis of various current cases with their own specificities.

Hidden Treasures
Gustav Mahler once said, "With song you can express so much more in the music than the words directly say. The text is actually a mere indication of the... hidden treasure within." Over fourteen years, from 1887-1901, he devoted his compositional output almost exclusively to texts and ideas drawn from a collection of German folk poetry entitled Des Knaben Wunderhorn: Alte deutsche Lieder, resulting in twenty-four songs which heavily inspired his first four symphonies. This study explores Mahler's songs based on this poetry and identifies the connections the composer found between these products of Germany's folk past and his own contemporary environment. The songs he created comment on and engage with Vienna's musical life, Freudian theory, Mahler's religious life, his family relationships, his views on women and romance, economic inequality, and wartime violence. As remnants of a folk tradition, the poems contained in Des Knaben Wunderhorn served the purpose of instructing young people on ways of conducting themselves, just as fairy tales do today. Mahler's adaptation of these stories and his updating of them to serve audiences of his own time demonstrate the universality of the lessons these poems provide, both to audiences of Mahler's day, and also to our own.

Gaston Crunelle and Flute Playing in Twentieth-Century France
Gaston Crunelle (1898--1990) was a remarkable flutist and a beloved teacher, yet his name is hardly known today. Gaston Crunelle and Flute Playing in Twentieth-Century France restores Crunelle's place in the pantheon of flutists while revealing details of musical life in France during his lifetime. Crunelle was Professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatory from 1941 to 1969--the longest tenure of any flute professor in the Conservatory's history--and taught an entire generation of the world's leading flutists, including Michel Debost, James Galway, Christian Lard矇, Maxence Larrieu, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. He took an active interest in the annual commissions of morceaux de concours or contest pieces--including works by Dutilleux, Jolivet, Messiaen, and Sancan--which the book discusses in detail. As a performer, Crunelle was principal flutist of the Op矇ra-Comique and the Pasdeloup Orchestra and a member of the Quintette Instrumental de Paris, an ensemble of flute, harp, and string trio that left a rich legacy of about fifty commissioned works. His recordings of solo and chamber music of Bach, Mozart, and Baroque and twentieth-century French composers are among the best of the 78-rpm and early LP eras. In following Crunelle's early development through to his storied career as performer and pedagogue, Gaston Crunelle and Flute Playing in Twentieth-Century France also chronicles the evolution of musical life in France during the twentieth century, covering music during the silent film era, the interruptions of World War I, the apogee of Paris as a musical center between the wars, the German Occupation of 1940--1944, and the many changes in music and education after May 1968, including the increased participation by women. Through thorough archival research Garrison reveals previously unknown details about the relationships between Crunelle and other French flutists of his time, especially Marcel Moyse and Ren矇 LeRoy. Oral histories showcase Crunelle's pedagogy, and discographies cover Crunelle and the Quintette Instrumental de Paris. From these rich resources emerges the sympathetic figure of flutist Gaston Crunelle, unjustly forgotten until now.

Itineraries of music teaching
This work presents research that reveals the itineraries of music teaching in three scenarios in the Blumenau Municipal Education Network: the Art subject; the School Bands and Fanfares Program; and the Early Childhood Education Musicalization Project. From these scenarios, the origins and trajectories of music teaching in the network are identified, permeated by school culture. As well as musical pedagogical practices, teaching conceptions, among other aspects that have marked this historical journey.
The Impact of Mastectomy on Women's Body Image and Sexuality
For most women, breast cancer and its frequent amputation encourage the development of negative consequences for their body image and, consequently, their sexuality. The breast is closely related to female identity, maturity, sexuality and motherhood, so the impact of mastectomy on women seems to be evident, and challenges emerge for perioperative nursing. With this in mind, we have produced this book, the main aim of which is to integrate and analyse data from studies carried out, contributing to a better understanding of the current situation and promoting the increasing quality of the care provided. The results of the studies show that body image impairment is directly related to the experience of sexuality, and that the more mutilating the surgery, the greater the body image impairment. In this context, nursing interventions, particularly of an informative nature, are extremely important as they facilitate adaptive processes.

The Gentleman Dancing-Master
The Gentleman Dancing-Master: Mr Isaac and the English Royal Court from Charles II to Queen Anne is a study of the life of the most significant dancing-master at the late-Stuart court in London. It discusses his use of dance music and brings together, for the first time, reprints of the notations of all his twenty-three surviving dances created for performance at court in the presence of the monarch, including several created to celebrate the birthdays of Queen Anne or named after important courtiers or political events. This study highlights the significance of dance as a central part of court culture, and also the wider context of the London book trade within which Isaac's notators turned his dances into a publishable form ultimately taken over by John Walsh's music publishing firm. Using extensive archival and printed sources from his day, the book follows Isaac's career as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer of sophisticated duets in the fashionable French style, some of which were also performed in the theatre. Isaac, however, was no slavish follower of French fashion, and by careful consideration of the extant dances from the point of view of a dancer, this study also seeks to throw light on Isaac's often individualistic approach to choreography.
Music in Edwardian London
Traversing London's musical culture, this book boldly illuminates the emergence of Edwardian London as a beacon of musical innovation. The dawning of a new century saw London emerge as a hub in a fast-developing global music industry, mirroring Britain's pivotal position between the continent, the Americas and the British Empire. It was a period of expansion, experiment and entrepreneurial energy. Rather than conservative and inward-looking, London was invigorated by new ideas, from pioneering musical comedy and revue to the modernist departures of Debussy and Stravinsky. Meanwhile, Elgar, Holst, Vaughan Williams, and a host of ambitious younger composers sought to reposition British music in a rapidly evolving soundscape. Music was central to society at every level. Just as opulent theatres proliferated in the West End, concert life was revitalised by new symphony orchestras, by the Queen's Hall promenade concerts, and by Sunday concerts at the vast Albert Hall. Through innumerable band and gramophone concerts in the parks, music from Wagner to Irving Berlin became available as never before. The book envisions a burgeoning urban culture through a series of snapshots - daily musical life in all its messy diversity. While tackling themes of cosmopolitanism and nationalism, high and low brows, centres and peripheries, it evokes contemporary voices and characterful individuals to illuminate the period. Challenging issues include the barriers faced by women and people of colour, and attitudes inhibiting the new generation of British composers - not to mention embedded imperialist ideologies reflecting London's precarious position at the centre of Empire. Deaf young people and inclusive music education
This study was carried out during my undergraduate degree in music education with the intention of understanding the relationship between deaf young people and their interaction with music. It is a qualitative investigation, with data collected through a questionnaire and interviews with young people. It is hoped that the results will help music educators plan and make the necessary adaptations to inclusive music classes.
