Architectural Encounters in Asia Pacific explores the architecture of colonial trade and industry, revealing a complex network of transnational connections across the built heritage of the world's most dispersed and culturally diverse region. A wide-ranging collection of case studies uncover these forgotten connections, drawing together stories of migratory architects, imperial commodities, and indentured labour. From Iran to Tasmania, Japan to Java, and Imperial China to the Pacific Islands, the chapters reveal how remnants of colonial trade and industry shed light on the many multi-faceted mobilities of the imperial age, and their enduring legacy in the postcolonial built environments of Australasia, the Pacific, Southeast Asia and beyond. Lawrence Kocher
The book offers a new conceptual and historical framework for the study of Kocher's body of work that relocates it within the history of American modern architecture.Kocher's work as an independent designer has gotten very little critical attention. The book devotes several chapters to this little-known part of Kocher's practice and resituates him as one of the main protagonists in the history of American Modern architecture and reveals the profound relationship between Kocher's designs and existing American domestic traditions. Kocher' concept of the vernacular included not only the different residential types of Colonial and Early Republican America, but most importantly, other kinds of transitional dwelling artifacts. This book tries to provide evidence about Kocher's intention of using these vernacular artifacts, alongside the concepts of prefabrication and industrialization inherent to them as a base to construct a new national architecture in which to graft the European modernist tradition. Kocher's ideological position and his continuous eagerness for experimentation transformed him into an atypical practitioner. While many of his contemporaries were purely design focused, he established a very avant-garde symbiosis among his three main endeavors: his work as an educator, as a scholar, and as a practitioner. Some of his architectural works can be seen as manifestos that would later further develop in the articles of Architectural Record. Some others are the direct and material demonstrations of industrial systems and materials previously explored in his articles. Even other works are conceived and executed as part of a pedagogical activity. It is rare to find an architectural design in Kocher's body of work that does not demonstrate a multitude of interconnections among his pedagogy, his editorial work, and his scholarship.

The established canon of architectural pedagogy has been predominantly produced within the Northern hemisphere and transposed - or imposed - across schools within the Global South, more often, with scant regard for social, economic, political or ecological culture and context, nor regional or indigenous pedagogic principles and practices. Throughout the Global South, architecture's academic community has been deeply affected by this regime, how it shapes and influences proto-professionals and by implication architectural processes and outcomes, too.The Routledge Companion to Architectural Pedagogies of the Global South resituates and recenters an array of pedagogic approaches that are either produced or proliferate from the 'Global South' while antagonizing the linguistic, epistemological and disciplinary conceits that, under imperialist imperatives, ensured that these pedagogies remained maligned or marginalized. The book maintains that the exclusionary implications of architectural notions of the 'orders', the 'canon' and the 'core' have served to constrain and to calcify its contents and in doing so, imperiled its relevance and impact. In contrast, this companion of pedagogic approaches serves to evidence that architecture's academic and professional advancement is wholly contingent on its ability to fully engage in an additive and inclusive process whereby the necessary disruptions that occur when marginalized knowledge confronts established knowledge result in a catalytical transformation through which new, co-created knowledge can emerge. Notions of tradition, identity, modernity, vernacularism, post-colonialism, poverty, migration, social and spatial justice, climate apartheid, globalization, ethical standards and international partnerships are key considerations in the context of the Global South. Manhattan is commonly regarded as an iconic island-territory of the twentieth century. Conventional representations reinforce its reading as an urban condition resulting from neoliberal capitalism. These forces have expanded the city grid and extruded its architectures as a laboratory of urban ideas. Yet, like many other coastal and insular conditions, twenty-first century Manhattan faces adverse Anthropogenic climate change. Stronger storm surges and sea level rise now demand that the island recalibrates its social and environmental positions. The city needs to consider once again its fluid archipelagic conditions inherited from glacial dynamics. With a focus on iconic city representations, the book examines distinct logics that try to make capitalist progress compatible with its territorial conditions. Even though these logics of land, water and ground - here called geologics - are perhaps less dominant than the dense urban culture and, therefore, less predominant in the representation of the city, they are still important to explain why Manhattan evolved to its current condition. The book explores these geologics through relationships between three nineteenth-century plans of Manhattan and three late-twentieth-century architectural manifestos - Delirious New York (Rem Koolhaas), The Manhattan Transcripts (Bernard Tschumi), and Lower Manhattan (Lebbeus Woods). Plans and manifestos are explored creatively through design experimentation that retrospectively repositions these representations from the perspectives offered by the Anthropocene. With an intricate connection between image, text, and installation, the book is an open invitation to radically interconnected imagination. Geologics advocate for architecture to become a productive and fluid mediation between city and geology. They propose a reconfiguration of urban territories as resilient hybrid possibilities amongst accelerated change and large-scale geoengineering.

Lamberhurst
There are a multitude of references of Lamberhurst, in many excellent books and many detailed subject short stories. However, after completing a history of the house that I lived in, at Coggers Cottage on The Broadway, Lamberhurst, I felt that the village lacked a book that recorded its history of the village and the development of its industries, in an easy-to-read format that could be used to share as many people as possible. So that is what I have attempted to do.The written word is our ancestry, but I also believe the old adage 'a picture tells a thousand stories', so therefore where possible, I have included as many illustrations as possible as I could.My reference list is long, and I acknowledge the research of my author sources, for that reason I regard myself of not as a soloist, but as the conductor of a large orchestra of talent, in the hope of producing a piece of work that readers will find interesting.Finally, I wish to record my thanks to the residents of the village who, I have not lived here for fifty years, and I am very much a newcomer, have been friendly and I regard them as my friends.
