Award-winning composer Margaret Brandman's pieces for piano in this collection explore several Contemporary Classical and Jazz writing techniques in a tuneful and accessible way. They serve to familiarise the performer with tonalities other than Major and Minor by introducing students to the unique sounds of the seven standard church modes used in Western Music for over a thousand years: Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. There are two basic approaches to playing fingerstyle arrangements: memorize every note of an intricate piece and play it the same way every time, or start with an outline of the tune, and improvise variations. The first approach has the advantage that the notes are all worked out ahead of time, but takes work to memorize. The music may also get stale over time, since everything is locked in. With the second approach, memorization is easier (or maybe even unnecessary), and you can continually explore new variations, making the music more fun to play, and potentially more fun to listen to.Christmas tunes are ideally suited for the improvisational approach. Most musicians don't need to perform them all year long, and it's challenging to maintain a repertoire of memorized arrangements that get played only during the holidays. The arrangements in this book are designed to be pulled out at a moment's notice, and allow you to perform seasonal music without preparation. These sketches are similar to those found in "fake books," but designed for solo fingerstyle guitar. Jazz fake books are typically limited to just chord names and perhaps melody. These arrangements provide a bit more than that - basically easy-to-play arrangements with no complicated parts that are designed to be extended on the fly.

Composer Gary Lloyd Noland's COLLECTED PIANO WORKS: Volume 2 includes his epic-length 39 VARIATIONS ON AN ORIGINAL THEME IN F MAJOR Op. 98, his super-virtuosic GRANDE RAG BRILLANTE Op. 15, his GOLDEN GATE RAG Op. 123, and several other heretofore unpublished works for piano.39 VARIATIONS ON AN ORIGINAL THEME IN F MAJOR Op. 98 is, at approximately two hours duration, one of the lenghiest and most challenging sets in the history of the genre. It has been described by composer Ernesto Ferreri as "an historical variation set for piano, a true descendant of the Goldbergs and Diabellis, beautifully targeted to an apotheosis of supreme grandeur." Composer/pianist Ludwig Tuman described it as "an astounding tour de force. In its far-reaching, systematic exploration of the theme's creative possibilities, as well as in the inexhaustible imagination brought to bear, it reminds one of the Goldberg and the Diabelli. But in its monumental dimensions it goes far beyond them both, and in the large number of historical styles referenced and integrated into the work ... I am unaware of any parallel. I especially enjoyed the consistent use of certain features of the theme, regardless of the style or the type of tonality, pantonality or atonality employed-among them the melodic turn, the phrases ascending by whole steps, and others. I offer my humble congratulations on a titanic achievement!" Ragtime pianist Mark Lutton once described GRANDE RAG BRILLANTE Op. 15 as "the most difficult ragtime piece of all time ... The audience needs to have Attention Hyperabundance Disorder. (It's fine if, like me, your idea of a nice short little piece is a tone poem by Richard Strauss.)" The Canadian pianist and composer Max Keelyside described it as "the work of a musician's musician." GRANDE RAG BRILLANTE received its official world premiere on KPFA Radio on 4 October, 1991 in celebration of the inauguration of Pacifica Radio's (then) sparkling new facility in Berkeley, California. It was "performed" on a computer-driven Yamaha Disklavier. This historic premiere, paired with the premiere of a (then) new work by Lou Harrison, was later written up in Nicolas Slonimsky's MUSIC SINCE 1900 (an encyclopedic compendium that chronologically lists premieres of compositions that its author deems to be among the most significant and noteworthy of the 20th century). Ernesto Ferreri wrote, "Only a musical maniac could push something this far ... at times the rags fugue and the fugues rag into waves of improbable climaxes ... noticed a double fugue with the rag theme ... and you gotta love how it detours around atonality ... brillante indeed!" The late Slovak composer and conductor Ladislav Kupkovic (1936-2016) once wrote to Noland: "...Ihre Musik ist wunderschön, 'Grande Rag Brillante' ist ein Meisterwerk; als auch Komponist bin ich voll Neid, dass ich so etwas nicht schreiben kann. Ich wünsche Ihnen viel Erfolg! Ich komponiere schon viele Jahre europäisch tonal und es ist nicht leicht, so zu komponieren in einer Welt, die noch in der atonalen Ideologie denkt. Ich hoffe, Ihr Weg wird leichter." The recently revised THREE INCONGRUISMS Op. 122 (2021) are derived from various unfinished compositions by Noland dating back to the late 1970s and mid 1980s.

Chopin was one of the best pianist of the Romantic period who composed primarily for solo piano. Chopin invented the concept of instrumental Ballade, in which I have included some of them. No other composer has contributed as many significants melodies to the piano's repertoire as Chopin.Chopin piano pieces are always a joy to learn and to listen to.
Selected Piano Works of Helen C. Crane - Book Two - Advanced
Recently re-discovered composer Helen C. Crane (1868-1930) makes her 21st century debut with this collection of her piano works. A talented student of music, Ms. Crane was chosen to study composition in the 1890s with Philipp Scharwenka, pianist, composer and then director of the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory in Berlin, Germany. Here she studied alongside later notables like Otto Klemperer who was one of her contemporaries. With the completion of studies her budding career was met with numerous accolades and acceptance into the various German & Austrian publishing houses: among these Breitkopf & Hertel, Gustav Vetter, and Ries & Erler. On one of her trips home to the States (April of 1900) she premiered several of her pieces at Mendellsohn Hall in NYC and herself conducted an American premier of her orchestral tone-poem "The Last Tournament", based upon the same named chapter of Alfred Lord Tennyson's "The Idylls Of The King" Her career was marked with well-met premiers in Germany and Austria and she was honored to have her music performed by the Berlin Philharmonic at the St. Louis Exposition in 1904. Her career appeared quite vibrant until the First World War brought it all to a close. She returned to the United States in 1917 where in spite of the horrific turn of events she once again was the recipient of an award: this time American. Federated Music Clubs awarded her first prize for her composition "Elegy for Cello". In the last decade of her life (1923) indicative of her success and her abiding appreciation to German-Austrian audiences, she was gifted an "all-Helen Crane" concert at the Mozarteum in Salzberg, with Dr. Bernhard Paumgartner conducting. She passed in November of 1930 at her home in Scarsdale, NY. She accomplished a great deal in her four-decade career, her music encompassing 71 numbered works: music for piano, violin, cello, string quartets, tone-poems for orchestra, art songs, works for choir as well as for orchestra and chorus and two symphonies. Her piano music gives a unique insight into her marvelous talent and reveals a heretofore unheard American strain: the unique marriage of Helen Crane's American taste and sensibilities and her German conservatory training. It is apparent upon playing and/or listening to her music that here was fertile ground for the blossoming of all manner of future American music styles, from music for the cinema to jazz and unique styles of George Gershwin and perhaps Irving Berlin.

When Peter Schumann saw a copy of Fomite's NOTES OF DEVASTATION, a compilation of the three Passions Sch羹tz composed in his eighties, he offered to "mess it up" with drawings reflecting his secular reading of the passion stories, his German historical sense of the Thirty Years War, and his reflections on the currency of the passion themes. ES IST VOLLBRACHT-MISSION ACCOMPLISHED is that mess-up.
Collected Piano Works
This compilation of music by Gary Lloyd Noland (1957-) represents a sampling of his compositions for piano spanning the last three decades of the 20th century until the time of this writing (2021). This is a multi-faceted collection of piano pieces ranging in level from lower intermediate to upper advanced. Included in this volume are three piano rags: Russell Street Rag Op. 5 (named after the street in Berkeley on which the composer grew up), Nerdfox Rag Op. 23, and Ragbones Op. 11 (which has been described as the first piano rag in history containing a bona fide development section), along with a deconstructed and abbreviated version thereof excerpted from the composer's multi-fascicle chamber novel Venge Art (Fascicle #5, Op. 54). Also included are two fugues: Deformed Fugue Op. 17 (which can also be played on the harpsichord) and Liebesschmerz Fuge Op. 95 (in memoriam Lukas Foss), the latter of which is an intricately complex, technically daunting contrapuntal study that took the composer upwards of 28 years to complete. Several of the works in this volume-notably the Prelude in E Minor Op. 34, the Allemande in F Major Op. 76, and both Two-Part Inventions (in D Major Op. 81 and D Minor Op. 70)-pay homage to J.S. Bach and are executable on both piano and harpsichord. The Andante in F Minor for piano four-hands Op. 46 was written in homage to Franz Schubert and is the only four-hand piece included in this collection. Several other works in this volume were composed in memory of various artists: Aeternum Vale Op. 93, in memory of author David Foster Wallace following his tragic and untimely death by suicide in September, 2008; Mortesque Op. 31, in memory of composer Stephen Albert following his death in an automobile accident in December, 1992; Funeral Waltz Op. 91, in memory of John Swackhamer, one of Noland's composition teachers at U.C. Berkeley; Obsequy Op. 41, No. 5, in memory of Ivan Tcherepnin (son of Alexander Tcherepnin), one of Noland's dissertation advisors at Harvard; not to mention the most recent work in this volume-the heretofore unpublished Adagietto Doloroso Op. 121-in memory of composer/pianist Frederic Rzewski (1938-2021), who passed away only a few short weeks prior to the time of this writing. Epicedium Op. 58 was written as a memorial to the thousands of innocent victims who died in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Aside from these epitaphs, several other pieces included in this volume were written intentionally for young and/or beginning to intermediate level pianists: Broom Brigade Op. 25, Melancholic Moneymonger Op. 26, Three Little Bonbons Op. 59, Blues Flash Op. 42, in addition to most of the pieces that comprise the mini-sets Op. 40 and Op. 41. Suffice it to say that this initial volume of Noland's collected piano works provides a bounteous abundance of new repertoire for both amateur and professional pianists alike, as well as for students. More affordable volumes of Noland's piano, vocal, chamber, and orchestral music are planned for publication in the upcoming months and years.

I Am Adorie
These are personal words from a father to his daughter that I now share with the world. In a world where women are used and abused and often devalued, losing their worth and virtues and sometimes forgetting or not even knowing their worth, I was inspired to write this book. Here are 18 partitas by the Baroque composer Giuseppe Antonio Brescianello who was a contemporary of Johan Sebastian Bach. Each partita is a small collection of some 3 to 8 pieces which include Arias, Bour矇e, Entr矇es, Rigaudons, Scherzos, Trios and other pieces. These delightful melodies were originally composed for the Gallichone - a six-string instrument similar to the guitar which have now been arranged for the first time for the baritone ukulele. The Brazilian Art Song Anthology presents 25 art songs for voice and piano composed within a span of about one hundred and fifty years, between 1800 and 1950 approximately. The album provides the phonetic transcription of sung Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and the translation into English. The main objective of the phonetic transcription is to indicate the pronunciation of the language for speakers of other languages. It also helps with lyric diction, bringing attention to the points of articulation and sound production in the vocal tract and promoting the standardization of phoneme emission. The translation of the collection into English facilitates the foreign reader's understanding of the album's proposal and the textual content of the songs. We chose to maintain the musical terms in the scores used by the composer. A glossary is provided with definitions of musical and Brazilian Portuguese terms which are used throughout the text and in the poems.

They have proven to be reliable music material for a training course where the main objective is the development of a profound coordination by means of singing in tune while playing a second part at the piano. The melodies to be sung are composed on various melodic sets which are gradually introduced and systematically presented. The piano parts, to be contextually played while singing, present different grades of complexity, thus favoring a gradual approach to an increasing coordination, which this kind of practice requires. The melodies to be sung have been composed on specific systems of tonal functions, forming various pseudo-pentatonic sets. Every new melodic set is divided into two sections: melodies written combining sol-fa syllables with a rhythmic line without the use of the stave, and melodies on the stave.All melodies in this book can be sung using the solmisation system known as tonic sol-fa: the sol-fa syllables represent the degrees of the diatonic scale for the tonal model where the doh syllable represents the tonic of the major scale regardless of the key in which it lays. The syllables do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, si (ti) are abbreviated in: d r m f s l t.At this level all pieces are notated without a key signature: accidentals, therefore, will appear at the moment, 'in itinere'. This method is adopted to accustom students to using absolute sounds belonging to a specific key, making them clear every time they are needed. At the same time, by using the sol-fa system, the student will adopt a unique syllable combined to a specific tonal melodic function, regardless of which key it is in.

Once you learn these 3 scales you need to know how to apply to soloing over a chord progression. In each section I took a popular chord progression that fits perfectly over these scales. Although the chord progressions are not the focus of the book it is important to understand the key and the chords that you are soloing over. In section one, where we learn the Major Scale, we are going to use the simple chord progression that you hear on songs like, Brown Eyed Girl, a simple I-IV-I-V progression. Don't worry if you don't understand what I-IV-I-V means, it's simply C-F-C-G chords. I have take this chord progression and written a solo for you using the Major Scale. This first solo that you will learn is melodic and smooth sounding and will start to give you the ability to take the Major Scale and make it musical. In section two, we focus on the Blues. Not only will we play over a standard 12-bar Blues progression in the key of C, but we will also use the Blues Scale. The Blues is the most important styles of music you can learn as it has literally influenced every genre of music. Plus, the Blues scale is one of the coolest sounding scales that you will learn that sounds great over tons of different musical styles. The Blues solo I have written for you focuses more on learning common licks and phrases that will help you sound like a pro in no time. The cool thing is that once you learn these licks you will be able to apply them while soloing over your favorite songs. In section three, we take it to the backroads with the Major Pentatonic Scale and a Johnny Cash-style chord progression. Although the Major Pentatonic scale isn't as well know as the Blues or the Major Scale it is absolutely vital if you love Country, Americana, Folk, Rock, and Christian music. The solo that I wrote for you will weave between 2 different patterns of the Major Pentatonic scale and will show you some of the hottest country licks you have ever heard. Don't forget this is all geared for the beginner and I promise you this will unlock the mysterious world of soloing. The last step in your journey on being a great soloist is to learn how to do it yourself. That's right, you have to get your hands dirty in order to have the confidence to solo like you know you can. Three Solos for Violin and Piano from Swan Lake
(LKM Music). Concertmaster solos in Tchaikovsky's music take a prominent place. His third and fourth Suite (Mozartiana) and the second movement of the Piano Concerto No. 2 feature the solo violin. In the Imperial Ballet in St. Petersburg, the violin solos were performed by the Solo Violinist of the Tsar, a title bestowed by the tsar upon the finest violinists in all of Russia. As the ballet solos were performed by the likes of Henri Wieniawski and Leopold Auer, the composers gave free reign to their creative inspiration and wrote some of their most gorgeous lyrical and virtuoso music for solo violin. The White Swan Pas de deux and the Black Swan Pas de deux are of extraordinary beauty expressing love and impending drama. The Russian Dance is a virtuoso showpiece foreshadowing the last movement of the composer's violin concerto.
