Ed Fox II

Then he became the official foot photographer for Leg Show magazine, and learned of the thousands of men just like him and the glorious legacy of foot fetish photographers before him, not least the great Elmer Batters.Since then, Fox has become famed the world over for his sensual photographic style that captures every curve of a woman's body, right down to the tips of her toes. In Ed Fox II he brings us voluptuous new models, arresting locations--many blending the desert landscapes of Southern California with Fox's passion for automobiles--and fantasies mild to extra spicy, all shot in warm, caressing natural light. Sperm Whales
For centuries, we have been fascinated by the sperm whale--the world's largest toothed predator. Now you can experience an intimate underwater journey to connect with these majestic and gentle goliaths. Inspired by a life-changing childhood experience, Gaelin Rosenwaks set off on a journey to tell the story of sperm whale families through photography and film. In the waters off Dominica, she observed--eye to eye--the close bond between mother and child firsthand. What she found is that these animals live in matriarchal family units made up of remarkable females that stay together for generations. Like elephants and humans, they take care of one another. Rosenwaks's years as a marine biologist, diver, and underwater filmmaker and photographer prepared her to tell this beautifully stirring story with never-before-seen photographs of the world's most marvelous ocean species.

Okavango and the Source of Life
Gorgeous photos, detailed maps, and a moving personal narrative narrate grueling expeditions to the source of Africa's famous Okavango Delta, a sanctuary of biodiversity. Explorers discover signs of Angola's ghost elephants--presumed extinct after decades of civil war but now reappearing in the highlands wilderness. Follow intrepid explorer Steve Boyes as he leads the National Geographic Okavango Wilderness Project, documenting the little-known lakes and rivers flowing through central Africa to the vast Okavango, a region supporting the world's largest elephant population as well as lions, cheetahs, and hundreds of bird species. For miles on end of twisting waterways and leech-filled swamps, Boyes and his fellow explorers pole their flatboats with only satellite imagery and hippo trails to guide them. Sometimes they must drag their boats through dense bush or mud-thick waters. An angry hippo threatens to overturn the caravan; swarms of bees dive-bomb explorers' ears and eyelashes. In Angola, closed off by war for decades, the team tracks ghost elephants--a subspecies thought to have disappeared forever. By day they press on, by night they camp under the stars. Lions roar and hyenas howl in the distance. Locals become friends and fellow travelers--guardians of the rivers, sharing generational knowledge of these waters they call the "source of life." With more than 100 photographs and maps, including a foreword by Prince Harry and portraits of local wisdom keepers, this beautiful book provides a glimpse of primeval wilderness still thriving on the planet--and the grit of explorers determined to preserve it.

Written at the dawn of the twentieth century, this collection stands at the crossroads of photographic art history and literary exploration, offering a rare glimpse into the minds of early photography enthusiasts as they journey through the wilds and wonders of turn-of-the-century America. He created the images using two analogue processes, one with a paper negative, the other produced using a complex colour-reversal process.

The Asian Series
The Asian Series is a contemplative photographic book by Phyllis Crowley that explores landscape as memory, perception, and quiet spiritual encounter. Originating from a 2003 journey to the Huangshan Mountains in China, the series reflects Crowley's sustained engagement with Asian landscape painting and its visual philosophies-particularly the use of mist, fog, water, and negative space to suggest what is felt rather than fully seen.Photographing mountain pines enveloped in cloud, Crowley recognized resonances with classical Chinese ink brush painting. This discovery shaped a formal approach that privileges softness, tonal restraint, and atmospheric ambiguity. Subsequent travels through Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Laos extended the series, and upon returning home, Crowley applied the same aesthetic lens to landscapes in Connecticut, Cape Cod, and beyond. The result is a body of work that quietly bridges continents, revealing a shared sensibility across disparate geographies.Throughout the series, Crowley focuses on natural interfaces-fog, haze, reflection, shadow-that both obscure and reveal. These elements function as metaphors for memory and time, softening the contours of place and experience. The photographs resist spectacle and scale, instead inviting slow looking and introspection. Trees dissolve into calligraphic gestures; water becomes ink; branches hover between presence and disappearance. Human figures are absent, yet human presence is felt beyond the frame, underscoring a fragile balance between nature and perception.Essays and reflections situate the work within traditions of Asian landscape art, drawing parallels to Tang Dynasty poetry and the philosophy of "mountain-water" painting, where emptiness carries meaning and atmosphere becomes structure. At the same time, the series subtly resonates with contemporary concerns about environmental fragility and the accelerating loss of equilibrium between humanity and the natural world.Neither documentary nor purely abstract, The Asian Series offers photographs that speak softly and demand attentiveness. It is a meditation on looking, remembering, and the spaces between clarity and mystery-an invitation to pause, breathe, and enter a more intimate relationship with landscape.

Grant Castner
In July 2019, staff of the New Jersey State Museum visited a cramped and dusty storage locker in Hunterdon County. Inside was a treasure trove of more than one thousand glass plate negatives. Each negative preserved an image of New Jersey at the turn of the 20th century. They once belonged to a Trenton resident who had used the plates as tools for his chosen art form. His name was Grant Castner. His art was photography. Castner's glass plate negatives are a visual record of New Jersey's social and cultural history. His many human subjects are rich and poor, young and old, Black and white. They are at work, at play, at home, and in the community. Castner also documented social change brought about by electricity, engineering, education, industry, and transportation. He captured the excitement of public amusements such as parades and fairs. He recorded the aftermath of floods, fires and other disasters. Castner also had a fondness for the outdoors. He used his camera to reflect on the beauty and tranquility that he found in the natural landscapes of New Jersey. This book presents the collective work of Grant Castner, an amateur artist whose place in New Jersey history was, until now, completely unknown. His photographic negatives forever preserve pinpoint moments in the past. They are time machines to another era. Let this long lost archive transport you on a visual journey into a New Jersey of days gone by.

On the Road with on the Road
A photographic accompaniment to On the Road by Jack Kerouac. Robert Frank's The Americans redefined photography in 1959 and inspired Carl Moore to hit the road with Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Like Frank, Moore sought to reveal America to Americans--capturing the landscapes, faces, and fleeting moments that echo Kerouac's metaphorical vision. From Denver, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Los Angeles to a cross-country drive with his son from Santa Fe to New England, Moore retraces Sal Paradise's footsteps with his Nikon in hand. The result is a vivid, contemporary counterpart to Kerouac's masterpiece--where the photographs themselves feel restless, alive, and haunted by the same hunger for the open road. As Jim Sampas notes in his Foreword, "It isn't often that something comes in that excites me as much as this project." These images remind us of the beauty and variety of human experience, the thrill of movement, and the quiet grace of stillness. Paired with passages from On the Road, they invite us to see Kerouac's America anew--and to feel again the irresistible pull of the road.
Exposure
A photograph captures a fleeting visual in time. A split second on either side can change the result entirely: the exact moment of exposure is critical. More than simply a static image, a photograph has the power to evoke emotion, revealing both the seen and the unseen. In her latest collection, curator Amber Creswell Bell explores the work of forty contemporary photographers, including Leila Jeffreys, Bill Henson, and Kara Rosenlund. Each artist shares insights into their practice, ranging from the whimsical to the wild, addressing subjects as diverse as the environment, motherhood, and identity. Some point and shoot; others meticulously curate a scene, but they all strive for creative connection with the viewer through this common medium. Exposure captures the essence of modern photography, showcasing bold perspectives, striking landscapes, and intimate portraits that reflect cultural richness and natural beauty.

Ancient Egypt
Ancient Egypt: A Journey down the Nile is a photographic celebration of the wonders of the kingdom of the Pharoahs, from Philae and Karnak in the south to Memphis, the pyramids at Giza, and finally the Nile delta itself. The extraordinary civilization of ancient Egypt could not have existed without the Nile, which rises in the Ethiopian Highlands and sub-Saharan Africa. In life, the ancient Egyptians were tied to an area of at most a few kilometres either side of the great river. Even in death, the Ancient Egyptians where never far from the river. Many of the most famous archaeological sites - the pyramids at Giza, the Valley of the Kings, the step pyramid at Saqqara, and the royal cult temples at Deir al-Bahri - lie within, beside, or on top of the cliffs created by the immense past flows of the River Nile. Ancient Egypt: A Journey Down the Nile follows the course of the river from south to north, illuminating ancient Egyptian history through the patchwork of temples, tombs and pyramids to either side. The Egyptian state began with unification under southern Egyptian kings around 3100 BC and it started its final decline in the north around the great city of Alexandria, established in 331 BC by Alexander the Great. Engaging and illustrated throughout with more than 180 photographs, Ancient Egypt: Journey Down the Nile is a vivid pictorial exploration of 4,000 years of Ancient Egyptian civilization from the river that gave life to the region.

Ireland: The Emerald Isle presents 150 outstanding photographs celebrating the island's most evocative and beautiful places, whether in nature or man-made, from the miles of near empty beaches to the Mourne Mountains in County Down, from the pretty fishing towns of County Cork to Dublin's elegant Georgian streets. Featuring images from both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the book ranges widely across landscapes and history, from rugged cliffs and rolling hills to mysterious stone circles, magnificent cathedrals and ruined abbeys; and from medieval forts and castles to grand Victorian follies and villages abandoned during the Potato Famine. While some images such as the striking basalt columns of the Giant's Causeway may be familiar, others you may know only from Game of Thrones and the Star Wars films but never realized that they, too, were in Ireland. Presented with captions explaining the story behind each entry, Ireland: The Emerald Isle is a stunning collection of images celebrating the island's natural beauty, culture and history.

Rock 'n' Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip
The 1967 Sunset Strip exploded with rock culture as giant hand-painted billboards became temporary monuments to music's coming of age--visual celebrations beginning with The Doors that captured the revolutionary spirit of an era. The Sunset Strip, circa 1967. Buffalo Springfield called it right: "There's something happening here...what it is ain't exactly clear." What was happening then is now absolutely clear. Rock 'n' roll and the kids who lived it were coming of age--right there on The Strip. And, as if to define the era, a few independent minds in the music industry posted giant, temporary monuments that said it all. Billboards. Bigger than life. Hand-painted homages to rock. The Doors led the way. It seemed that billboards would chronicle rock forever. In Rock 'n' Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip, author/photographer Robert Landau showcases these signs of the time, a time when rock was the most important music ever recorded, when youth, politics, and art merged to turn counterculture into mainstream culture. Landau was right there, a kid destined to be a professional photographer, shooting his first pictures. Decades later, he rediscovered his Kodachromes, the only extensive collection of photographs that document those iconic billboards. Impassioned, he interviewed the artists, record producers, and designers who shaped those placards, bringing fresh insight to the culture of the day and its lasting impact on the world. He tells it like it was, through the people who lived the music, the time, the energy...and the billboards. A must for every rock lover, pop-art aficionado, and socio-culture freak, Rock 'n' Roll Billboards of the Sunset Strip is a coffee-table book to read and reread, view and review, a book with a beginning and, perhaps tragically, an end. Yes, the true rock 'n' roll billboard era ended, but Robert Landau has created a bound museum of its best artwork, a gallery that shows what was happening there. On the Sunset Strip.
Thinking Twice
Photo essays of unsettling beauty, ethics, and perception.Thinking Twice is a provocative photographic meditation on food, beauty, and ethical tension. Over a decade of travel through markets in Asia, Europe, Mexico, and the United States, photographer Phyllis Crowley captured intensely cropped images of meat, fish, and organic matter that hover between abstraction and documentation.Devoid of conventional context, these photographs seduce the eye with sumptuous color, pattern, and texture, only to reveal-upon closer inspection-the raw realities of consumption, mortality, and environmental strain. Essays by critic Zachary Fine and artist-curator Deborah Hesse frame the work within broader conversations about the "ugly sublime," sustainability, and the cultural rituals surrounding food.Neither didactic nor purely aesthetic, Thinking Twice challenges viewers to hold opposing truths at once: attraction and repulsion, beauty and violence, nourishment and loss. The result is a powerful visual experience that asks us to look beyond the plate and reconsider how food reflects our values, cultures, and relationship to the natural world.Published by OctoberWorks and designed by Jeanne Criscola, Thinking Twice embodies the imprint's commitment to intentional, design-forward publishing. It is a meditation on seeing - urging us, as the title suggests, to "think twice" to hold death and beauty, ethics and aesthetics, in our minds at once.

Waits/Corbijn
Now back in print, this stunning, award- winning visual odyssey encapsulates the essence of Tom Waits' enigmatic persona and Anton Corbijn's distinctive photographic style. Spanning over three decades, this extraordinary book showcases the enduring collaboration between a legendary musician and a renowned Dutch photographer--a creative symbiosis that has produced some of the most memorable images in rock and roll history. Structured chronologically, it traces Waits' evolution as an artist alongside Corbijn's development as a photographer whose starkly evocative images capture Waits in a multitude of settings, from gritty urban landscapes to intimate studio sessions. Through Corbijn's lens, Waits emerges not just as a musician but as a multifaceted character, embodying the spirit of the troubadour, the poet, and the raconteur. A final section features Waits' own photography along with poems, stories, and collages. As Jim Jarmusch comments in the introduction, "A collection of images of Tom Waits seen through the eyes of Anton Corbijn is something special, some kind of vortex, an axis of evil geniuses." Tom Waits fans, photography enthusiasts, and anyone seeking insight into the joy of collaboration will find much to discover in this inspiring partnership between two artistic visionaries and friends.
Lake Verea: Modern Barrag獺n
A diaristic archive of pilgrimages to Luis Barrag獺n's modernist abode In this intimate archive, the contemporary Mexican photographer duo Lake Verea record their pilgrimages, made over the course of nearly two decades, to the house of Mexican architect Luis Barrag獺n (1902-88). As devotees of the architect, the duo began photographing the modernist mecca in 2006, endeavoring to approach as closely as possible to Barrag獺n's spirit. The artists sat in his chairs, opened his closets, listened in silence and kissed in the house's enchanted garden. Modern Barrag獺n compiles the fruits of their reverent labor. The photographs capture the house across a myriad of atmospheric conditions--in daylight, under the light of the full moon, by streetlight and against stormy skies. Flash photography lends the house a spectral quality; rubbed with aluminum sheets, the walls reveal their hidden textures, evoking the hidden memories contained within the home. As a spiritual sequel to the couple's photobook on Anni and Josef Albers, also published by Hatje Cantz, Modern Barrag獺n is a one-of-a-kind yet double-sided look into the hidden facets behind the legendary name. Based in Mexico City, Lake Verea comprises Francisca Rivero-Lake Cortina (born 1973) and Carla Verea Hern獺ndez (born 1978). Their "expanded photography" practice incorporates both analog and digital formats as well as mediums including textiles and performance.
A Singular People
A pictorial view of the Separatist community of Zoar The community of Zoar has been a tourist attraction since it was founded in 1817, due in part to its uncommon experiment in Christian communal living, its German heritage, and its location on the Ohio & Erie Canal. Unlike many 19th-century communal societies, Zoar did not discourage tourism and "gawkers." As a result, there is an unusually rich photographic record of the community and its people as well as many descriptions and comments by writers who wished to share their impressions of the Old World town. Tourists snapped photos of themselves riding on haywagons, boating on Zoar Lake, and walking in the Zoar Separatists' symbolic garden. The Zoarites themselves got into the act as well, taking commercial photos of themselves and their town to be sold as postcards. Fernandez uses many previously unpublished photographs from the Ohio Historical Society's collections and captions them with the words of journalists, diarists, and other visitors. Today a restored village with a ten-museum complex operated by the Ohio Historical Society, Zoar has consciously maintained its German roots. Zoar continues to attract the curious individual, the traveler, the day-tripper, and the magazine and newspaper writers..
