Stefen Chow & Huiyi Lin: The Poverty Line
What does it mean to be poor? An ambitious visual anthropology of diet and poverty in 36 case studies across the worldTo demonstrate what it means to live at the poverty line, Beijing-based artist duo Stefen Chow and Huiyi Lin visited 36 countries and territories on six continents--from Germany and China to New York and London--examining poverty with regard to food. From local markets, they bought vegetables, fruits, cereal products, proteins and snacks, basing the amount of food they could afford per day on the respective poverty-line definition set by each government. The duo photographed the resulting food, placed on a page of a local newspaper bought that day, calibrating lighting and shooting distance to ensure uniformity and comparability. In addition, the duo selected nine foods available in most of the economies observed to illustrate the globalization of production and the variations in prices and consumption. With this brilliantly conceived project, Chow and Lin render the problem of poverty visible and comprehensible to all.

I've been an amateur photographer since 1999 when I received my first camera, a Nikon N70, from my dad. I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D80 but hope to upgrade soon. I never claim to be the next Ansel Adams or Weegee (checkout his work!) or be an expert in the technical aspects of my camera but I enjoy seeing what's out there. I recently published my first book, Through the Lens of Anxiety (Available Now!). I talk about how taking photos has helped me cope with anxiety and pushed me to face my fears while getting out in the world and enjoying life. It includes over 70 photos taken by me and even a 100-item scavenger hunt for people to get outside their own head and focus on what's in front of them. I was born and raised in the Bronx and currently live in Connecticut.

Der erste Teil ist eine systematische Erfassung der Rahmenbedingungen, die zum Eintritt der USA in den Krieg gef羹hrt haben. Die Einordnung in den kunsthistorischen Diskurs erfolgt im zweiten Abschnitt. Es gibt nur wenige kriegerische Auseinandersetzungen, die eine derartige mediale Aufmerksamkeit erreichten wie der Vietnamkrieg. Er hat Bilder hervorgebracht, die Preise gewonnen haben, vielfach diskutiert wurden und doch so eindr羹cklich die Verluste von Menschenleben und Infrastruktur dokumentieren. Der erste Teil dieser Qualifikationsarbeit widmet sich einer grundlegenden Einordnung des Vietnamkrieges in die amerikanische Geschichte. Milit瓣rische Konflikte bestimmen sowohl die Au?en- wie auch Innenpolitik der Vereinigten Staaten. Neben dem zu untersuchenden Vietnamkrieg lassen sich drei weitere Kriegseins瓣tze zeitlich einordnen. Coal Cultures
Coal is the commodity that powered the technologies that made the modern world. It also brought about unique communities marked by a high degree of social solidarity and self-help. Mining was central to working class life, drawing rural populations into industrial labour, but it often took place in picturesque landscapes, so that its black spoil heaps became a central symbol of the degradation of pastoral life by the demands of an extractive industry. Throughout Europe and the USA photographers have pictured the characteristic landscapes of the industry, and continue to do so as strip mining devastates huge areas of land. Not only landscape photography but also documentary, portraiture, photojournalism and art photography have been used in order to portray mines and miners. This book presents three interlinked strands of investigation. The first is the way in which the production of coal created paradigmatic communities grounded in particular landscapes. The second concerns the role of photography in exploring, delineating and critiquing mining communities. This in turn involves an examination of the aesthetic and social characteristics of a number of genres of photography. Lastly, it considers the growth and decline of these sites, the geographic shift of the industry to other places, and the re-presentation of traditional localities through the lens of the heritage industry and industrial tourism.

Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. This is a portfolio of a mixed bag of events, and objects that have caught my eye and been recorded as of interest to me. Ilford's old slogan "For Faces and Places," was very apt. It could take just sixty minutes to look through the book or you may want to look through sixty times who knows? It spans a sixty-year period of life which has passed by my lens. I have selected the most memorable ones, which are likely to mean more to viewers beyond the family circle so to speak. Photography can be so, so personal I have found. Many of these images can never be repeated. Some will stand the test of time better than others. I would like to think that British Amateur Photojournalism never dies and ordinary people such as myself can and will make the effort to continue recording for posterity. In black and white please, it has for me and many enthusiasts alike, an archaic charm that no other art form can beat.

ntorno alla met? degli anni Settanta in Italia, in sintonia con quanto accade in Europa e negli Stati Uniti, si diffondo le posizioni del nuovo femminismo, il femminismo della differenza. Questo rivoluzionario pensiero, incentrato sulla necessit? di ridefinire l'identit? della donna a prescindere da secoli di cultura maschile, ha forti ripercussioni (anche quando indirette) sulle ricerche di molte fotografe e artiste che ricorrono alla fotografia come mezzo ideale per condurre una riflessione identitaria o per testimoniare la condizione della donna, restituendone un racconto inedito, operando con una nuova consapevolezza del proprio fare e del proprio ruolo.
