Crossing
Sal Taylor Kydd's book of photographs and poetry, Crossing, takes us on a meditative journey, exploring the islands of the coast of Maine in Penobscot Bay. Through her delicate vignettes, she explores how the history of these islands lives on in the land and in the remnants of what we leave behind, noting how our sense of what has gone before, is intensified and palpable in these isolated settings.
Hong Kong Shifts
From sampan ladies and bamboo scaffolders to street cleaners, fishermen, security guards and market vendors - these workers form the backbone of the fast-paced metropolis of Hong Kong, yet they are often overlooked or taken for granted. Looking beyond the glamorous harborfront, neon-lit downtown and dramatic skyline, Hong Kong Shifts explores the back alleys to meet and learn from the individuals who work tirelessly to keep the city ticking. These are stories and portraits of resilience, wisdom, positivity and strength from the streets of Hong Kong. Hong Kong Shifts is a social impact storytelling platform with a mission to promote kindness, empathy and connection in our living and working environments. At the core of our project is the belief that storytelling is a powerful tool to engage, move and inspire - and, ultimately, to build bridges between diverse communities in the city that we call home.
Canadian Photographs
"Splendid. This monumentally intimate collection journeys into the diverse soul of the nation. Moments of wit and affection contrast with an austere and formal observation of the human desire to settle, celebrate, and survive. A joyous and inspired book full of moments that are oddly resonant and deeply moving."--Atom Egoyan A subversive look at the liminal locations and transitional moments that make up the Canadian unconscious and the Not-So-True North. In this unvarnished look at Canada, renowned photographer Geoffrey James directs his gaze to the in-between spaces and forgotten places that resist the idea of a cohesive national identity. With an equable eye, James documents the ephemeral and the monumental: a demolition derby in Quebec, how an inmate at Kingston Penitentiary has decorated his cell, the Dickensian side door of Massey Hall in Toronto. The photographs in this collection celebrate the everyday while meditating on the issues James's adopted home faces: the bifurcation of rural and urban, rapid growth and increasing inequality, and its journey toward truth and reconciliation. Linked by views taken from train windows from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, James's unofficial portrait of Canada brings into sharp relief the unfinished business of the nation as it lurches into the next century. Canadian Photographs includes a conversation between the photographer and Peter Galassi, former Chief Curator of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art.
Coastal Worlds
Coastal worlds are variable, rich spaces and places of cultural heritage, leisure and development. In this book we offer a glimpse into anthropological research on coastal and intangible cultural heritage in four countries: South Africa, Namibia, Lamu (Kenya) and Seychelles. The book shares the voices and images of people encountered between 2022-2024. Rosabelle Boswell composed the text and poetry in the book. For her, island and coastal places, offer a poetics and politics that recognizes transmaterial and decolonial relations with the sea. Cultural heritage finds expression in tattoos, boats, food and art. These complex layers of human relations with the sea are sensitively articulated by graphic artist and designer, Rebecca Hayter, fellow anthropologist, Jessica Thornton and photographers: Francois du Plessis and Laetitia Bosch.

Beyond Fear
A diagnosis of cancer may be one of the most difficult pieces of news anyone could hear. From one moment to the next, life-changing. The beginning of a long journey whose destination cannot be predicted. While the stages of treatment may be similar for many patients, each person's response will be different. Cancer infiltrates, not just bone and tissue, but the entire lives of patients and their families. Caroline Seymour's photographs bear witness to what had to be endured by their subjects. Challenging though some of them may be, the position of an onlooker is a privileged one. The intention is not to sensationalise, but to show the beauty in these primal wounds within this most human and desperate of situations, as well as the skill, dedication and compassion of the doctors attempting to heal them. The photographs are juxtaposed with details of paintings and sculpture from UK national collections which place the work within a broader context. The religious references are not incidental; they are significant in that they emphasise both the humanity of the patients and their suffering. These photographs celebrate the beauty of the human body, of the art of surgery, of the care given by the surgeons to cure a deadly disease. They are testament to the courage and integrity of all involved.
Consuelo Kanaga
Consuelo Kanaga (1894-1978) was one of the pioneers of modern American photography. Beginning her career in 1915 as a photojournalist for the San Francisco Chronicle, Kanaga quickly became a highly skilled darkroom technician, developing a distinctly artistic aesthetic style inspired by the photography of Alfred Stieglitz. Over the next six decades, she produced beautifully composed images over a wide range of subjects, characterized by an abiding interest in the social conflicts of her time, including urban poverty, workers' rights, racial segregation, and prevailing inequality. She became especially known for her emotional and introspective portraits of African Americans, which combined modernist formal technique and radical documentary commentary.Featuring two hundred photographs from the collection of the Brooklyn Museum, this substantial new appraisal of Consuelo Kanaga's work establishes her place as one of America's most vital twentieth-century photographers.Published to accompany a major touring exhibition from 2024-2026 at Fundaci籀n MAPFRE, Barcelona; Fundaci籀n MAPFRE, Madrid; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and Brooklyn Museum, New York.
Faces of Punk
FACES OF PUNK is a photo-gallery, a collection of standouts from more than 15 years of interviewing and photographing radicalized youth on both sides of the Atlantic. If it is a "political statement," its politics are those of inclusion, of universality. Anthropologist and journalist Peter J. Nebergall, PhD, author of HARD CORE: MARGINALIZED BY CHOICE, VIOLENT SOCIETIES, SHEHARAZADE, THE COLOR OF HIS COAT, GUERRILLA ANTHROPOLOGY, LOST AND FOUND, FROM PICTOGRAPHIC TO COMPUGRAPHIC, and OUTERLOPER, has assembled an all- color collection of images that highlight Punk humanity. These are not radical fire-breathers. These are not dangerous subversives, or criminals, or pedophiles, and your grandchildren are quite safe. So is your wallet. Come have a look. What jumps out is not strangeness (what is "strangeness," in the days of Enron?) but humanity. That is something we all need to remember.
To the Ends of the Earth
The photographs in To the Ends of The Earth span 12-years and depict the underrepresented and often unseen dynamics of the relationships between a lesbian, her straight mother, and her girlfriend. Jeanette Spicer initially began the project in 2012 when working towards her thesis and was interested in the boundaries and rules--particularly from a western perspective--of the interactions between children and their adult parents. She began to stage photographs and videos interacting with her mother in strange, intimate, disturbing and sometimes humoros ways. A few years later, it became clear to her that she was a lesbian, inspiring her to make the work from another perspective. Spicer felt that visual representations of lesbians interacting with straight parents were missing and she wanted to show what this relationship could look like.
Pillar to Post
Pillar to Post focuses on the vibrant and resilient Traveller and Gypsy communities across the UK and Ireland. Wright was first drawn to photograph this community after hearing about a relative who was from Irish Traveller heritage but denounced her heritage and past when she married. Wright wanted to learn more and was shocked by the open prejudice towards this community, wanting to tell the real story of the people he met and counter the misrepresentative media portrayal.

A star in her day and one that continues to captivate the world, Monroe's multifaceted persona is brilliantly captured through Arnold's lens in this revised and redesigned edition of the 1987 publication, Marilyn Monroe: An Appreciation. Including newly discovered and restored photographs in color and in black and white, alongside insightful commentary, Eve Arnold takes us on a photographic journey of Monroe's life. A detailed biography in Arnold's own words allows a rare glimpse into the stories behind the photographs and her unique relationship with Monroe. Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa and the Clothes She Wears is a celebration of the superstar's biggest fashion moments. Written by fashion journalist Scarlett Conlon, this latest addition to the bestselling series is a must-have for fans and fashionistas. Dua Lipa has enjoyed a sensational rise to the peak of pop stardom. Her infectious disco-influenced hits have scored billions of plays on Spotify - yes, billions! - and her sharp fashion choices have turned heads across the entertainment industry making her an international style icon. Born in London, Dua was tenacious in her pursuit of musical success, kickstarting her career by posting chart-topping covers to YouTube in her late-teens. By her early twenties, she had already won an armful of awards, including BRITs and Grammys. It wasn't long before the fashion industry took note. Now a regular on the covers of American Vogue, Rolling Stone, Elle Magazine, and recently Time Magazine as one of its most influential people of 2024, she has collaborated with Donatella Versace on her own collection and was asked by Anna Wintour to be a co-host of the annual Met Gala in 2023. The same year, her soundtrack to Barbie, her acting debut in the film, and her subsequent red-carpet appearances won her a new legion of new followers around the world while her headlining Glastonbury set in 2024 sealed her place as one of the world's most celebrated hitmakers and style icons. "A true style icon is not just someone who dresses well, but someone who exudes personality, charisma, and authenticity with it," says author Scarlett Conlon. "Dua Lipa is a definitive example of this; she's a self-made superstar whose authentic approach to everything, from her music and philanthropic endeavors, shines - and that is no better reflected than in the clothes she wears. She has been a prolific presence in the music and fashion industry over the last few years, from working with top fashion houses to championing rising stars. Delving into her collaborations, style signatures, and standout looks for this celebration of her style revealed the true extent of her role-model status."

Many Faces at the Rec.
Crammed packed with photos from the Princess May Recreation Ground a.k.a, the Rec., since 2020. The cover is an insight to what and how the pictures are included inside. I am surprised that it took me couple of years before I stepped into the Rec., but after I did, it was a go to place for walks and talks. Many visits and pass through, with n eye for documentation of changes, difference and beauty. My life's relationship with the Rec. started with dog walks, walking with Kes, and many of those we had. The book features Kes alot, because of her I took photos. So, looking at the photos it appeared that so much changes has taken place in the grounds. Thanks to Jean Andrews, lady luck touch came upon the Rec. The ground may have been named after the Princess, but it is "Queen Jean" who has added the beauty and splendour in the grounds, with those colourful and vibrant plants, and her silver hair. Both Mr Durrant and Jean have invested their heart, time and love for the Rec., and you will find them in the morning, doing their thing.

Epicly Later'd
The best of the celebrated blog Epicly Later'd, Patrick O'Dell's intimate photo-diary dedicated to documenting the adventure and mayhem of the 2000s NYC skate/music/downtown scene. In 2004, well before the advent of social media as a global phenomenon, photographer Patrick O'Dell launched the celebrated blog Epicly Later'd. Dedicated to documenting the adventure and mayhem of the NYC skate/music/downtown scene, the site distinguished itself with its offhand wit, its irreverent cast of characters, and an intimate photo-diary format years ahead of its time. Nearly two decades later, the impact of O'Dell's work can be appreciated in full: its influence is now apparent across photo, art, and skate culture, and the original photographs still astonish. Compiled by O'Dell and editor Jesse Pearson, Epicly Later'd collects the best of the blog into a body of work that's evocative, funny, and wildly compelling."Wayward youth and joy and oblivion--here are all the moments I remember and many that I don't! Patrick's exacting eye for the fractured beauty in our shared chaos captured it all." - Chlo禱 Sevigny

In this classic photo book, he captured the hotel's eccentric, bohemian denizens--both famous and obscure-- in the spaces where they lived. An essay by legendary New York newsman Pete Hamill, as well as texts by Chelsea residents including William S. Burroughs, Arthur C. Clarke, and Warhol superstar Viva, complemented Edinger's memorable portraits. Now this highly sought-after volume--winner of the Leica Medal of Excellence--is back in print for the first time in decades, with additional photos from Edinger's archives; a new foreword by writer and actress Alexandra Auder, who grew up in the hotel; and a new appreciation by Fred Ritchin, the noted writer on photography.

Illuminating Nature
Jon Reynolds is a seeker. As a child, he spent countless hours searching for the source of the creek on his grandfather's Central Kentucky farm. In adulthood, he has spent more than a decade traversing the United States in search of the perfect shot. For Reynolds, photography is a pursuit of love: for the mountains and rivers, sunrises and sunsets, the stars and the moon in the night sky. In Illuminating Nature, his mesmerizing photographs--waves crashing on Acadia's Boulder Beach, the icy expanse of the South Dakota Badlands, a solar eclipse tracking above Arches National Park--invite the viewer to share in this admiration. Complete with the photographer's reflections on the peace we find in nature, the importance of planning and equal power of serendipity, and his tips for getting that photo, Illuminating Nature is a testament to seeking to understand and illuminate the beauty that surrounds us all.
In the Beginning
Known for his monumental painting and installations, the internationally celebrated artist Anselm Kiefer's works are marked by a constant questioning of history and collective memory. Born in Germany two months before the Nazi capitulation in 1945, Kiefer's reflections on postwar identity, loss, and shared experience, nourished by myths and literature, create an unparalleled breadth of imagery. The use of photography as both practice and source material is a little-known aspect of Kiefer's art that has played a central role throughout his career. In the Beginning presents over one hundred and thirty works charting the artist's relationship with photography and his investigations into what images reveal.
Peter Lindbergh. Dior. 40th Ed.
Peter Lindbergh photographed Dior's most exceptional muses, Marion Cotillard and Charlize Theron among them, and signed campaigns for Lady Dior and J'Adore with his inimitable style. Throughout his career, the photographer was one of the house's closest collaborators. This final book was an original cocreation that was close to the artist's heart--and to ours.Seventy years of Dior history projected against the effervescence of Times Square, New York: this was the concept behind Lindbergh's project, extraordinary both in scope and dimension, for which Dior, in an unusual move, allowed an unprecedented number of priceless garments to be taken from its vaults in Paris and shipped across the Atlantic. The result is electric. Amid the frenzy of Times Square, Alek Wek glows in the immaculate 1947 Bar suit, the storied ensemble that launched the House of Dior. In snatches of street scenes, models Saskia de Brauw, Karen Elson, and Amber Valletta flit through crowds and scaffolding, are reflected in building fa癟ades, and draped in haute couture, from pieces hand-sewn by Christian Dior to more recent designs by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Lindbergh's trademark monochrome and color photographs masterfully highlight the intricacies, silhouettes, and textures of each garment.Lindbergh himself is present in every aspect of this publication designed by his long-time collaborator and friend Juan Gatti. This volume features 165 never-before-published images from the shoot, including an introduction by Martin Harrison, and pays homage to Lindbergh's profound relationship with the Parisian House by curating more than 100 of his photographs of Dior creations, from haute couture to ready-to-wear, men's and women's, originally published in some of the world's most prestigious magazines such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. A breathtaking tribute to two pillars of fashion and photography and their timeless collaborations.
Mo Yi
Mo Yi is a photographic artist with a career spanning nearly forty years, from the 1980s to today. This retrospective contextualizes his work within the evolution of contemporary art following reform and opening in China in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution. Working in a documentary tradition, but building on and reinterpreting the meaning of "documentary," Mo Yi's practice is exemplified by experimentation. Regularly creating work in distinct series, he has continually tested ways of extending the boundaries of the medium and his own personal expression. This publication, supported by his first exhibition outside of China, surveys Mo Yi's experimentation in photographic production and performance over the course of his career. Organized into five chronological chapters that mark the milestones of Mo Yi's journey as an artist, each introduced by Holly Roussell, the book presents the key projects and series, created through an era of great change in China. A restless innovator of photographic practice and form, Mo Yi has combined photography of daily life with the exploratory and performative processes for which his work has become renowned, shifting from the dynamic black-and-white images of his earlier practice to the vivid red that becomes a recurring motif in his later color work. With text contributions from Christoph Wiesner, director of Les Rencontres d'Arles, and Philip Tinari, director of UCCA, this book will introduce one of China's most important, yet virtually unknown, artists to international audiences for the first time.
Her2
Unable to find imagery that was relatable and authentic about a young family navigating cancer, photographers Anna and Jordan Rathkopf turned the camera on each other and themselves after Anna's diagnosis at the age of 37 with an aggressive form of breast cancer. HER2 is an ongoing visual conversation told through the utterly unique dual perspective of the experience as a husband- and-wife team, showing both the ways in which there is a deep bond in shared survival while also highlighting their parallel, isolated traumas amidst layers of grief and joy.The Rathkopfs' project includes intimate photographs taken at home, in hospital settings, and with their son, providing a raw look at how a chronic serious diagnosis impacts every aspect of life - relationships, parenting, marriage, work and childhood. These images offer a fuller picture of the emotional and daily realities of illness, from the perspective of the diagnosed, the caregiver and the child, inviting viewers to witness and understand the complexity of survivorship, vulnerability, and resilience.
Class of 2024
Class of 2024 is a unique and deeply individual look into the future of photography, showcasing the work of ten students or recent graduates from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).Introduced in their own words, and illuminated by essays from established writers, curators, and editors, their photographs cross genres--from portraits to landscapes, fashion commissions to private projects, collages to film stills--and offer up ten very different yet equally compelling and imaginative ways of looking at the world today, in all its complexity.Willfully subjective and guided only by the strength of the creativity within its pages, this book, published to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of publishing house Thames & Hudson, aims to capture a moment in time, support new talent, and inspire lovers of photography, as Thames & Hudson has set out to do since it was founded in 1949.
The Naked Truth About Nudism
1930s Britain was a hotbed of utopian ideals in which William Welby, an advertising manager, was drawn to the burgeoning nudist movement.Welby's quest for understanding culminated in the landmark publication Naked and Unashamed, a groundbreaking exploration of nudism by a British author, the success of which encouraged him to write two more seminal books on the subject: The Naked Truth about Nudism and It's Only Natural. All three books offer a fascinating insight into aspects of British society and culture before the upheavals of World War II and the dramatic changes that followed. This volume has a foreword by Brian Curragh, archivist at British Naturism.
Things Every Photographer Should Know
Since its invention in the early 19th century, photography has been an essential means of documenting the world and the people, places, and things that comprise it. With the advent of the handheld camera and then the smartphone, people of all ages have been able to experiment with photography, making this arguably one of the most commonly used creative mediums in the world.THINGS EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER SHOULD KNOW will introduce you to the artistic elements of photography, including composition, posing, and color theory. It will also walk you through technical elements such as lenses, depth of field, exposure, and focusing techniques. While each of these will be addressed separately throughout this book, remember that successful photography brings all these factors together simultaneously; you will think as both artist and scientist when practicing your craft. In addition to the basic strategies needed for capturing beautiful photographs, this guide will introduce you to different genres within photography, such as landscape photography, long-exposure photography, and portraiture. As a photographer, you don't need to confine yourself to a single genre unless you prefer to do so. Many photographers pursue their images in diverse settings and across multiple genres. When you're starting out, it's a good idea to try them all. Through experimentation and experience, you will eventually find the types of photography that most appeal to you and your artistic vision.
Dustin Pittman
Dustin Pittman amassed an archive of 100,000 photographs chronicling the untamed corners of New York City's after-hours nightlife, from shadowy underground haunts to prestigious galleries and clubs. This "wish I was there" book unveils the vibrant pop culture scene of New York during the 1970s and '80s. Pittman was not just an observer but was an active participant in the places and events that shaped pop culture as we know it--the goings- on at Andy Warhol's Factory, the women's liberation movements of the 1970s, the VIP room at Studio 54, and the nascent punk scene at CBGB and The Mudd Club. Through Pittman's lens, readers are provided an intimate glimpse into the intersecting worlds of fashion and celebrity, music, art, and politics--from the glam rock underground and the golden age of disco to the ateliers of the world's most famous fashion designers such as Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, and Calvin Klein. Pittman was witness to such rising stars as Blondie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The New York Dolls, and Roxy Music, as well as seminal cultural figures including Raquel Welch, Truman Capote, Diana Ross, Tina Chow, Brooke Shields, Jerry Hall, Divine, and Liza Minnelli--all caught in spontaneous, unguarded New York moments. A vast majority are previously unpublished images of some of the most iconic and revered figures of the late 20th century, accompanied by firsthand observations and remembrances by Pittman. The book features an introductory essay offering an objective view of Pittman's work and importance as a chronicle of the music, art, and fashion scenes.

These are but three of the many lives of Lee Miller, intimately recorded here by her son, Antony Penrose. Featuring a selection of Miller's finest work, including portraits of her friends Picasso, Tanning, and Ernst, Penrose's tribute to his mother brings to life a uniquely talented woman and the turbulent times in which she lived.

Essays by scholars Amy Galpin, LouisHerns Marcelin, and Alpesh Kantilal Patel give context to the current situationof these trailer parks, which at first promised their occupants stability, affordable housing, and for many, a comfortable retirement. But developmentinitiatives, surging rent prices, and environmental hazards have disrupted thisdream. Waisman's images, collected over seven years, ruminate on worn corrugatedexteriors, cracked ceramic tile, and the looming construction of luxuryapartment buildings nearby. Anhomage to a way of life that is quickly slipping away, Sunset Coloniesraises urgent questions about the invisibility of mobile communities, theirhistories, and their potential futures. Waisman also emphasizes the strengthand resilience of people whose definition of home lies in the balance betweenmemory and encroaching reality. Together, the images and essays in this bookcreate a multilayered meditation on place, community, and dignity.

Kembra Pfahler
Iconic rockstar and performance artist Kembra Pfahler's life in pictures. Original New York City icon Pfahler has terrorized and tantalized audiences since her arrival in the Lower East Side in the early 1980s. Originally associated with the Cinema of Transgression, Pfahler supported her films with work at an independent porn studio. In the 1990s, she launched The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, a rock band associated with Kiss, Alice Cooper, and White Zombie. Nude and covered in paint, with blackened teeth and bouffant hair, Pfahler developed a reputation for wild performance that reached far beyond the Lower East Side. Elements of Kabuki theater, surfing, bugs, and giant sharks from her legendary shows were later repurposed for performance art. Beginning in the early 2000s, Pfahler titillated gallery-goers with openings featuring dozens of painted women, butt-prints, and performances involving endurance and strength. With galleries including Real Fine Art, Deitch Projects, and The Hole, Pfahler created a visual lexicon incorporating occult imagery, bondage, and challenging forms of femininity. Through teaching, activism, and performance art, Pfahler serves as a mentor to students, and in recent years, a muse to designers including Rick Owens, Casey Cadwallader, and Alessandro Michele. Collecting four decades of ephemera, performance documentation, road pictures, and more, the book celebrates Pfahler as a countercultural star.
Picturing the Border
A compilation of Latinx photography from the US-Mexico border that foregrounds the complexity and struggle of Latinx borderland communities in the face of widespread fearmongering The US-Mexico border has undergone dramatic changes over the past six decades, becoming increasingly industrialized, urbanized, and militarized, especially in the aftermath of 9/11 and the War on Terror. Mainstream and conservative news coverage has often reinforced or exacerbated such developments, characterizing the border as out of control and describing migrants in derogatory terms, in the process fueling xenophobic sentiment. A foil to this reductive and dehumanizing narrative, this presentation of Latinx photography offers more nuanced portrayals of life in the borderlands. Ranging from the 1970s to the 2020s, images by Louis Carlos Bernal, Graciela Iturbide, and Laura Aguilar, as well as emerging artists such as Ada Trillo, Guadalupe Rosales, and Miguel Fern獺ndez de Castro display alternative photographic vocabularies with regard to place, identity, and race. With subject matter spanning from intimate domestic portraits and youth counterculture to border crossings and clashes involving Border Patrol, this richly illustrated volume also features scholarly essays and new work by fronteriza poet Natalie Scenters-Zapico, providing a timely new perspective on life in this fraught and misunderstood region.
