Alive in the Sound
In Alive in the Sound, Ronald Radano proposes a new understanding of US Black music by focusing on the key matter of value, manifested musically in its seemingly embodied qualities-spirit, soul, and groove. While acknowledging these qualities are always embedded in Black music, Radano shows they developed not simply from performance but from musicians' status as laborers inhabiting an enduring racial-economic contradiction: Black music originated publicly as an exchangeable property owned by people whose subhuman status granted them-as "natural" musicians-indelible properties of sound. As a contradiction of the rules of ownership, wherein enslaved property was forbidden the right to own, modern Black music emerges after emancipation as a primary possession, moving dialectically into commercial markets and counterhistorically back into Black worlds. Slavery's seminal contests of ownership underlie modern musical sensations of aliveness, which become the chief measure of value in popular music. By reconceiving US Black music history as a history of value, Radano rethinks the music's place in US and global culture.

Reforming Community examines the key role religious music played in the formation of English identity in the nation's capital as the governments of Edward VI and Mary I imposed competing religious agendas on a populace whose members held a plurality of views about reform. The book begins by examining the relationship between the "official" liturgical policies of Edward VI and Mary I and the practices of London's parish churches, demonstrating that those across the confessional spectrum relied on links to the Henrician past to redefine their worship spaces. In the public sphere, however, supporters of the Edwardine and Marian governments sometimes differed; though both turned to the new genre of godly ballads, the former shaped discourses around Englishness and religion by promoting scripture-based song, while the latter relied heavily on public processions to reinforce an explicitly Catholic identity. Reforming Community thus argues that in using specific music to assert confessional preferences, Londoners sought to forge their own understanding of their identities separate from Catholic (and Protestant) Europe.

The monograph presents the theoretical foundations, methods, and practical approaches to processing ground-penetrating radar (GPR) survey data for solving the problem of defectoscopy in flexible pavement, considered as a plane-layered structurally heterogeneous medium, and for further evaluation of its condition.The methods for assessing the structural reliability and risk of failure of flexible pavement based on GPR diagnostics involve incorporating GPR survey results into the calculations of the stress-strain state of the structure while accounting for its structural heterogeneity. This heterogeneity is associated with localized material discontinuities, statistical and probabilistic methods, and risk theory, allowing for the determination of structural reliability considering variations in geometric and physico-mechanical parameters.The practical defectoscopy methodology addresses the task of positioning subsurface cracks within the structure. The reliability and failure risk assessment methodology substantiates the parameters of the computational model and regulates the calculation procedures for structures with subsurface heterogeneities.

This monograph includes the latest modern data on coronary heart disease, the peculiarity of its course, etiopathogenetic risk factors predisposing to the development or progression of this disease, especially in men of working age. The literary review was compiled on the basis of modern literary sources from the CIS countries and foreign countries. When analyzing the literature, the authors were able to identify several predisposition factors for the development of coronary heart disease in working-age men, including dyslipidemia and cytokine imbalance. Based on our own clinical, laboratory, and immunological studies, we describe the characteristics of the clinical course and treatment strategies for coronary heart disease in working-age men, depending on etiopathogenetic risk factors.
