Paul Mpagi Sepuya
Paul Mpagi Sepuya presents the work of one of the most prominent, up-and-coming photographers working today. Sepuya primarily makes studio photographs of friends, artists, collaborators, and himself, inviting viewers to consider the construction of subjectivity. He challenges and deconstructs traditional portraiture by way of collage, layering, fragmentation, mirror imagery, and the perspective of a black, queer gaze. In contrast to the slick artifice of contemporary portraiture, Sepuya suggests the human element of picture taking--fingerprints, smudges, dust on the surface of mirrors. He also allows glimpses into the studio setting--including tripods, backdrops, lenses, and the photographer himself--encouraging multivalent narrative reads of each image. For Sepuya, photography is a tactile and communal enterprise. Although the creation of artist books has been a long-standing part of his practice, Paul Mpagi Sepuya is the first publication of his work to be released widely, copublished with the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis on the occasion of a major solo exhibition.
Bridging the Mississippi
Bridging the Mississippi: Spans across the Father of Waters portrays in words and stunning photographs the manmade structures that cross the nation's most important and, during the mid-nineteenth century, most daunting natural waterway. Philip Gould spent three years photographing Mississippi River bridges, from the Crescent City Connection in New Orleans to the span of boulders at the river's headwaters in Lake Itasca, Minnesota. In The Last Resort, photographer Gary Monroe presents a collection of images that preserve his observations of this vanished time.After World War II, Jewish retirees from the Northeast--many of whom had come to America to escape Nazi Germany--found comfort, camaraderie, and culture in the sunny island city of Miami Beach. By the late 1950s, the population was 80% Jewish, and eventually the neighborhood of South Beach became home to a strong community of elderly Jews. A local who grew up in a Jewish household during this time, enchanted by the deep-rooted traditions and close-knit society of the older men and women he saw around him, Monroe set out to capture their world.Taken over the span of 10 years, Monroe's photographs chronicle the day-to-day activities of the community from sunrise to sunset. Harry Gruyaert

Jennifer Abramson's deep compassion for others led her to helping and feeding the homeless. Her goal was to enlighten, transform people's thinking, and spread faith and hope in the infinite possibilities of this life. She posted engaging photographs bound to clever, often surprising, and intriguing insights about them. This book captures those evanescent presentations in permanent form. It will make you laugh, giggle, smile, and maybe think about things that haven't occurred to you before. Jen passed away on November 26, 2016. This book includes both posed portraits and images taken during live performances of legendary musicians like Ray Charles, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis and Pat Metheny, as well as iconic figures such as Lou Reed, The Ramones, David Bowie, BB King, Sting and Chuck Berry. Caught on the Trail
Have you ever wondered what roams your backyard in the dead of night? Shares the same nature trail with you, or is living on the fringe of your rural property? We have. So, we trekked our property, at the base of a mountain in northern British Columbia, and set up game cameras to get our answer! Over a span of seven years, we captured rare photos of wolverines as they fed on a frozen carcass, a sow grizzly and her cub patrolling the trails, coyotes, wolves, and black bears in all colours and sizes as they frolicked, fought and raised young throughout the year. Predators and prey traversed the heavy wooded areas, open clearings, creek bottoms and wandered within a few feet of our house. By using this new innocuous technology we learned a tremendous amount about the private lives of wildlife and the struggles they face in the wild. This book will help the reader gain a better appreciation for the trials and tribulations of wild animals and how to use game cameras and respect the wildlife we seek to capture on camera.

The county of Essex is a county of contrasts, shaped by its geography and history. Early travellers had to cross numerous forested areas to reach the capital, the most famous of which is Epping Forest, site of Queen Elizabeth's hunting lodge, Waltham Abbey, gunpowder mills and the Saxon church at Greenstead, the oldest wooden church in the world. Water has also shaped Essex, travelling historically being easier down the rivers and along the coast than inland. Alongside many nature reserves are historic coastal towns such as Maldon and Harwich and resorts such as Southend. Inland, the Romans established their first capital of Britain in Colchester but today the county town is Chelmsford, granted city status in 2012. Theorie und Geschichte der Fotografie nach ihrem vermeintlichen Ende, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Diese Arbeit versucht zu verdeutlichen, dass die Chronofotografie als Vorreiter einen Einfluss auf die heutige Technik des Motion Capture darstellt und wo sich dieser wiederfinden l瓣sst. Die Bewegung und das bildliche Festhalten eines lebendigen, beweglichen K繹rpers stellt seit Beginn der Lichtbildkunst eine Herausforderung an die Fotografie. Diese diente eigentlich zum Festhalten der Stillstellung der lebendigen K繹rperlichkeit. Dennoch entstand im neunzehnten Jahrhundert der Wunsch, durch eine Momentaufnahme nicht nur eine Bewegung, sondern diese in ihrer Ganzheit aufzeichnen zu können. Um diesen Weg nachzuzeichnen, bedarf es zun瓣chst einer genaueren Betrachtung der Entwicklung der Anf瓣nge der Reihenfotografie. Anschlie?end sollen die verschiedenen M繹glichkeiten der Erfassung und Verarbeitung von Bewegungen beim Motion Capture verdeutlicht werden und am Beispiel der Figur des "Gollum" im Film "The Lord of the Rings" exemplarisch dargestellt werden, da es sich hierbei um eine der bekanntesten Anwendung des Motion Capture handelt.

My job as a photographer is not to direct or manipulate a picture, it's to capture something that presents itself to me. The architecture, light, shapes and people have to come together in a special way within the boundaries of my viewfinder. A good photograph is the culmination of life lived, books read, music heard, food eaten, and experiences had. New Orleans Portrayed represents thousands of hours of wandering and wondering, with good days and bad light, with bad days with good light. Photographers don't find the picture, pictures find the photographer. As Walker Evans said, "Good photography is unpretentious." These ideas continue to inspire and drive my work.

In 2012 I bought my first Canon and started my way. This book contains three years of my life, my adventures in 180 pages. I have been traveling around the world during this period. The book is about me exploring new places, new ways of doing, new cultures through the numerous men it contains. Some people take selfies in front of the Eiffel Tower and the Great Wall to remember their trips. I myself have Juan, Florian, Roberto, and many others. The most important thing I learned - to let yourself be imperfect. We are not here to have the perfect bodies, the perfect bank accounts, the perfect jobs, and the perfect spouse. We are here to heal our hearts. To love and to accept ourselves for who we are.Fedya Ili was born in USSR in 1980. Cosmopolite (lived in Moscow, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Thailand, Kyiv, Lisbon, Saint Petersburg). Eighteen years of experience in art-direction of glossy magazines and web, interior, graphic design, brought him in 2012 to the decision -- devote himself to figurative art (fine art and photography) that was a changing point in his life. Exploring people's emotions in relation, studying and understanding these as part of human nature is the main issue of art. Learning from Leonardo's human body studies to Caravaggio's and Rodin's physical and emotional human state and character, to Mapplethorpe's sexuality research, he is developing these cases further.
