Coffee’s effect on viral liver disease
Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world and its beneficial effects have been the subject of study for years. As an antioxidant drink, it can inhibit liver enzymes, reducing hepatocyte damage and may be directly linked to a decrease in APRI and FIB4 values in cirrhotic patients with chronic hepatitis C. This improvement in the liver is directly related to coffee intake. With this in mind, this study looked at coffee intake in different groups with viral hepatopathies and the findings showed that increasing coffee consumption can improve the liver profile of these patients.

Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is an innovative technique based on OCT, enabling the visualization of vessels in the various chorio-retinal layers in three dimensions without dye injection. This technique provides a new semiological analysis, with a better understanding of chorio-retinal vascular architecture, but it has certain limitations, as it is a static test sensitive to various artifacts linked to movement or changes in chorio-retinal architecture. OCTA is currently promising for the diagnosis of various non-inflammatory pathologies, but remains insufficient for therapeutic decision-making, and must be compared with data from older multimodal imaging techniques.
COVID-19 pneumopathy
SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia is a serious emerging disease. More than 6 million deaths have been reported by the World Health Organization since the start of the pandemic. Identifying the factors associated with disease worsening is necessary to improve the use of medical resources to reduce mortality due to COVID-19. The aim of this study was to investigate the epidemiological, clinical, biological and radiological characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in patients hospitalized in a respiratory department, in order to identify factors predictive of an unfavorable short-term course.
Teenage pregnancy and childbirth
Adolescent pregnancy and childbirth appear to be critical and special situations on an international scale. Objectives: To study the characteristics and maternal-fetal prognosis of these pregnancies.Materials and methods: Retrospective study of 72 adolescent deliveries out of a total of 4487 deliveries at the Monastir maternity and neonatology center in 2022.ResultsTeenage births occurred at a frequency of 1.6%.The average age of these adolescents was 18.6 years. 4.17% were single mothers.83.33% were primigravidas. The most common gynaecological antecedent was abortion.19.44% of adolescents had not had the number of ANC recommended in Tunisia. Analysis of pregnancy-related pathologies shows that premature rupture of membranes is the most frequent incident during pregnancy, at a rate of 30.56%. The rate of premature deliveries is 12.5%. 21.9% of these newborns were transferred to the neonatology department.Conclusion: Early sex education and information on contraception should reduce the incidence of these pregnancies.
Telemedicine in psychiatry
Today, telemedicine is redefining medical paradigms, improving access to mental health care and establishing itself as a central topic in international debates since the Covid-19 pandemic. In North Africa and the MENA region, its implementation faces complex challenges, particularly in terms of infrastructure, digital accessibility and regulation. In Tunisia, the legal framework for telemedicine was recently defined by Presidential Decree-Law no. 318/2022 of April 8, published in the Journal Officiel de la R矇publique Tunisienne. Psychiatry is particularly concerned by this development. The objectives of this study were to: Assess Tunisian psychiatrists' knowledge, perception and acceptance of telemedicine. Analyze the ethical, medico-legal, administrative and socio-cultural issues associated with the application of telemedicine in psychiatry. A well-thought-out integration of telemedicine could considerably strengthen and optimize psychiatric care services in Tunisia.

Time-to-Optimal Control of Hypertension
Most statistical analysis methods do not include the length of time as a variable, and analysis is made only on the trial outcomes upon completion of the study period, as specified in the study protocol (In and Lee, 2018). However, in cases where the outcome yields different interpretations at different points in time, even over a range of only several hours or minutes, it is advantageous to use a statistical analysis method incorporating time as a variable (Kleinbaum and Klein, 2005). Survival methods apply when the focus is the time until an event, such as death or disease onset (Sowmya and David, 2007). Survival analysis is a type of statistical analysis that looks at how predictors affect the time until an event happens, rather than the probability of the event itself. It is used to analyze data in which the time until the event is of interest. As the name indicates, this method has origins in the field of medical research for evaluating the impact of medicines or medical treatment on time until death (Sheik, Selvakumar, Parkavi, Suganya and Venkatesh, 2019).
What about imported bilharziasis in Tunisia?
Introduction: Although bilharziasis is the second most endemic parasitic disease in the world, it is considered a neglected tropical disease. In Tunisia, only imported cases have been reported since 1984.Objective: to analyze the epidemiological, clinical and parasitological characteristics of bilharziasis cases diagnosed in ENRPT.Methods: Our study was a cross-sectional study conducted over a period of 15 academic years, and included 6051 ENRPT. Each student was thoroughly interviewed and underwent an EPS and EPU before enrolling in a Tunisian institution.Results: Bilharzia was diagnosed in 91 students (1.5%) (76 cases of intestinal bilharzia, 14 cases of urogenital bilharzia and 1 case of a combination of these 2 forms). The sex ratio of patients was 3 and their mean age 24.4 years. Most students were asymptomatic. Association with other digestive parasites was frequent.Conclusion: This study highlights the importance of maintaining systematic surveillance of ENRPT and prompt management.

It is important to emphasize that high doses and the combination of multiple anabolic steroids can never be considered safe. Tragically, the deaths of numerous athletes, particularly bodybuilders, have increasingly been linked to anabolic steroid use. In my previous publications, I explored the evidence supporting the use of nutritional sports supplements, which are generally safer alternatives to anabolic steroids. The versatile functions Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles (SPIONs) have increased the interest of their application in biomedicine. More specifically, the thermal properties SPIONs exhibit in the presence of alternating magnetic fields are of particular interest in cancer therapy where they display potential for hyperthermia treatment. Here we discuss the appropriate SPION synthesis and coating for surface functionalization allowing tissue targeting. Furthermore, the process of SPION induced hyperthermia, their advantages and disadvantages for medical application and degradation are addressed. The unique properties of SPIONs give rise to the potential of enhanced cancer therapy which highlight the importance of further research in this field.
Pathogenetic mechanisms of anxious depression
In this book the author wants to discuss from the clinical and biochemical points of view some aspects of the dynamics of anxious depression under the treatment with serotonergic antidepressants with different mechanisms of action on serotonin reuptake - inhibitor and enhancer. The underlining biochemical and hormonal changes are described. There were investigated the conformational changes of the albumin molecule in patients with anxious depression in dynamics of pharmacotherapy with antidepressant - tianeptine using subnanosecond fluorescence laser spectroscopy with specific fluorescent probe CAPIDAN. There was performed comparative analysis of the conformational changes in patients with anxious and melancholic depression. In anxious depression all amplitudes before treatment were significantly lower than in healthy controls whereas in melancholic depression before the treatment amplitudes were higher as compared with controls. These results point out that that the two types of depression - anxious and melancholic - have different metabolic profile.

Periodontal diseases are infectious. Gram-positive bacteria from saliva express adhesions that selectively bind to pellicle and mediate colonization and growth of supragingival plaque. In a matter of days, Gram-negative species colonize through specific receptors binding to the Gram-positive bacteria. If left unhindered a few days later tightly adherent microbial plaque becomes visible on the tooth surface at the gingival margin and an acute inflammatory response manifested as gingivitis develops. Biofilms are "Matrix enclosed bacterial populations adherent to each other and surfaces or interfaces". The biofilm concept is important in understanding the patho-microbiology of periodontitis and its relation to systemic diseases. As in the case of biofilms in general, subgingival plaques are difficult to eliminate. Gram-negative bacteria in the biofilms shed vesicles that are rich in LPs. The biofilms serve as a constantly renewing source of LPs which once pocket epithelium forms, have ready access to the connective tissue and circulation. Physical disruption and removal are effective ways of dealing with biofilms.

Imported malaria
Introduction: Malaria is the world's leading parasitic endemic. In Tunisia, although its autochthonous form was eliminated in 1979, the number of imported cases continues to increase, exposing the country to the risk of reintroduction. Objective: To evaluate the performance of 2 rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), "ABON(TM) Plus Malaria(R)" and "iTest Malaria(R)", compared with reference microscopic techniques, in the diagnosis of imported malaria in Tunisia. Parasite testing was direct by thick drop (GE), blood smear (FS) and one or more RDT. Results: We collected 35 cases of malaria. The GE was positive in 34 patients and the FS in 21. Plasmodium falciparum was the most commonly identified species. The 2 tests showed excellent concordance with the GE in symptomatic patients. In asymptomatic patients (represented by the foreign students mentioned in the screening), the sensitivity and specificity of the "ABON(TM) Plus" test were 48% and 100% respectively, and those of the "iTest(R) " 23.8% and 100%. Conclusion: RDTs are a useful diagnostic aid, without replacing reference techniques.
Comparing the Efficacy of Triclosan versus Chlorhexidine Coated Suture
Among antimicrobials, triclosan and chlorohexidine have a broad antibacterial spectrum as well as high biocompatibility indices. Triclosan, an antibacterial coated polyglactin 910(vicryl plus) and chlorohexidine, an antibacterial coated polyglactin 910(3-0) (PECTRYL CS, Dolphin suture) which replace the conventional method of administering antibiotic in routine third molar surgeries and help in maximizing antimicrobial benefits locally and reducing antibiotic load systematically and the complications that follow. Apart from promising study result of triclosan- coated sutures, triclosan also has drawbacks including formation of toxic side products(e.g. chlorinated phenols, methyl triclosan) and antibiotic resistances, likely due to its prevalence in cosmetics and soap. Additionally, triclosan promotes the protein mediated binding of staphylococci to host cells with the consequence of an increased number of nasal infections caused by S. aureus colonization in the presence of triclosan. Due to these restrictions in the use of triclosan, alternatives are urgently needed. Chlorohexidine are highly effective alternatives, inhibiting relevant pathogens of wound infections.

Prevalence of Amoebiasis in Pregnant Women in Africa
Amoebiasis is an infection caused by various species of the protozoan Entamoeba, including Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar, Entamoeba coli, Entamoeba hartmanni, Entamoeba polecki, and Entamoeba gingivalis. This book aims to investigate the prevalence of amoebiasis among pregnant women in Africa using gold standard microscopy methods. Stool samples were collected from pregnant women attending antenatal care at the General Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. The research involved 170 pregnant women who visited the antenatal clinic between May and July 2024. Each participant completed a questionnaire to correlate the prevalence and risk factors with their socio-demographic characteristics. Out of the participants, 150 provided stool samples, which were microscopically examined at magnifications of X10 and X40, revealing a prevalence rate of 21.33% for E. histolytica infection. Statistical analysis indicated no significant association (p=0.05) between socio-demographic factors and amoebiasis prevalence. The findings suggest that E. histolytica infections are relatively low in Africa, attributed to good environmental sanitation practices in the continent.
Determinants of Risk of Obesity
This descriptive-correlational study was to establish the socialenvironment, personal factors, health locus of control and health practices that increase the risk of obesity and with the information gleaned propose a model. The total number of respondents in the study was 512. The social support system of the respondents was good. The body image of the respondents was good and they had good health locus of control. There were low rates of physical activity among the respondents. Dietary intake of the respondents was rated poor. Medical checkup practices among the respondents was rated low. The independent variables found to be significantly correlated with BMI were: age, gender, educational attainment and civil status. Significant predictors of the risk for obesity include: (a) age (b) gender and (c) dietary practice. The respondent at highest risk of obesity was the mature, married man. Based on the findings the Global Obesity Prevention Model was developed.

Skin Grafts Before the development of antibiotics, a conservative approach was generally taken to wound closure because of the risk of infection and the potential for tissue loss at the wound edges. Wound debridement was therefore limited to removal of well-demarcated nonviable tissue to avoid enlarging the wound. Local wound care promoted healing through wound contraction. The resultant scar was frequently associated with contracture and skin instability. With the advent of antibiotics following the development of sulfonamides and penicillin in the mid-twentieth century, control of local wound infection permitted a more aggressive approach to wound closure. The initial use of pinch grafts and later split-thickness skin grafts allowed successful closure of large wounds. More complex wounds with circulatory impairment, chronic infection, and composite defects, however, were unsuitable for skin-graft coverage. These wounds could not be adequately managed until flaps were developed.

Colorectal cancer is the leading digestive cancer worldwide. The liver is the most frequent site of colorectal cancer metastases. During the course of the disease, 40 to 60% of patients will develop liver metastases, which are synchronous in 10 to 25% of cases.Elective surgery is the only potentially curative treatment.In the synchronous situation, the simultaneous surgical approach has been validated, but poses a problem of approach.Laparoscopy may have a place in this approach.The aim of our study was to assess the feasibility and safety of the laparoscopic approach in combined surgery for colorectal cancer with synchronous liver metastases.

The Handbook of Sex Differences is a four-volume reference work written to assess sex differences, with a primary focus on the human species. Based on the authors' highly influential 2008 book Sex Differences, these volumes highlight important new research findings from the last decade and a half alongside earlier findings.In this, the work's fourth and last volume, two related questions are addressed: Are there universal sex differences (i.e., sex differences found in all societies)?
