Multiple working days and their consequences for teachers
The book portrays the teacher who works in several schools, with a greater workload, and with little time to prepare their lessons, to correct work, tests and also the lack of time to take care of their own health. In this research, we want to look at the consequences of multiple working hours for teachers and their teaching process, and the time off work they end up taking as a result.
Urbanisation, urbanicity, metropolisation and their influence on health
Scientific interest in how the social and physical characteristics of the places where people live and work define the living and health conditions of individuals and populations and the use of collective measures to improve these conditions is not a recent phenomenon. However, in recent years researchers have suggested the debate on Urban Health and Urbanicity as a current possibility for interpreting the relationship between places and health. Urban health is understood as an emerging area of knowledge that discusses the growing importance of cities worldwide and their role in shaping population health and the contexts of life within them. This is because urbanisation and metropolisation in different parts of the world can have different implications for health. The growing importance of cities, together with historical and current evidence demonstrating the relationship between the various characteristics of city contexts and the health of populations, imposes the need for a focus on the health of (in) places to have the potential to guide actions that investigate the role of cities in the health, quality of life and well-being of individuals and populations in different countries.
Managerialism and performativity in Brazilian education
The aim of this book is to discuss the influence of managerialism and performativity in Brazilian educational management. The research carried out to produce this book shows the emergence and expansion of managerialism in Brazilian public administration, which came about through the Reform of the State, based on the rationalisation of work and the commercialisation of administrative processes. It is in this context of state reform and the modernisation of public administration that Brazilian educational management has been implementing public policies in line with the managerial model present in several countries around the world over the last few decades. This book is aimed at students, teachers, education managers and other professionals interested in understanding Brazilian public education today.
Religious Education in Public Schools
The aim of this Final Course Work was to investigate how Religious Education is applied in public schools in Marituba. Whether the content taught complies with the National Curriculum Parameters and whether it is in line with the Brazilian Federal Constitution, which in its article 210 specifies the minimum objectives for primary education, in order to ensure common basic education and respect for cultural and regional values. And whether it complies with the Law on the Guidelines and Bases of National Education, which in its article 33 ensures that 'Religious Education, which is optional, is an integral part of the basic education of citizens and is a subject on the normal timetable of public primary schools, and respects the cultural and religious diversity of Brazil'. Our central problem was to critically analyse whether this religious teaching in public schools is confessional-catechetical, serving as an instrument of alienation.

The study objectives were to: establish how principals' use curriculum; students' support systems; teacher support systems and involvement of the school community relations in promoting social cohesion in public secondary schools in Machakos County. The hypothesis for the study were that there is no statistically significant relationship between principals' use of school curriculum, use of student support systems, use of teacher support systems and use of internal and external school community relation and promotion of social cohesion. The study was guided by the ecological systems theory of human development and socialization. Professional (Re)qualification of Teaching Practice
The study investigates trends in continuous training in the professional (re)qualification of teaching praxis. With the aim of analyzing the continuous training of teachers in the context of developing pedagogical skills at the School for the Teachers of the Future. Combined methodological approaches, including the hypothetical deductive method and descriptive research are conducted through literature review, interview, questionnaire and observation, instruments used to collect quantitative-qualitative data given the nature of the mixed study approach. At the same time, a questionnaire interview was conducted with teachers/trainers participating in ongoing training programs in order to explore their perceptions and experiences as well as the impact of the training on their pedagogical practices. The results of the research indicate a positive correlation between participation in ongoing training programs and the development of pedagogical skills among teachers. In addition, the analysis of the data reveals that teachers have shown significant improvement in their ability to implement effective pedagogical practices after participating in ongoing training programs.
99% Perspiration
An enlightening and entertaining interrogation of the myth of American self-reliance and the idea of hard work as destiny "Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration." This phrase, arguably Thomas Edison's most famous quote, has been drilled into the minds of generations of Americans. A fairly straightforward iteration of the idea that innovation, discovery, and ingenuity are the result of drive and grit above all, it has also come to represent much darker myths: that hard work always leads to success and that achievement is the product of individuals and not communities. In this model, those who come out on top are there because they earned it, and everyone else needs to buckle down, glove up, and, maybe one day, they'll get there too. As the wealth gap widens, communities crumble, and Americans work more for less, Adam Chandler raises the question: What happens when perspiration isn't enough? To answer it, he crisscrosses the country interviewing mayors, teachers, generals, pastors, construction workers, and entrepreneurs, to reveal just how untenable relying on "perspiration" as a strategy has truly become. He also delves into America's past to reveal how our government, education system, and culture at large have woven the idea of meritocracy deep into the fabric of American society and how some of history's most famous so-called bootstrappers really built their wealth. From George Washington to Seattle, Washington, Jay Gatsby to Bill Gates, 99% Perspiration unpacks the misguided obsession with hard work that has come to define both the American dream and nightmare, offering insight into how we got here and hope for where we may go.

Writing a scientific report
The purpose of this paper is to explain to our researcher how to prepare his end-of-course report, in which we clarify the methodological aspects of a report and the standards used to prepare scientific work at the Higher Institute of Educational Sciences (ISCED) in Huambo, Angola. The contribution of their teachers plays a crucial role in the development of the learning process, playing an important role in the assimilation of content, acquiring habits, skills and convictions, to later apply methodologically in their scientific work. It should be added that Scientific Research Methodology and Educational Research Methodology facilitate the acquisition of methodological and investigative knowledge, with the help of the teacher, so that in the future they can draw up research projects in the teaching internship schools, demonstrating the results of their research in their technical-scientific reports, which is the social objective we want to achieve.
The Importance of Meritocracy for Career Advancement
In recent decades we have seen a socio-economic revolution that has changed companies and the business world. Various studies have been conducted with the aim of outlining strategies, techniques and determinants that will guarantee companies success in this scenario. What can be seen as a consensus among scholars and the business world is the prominent role that people have come to play in achieving organisational objectives and for the survival of companies. Among the main strategies used to identify and retain such talents, professional development has taken centre stage. One of the basic principles currently used for career advancement systems is meritocracy, understood as recognition based on competences expressed in the workplace. In response to this scenario, this book seeks to define meritocracy and career advancement and analyse the viability of using a meritocratic system as the basis for organisational processes and strategies for professional growth, recognition and talent retention.

Teaching Internship
The aim of this book is to analyse the stages of the student internship for professional training. The professional demands of the labour market in contemporary society mean that the various higher education and vocational training courses include theoretical and practical activities in their syllabus so that students complete their studies with increasingly complex work and tasks, involving procedures that harmonise theory with practice. In the course of the research, it was possible to understand: the reasons for the replacement of employed workers by trainees, the low quality of monitoring and assessments, the reasons for the growing number of trainees in the formal labour market and their distortion. The absence or non-existence of the coordination and monitoring stages has led to the mischaracterisation of the institute.

Military Police Activity in Brazil
To know where we want to go, we need to know who we are and where we come from. This book seeks to situate the reader in terms of the work of the military police in Brazil, using the state of Paran獺 as a case study, which has a police force that has been in existence for over 160 years. We sought to understand the day-to-day life of the police, working hours, equipment and professional training so that we could analyse the effects of this peculiar activity in the world in terms of possible losses and gains in terms of physical performance, concentration, shooting performance and high-intensity interval training due to some specific aspects such as sleep deprivation during work, night shifts, extra weight in equipment and loaded weapons. It was noted that research in this field is little explored in Brazil and that it is also a fertile field for understanding military police activity and seeking strategies suited to the demands of the activity with a view to more efficient performance in training and preparation for police action.
Biology course implementation process
The aim of this book is to discuss the training of teachers in the field of natural sciences by the federal network of professional and technological education, specifically the federal institutes. The federal network has traditionally offered courses in the technical area and, since the early 1990s, it has also dedicated itself to offering degree courses, with priority given to the area of Natural Sciences, which has the greatest shortage of teachers in our country. In this book, we present discussions on this subject, focussing on the experience of creating a degree course in Biology at the Federal Institute of Rond繫nia - Colorado do Oeste campus.
High school maths teachers and ICT in Goi獺s-Brazil
This paper describes the results of a master's research project on 'Information and communication technologies in state public schools in Goi獺s - what high school maths teachers say', carried out at the University Centre of An獺polis - UniEVANG?LICA (2014). The aim was to analyse the inclusion or non-inclusion of ICT in the teaching and learning process of Mathematics in the public education network of the state of Goi獺s. To this end, 5 (five) schools representing the five mesoregions of the state were selected. Methodologically, the work is characterised as exploratory research of a qualitative and quantitative nature, with data collected by means of a questionnaire and interviews. The results reveal a worrying picture with regard to the process of teaching and learning maths and the new educational model, through the inclusion of ICT in education, such as the lack of physical structure in schools, continuing teacher training for the use of ICT and well-planned public educational policies that end up drawing the map of the non-inclusion of ICT in teachers' pedagogical actions.
Neuroeducation and the Sensitive Self
Neuroeducation has been used as a way to motivate students to learn what a curriculum requires them to learn. However, used as a respectful tool, neuroeducation has the potential to be a way of access to consciousness, if it is done by listening to each student from his particular feeling and developing from there his own path of Being. The objective of this work is to carry out a documentary review of bibliographic sources, to contrast both approaches, in such a way that a base is cemented to build a conscious Neuroeducation as a way that develops the senses to be a formal access to the development of consciousness, both of the self, as well as the spirit of the whole that surrounds us; at the same time it provides tools to change the perspective of conscious neuroeducation in the reader-educator.
Economic Vulnerability and Educational Inequalities in the Commune of Talca
In the elementary schools of Talca, segregating behaviors towards the economically vulnerable population are evident. Based on this, the main objective of this research is to analyze the consequences of this exclusion towards people with a low socioeconomic level. The difficulties perceived by the students' monetary capital influence their educational, social, emotional and family development, affecting the right to receive a quality and equitable education, which allows their integral development as a person. Therefore, the solution to this problem is to provide information on the obstacles of economic vulnerability and to train teachers, so that they have effective tools and competencies that allow an equitable and quality education for all students regardless of the socioeconomic status to which they belong. In this context, it is essential to reduce the perception of education professionals regarding economic influence.
The ”New” High School and Minimum Basic Education
The aim of this book was to analyze the type of youth education that is expressed in and from the High School Counter-Reform, especially with regard to the composition of the curriculum of the state education network in Rio de Janeiro. The results compiled in the book, with emphasis on the last chapter, indicate the negative implications of the "New" High School for the education of young people. The legislation already pointed to what is materialized in the curricula of the Rio de Janeiro state network: a massive reduction in the workload of basic general education; a reduction in class time for curricular components that are extremely important for the integral human formation of subjects, especially Sociology and Philosophy, but also Biology, Chemistry, History and others; a concept of education based on the logic of competencies, linked to a BNCC that does not even remotely correspond to what the progressive camp is arguing for as a concept of education; among other issues. For these and other reasons, we stress the importance of its repeal and the collective construction of a genuine reform of secondary education, which in turn values the integral human formation of this public.
Fundaments of Voltage Sag in Electrical Network
Voltage sags refer to brief reductions in root mean square (rms) voltage, primarily resulting from short circuits and the initiation of large motors. The significant concern surrounding voltage sags arises from the issues they create for various types of equipment. Notably, adjustable-speed drives, process-control systems, and computers are particularly vulnerable to these fluctuations. Certain devices may trip when the rms voltage falls below 90% for durations exceeding one or two cycles, leading to frequent disruptions-potentially occurring dozens of times annually. In the context of a paper mill's process-control equipment, the repercussions of voltage sags can be substantial. While voltage sags are not as detrimental to industrial operations as either short or long interruptions, their higher frequency means that the cumulative impact of sags can surpass that of interruptions. Additionally, addressing voltage sags presents considerable challenges.
Investigating Learning Disorders
Learning disabilities or learning disorders is the umbrella term for a wide range of learning problems. Learning disabilities have nothing to do with intelligence or motivation. Children with learning disabilities are not lazy or dumb. In fact, most of them are as smart as the rest. Only the wiring of their brains is different. This difference affects the way they receive and process information. Simply put, children and adults with learning disabilities see, hear, and understand things differently. This issue causes difficulty in learning new information and skills and using them. The most common types of learning disabilities include problems with reading, writing, math, reasoning, listening, and speaking. While every child has trouble with homework from time to time, if a particular area of learning becomes a persistent problem, it could indicate a learning disorder. Children with learning disabilities can achieve success.

Meeting of the Rivers
In this book, Leonardo compares the curricula of UNIRIO's face-to-face and distance learning Pedagogy courses, seeking to understand the meanings given to the initial training of I.E. teachers. Using the metaphor 'meeting of rivers', the author delves into the projects of each course, situates them historically, analyses the subjects focused on I.E., interviews teachers and arrives at results that allow questions to be discussed about aspects of the breadth of Pedagogy courses. The comparison highlights gaps and needs in the initial training of pedagogue teachers, the specificities of teaching in I.E. and the meanings of distance learning which, at UNIRIO, trains three times as many teachers as face-to-face courses. The text brings us face to face with contemporary issues: the precariousness of teaching work, pedagogy today and the subtleties of teaching in nurseries and pre-schools. In a committed and involved way, the author ends his work with a poem about the meeting of rivers, which mix lovingly in favour of teacher training that is sensitive and affects children. Out of Poverty
Out of Poverty provides a comprehensive defence of Third World sweatshops that does not put economic efficiency over people, but instead explores methods of improving the welfare of those in Third World countries. The author explains how sweatshops provide the best opportunity for workers; and how they play an important role in development, leading to better wages and working conditions. Using economic theory, empirical evidence, and historical investigation, Powell argues that the anti-sweatshop movement would harm the very workers it intends to help by creating less-desirable alternatives and undermining development. Including a new chapter on the 2013 Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh, this revised and expanded second edition also explores how sweatshop wages have changed and how poverty alleviation has progressed in countries with sweatshops in the late 1990s and early 2000s and how boycotting Uyghur forced labor in China differs other sweatshop boycotts.

Part I analyzes the educational principles and rights of actors, highlighting that the reform promotes equitable access and inclusion, although it faces challenges in its implementation.Part II addresses the National Education System, highlighting the tension between centralization and decentralization. Although the reform prioritizes centralization to standardize policies, the authors suggest that greater autonomy would allow better adaptation to local needs.Part III addresses bilingual intercultural education, the teaching career, and the regulation of infractions. The reform seeks to strengthen programs for indigenous and Afro-descendant communities and improve the teaching career, although challenges in training and sanctions persist, affecting confidence in the system. In conclusion, the book advocates revising the LOEI to achieve a more fair and inclusive educational system, appropriate to the diversity of Ecuador.

The teacher’s constitution from the perspective of intellectuality
The aim of this study was to analyse the professional development of two basic education teachers from the S瓊o Paulo state school system by analysing sociological portraits that would allow us to build an understanding of teaching as an intellectual function, according to the definition of the American theorist and critic Henry Giroux. Bearing in mind the limits and possibilities for this intellectuality, and considering the public education policies in the state of S瓊o Paulo that determine teacher training and the implementation of programmes and curricula, we sought, using the research methodology adopted and based on French sociologist Bernard Lahire, to highlight which dispositions were constructed by the teachers and how they were configured in the different socialisation processes during their professional career, seeking to highlight interfaces with the concept of the intellectual teacher.
Cross-Border Labor Mobility
This revised and updated book provides unique insight into cross-border labor mobility, from the ancient forms of slavery to the present day. With a focus on the economic factors that underpin human mobility across the world, it charts the different forms of migration from African and Amerindian slaveries, to modern global migration and human trafficking. By highlighting the economic and political conditions that drive human mobility and anti-immigrant sentiments, a nuanced and detailed understanding of the drivers of forced and voluntary cross-border mobility are presented. This book presents a multidisciplinary understanding of the patterns and processes that define human mobility. It will be of interest to students, researchers, and policymakers working within labour economics and migration studies.
