Angioplasty of the ostium of the anterior interventricular artery
Stenosis of the ostial anterior interventricular artery (AIA) is a complex lesion posing several technical challenges to the interventional cardiologist for percutaneous revascularization. This book looks at the clinical and angiographic characteristics of patients who have undergone ostial AVI angioplasty, and their medium-term prognosis depending on the angioplasty technique used.Indeed, two techniques can be proposed to the patient: ostial stenting and crossover stenting, depending on the angiographic presentation of each patient. All in all, this book is a valuable aid to the clinician, helping him or her to make the best decisions and provide the best care, based on contemporary knowledge.
Malignant Cerebral Meningiomas
Grade III meningioma is a rare tumor accounting for 1.7% of all intracranial meningiomas. Three histological subtypes of malignant meningiomas exist: anaplastic, papillary and rhabdoid. The incidence of these meningiomas is higher in women in the 35-64 age group, whereas in the group of patients over 75, men are in the majority. Malignant meningiomas may be single or multiple in the context of NF2. Clinical presentation is variable. Radiological diagnosis is based on cerebral CT scan, but above all on cerebral MRI, which allows us to suspect a high-grade meningioma. A thoraco-abdomino-pelvic CT scan is sometimes necessary to assess the extent of the disease. Treatment is based on surgery, with the aim of removing as much of the meningioma as possible in order to relieve compression on nerve elements and minimize the risk of recurrence. Adjuvant treatment is discussed to improve the prognosis of these patients. Early and appropriate management is essential to guarantee a better quality of life and longer relapse-free survival.
MRI of the Musculoskeletal System
Knee problems are among the most common side effects. At worst, knee problems are accompanied by excruciating pain that interferes with daily activities, such as walking. Patients suffer from knee pain when bending the knee, putting weight on the knee, or at all hours of the day. If you are not sure what is wrong with your knee joint, using a diagnostic tool is a good starting point to pinpoint the problem. Fortunately, there are various treatments and methods for pain management that relieve or eliminate knee problems. An accurate diagnosis of the knee problem is the first step to relieve pain and get rid of this condition, if the knee discomfort is correctly diagnosed and the appropriate treatment is based on If this diagnosis is made, the pain will subside and the knee problem will not recur. The most common cause of knee pain recurrence is improper treatment that has not eliminated the root cause of the problem. Remember that visiting a doctor is the best way to accurately diagnose knee pain; First of all, the main cause of knee pain must be determined so that the doctor can recommend the best possible treatment.

Interjections in Ivorian
German is taught in several schools and universities in Ivory Coast. Particularly at university level, it has been observed that many students of German converse in German in their first year of studies, but without using the interjections of the target language. In their conversations, students repeatedly use interjections that are specific to their native languages and their linguistic environment. In this study, I tried to understand the psycholinguistic factors underlying this use. After conducting a survey with German students at the F矇lix Houphou禱t-Boigny University in Ivory Coast, it was found that the students were influenced by their mother tongues. The intention to make themselves understood to each other is also a reason for the 'inappropriate use' of interjections in their conversations. This study, which was carried out under the supervision of Professor Abo Justin Kouam矇, shows how our mother tongue has a great influence on the learning of a foreign language and, in addition, how culturally influenced interjections are.
The difficulties faced by women with breast cancer
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. From diagnosis to post-treatment, physical and psychological changes occur, influencing women's quality of life. The results of the related studies consisted of themes that identified the meaning of treatment and mastectomy in women's lives. Body image is related to how women see themselves during and after breast cancer. Quality of life can be influenced by the type of surgery; the longer the surgery, the greater the difficulties in upper limb functionality, and the greater the morbidity, the more damage to general health, physical, functional, cognitive and social functions. Care must be provided in a comprehensive manner, with multi-professional support, support from family and friends, and above all support from the patient. The family needs a very special view during this process so that they can understand all the stages of the illness that their loved one is undergoing at the time. With regard to the rights and laws that ensure the entire process of the illness.
Evaluation of screw treatment of calcaneal fractures in Gafsa
Calcaneal fractures account for 65% of tarsal bone fractures, but only 1 to 2% of fractures of the entire skeleton, and are intra-articular in 3/4 of cases. It often occurs in young adults after a fall from a high place, is painful and leads to significant disability. Displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACF) are the most common type. Open surgical treatment remains the method of choice. Screw fixation is a reliable means of fixation, with good results. The differences in therapeutic efficacy between cannulated screw fixation (CSF) and plate fixation remain unclear. Our aim was to study the functional and anatomical results of facial treatment of calcaneal fractures in the orthopedic department of the Gafsa regional hospital. We enrolled 58 patients (66 calcaneal fractures), 8 of whom had bilateral fractures, with an average age of 38 years (15-85 years). There were 9 women and 49 men (sex ratio M/F=5.44). There were 28 extra-thalamic fractures, 34 thalamic fractures and 6 double lesions (thalamic and extra-thalamic).
The Apothecary’s Wife
"A lively medical, scientific, and economic history."--Kirkus Reviews (Starred Review) Best Nonfiction Books of 2024, Kirkus Reviews A groundbreaking genealogy of for-profit healthcare and an urgent reminder that centering women's history offers vital opportunities for shaping the future. The running joke in Europe for centuries was that anyone in a hurry to die should call the doctor. As far back as ancient Greece, physicians were notorious for administering painful and often fatal treatments--and charging for the privilege. For the most effective treatment, the ill and injured went to the women in their lives. This system lasted hundreds of years. It was gone in less than a century. Contrary to the familiar story, medication did not improve during the Scientific Revolution. Yet somehow, between 1650 and 1740, the domestic female and the physician switched places in the cultural consciousness: she became the ineffective, potentially dangerous quack, he the knowledgeable, trustworthy expert. The professionals normalized the idea of paying them for what people already got at home without charge, laying the foundation for Big Pharma and today's global for-profit medication system. A revelatory history of medicine, The Apothecary's Wife challenges the myths of the triumph of science and instead uncovers the fascinating truth. Drawing on a vast body of archival material, Karen Bloom Gevirtz depicts the extraordinary cast of characters who brought about this transformation. She also explores domestic medicine's values in responses to modern health crises, such as the eradication of smallpox, and what benefits we can learn from these events.

Typhoid Mary
The riveting true crime tale from beloved chef and bestselling author Anthony Bourdain, originally published in 2001, centering deadly cook Mary Mallon-otherwise known as the infamous Typhoid Mary. By the turn of the twentieth century, it seemed that New York had put an end to the outbreaks of typhoid fever that had ravaged the city. That is, until 1904, when the disease broke out in a household on Long Island. Authorities suspected the family cook, Mary Mallon, of infecting the family through the food on their plates. But before she could be tested, the asymptomatic woman-soon to be known as Typhoid Mary-had disappeared. Proceeding to spread her pestilence from home to home across New York for years, Mary narrowly escaped the law until her arrest and institutionalization in 1907. After three years, she was released on the promise that she could never work as a cook again. So she disappeared once more, assuming countless aliases as she blazed a diseased path through New York, claiming countless lives in her wake. This is her story. Taking us through the seedy back doors of New York's kitchens circa 1900, Typhoid Mary uncovers the horrifying conditions that allowed for the deadly spread of typhoid over a decade and the life of the roguish woman who propelled it. Writing with his signature panache about his best subjects, rugged kitchens and their hardened chefs, Bourdain serves a feast for true crime fans and true Bourdain acolytes alike.

Gastric cancer and associated factors
With more than one million incident diagnoses and more than 600 thousand deaths worldwide, gastric cancer represents one of the most common malignant tumors. Due to its high frequency, it is considered a public health problem in many countries. This neoplasm is multifactorial; among the factors that increase the risk of suffering it are atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia, obesity, low consumption of fruits and vegetables, among others. An analytical cross-sectional study was carried out in a public hospital in Peru to determine the relationship between the aforementioned factors in relation to gastric cancer.

Through a comprehensive analysis of various molecular, genetic, and clinical factors, the study aims to enhance our understanding of disease progression and patient outcomes. By identifying specific markers associated with prognosis, such as gene mutations, protein expressions, or histopathological characteristics, researchers aim to improve risk stratification, treatment planning, and patient management. The summary outlines the key findings and implications of these prognostic markers, highlighting their potential to revolutionize personalized medicine approaches in combating Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
Spinal trauma in Goi璽nia/GO
With the advent of industrialisation and the growing increase in violence, bodily injuries from external causes have become a public health problem in both developed and developing countries. Among these injuries is spinal cord trauma (SCI), which is a sudden and unexpected event that has drastic consequences for the individual's health and can negatively affect their quality of life, as it is a limiting injury. It is in this context that this book provides an analysis of the clinical and epidemiological profile of 265 patients with SCI who were treated at a public hospital in Goi獺s. It invites the reader to identify the sociodemographic, etiological and clinical characteristics of the patients, as well as aspects related to the costs to the Unified Health System (SUS) in these cases. The book is aimed at health professionals. It presents data that can lead to efficient decision-making regarding the allocation of technical, human and financial resources in the management of SCI, as well as guiding strategies to control the main causes of spinal injury in the population.
Urinary tract infection in the elderly
Urinary tract infection in the elderly is a major public health problem, due to its high frequency and potentially serious consequences. It presents distinct clinical and therapeutic features, requiring a personalized approach. Atypical symptoms and frequent comorbidities complicate diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate management can reduce complications and improve quality of life in elderly patients.
Prevalence of celiac disease in cirrhosis
Hepatic impairment in CD represents a broad spectrum, ranging from moderate to severe hepatic dysfunction. It presents in two clinical forms: cryptogenic hepatopathy and dysimmune hepatopathy. Epidemiological studies have shown that the prevalence of CD in the cirrhotic population is higher than in the general population. It has also been shown that CD may be at the origin of chronic cryptogenic liver disease, which may improve after initiation of GFR even at the stage of cirrhosis.
The intestine, our second brain
This book is a guide to colon hydrotherapy, an ancient but unfortunately still little-known treatment. Colon hydrotherapy is a body-cleansing therapy which, without any discomfort or pain for the patient, enables a complete cleansing of the entire colon. Hidden, untreated internal problems manifest themselves as stiffening of the tissues, including the intestine. With hydrocolon, we can dissolve this hardening, so that the psychosomatic problem reappears because the organic manifestation is missing. What happens next is up to the patient. We therapists only make the connection between what the patient is complaining about, i.e. his real internal discomfort stemming from his suffering state of mind, his emotionality contained within and what all this generates in his physical, mental and psychological discomfort. The key to stress, anxiety and tension lies in the belly. In fact, there's a veritable second brain here, with important functions that reflect on the whole organism, regulating emotions, memories, pleasure and well-being.
The Pediatric Residency Curriculum
Objectives: to involve pediatric teachers and residents in an experiment to evaluate their theoretical and practical training in the current curriculum, in order to improve certain aspects of this reform of the third cycle of medical studies in pediatrics.Study population and methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, descriptive survey of pediatric residents and teaching staff at university hospitals. A predominance of women was noted. Thirty-two teachers (80%) used audiovisual means in their training. Nearly 90% of residents said they had benefited from lectures. Conclusion: Overall, residents and teachers tend to agree with current learning and assessment methods.
CMV infections in kidney transplant patients
Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the herpes viridae family, is recognized as one of the most significant viral pathogens following organ transplantation. Although generally benign in immunocompetent individuals, this virus represents a serious threat to immunocompromised patients, particularly kidney transplant recipients. The main aim of this study is to determine the frequency of CMV infection in correlation with epidemiological characteristics, while assessing its impact on renal graft rejection.Renal transplantation, although a major advance in the treatment of end-stage renal failure, exposes patients to an increased risk of viral infections, particularly CMV. Because of the need for immunosuppression to prevent graft rejection, kidney transplant patients become more vulnerable to opportunistic infections such as CMV. Reactivation or primary infection with CMV can have serious consequences, ranging from subclinical viremic disease to severe forms such as CMV pneumonia or colitis.
A Manager’s View of Public Health Services
The Covid-19 pandemic caused a major crisis, paralyzing activities in various fields worldwide. The aim of this study was to understand the Kinshasa population's refusal to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic, and to propose a managerial strategy capable of gaining acceptance of the vaccine with the aim of eradicating this viral pandemic. The overall declared objective was to contribute to the fight against COVID 19, with the aim of bringing the pandemic to an end. In an attempt to understand general vaccine refusal behaviour, the main research question revolved around the explanatory factors behind the population's refusal of the Covid-19 vaccine in the provincial city of Kinshasa. Based on this question, the hypotheses put forward included the following: the absence of strategic and operational management is not conducive to the implementation of prevention-related activities; the population's resistance to vaccination is directly linked to the occurrence of MAPI; the sidelining of community leaders at various levels has accentuated the population's refusal of vaccines; social networks have had a major impact.
Compulsory Notification of Violence in Primary Health Care
This work was motivated by my experience as a resident social worker in the Integrated Multiprofessional Health Residency Programme (RIMS) at the Hospital de Cl穩nicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA) in the field of Primary Health Care. This experience influenced the research proposed in this paper, which aims to bring to light the issue of violence against vulnerable groups, which is often invisibilised and/or 'hidden' when not reported. In the case of children, adolescents, women and the elderly, legislation makes it compulsory to fill in the compulsory notification form for violence: The notification of violence has been made compulsory by various legal acts and regulations such as the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA), established by Law no. 8. 069/1990; Law No. 10.778/2003, which establishes compulsory notification of violence against women; and Law No. 10.741/2003, which establishes the Statute for the Elderly (BRASIL, 2011).In the health sector, violence cannot be omitted or naturalised; on the contrary, care and protection must go hand in hand in this sector too.
Being born in the 21st century
Obstetric care in Brazil is a widely discussed problem, due to the absurd rates of caesarean sections and the lack of respect for ethical and legal standards and the recommendations of international and national organisations regarding care in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle. This book highlights the fact that there is no scientific explanation for the abusive increase in caesarean sections and that the socio-demographic profile of women from higher social classes influences the number of caesarean sections. Therefore, actions and interventions are needed to minimise the number of caesarean sections without obstetric indication, suggesting a greater involvement of obstetric nurses in labour management, allowing the active participation of women, complying with national and international guidelines and focusing on the humanisation of obstetric care.
Acupuncture and Probiotics for Constipation
Of all the complementary therapeutic systems, acupuncture enjoys the greatest credibility. Its healing effect has been widely recognised and accepted worldwide by the international medical community. Probiotics are live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate quantities, confer health benefits on the host. Constipation is a gastrointestinal disorder with a high prevalence worldwide. It affects everyone from newborns to the elderly. The aetiology is multifactorial and causes physical and psychological suffering.
Group Dynamics
Explain the stages of group development, the important roles that members play in a workgroup, what makes a workgroup successful, and the differences between groups and teams. List the prerequisites for a group activity, explain how to solve problems and make decisions in groups, and identify a few possible issues with group work and how to avoid them. Apply group dynamics principles in educational settings. The game "Fish Bowl" is used to discuss group dynamics; participants assume the roles of an activity group (fish) and an observer group (bowl), and the principles of group activity and participant roles are elicited based on the group activity. Because it enables students to develop into successful communicators, leaders, professionals, lifelong learners, and clinicians, group work is crucial to the medical education process. It is essential that medical students learn these things in a better method these days since if they study them independently, they will remember the subject for the rest of their lives. While they can help, teachers should not take on the majority of the work in group assignments.

Medicinal Plants and Diabetes Mellitus
This book presents current knowledge on the use of herbal medicines in the treatment of skin alterations in diabetes, whose chronic complications are responsible for the high morbidity and mortality of the disease. Xerosis, an abnormal dryness of the skin that is very common in diabetic patients but not restricted to them, if left untreated can lead to the formation of fissures (small cracks in the calloused skin of the feet, caused by the linear loss of the epidermis/dermis), which are a gateway to infections. As healing in diabetic patients is a complicated process due to high glycaemia, preventing the formation of fissures is of great importance and can be achieved by treating xerosis by moisturising dry skin. This prevents the complications of 'diabetic foot', which can lead to lower limb amputations. The scientific studies reported here identify and prove the efficacy of the use of natural products in aiding the repair and healing process of these lesions, through their antiviral, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, healing and cell regenerating activities, which are important in the treatment of xerosis and skin cracks.
Leprosy
The book covers leprosy cases in one of Brazil's states. In the period observed, 13,648 cases of leprosy were recorded, with a predominance in the 40-69 age group. The prevalence exceeds 16 cases / 10,000 inhabitants. The univariate analysis for children under fifteen showed positive spatial autocorrelation, and the clusters showed areas with a high number of records. The illiteracy rate was positive, as was the Gini coefficient. The income variable and demographic density resulted in spatial independence. It can therefore be concluded that the state of Mato Grosso accounts for a significant proportion of leprosy cases in Brazil.

The Development of a Comprehensive Protocol Designed for Type II Diabetes Prevention for Indigenous People in Alberta, Canada
Doctoral Thesis / Dissertation from the year 2024 in the subject Medicine - General, grade: 100.00, language: English, abstract: This research analyzed Indigenous health and lifestyle surveys and health data from the Canadian government on Indigenous people in Alberta, Canada. The information from the surveys and health data demonstrate concerns about the rising health implications and risk factors that lead to type II diabetes within Alberta's Indigenous population. This information will create a basis for developing a six-session educational protocol encompassing a detailed diabetes prevention plan that will lead to health improvement for Indigenous people with type II diabetes. The research method was a literature review design that used existing survey data. It began with a description and analysis of existing conditions, behaviors, and characteristics derived from the survey data regarding type II diabetes within the Indigenous population in Alberta, Canada. The surveys and statistics provided insight into the widespread prevalence of type II diabetes among the Indigenous population in Alberta and what to do about it. Based on Indigenous Survey Data results and data from Statistics Canada on Indigenous health status in Alberta, a six-session protocol was developed. The survey data described medical, cultural, and lifestyle care results for Indigenous people in Alberta and how the results have led to the type II diabetes numbers within the population. This study used the results of the surveys to build and formulate the six-session protocol and analyze the risk factors and high occurrence of type II diabetes among the Indigenous people in Alberta. Physicians who stated that the patients followed protocol regarding weight loss, exercised, regularly monitored blood sugar levels, and minimized risk factors showed a significant reduction in symptoms, which can lead to type II diabetes. Quality of life also improved in those who maintained a healthy lifestyle. De
Tear gas
Tear gas is a chemical weapon increasingly used by police to disperse demonstrators during riot control operations. It has specific properties that rapidly cause short-term temporary incapacitation. This weapon is falsely characterized by its low toxicity and the reversibility of its effects, since it can cause damage to exposed subjects, leading to complaints before the courts. These complaints give rise to serious problems for medical experts in proving exposure, establishing the causal link and assessing the medico-legal consequences. Recognition of the causal link between exposure to tear gas and the sequelae found is based on verification of the imputability criteria. Verification of these criteria is sometimes difficult, due to the victim's previous condition, the quality of the initial medical certificate, the simulation of victims and the determination of sequelae in elderly subjects.
Thyroid nodules
Introduction: The EU-Tirads 2017 ultrasound classification of thyroid nodules has been adopted to predict the degree of malignancy of thyroid nodules and thus minimize unnecessary thyroid surgery. Our aim was to study the validity of the EU-Tirads 2017 ultrasound classification by performing a radiohistological confrontation. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study over the period from 2017 to 2020, involving 300 patients operated on for nodular thyroid pathology and who underwent thyroid ultrasonography using the EUTIRADS 2017 classification, patients were managed at the Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Department of Mohamed Taher Ma璽mouri Hospital Nabeul, Tunisia .Results: we found malignancy prediction percentages of 0%, 22.1%, 41.4% and 36.4% for nodules classified EUTIRADS 2,3,4 and 5 respectively. A statistically significant association of prediction of malignancy was noted for EUTIRADS 5 score. Two criteria of score 5, namely high hypoechogenicity and irregular contours, were significantly associated with malignancy, with sensitivities of 85.2% and 62% respectively.
Biomass and health
Biomass smoke is the smoke produced by burning organic material, such as wood, charcoal, crop residues and animal wastes, and is a major source of air pollution, especially in rural areas where biomass is commonly used for cooking and heating. Studies have shown that the smoke generated by biomass burning has a diverse composition of gases and particulate matter including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds and particulate matter, these same pollutants have the potential to cause a variety of adverse health effects including respiratory disorders, cardiovascular disease and the development of cancer.
Exposure to Pesticides and Long-Term Health Effects
The use of pesticides has had a serious impact from the environmental point of view and especially on public health, with reports of contamination of various media (air, water and soil), and cases of acute poisoning and death, but with few real reports of the chronic health effects of long-term exposure to these substances. This study shows the effects on the health of workers who were exposed to pesticides in the long term and who were treated at the Toxicology Outpatient Clinic at Unicamp's Hospital de Cl穩nicas in 2006 and 2007. This is a descriptive cross-sectional observational study that reports and analyses the effects on the health of 370 workers occupationally exposed to pesticides over the long term in the region studied.
Professional training for nurses through realistic simulation
The professional training of nurses through realistic simulation is a book that reports on the realisation of an educational activity through realistic simulation in an undergraduate nursing course. Active methodologies should increasingly be included in the training not only of nurses, but of all health professionals, as they allow real situations to be problematised in the academic environment. The book provides support for anyone wishing to learn about new teaching methods and take ownership of active methodologies.

Designed by coders for coders, this full-color manual includes all the ICD-10 codes that you need to code medical services provided in physicians' offices and outpatient settings. As coders need extensive knowledge to code with ICD-10-CM - and to choose from the thousands of possible codes - this edition makes it easier with colorful anatomy plates (including Netter's Anatomy illustrations) to help you understand anatomy and how it can affect your code choices. In addition, it comes with durable spiral binding, and includes a companion website with the latest coding updates.NEW! Updated 2025 Official Code set reflects the latest ICD-10 codes needed for diagnosis coding.At-a-glance Guide to the 2025 ICD-10-CM Updates in the front of the book lists all new, revised, and deleted codes, providing quick lookup of the coding changes.Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting (OGCRs) are listed in full in the Introduction, at the beginning of each chapter, and integrated within the code set, providing easier reference to coding rules when they are needed most.Unique! Full-color anatomy plates (including Netter's Anatomy art) are included in a separate section for easy reference and cross-referenced within the Tabular List of Diseases and Injuries, to help you understand anatomy and how it may affect choosing codes.Full-color design includes consistent color-coded symbols and text, providing easier access to codes and coding information.American Hospital Association's Coding Clinic(R) citations include official ICD-10-CM coding advice relating to specific codes and their usage.More than 190 illustrations provide visual orientation and enhance understanding of specific coding situations.Items are included throughout the Tabular List to ensure accurate coding, providing additional information on common diseases and conditions.Additional elements within specific codes define terms and add coding instructions relating to difficult terminology, diseases and conditions, or coding in a specific category.Symbols and highlights draw attention to codes that may require special consideration before coding, including: New, Revised, and DeletedUnacceptable Principal DiagnosisCodes that Call for the Use of Additional Character(s)Includes, Excludes 1, and Excludes 2Use AdditionalCode First and Code AlsoPlaceholder X symbol reminds users to assign placeholder X for codes less than 6 characters that require a 7th character.Manifestation code symbol identifies conditions for which it is important to record both the etiology and the symptom of the disease.HCC symbol indicates diagnoses in the Tabular List associated with Hierarchical Condition Categories.Age and Sex edits from the Definition of Medicare Code Edits help to ensure accuracy by denoting codes that are used only with patients of a specific age or sex.
Evolution of biological tolerance parameters for HIV patients
Infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) represents the largest contemporary human pandemic of infection, consistently lethal in the absence of treatment.HIV infection persists despite efforts to combat it, causing high morbidity and disastrous consequences for families. In addition to prevention, it is important to provide more effective drugs. In 1987, zidovudine was introduced as a monotherapy. This was followed by triple therapy between 1995 and 1996, with a combination of protease inhibitors (PIs) and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). In 2001, generic drugs were introduced. A decade later, the first preventive treatment, known as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), appeared in 2012. In recent years, WHO-recommended treatments for adults and adolescents have consisted of two types of nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), accompanied by an NNRTI or PI.
Hearing Screening in Neonates with Hyperbilirubinemia
Humanity perceives the world around us thanks to the sensory systems of the body. In particular, hearing significantly facilitates communication and promotes social interaction. Hearing is key to learning spoken language and is important for children's cognitive development. Hearing impairment is an obstacle to both education and social integration. The prevalence of bilateral pathology of the auditory analyzer is significant, especially in newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit with risk factors for hearing impairment. The prevalence of significant bilateral hearing loss in this group is 1-3%, which is 10 times higher than in a healthy newborn child.
