Pilates` Return to Life Through Contrology
First published in 1945, Pilates' Return to Life Through Contrology contains the authorized, legal, edited, and original Library of Congress version of Joseph H. Pilates' and William J. Miller's first complete fitness writings. It details the exercises, poses, and instructions fundamental to the matwork developed by Joseph and Clara Pilates. Based on his concepts of a balanced body and mind, and drawn from the approach espoused by the early Greeks, these are the exercises that continue to sustain a worldwide revolution in fitness strategies and exercise techniques. Joseph Pilates has been nothing short of revolutionary in his impact on the world of fitness and exercise. Readers will learn and view the original 34 exercises that Pilates taught to his students, many of whom have become exercise gurus in their own right. These carefully designed exercises constitute the results of decades of scientific study and research into the variety of physical ills that upset the balance of body and mind.Practitioners of Pilates' forms and exercises in the 21st century continue to expand upon this earlier work by presenting a variety of creative new approaches involving circular movements, standing postures, and core strengthening exercises using props such as tubes, weights, poles, bands, magic circles, mini-balls, stability balls, foam rollers, and more. Now included in this Revised Edition are 18 additional pages of explanations of what has transpired since the original 1945 work, along with several photo/text sequences of the latest 21st-century enhancements in the Pilates world. There are new descriptive pages of text that first describe the fitness principles evolved from Pilates' original Contrology work. This is followed by detailed text describing 21st-century evolutionary developments that present the key dancers, choreographers, and leaders in the Pilates Studio and certifying organizations through the present. This section ends with a discussion of evolutionary props and apparatus developments, plus 21st-century sample exercises drawn from our larger new book, Pilates Evolution for the 21st Century. Following this section are three complete prop-based demonstration exercises that include both photographic sequences (four per exercise) and step-by-step instructions for 21st-century Pilates exercises using the magic circle, elastic resistance, and the small fitness mini-ball.

Let self-care become a way of living, not another task to complete.
AI, Anxiety, & Health for Women
Women today are navigating a health environment that often feels confusing, pressured, and opaque. Medical systems rely increasingly on automation, algorithms, and efficiency rather than explanation. Test results arrive without context. Appointments are rushed. Insurance decisions are delayed or denied by systems no one can clearly explain. Anxiety rises not because women are fragile, but because the systems they depend on offer little clarity or control. This book provides a steady guide for reducing anxiety inside modern health systems. It explains how uncertainty, waiting, and automated decisions strain the nervous system, and why women are often expected to absorb that stress quietly. Readers learn how to separate bodily signals from system behavior, prepare for medical appointments and results without spiraling, and make decisions from steadiness rather than fear. It also shows how women can use AI as a practical support tool for clarity and planning without sharing sensitive health information. By the end, women will feel more grounded, more informed, and less overwhelmed by systems that prioritize speed over understanding. No medical or technical background is required. This is a calm, realistic survival guide for women who want clarity, agency, and steadiness in a tightening American health environment.

This is the science of metabolic flexibility training-and it changes everything about how you eat, move, and recover. This book delivers a clear, research-driven guide to reshaping your energy system so it works for you, not against you. Instead of rigid rules or fad diets, it offers practical strategies for aligning nutrition and movement with how the body truly functions. You'll learn how to balance fasting vs fueling, use nutrient timing for workouts to your advantage, and apply resistance training for metabolism so you preserve lean muscle while burning fat. Inside, you'll discover: - How to improve insulin sensitivity and restore your body's ability to access stored energy - When performance nutrition timing matters most-and when it doesn't - Why carb cycling and strength training can expand your energy capacity without overcomplicating your diet - Simple methods to avoid over-fueling while still feeling strong, clear, and focused Designed for athletes, professionals, and anyone seeking lasting health, this book reframes metabolism as a trainable system rather than a number on a calorie counter. By the end, you'll hold a new model for energy use-one that helps you sustain performance, protect muscle, and achieve genuine metabolic health without fear, fatigue, or constant food obsession.

This book cuts through the noise with a clear, science-based, and compassionate approach to fitness for every stage of motherhood. Inside, readers will find everything needed to restore strength safely and effectively-from a practical postpartum fitness plan to proven pelvic floor exercises for moms, along with guidance on safe strength training postpartum and tailored pregnancy strength training guide strategies. Perfect for mothers who want clarity, safety, and results, this guide is a must-have companion for reclaiming strength on your own terms.
Recovery Is Training
Most people believe progress comes from pushing harder, lifting heavier, or logging more hours. But true strength, focus, and endurance are forged in the hidden hours between workouts. This book reveals why recovery for strength training is not optional-it's the most overlooked workout of all. Grounded in science yet practical for everyday life, it breaks down the physiology of rest and repair into clear, actionable habits. You'll discover how sleep for athletes functions as a nightly training plan, why simple mobility routines for recovery prevent injury better than any supplement, and how practices like active recovery workout sessions sharpen rather than stall progress. The book unpacks the myths of "no days off" culture and shows how to spot the warning signs of overtraining prevention before they derail months of effort. Along the way, it demystifies modern tools-from HRV recovery training trackers to the real benefits of sauna and cold plunge protocols-offering clarity on what truly works. Whether you're chasing personal records, training for longevity, or simply seeking to avoid nagging pain, this guide equips you with a repeatable framework for building resilience. By the final page, you'll understand how rest days aren't wasted days-they're where the real growth happens. You'll gain a practical blueprint for a rest day workout plan, a smarter approach to injury prevention exercises, and a philosophy of longevity training programs that ensures effort compounds instead of collapses. Stop treating recovery as an afterthought. Start treating it as the workout that makes every other workout count.
The Strength of Aging

The latest science reveals that muscle, bone, and energy remain remarkably responsive well into midlife and beyond-if trained with intention. This book is a roadmap for anyone ready to trade outdated myths for proven strategies that rebuild resilience after forty. At its core, it addresses the hidden threat of sarcopenia-the gradual loss of muscle that robs independence and vitality-and shows how strength training over 40 can reverse it. Through accessible guidance on resistance training for older adults, hormone balance, and nutrition, it reframes aging as a phase of growth, not decline. Inside, readers discover: - How to design a midlife workout program that fits real life without endless hours in the gym - Why building bone density exercises midlife protects against fragility and keeps everyday movement effortless - The role of hormone health and fitness in maintaining recovery, energy, and motivation - Evidence-based ways to fuel the body with the best protein for muscle over 40 without extremes or gimmicks - Insights from longevity fitness plans and global cultures where vitality thrives well into later decades Whether you're just starting or looking to push past frustrating plateaus, this book delivers a blueprint for functional strength after 40 that is sustainable, measurable, and empowering. By the final page, you'll see why building muscle after 40 is not only possible-it is essential for thriving in the decades ahead. This is not about chasing youth. It's about constructing durable strength-physical, mental, and emotional-that compels confidence today and safeguards independence for tomorrow.
Everyday Athlete
Most people think fitness lives in the gym, but true capability is measured in the everyday-how easily you lift, carry, climb, or move without fear of injury. This book redefines what it means to be fit, showing how ordinary actions can become powerful training tools for building lasting strength, mobility, and resilience. Instead of chasing numbers on machines, you'll learn to treat natural movement pattern training as the foundation of health. From mastering the loaded carry to reclaiming joint mobility, you'll see how real-life strength training not only makes daily tasks easier but also protects against the most common causes of pain and setback. With practical science and easy-to-follow progressions, the book makes injury prevention exercises and functional capacity accessible to everyone. Whether you're a busy professional, a parent juggling responsibilities, or someone determined to stay capable as the years pass, the approach is simple: embed fitness into life itself. Through outdoor workout plans, walking strength programs, and small shifts in how you handle daily routines, you'll develop what the ancients knew and modern gyms forgot-useful, transferable, lifelong strength. Nutrient Timing
A pastry at noon and the same pastry at midnight do not land in the same body. This book shows how aligning meals with your daily clock can unlock steadier energy, better sleep, and easier weight control-without rigid rules or exotic foods. It translates circadian nutrition into clear actions: a protein-first morning, smart midday starch, lighter evenings, and a workable fasting window schedule that fits real life. If you've tried to eat "healthy" and still feel wired at night or hungry at 10 p.m., timing-not willpower-may be the missing piece. - Learn the science and practice of nutrient timing and chrononutrition so the same foods work harder for you - Use time restricted eating sensibly, protecting sleep and metabolism instead of wrecking them - Dial in pre workout nutrition and recovery so training supports, rather than sabotages, appetite and rest - Discover the best time to eat carbs and why a morning protein breakfast changes the whole day - Apply the plan at home, on shift work, or while travelling, with simple scripts for eating out and resets after late nights Written for thoughtful readers who want clarity over hype, this is a practical system for meal timing for weight loss and performance that respects families, culture and calendars. If you're ready to treat time as a macronutrient, this field-tested approach will help you feel calm, hungry at the right times, and finally on your body's side.
The Gut-Emotion Connection
You sense it already: some days your feelings follow your fork. This book shows you how to make that link work for you-with a clear model, practical experiments, and meals you can actually cook. Discover how everyday choices tune the gut brain axis that shapes calm, focus, and resilience. Learn why most serotonin originates in the gut, how microbiome and mood interact through inflammation and the vagus nerve, and what to change first when afternoons crash into brain fog. Instead of fads, you will get a method: short, testable trials; "traffic-light" decisions; and simple templates that turn anti inflammatory eating and fibre for mental health into weeknight reality. This is for thoughtful readers who want evidence without evangelism-people managing stress, low mood, or anxious edges who prefer clear steps over slogans. Inside, you will: - run two-week "mood by menu" trials to see what genuinely helps you - stabilise energy by tackling blood sugar and irritability at breakfast - explore gentle uses of fermented foods while avoiding common pitfalls - design a pantry that quietly supports your nervous system even on busy days If you've wondered whether a Mediterranean diet depression protocol, a serotonin diet, or foods "for calm" could help, here is the grounded way to find out. You'll finish with a personal playbook for foods for anxiety and steadier emotions-no perfectionism required, just a kinder routine for your second brain and the mind it steadies.
Unboxed
Lee Jones is a Wirral-born author, Kitchen and Bathroom designer and supplier, and founder of UnboxedTogether Ltd - a movement built on lived experience, raw honesty, and the search for clarity in a noisy world. After years of burnout, exhaustion, and life on autopilot, Lee discovered that what he thought was a mental health breakdown was really a buildup - of additives, stimulants, and stress hiding in plain sight. When he was finally diagnosed with ADHD, the pieces began to fit. Food, focus, and emotional chaos were all connected.Driven by a mix of science, rebellion, and empathy, Lee rebuilt his life from the inside out - studying every label, testing every habit, and documenting the journey that became Unboxed - The Dirty Secret Hiding in Our Diet.Today, through his book, workshops, and the UnboxedTogether platform, he helps others "lift the fog," understand their own chemistry, and rebuild energy and focus in a world designed to drain both.Lee lives on the Wirral with his wife and children, where his story continues - proving that even when everything feels lost, clarity is never out of reach.
The Balance Blueprint
Stronger isn't always safer. Most bodies break down not at the biggest muscles, but at the small stabilizers that quietly keep every step, lift, and twist on track. This book reframes fitness around one idea: when balance and core stability come first, strength serves you longer, injuries happen less, and everyday life feels steadier. Built on clear biomechanics and practical coaching, it translates complex ideas into routines you can actually do at home or in the gym. You'll learn how your inner "anti-wobble" system works-and how to train it-through targeted core stability training, smart proprioception training, and real-world injury prevention workouts that protect ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders. The result is a grounded approach that replaces guesswork with a stepwise stability and mobility routine you'll keep. Who it's for: active adults who want to move with confidence, desk-bound professionals who feel stiff or "off," parents who lift and carry daily, athletes chasing durability, and anyone committed to aging well. If you've ever felt strong but strangely unstable-or worried about slips, missteps, or nagging pain-this is your missing pillar. Inside, you'll get: - Simple, evidence-based balance exercises for adults that scale from beginner to advanced - A practical joint stability program to safeguard vulnerable links and improve control under load - Clear core mechanics for beginners that build from breath and posture to integrated, functional patterns - At-home fall prevention exercises that translate to safer stairs, sidewalks, and sports - A sustainable functional training for longevity framework that fits busy schedules Expect better posture, smoother coordination, and the quiet confidence that comes from feeling steady in motion. This is the rare balance training book that is as readable as it is usable-designed to help you move without fear, lift without bracing for pain, and keep your independence for years to come.
The Energy Equation
Most people still believe the key to health and vitality lies in counting calories-but that old math misses the real story. What matters isn't how much you eat, but how well your body turns food into lasting energy. This book challenges the calorie myth and introduces a smarter, science-driven way to understand eating: food as fuel for your body's engine. Drawing on cutting-edge insights into macronutrient balance, mitochondrial health, and meal timing for energy, it reveals why two people eating the same number of calories can feel entirely different-one thriving with focus and stamina, the other trapped in fatigue and cravings. Instead of chasing diet trends, you'll learn to see food as part of an interconnected system where quality, timing, and synergy matter more than raw numbers. This is for anyone who's tired of quick-fix diets, mid-afternoon crashes, or the endless cycle of "good" and "bad" foods. Whether you're an athlete chasing performance, a professional battling brain fog, or someone simply seeking consistent vitality, this book shows how to build your own energy nutrition model without rigid rules. Inside, you'll discover: - Why metabolic flexibility is the hidden skill that determines how resilient your body really is - How to use circadian nutrition to align eating with your natural energy peaks - Simple ways to pair foods for better glycemic control and sharper focus - What your mitochondria need most to keep powering you at every stage of life By the end, you'll stop treating food as a number on a label and start treating it as the key to steady, reliable energy. This isn't about restriction-it's about fueling the life you want with clarity, strength, and purpose.
The Hidden Hunger
Feeling tired in a world full of food is not a moral failing-it is a design flaw. This book reveals why so many smart, busy people live with micronutrient deficiencies, the quiet crisis often called hidden hunger. With clear science and practical steps, it shows how to read your own signals, ask for the right tests, and fix what modern diets and routines quietly erode. You will learn to spot vitamin D deficiency symptoms that masquerade as low mood or winter fatigue; address iron deficiency without anaemia that drains focus and stamina; choose vitamin B12 sources for vegans without compromising your values; and navigate the promises and pitfalls of food fortification. Grounded in nutrition science for adults, the book translates dense research into simple moves you can repeat for life. - Build a personalised plan to restore iron stores, including how to fix low ferritin without guesswork - Understand dosing logic so you can decide the best vitamin D dose for season, skin, and lifestyle - See how personal choices connect to public health nutrition, and why that matters for your family and community If you want clarity without fads, this is your field guide to eating and supplementing with intent: fewer guesses, better labs, steadier energy. Read it to replace confusion with a plan-and to feel the difference where it counts, in the brain, bones, and days you can fully live.
The Personalized Diet
A banana spikes one person like cake and barely nudges another-yet most advice still treats us as clones. This book is your method for replacing rules with personalized nutrition grounded in measurable signals. It shows, step by step, how to use food and genetics, microbiome insights, and your own blood sugar response to build a way of eating that fits your body and your life. If you have tried every plan and still wonder, "What is the best diet for my body?", this is where the guessing ends. Inside, you will learn how nutrigenomics and the microbiome diet shape your energy, hunger, and long-term health-without the hype. You will run small, rigorous tests (with or without a CGM for diet) to see which meals work for you, why order and timing matter, and how to lower glucose after meals using simple, sustainable tweaks. The result is a personalised meal plan you can adapt anywhere: at home, travelling, or eating out. - Turn vague advice into a practical DNA diet framework you can actually use - Pair protein, fibre, and timing to steady curves and cravings - Build a durable routine that respects culture, budget, and real-world constraints This is not another doctrine-it is a clear, humane toolkit for readers who value evidence and autonomy. If you are seeking a serious nutrigenomics book that respects complexity but delivers everyday clarity, start here.
Eating for Focus
Your brain is hungry long before you feel inspired-and the difference between a sharp morning and a foggy one is usually on your plate. This book shows how everyday choices create the conditions for deep concentration and reliable memory, translating hard science into a week you can actually live. Inside, you'll learn the core levers of brain nutrition: stabilising blood sugar balance for focus, getting the right omega-3 for memory, staying ahead on hydration and cognition, and timing meals to your clock with meal timing circadian rhythm. It replaces vague advice with meal templates, shopping lists, and a workday nutrition plan you can test in days, not months. Expect practical answers to why you crash at 2 p.m., what to eat before study or a big meeting, and how to build low-effort, repeatable routines that keep attention steady. This is for students, knowledge workers, leaders, and parents who need thinking they can trust on demand. If you've tried cutting sugar, adding coffee, or skipping breakfast without consistent results, you'll discover how foods for concentration and low GI breakfast ideas can make clarity predictable. With an emphasis on evidence and cultural flexibility, it helps you design a personal cognitive performance diet that fits your life-no fads, no guilt, just the inputs a busy brain needs. - Learn what to eat, when to eat, and why it works - Build meals that support deep work, study, and memory - Keep your energy even without complicated rules Eat for the brain you want-one clear, focused day at a time.
Food for Stress
A jittery mind is not always a character flaw. Often it is the echo of meals that spike, deplete, and inflame-leaving your nervous system on edge and your thoughts in a rush. This book shows how to use foods for anxiety in a deliberate way: stabilising glucose, repleting magnesium for sleep and calm, lowering inflammatory tone with an anti-inflammatory diet for anxiety, and feeding the gut so the brain stops scanning for threat. You will learn when adaptogens for stress help, when they do not, and how to build low glycaemic meals for focus that keep energy steady through difficult days. With plain-spoken science and everyday kitchen tactics, it turns the gut brain axis diet from a trend into a repeatable routine-supported by omega 3 for anxiety and a few well-chosen ferments. Clear meal templates, shopping heuristics, and timing strategies make circadian eating for better sleep practical, even on a crowded schedule. - Understand nutrition for cortisol reduction without fads - Build a calm plate that works across cuisines and budgets - Create defaults for travel, restaurants, and stressful weeks For readers who have tried mindfulness apps and still feel wired, this is a calmer biology by design-through ordinary food, chosen and timed well.

Super Body
Are you ready to take your health into your own hands? Heal your microbiome and improve your shape and body composition with Dr. William Davis' revolutionary new book. Forget everything you've been told about dieting (from your doctor, the food industry, dietitians, and wellness influencers). You've been led down the wrong path, which has caused you to believe that calorie restriction, weight-loss drugs such GLP-1 agonists, and bariatric procedures are effective solutions for weight loss. They are NOT, nothing more than Ponzi schemes with upfront benefits, long-term disasters. Conventional weight-loss solutions are effective in the short-term but are plagued by serious problems, including virtually guaranteed weight regain over time. Muscle mass is the critical determinant of weight and provides vigor, youthfulness, and overall health. When we diet, lost muscle is regained as fat, leaving us in worse shape than before. In SUPER Body, Dr. William Davis, MD, bestselling author of Wheat Belly and Super Gut, reveals how we can restore our health and youthful contours by returning to ancestral nutrition practices, restoring beneficial microbes, and taking synergistic supplements. The solution to losing weight lies not in pharmaceuticals or procedures but rather in restoring factors lost from the modern human life experience, specifically microbes lost due to overexposure to antibiotics and other factors, and the restoration of nutrients lost due to misguided dietary advice. Complete with a three-week program to help kick-start your journey, and including easy-to-make recipes to enhance your efforts, SUPER Body will show you how to lose the weight naturally and permanently while restoring your youthful shape and body contours.
