Shortlisted for the Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion 2023A place of incarceration and liberation, political debate and historical denial, the H Block cell units of Long Kesh/Maze prison in Northern Ireland housed members of both Republican and Loyalist military groups during 'The Troubles' and are now considered 'icons' of that conflict. The H Block's dual status as an articulation of and resistance against power mean that the area is still one of the most contested sites of conflict in Europe.Based on a long-standing site-specific investigation, anddrawing on a range of sources from architectural plans to photographs of street protests, H Blocks explores the material relationship between the prison as a built articulation of power and its inhabitants, highlighting the ethical and political roles that architecture can play in situations of conflict. Habitat, Urbanism, Housing and Sustainability
Since the Conference on Human Settlements, HABITAT II, organized by the UN in Istanbul, Turkey, in June 1996, known as the Cities Summit, a process was launched to identify urban actions that produce improvements in the sustainability of cities. At the HABITAT III Summit, 20 years later, held in Quito, Ecuador in 2015, each country brought its National Report, on environmental problems associated with habitat and housing. Correspondingly, the United Nations Organization on the subject, approved the New Urban Agenda, (NAU), the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, which has 17 Goals, (ODS), of which goal 11, is focused on sustainable cities and communities, respectively. The SDGs, therefore, constitute by themselves a roadmap, a common thread that can help to re-establish priorities for a sustainable recovery at a historical moment. Creating evaluation and diagnosis dossiers of the SDGs in habitat, cities and housing, from academia to society is relevant, there are no experiences in this direction and open new paths for innovation and research.

Computer Architecture and Organisation
Two fundamental concepts in the study of computer systems are Computer Architecture and Computer Organisation. The term architecture refers to attributes from the programmer's point of view, and therefore has a direct impact on the logical execution of a programme. The term organisation refers to the operating units and their interconnections. In this way, the same architecture can be implemented through different organisations. The architecture of a computer system establishes the model of the organisation and operation of a processing system, with all its parts, divided into sections, interacting with each other. The components and their relationships are represented through hierarchical systems, which is ideal for studying complex assemblies that act at different levels; separated by their characteristics, we will study the functioning of each of these components. The basic functions of a computer are data processing, data storage, data transfer and control. To perform these functions, the computer needs to execute a set of instructions (programme).

Chalk Farm Railway Lands
With the opening of the London and Birmingham Railway in 1837, the first inter-city railroad to London, the capital was connected to the industrial heartlands of England, with the railway supporting the fast growing metropolis in the rapid movement of goods. A passenger terminus was established at Euston, served initially by the Winding Vaults, steam-powered rope traction from Camden. Robert Stephenson's role was central to the building of the Chalk Farm Railway Lands (CFRL) and to their surviving infrastructure and he is celebrated in this account. The goods terminus was located at Camden Town on the Regent's Canal, which provided an essential connection with the London Docks and hence to trade with the rest of the world. Camden Station was a pioneer in promoting goods interchange between rail, road and canal networks. Geographically CFRL comprise a central body with a head and a tail. The tail is the incline from Camden to Euston; the head the cutting from the Regent's Park Road Bridge to the Primrose Hill Tunnel. The body is an area bounded by Chalk Farm Road, Regent's Park Road, Gloucester Avenue and the Regent's Canal. This area housed the goods yard, locomotive sheds, warehouses, stables and other infrastructure, as well as associated rolling stock, attracting industry and commerce to the area. Historically, the book charts the growth during the 19th century, the competition for trade, the later consolidation, the weakness between the wars, the high age of steam, and the subsequent decline under pressure from road transport. It examines the operations of a goods depot, the essential support role played by the horse, and how activities in the Railway Lands affected the neighbourhood. From being transported along the main line railway between Primrose Hill Tunnel and Euston, the story deviates into the many sidings at Camden Goods Station and branches onto the North London Railway to connect with the Docks. The journey is one through both time and space and explores a number of side tracks. W & A Gilbey, the wine and spirits merchant, occupied a vital part of this railway infrastructure for almost 100 years and was a major employer in Camden. The story of Gilbey's Camden operations, intimately connected with CFRL, is told for the first time. The emphasis in this account is on the infrastructure created, rather than on tractive power or rolling stock. Simon Bradley expresses it admirably (The Railways, 2016): "For those that have been initiated, a unique allure resides in the fabric and architecture of the railways, rather than in the trains themselves." After the demise of steam, the CFRL area endured years of uncertainty. In the new millennium it has become an immense construction site where a world of glass, steel and concrete is rising above the rich historical features that represent arguably the most important railway heritage complex in the country. The last chapters of the book unite this new development with an appreciation and celebration of our industrial heritage. They look to the future and revealing to the public what is currently largely hidden underground and hence unappreciated. While the area remains extraordinarily rich in historical features it is not always easy to tease out the threads that link past and present. For those who will live, work or pass through this unfolding panorama or those interested in transport, railways or local history the book provides these threads, showing through an extensive and unique collection of images how these features have evolved.

Noguchi's Gardens
While sculpture remained central to his artistic practice, Isamu Noguchi's (1904-1988) interests and production spanned an exceptionally broad terrain that included furniture and lamps, stage sets for dance, plazas, courtyards--and gardens. Noguchi made no distinction between design, craft, and the so-called fine arts: in his view all of these could all be considered art should their aesthetic qualities sufficiently transcend those generated by the simple address of need. Although his gardens include several of the twentieth century's most iconic landscape designs and have received almost universal praise, Noguchi nonetheless occupies a place removed from the normal practice of landscape architecture. As an artist he relied more on intuition--bolstered by focused study where required--than on objective analysis, and he shaped his landscapes as sculpture, with space as their primary vehicle. To Noguchi landscape design was a spatial and formal art, and from his earliest environmental projects to the works of his later maturity, he succeeded in conceiving and constructing a series of remarkable places. In this comprehensive and richly illustrated study of Noguchi's gardens, noted landscape historian Marc Treib describes and critiques projects that date from his early unrealized projects for playgrounds and monuments to a large park in Sapporo, Japan, whose construction was completed only posthumously. The story begins with the discussion of Noguchi sculpture that relate in some way to actual landscapes, then moves to the dance set designs for Martha Graham, finally entering the realm of actual landscapes with his gardens for the Reader's Digest offices in Tokyo and UNESCO House in Paris. San Ignacio Guaz繳, First Jesuit Reduction, Jewel of Heritage
The Jesuit Reductions of Paraguay (1609-1768), were settlements of Guarani Indians, promoted by the fathers of the Society of Jesus in the lands conquered by Portugal and Spain, with the desire to safeguard their identity as people and vassals of the crown, these reductions, were a set of thirty villages founded in South America in the seventeenth century. San Ignacio Guaz繳, in Paraguay, was the first to be founded in 1609, being one of the most outstanding and prosperous Jesuit missions of the colonial period. With the expulsion of the Jesuits in 1767, this Jesuit Reduction, like others, entered a period of abandonment and deterioration, which threatened the integrity of the real estate, endangering its patrimonial value. Unfortunately, this legacy of history and culture is still ignored by a percentage of the general population and by the lack of effectiveness of policies to protect the historical and cultural heritage. The proposal of the text, as a methodological procedure, guarantees each step to follow for the restoration and/or conservation of real estate of heritage value in San Ignacio Guaz繳.
The use of colour in psychology clinics for adults
This study sought to study colours and their effects on the human being in order to understand how they work and apply their properties to interior design for a psychology clinic, given that humanisation in the healthcare sector is gradually growing, as it contributes to patient improvement. One of the ways to achieve this is through the use of colour, as it has the ability to provide feelings of well-being for both patients and those involved in the individual's recovery process, if used with knowledge. Without claiming to cure the sick, we are going to use it in Interior Design as an aid to the treatment of patients, who will be diagnosed by the Psychology professional, and who can find in colours an adjunct to this process.
Designing San Francisco
A major urban history of the design and development of postwar San Francisco Designing San Francisco is the untold story of the formative postwar decades when U.S. cities took their modern shape amid clashing visions of the future. Divergences Architecture in Latin America and Discourses of the End of the Century
Thinking about the ethos of contemporary Latin American architecture leads to identifying broad and flexible study categories. The position that contemporarily recognizes osmosis, hybridization - Garc穩a Canclini's concept, whose erroneous assimilation in architecture has been criticized by Felipe Hern獺ndez -, and trans-modernity - according to Argentine Enrique Dussel - disengages in many moralizing (and polar-izing!) academic works from the beginning of the second decade of the twenty-first century. It poses a fictitious situa-tion. In the words of Silvia Rivera-Cusicanqui, what happens in our territory is not a miscegenation but a coexistence of heterogeneous phenomena (around the colonizer and the colonized) that do not aspire to fuse nor produce new terms. However, considering that precolonial America was not homogeneous a priori, this coexistence (or overlap) of several Latin Americas might be the original condition of our subcontinent.Amid the undeniable coexistence of multiple Latin American realities, and without detracting from the just claims of the indigenous' vindication in the intellectual and physical construction of our territory, negotiation is funda-mental. This word, mainly in war conflict scenarios, implies tolerance and mutual surrender to achieve conciliation and avoid the oppressive tendency of those who Tuck and Wayne Yang call "empowered postcolonial subjects." In my opinion, this conciliatory attempt is present in most intellectual constructions of Latin American architecture, during the threshold of the immediate previous century. Many contem-porary academics are not open today to this negotiation, under the pretext of repeating the colonizing cycle. However, it seems to me still necessary in the light of Santiago Castro-G籀mez's thesis for whom "only by radicalizing universality, that is, universalizing its 'point of exclusion', can the decol-onizing movement achieve its objectives." Castro-G籀mez's proposal implies a recognition of the vulnerability of the other, whether white, black, or indigenous, and of that which minimally reverberates from its ethos (despite Rivera's affir-mation) in our current architectural thinking and making.It is in this context of coexistence and negotiation, not only between native cultures and North Atlantic Treaty Organization - NATO-centric doctrines but between diverse Latin American imaginaries that collide in sometimes violent and sometimes fortunate ways- that the architectural discourses enunciated in this book unfold. Given the scarcity of works that transversally address the discursive panorama of contemporary Latin American architecture, particularly in the twilight of the twentieth century, my purpose as co-author and editor is to elaborate a retrospective and unsuspecting exercise from which, through divergent Latin American voices, common discursive lines emerge.
