Consuelo Kanaga
Consuelo Kanaga (1894-1978) was one of the pioneers of modern American photography. Beginning her career in 1915 as a photojournalist for the San Francisco Chronicle, Kanaga quickly became a highly skilled darkroom technician, developing a distinctly artistic aesthetic style inspired by the photography of Alfred Stieglitz. Over the next six decades, she produced beautifully composed images over a wide range of subjects, characterized by an abiding interest in the social conflicts of her time, including urban poverty, workers' rights, racial segregation, and prevailing inequality. To the Ends of the Earth
The photographs in To the Ends of The Earth span 12-years and depict the underrepresented and often unseen dynamics of the relationships between a lesbian, her straight mother, and her girlfriend. Jeanette Spicer initially began the project in 2012 when working towards her thesis and was interested in the boundaries and rules--particularly from a western perspective--of the interactions between children and their adult parents. She began to stage photographs and videos interacting with her mother in strange, intimate, disturbing and sometimes humoros ways. A few years later, it became clear to her that she was a lesbian, inspiring her to make the work from another perspective. Spicer felt that visual representations of lesbians interacting with straight parents were missing and she wanted to show what this relationship could look like.

Many Faces at the Rec.
Crammed packed with photos from the Princess May Recreation Ground a.k.a, the Rec., since 2020. The cover is an insight to what and how the pictures are included inside. I am surprised that it took me couple of years before I stepped into the Rec., but after I did, it was a go to place for walks and talks. Many visits and pass through, with n eye for documentation of changes, difference and beauty. My life's relationship with the Rec. started with dog walks, walking with Kes, and many of those we had. The book features Kes alot, because of her I took photos. So, looking at the photos it appeared that so much changes has taken place in the grounds. Thanks to Jean Andrews, lady luck touch came upon the Rec. The ground may have been named after the Princess, but it is "Queen Jean" who has added the beauty and splendour in the grounds, with those colourful and vibrant plants, and her silver hair. Both Mr Durrant and Jean have invested their heart, time and love for the Rec., and you will find them in the morning, doing their thing.

Dustin Pittman amassed an archive of 100,000 photographs chronicling the untamed corners of New York City's after-hours nightlife, from shadowy underground haunts to prestigious galleries and clubs. This "wish I was there" book unveils the vibrant pop culture scene of New York during the 1970s and '80s. Pittman was not just an observer but was an active participant in the places and events that shaped pop culture as we know it--the goings- on at Andy Warhol's Factory, the women's liberation movements of the 1970s, the VIP room at Studio 54, and the nascent punk scene at CBGB and The Mudd Club. Through Pittman's lens, readers are provided an intimate glimpse into the intersecting worlds of fashion and celebrity, music, art, and politics--from the glam rock underground and the golden age of disco to the ateliers of the world's most famous fashion designers such as Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, and Calvin Klein. Chicago in Color offers a new minimalist and colorful perspective of Chicago.  In 2019, photographer Judit Prat Mart穩 left behind her hometown of Terrassa, a city near Barcelona, and moved to Chicago to accept a position as part of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department at the University of Chicago. Upon arriving in Chicago, she endeavored to explore and understand Chicago from all its perspectives through her photography. Chicago in Color is the result of this exploration and a love letter to Chicago and to the people she has met in the city. A compilation of Latinx photography from the US-Mexico border that foregrounds the complexity and struggle of Latinx borderland communities in the face of widespread fearmongering The US-Mexico border has undergone dramatic changes over the past six decades, becoming increasingly industrialized, urbanized, and militarized, especially in the aftermath of 9/11 and the War on Terror. Mainstream and conservative news coverage has often reinforced or exacerbated such developments, characterizing the border as out of control and describing migrants in derogatory terms, in the process fueling xenophobic sentiment. A foil to this reductive and dehumanizing narrative, this presentation of Latinx photography offers more nuanced portrayals of life in the borderlands. Ranging from the 1970s to the 2020s, images by Louis Carlos Bernal, Graciela Iturbide, and Laura Aguilar, as well as emerging artists such as Ada Trillo, Guadalupe Rosales, and Miguel Fern獺ndez de Castro display alternative photographic vocabularies with regard to place, identity, and race. With subject matter spanning from intimate domestic portraits and youth counterculture to border crossings and clashes involving Border Patrol, this richly illustrated volume also features scholarly essays and new work by fronteriza poet Natalie Scenters-Zapico, providing a timely new perspective on life in this fraught and misunderstood region. Kembra Pfahler
Iconic rockstar and performance artist Kembra Pfahler's life in pictures. Original New York City icon Pfahler has terrorized and tantalized audiences since her arrival in the Lower East Side in the early 1980s. Originally associated with the Cinema of Transgression, Pfahler supported her films with work at an independent porn studio. In the 1990s, she launched The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, a rock band associated with Kiss, Alice Cooper, and White Zombie. Nude and covered in paint, with blackened teeth and bouffant hair, Pfahler developed a reputation for wild performance that reached far beyond the Lower East Side. Elements of Kabuki theater, surfing, bugs, and giant sharks from her legendary shows were later repurposed for performance art. Beginning in the early 2000s, Pfahler titillated gallery-goers with openings featuring dozens of painted women, butt-prints, and performances involving endurance and strength. With galleries including Real Fine Art, Deitch Projects, and The Hole, Pfahler created a visual lexicon incorporating occult imagery, bondage, and challenging forms of femininity. Through teaching, activism, and performance art, Pfahler serves as a mentor to students, and in recent years, a muse to designers including Rick Owens, Casey Cadwallader, and Alessandro Michele. Collecting four decades of ephemera, performance documentation, road pictures, and more, the book celebrates Pfahler as a countercultural star.
