So You Got F*cked Up
On April 4, 2022 Pete Harris rode his motorcycle to work for the first time. He didn't come home. This is his story of recovery. In his own words, he 'got fucked up.' Big time. He was hit and crushed by a car that failed to give way. More horrifying was that the driver drove over him, mistaking him for a median strip. Doctors at the scene gave him less than 3% chance of survival. Pete woke up five days later in Intensive Care in the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, some 300 kilometers away. He'd had two lifesaving surgeries on internal organs, a helicopter transfer to Newcastle in bad weather, surgery on a shattered pelvis, his spleen removed and shoulder surgery still to come. Pete doesn't think for a moment that his story is worse than others. Rather, he shares what he has learned in his progression from active PE teacher, father, and husband to a 'fucked-up shell of a human' and the actions and experiences that have led him out of the 'shitstorm'. It is more than a story. It is a plainly written supportive compilation of learnings aimed at others suffering something similar. Pete writes without jargon or gloss. There's swearing, stories, examples and, most importantly, descriptions of how his support network and he continue to work together. It's the book Pete wished he had when he woke that first day.

After the Cesarean...
This book opens up a new field of understanding and healing around caesarean sections. It offers a global perspective alongside profound therapeutic insights for the body and soul of women. How can we restore harmony in the bond between mother and child?More than one in five births worldwide is by caesarean section. Whether it is an emergency or a planned procedure, chosen or not, many mothers are left with a range of physical or emotional symptoms-sometimes a sense of loss, sometimes deep discomfort. What are the physical, emotional, energetic, and relational consequences of a caesarean birth-for both mother and child? How can we improve sensitivity in the skin, release tension in the scar or the body as a whole, and even address changes in skin tone? What wounds-visible or hidden-might this scar carry? And what of the father's experience in all of this?Is it possible to truly complete the birth process-even years later-and heal what may feel unfinished? What leads to a caesarean birth, and how might we avoid one or support a successful VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean)? What is the connection between birth and femininity? And how might healing the birth experience transform a woman's relationship to her femininity? Through his method of Global Scar Harmonisation, Adam-David Kanner offers thoughtful, compassionate answers to these questions and more. Drawing on over twenty years of experience as an osteopath working with women and families, he shares an integrative approach that guides readers towards healing, fulfilment, and reconciliation with their birth experience.Supported by moving testimonials, this holistic technique gently transforms the scar into a path of initiation-so that each woman may reclaim her power and find peace in her experience of motherhood.Adam-David Kanner is a registered osteopath (D.O.), trainer, and lecturer. For over fifteen years, he has developed a unique therapeutic approach to healing obstetric scars from caesarean sections and episiotomies (www.scarharmony.com). The foreword is written by Dr Michel Odent, renowned surgeon and obstetrician. A pioneer of respectful birth, he has long challenged conventional practices around medicalised childbirth.

Behind the I'm Fine
What does it really mean to be a man in the modern world? "I'm fine" is the typical male response to the simple question: How are you feeling? But it is not fine. Men's mental and physical health is taking a battering like never before; the image of a man is more distorted than ever before, and the meaning of what it means to be a man is more uncertain than ever before. This all despite years of attempting to help men to open up about their feelings and understand their behaviours. But men are killing themselves at shocking rates. They also account for the majority of addicts and die younger than women. Put simply, men, especially young men, have lost their identity in the world. This book reports the alarming statistics regarding men's physical and mental health and includes personal stories facing men today. Crucially, it offers practical and positive solutions to the growing crisis faced by males of all ages. For equality to continue to grow, we must accept that men have uniquely male problems that need to be recognised, acknowledged and addressed by businesses and the wider society health and includes personal stories facing men today. The Stimulated Mind
Boost mental sharpness today and prevent cognitive decline tomorrow, including Alzheimer's disease, with science-backed strategies that will extend your brain's longevity beyond what you thought was possible. "Dr. Tommy Wood has spent years at the intersection of neuroscience and performance, helping people build more resilient bodies and more durable minds. The Stimulated Mind is a hopeful and practical guide for building and maintaining brain health at every stage of life."--Dr. Kelly Starrett and Juliet Starrett, New York Times bestselling authors of Built to Move The most important part of the body, especially as we age, is our brain. So why aren't we taking the health of our brain as seriously as our heart and achy joints, particularly when people are struggling to focus every day, and dementia and Alzheimer's cases continue to rise? In The Stimulated Mind, Dr. Tommy Wood, a Formula 1 sports performance coach and neuroscientist specializing in lifelong brain health, dispels the myth that the brain is doomed to decline with age. Instead, by providing the right stimulus and building more "headroom"--the amount of mental function we have available to us--we can help our brain to adapt and develop. Dr. Wood explains that a brain that improves with age is the result not of expensive pills, far-off discoveries, or strict lifestyle "optimizations," but rather of actions within our control--diet, sleep, physical activity, social connection, and stress tolerance. Driven by how we use our brains on a daily basis, these modifiable factors come together in his groundbreaking "3-S" model that describes what a brain needs to thrive for a lifetime: Stimulation, Sleep, and Nutrient Supply. Packed with insights and actionable science drawn from Wood's research and experience as a physician, neuroscientist, and performance coach, The Stimulated Mind offers a path toward true cognitive longevity, ensuring that our brains perform at their best no matter what the coming years throw at us.

With misinformation rampant on social media and a dearth of trusted medical resources on the birth process, pregnant people feel left behind in a system that is failing them. Thirty-six percent of counties in America are labeled "maternity care deserts" where there is no or limited access to obstetric care--and it's only getting worse. We need a concise and comprehensive primer on the birth experience, whether that means a low-intervention birth or a complicated emergency c-section. In The Birth Book, OB-GYN hospitalist and educator Dr. Jennifer Lincoln delivers exactly that. Dr. Lincoln answers all your questions, big and small, about labor and delivery, providing crucial insight and understanding. Questions like: - What is "normal" labor? - What can I say no to?- What are my options if baby is breech?- How long does an induction take?- And many, many more. Backed by research and personal experience and including enlightening illustrations, The Birth Book gives you agency over your pregnancy and birth, along with context for the many choices you'll need to make. With Dr. Lincoln's help, readers will have an evidence-based resource at their fingertips for a better, safer, more informed birth.

Stranger in the Birth Room
Trauma-informed maternity care is essential for women who are survivors of childhood abuse. Pregnancy and birth can bring up long-suppressed memories and feelings that have implications for women's health and wellbeing as they become mothers. Welcoming a new baby into the family can challenge relationships and distort emotions following birth, affecting partners and bonding with their baby.Kathryn Gutteridge has spent her career as a midwife advocating for the needs of survivor women in maternity care, and this book is the result of that work. She explains how and why the needs of survivors must be taken into account, and shows that trauma-informed care can transform the experiences of women who might otherwise be further traumatised by the maternity care system.Drawing on the evidence base, personal experience, and the words of survivors themselves, this carefully conceived and written book will help all those who work in maternity to better understand the needs of survivors of childhood abuse in their care. For those clinicians who are themselves survivors, this book acknowledges the challenges they face and makes suggestions about how they might find solace in supporting women and their babies.

A Parent's Guide to Healthy Children
All good parents share a purpose: to protect their precious gift and raise vibrant, healthy, and happy children. Parents are their children's best advocates, and they must be able to make health decisions with confidence. Unfortunately, we live in a toxic world, and our children are getting sicker and sicker. Currently, more than half of them live with chronic conditions that negatively affect their quality of life--a fact strongly linked to a medical paradigm that emphasizes high-tech and pharmaceutical interventions over healthier options. If we are to turn this situation around--and make our children healthy again--parents clearly need a better way. A Parent's Guide to Healthy Children offers that better way, empowering new and expectant parents with gentle, natural, and holistic ways to promote their children's physical, mental, and emotional well-being--from preconception through early childhood. Readers will learn how to deal effectively with pregnancy discomfort, make evidence-based birth choices that do not induce trauma, choose health-promoting foods and supplements that provide optimal nutrition for their child's development, and eliminate or minimize hidden toxic exposures. Other topics that are vital to keeping kids' development on track include the importance of infant reflexes, how to promote and maintain the diversity of a child's microbiome, and how to spot "red flags"--early signs of immune or neurological dysfunction. Perhaps most importantly, this guide will help parents confidently navigate common childhood illnesses. That confidence means they will not be at the mercy of medical practitioners more concerned with "standard of care" than the health of the children in their care.
