Same Sun Same Moon
This elegant collaboration pairs Michael Kenna's luminous black-and-white landscapes with Pico Iyer's contemplative prose, tracing the parallels of two lives lived in motion. Though they didn't meet until they were both in their sixties, photographer Michael Kenna and writer Pico Iyer had been unknowingly following similar paths for decades. Both were born in England, studied near Oxford in the 1970s, moved to the U.S. West Coast, and fell in love with Japan. This book brings their work together in a profoundly personal collaboration: more than sixty of Kenna's prints, each accompanied by an essay both from Iyer and Kenna himself. Kenna's work--minimalist, often made in long exposure--captures fleeting moments of calm and clarity: a fog-bound canal in Venice, a deserted jetty in Mallorca, a line of trees dissolving into snow in Hokkaido.Spanning fifty years and five continents, these photographs offer meditations shaped by light, shadow, and quiet transformation. In prose that mirrors the restraint and depth of the images, Iyer writes about travel, childhood, coincidence, and the invisible threads that connect us.Beautifully printed and designed for slow reading and close looking, Same Sun Same Moon is a book for art lovers, writers, travelers, and anyone drawn to the subtle interplay of image and word, solitude and connection.

Utterly Lazy and Inattentive
A landmark visual memoir by of one of the world's most important photographers who straddles the worlds of fine art and popular culture. Brilliant, understated, enigmatic, transformative . . . as one of the world's leading documentary photographers, Parr is celebrated for observing, ironizing, questioning, and celebrating modern life and contemporary society, holding a mirror to the public. With a massive following on social media, Parr has legions of celebrity fans ranging from Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele to Elton John, who is such an enthusiast that Parr's photos were the backdrop for his recent tour. Unlike previous Parr books that focused on broad sociocultural themes, this volume is a carefully curated selection of Parr's images designed as a visual memoir. It showcases the depth and range of his work while exploring his life story, practice, and philosophy. Parr is unique: taken seriously by the art world yet enjoying mass popularity. In his bid to capture the brilliant, bittersweet absurdity of modern life, he has made art photography accessible with compositions of deadpan, mundane images rich in humor and irony.
Womanizer
Commanding, uninhibited women captured through Capozzi's provocative female lens. Capozzi has spent the past decade shaping an attitude in fashion and contemporary portraiture of women. Her images unbind the female form from tradition and honor its erotic power. Her lawless compositions interlace celebrity, the mundane, the absurd, and the surreal. There is an erotic interplay between photographer and subject, with both sides playfully exchanging power. Vibrant photographs of contemporary female icons, including Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Bella Hadid, Pam Anderson, Dua Lipa, Chlo禱 Sevigny, and Selena Gomez, along with less familiar faces from Capozzi's New York circle of friends and muses, celebrate a feminine point of view and disrupt the legacy of the female form being depicted for the male gaze. Capozzi's sophisticated camerawork weaves high fashion with saturated narratives, pop culture, her own handmade garments, and props. The images are enticing, glamorous, and unexpected.

Wonderland of Wind and Sand
Through poetry and photography, Wonderland of Wind and Sand celebrates the extraordinary and awe-inspiring Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado. Sweeping views of the sand dunes are counterbalanced by finite details such as beetle tracks in the sand. Award-winning photographer Jean E. Sidinger's photos and her heartfelt poetic messages enhance each other with the turn of every page.Forty-four down-to-earth poems vary from inspiring, to playful, to thought-provoking. They take the concept of the park beyond the visual to a personalized articulated interpretation. Readers will climb High Dune as they read "The Ascent," sense euphoria over the bold autumn leaves against a cobalt sky as they visit the island or explore the Montville Trail, and be moved to empathy for creatures facing blizzard conditions.Sidinger made repeat visits to the park over a period of more than forty-some years-visits that included every season and contact with its lesser-known aspects. The diverse poems and over one hundred photographs created during those years make Wonderland of Wind and Sand a unique and invaluable treasure for both novices and those who know the park well.A portion of the proceeds from this book will benefit the Western National Parks Association.
Welcome to Bhutan
Bhutan has the reputation as being the happiest place in the world and prides itself on its index of Gross National Happiness. Whether Bhutan's claim to the happiness pedestal is hype, or verifiable fact, Bhutan is a remarkable place! A small country, Bhutan is nestled in the Himalayas between China, India, Tibet, and Nepal. Steeped in Buddhist tradition which commands respect for the environment and all creatures in it, discipline, and acceptance, Bhutan prides itself on basing its governmental decisions on their impact on the collective happiness of the country. Not that long ago, Bhutan was closed to the outside world, but as it has opened up to tourism, it has also worked hard to hold onto its traditions while trying to build the infrastructure to allow a balance of modernization and tradition. At least four factors contribute to Bhutan's charm and spirit: the place, the people, the culture, and the hopefulness that these elements will persist into the future as reflected through the children of Bhutan. This large format photobook explores these themes through four interdependent sections of fine art photographs shot in either full frame medium format or 35 mm and presented with accompanying native insights into Bhutan and Buddhism.

Pictures and Passages
I was introduced to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, when my parents retired here in 1998. Although I'm a lifelong resident of this state, I hadn't spent time on the coast as our family owned a lake house in New Hampshire where we spent weekends, summers, and vacations. I consider myself a lake lover at heart, but what an unexpected delight it was to fall in love with the beauty of Cape Cod's sea, sand, and sky nearly 30 years ago! We would eventually buy our own home here, and the rest is history. My passion for photography as both a hobby and profession is nourished on Cape Cod with the abundance of scenic landmarks and hidden gems the area has to offer. Come along with me as I meander along beaches, back roads, and bays and share with you not just the glory of local seascapes and landscapes, but my thoughts and reflections on life, love, and family. With two parents succumbing to Alzheimer's Disease-Mom in 2021 and Dad at just about the time this book went to press-I can only hope they are seeing this and, with pride and delight, are relishing the journey I've been on to get this book into enthusiastic hands!

While We Bleed
War photographer Jan Grarup and journalist/historian Adam Holm have documented the bloody struggle of the Ukrainians in the war with Russia. The war in Ukraine is the largest war Europe has seen since 1945. War photographer Jan Grarup and journalist/historian Adam Holm have documented the bloody struggle of the Ukrainians, in both the hinterland and on the front lines of eastern Ukraine (Zaporizjza, Donbas and Kharkiv). Through photography and reportage, they paint a picture of a country where death reaps its harvest daily. A country in which the fear of impending nuclear war is real and where an entire generation of children and adolescents carry iodine tablets and receive schooling inside basements and bunkers.
David Alekhuogie: A Reprise
In A Reprise, David Alekhuogie remixes Walker Evans's photographs of African art, provoking timely questions about authorship and authenticity. A Reprise, David Alekhuogie's first monograph, confronts the intriguing legacy of narrative and authorship behind Western presentations of African art, and poses timely questions about how Black aesthetics are circulated, accessed, valued, and interpreted today. In 1935, Walker Evans was commissioned by the Museum of Modern Art, New York, to photograph hundreds of African sculptures for the exhibition African Negro Art. Nearly ninety years later, Alekhuogie began investigating Evans's images, provocatively remixing them into his own vibrant and multilayered photographic collages. Transposing facsimiles of Evans's original images onto cardboard or paper structures of his own making, Alekhuogie rephotographs these image-sculptures against striking backdrops--often using East and West African textiles--thereby inviting multiple dimensions of viewership. Alekhuogie's images draw upon the musical idiom of the reprise--a performance of repetition--and stake a claim to crucial, restorative ideas around Black antiquity by questioning our relationship to what we consider fake or original, art or archive.
Jean Gaumy: A Certain Nature
Through his detailed investigations of flora and fauna, Gaumy devises an innovative view of Monet's Giverny gardenClaude Monet's garden at Giverny is famous the world over for its water lily pond, which gave rise to some of the artist's most dazzling paintings. Magnum photographer Jean Gaumy (born 1948) has had privileged access to Monet's garden for many years, allowing him to conduct photographic research inspired by his love of science and botany. Drawing from the joy he experienced in his family's garden while young, he has sought to re-create that childhood curiosity and sense of wonder through photography that is both abstract and naturalistic. Jean Gaumy's Giverny is not an atlas of forms, but rather a photographic experiment in documenting nature from different angles. In these otherworldly duotone photographs, Monet's storied garden becomes something out of time in compositions bordering on the pictorial in their documenting of microscopic details.
Michael Kenna: Silver Haikus
The influence of Asia's arts and culture on Michael Kenna's black-and-white landscapes, evoking everything from Zen gardening to Chinese calligraphySince his first visit to Japan in 1987, British photographer Michael Kenna (born 1953) has returned time and again to capture Asia's landscapes. The poetic power of Kenna's photographs and their ability to extract emotion from the landscape--from the dignity of a tree or a rock--has led some commentators to describe them as visual haikus.Silver Haikus provides a thematic retrospective of his work in Asia over the last 40 years. It explores the connection between his aesthetic and Asian art through formal dialogues between his photographs and works from the Chinese, Korean and Japanese collections of the Mus矇e Guimet. More specifically, this book observes the influence of Asian arts in Kenna's work: the choice of monochrome, the economy of means, the use of emptiness and the desire to suggest rather than describe evoke the ink paintings of Chinese scholars and Japanese Zen monks.

Having Fun With My Camera (Oak Grove Lake Park)
My Canon EOS 80D DSLR just arrived yesterday, and so I am out exploring. I want to see how it performs using the Macro setting and utilizing the zoom feature of the 18-135mm IS USM lens that came in the kit. These images are what I was able to create. No cropping, alterations or improvements; just resizing to fit on this page (4.67 x 7 inches). Normally, I crop and enlarge each photo of my books, but not today. I want to examine the photos and share my discoveries with you.Come with me as I explore Oak Grove Lake Park in March. I will talk about bokeh, blurry backgrounds and circles of light, the adjustable screen, how to combine focus with the shutter button on the touch screen, why background is so important, depth of field, the rule of thirds, perspective, angle, sunlight and shadows, finding odd things to share with viewers, and more. In this book, I give you more than simply a series of nature photos. I ask you to explore the image and find what is there besides the object I focused the camera on.

The Canadian Landscape / Le Paysage Canadien
"A lovely volume whose simplicity and elegance accentuate rather than overshadow this visual introduction to the beauty of Canada." --Photovision A flash of lightning explodes across a summer sky; a sudden winter storm descends on an otherwise tranquil coastal bay; in a moment of absolute stillness, the surface of a mirror-like lake reflects the world around it.
