Cash Holdings of Canadian Public Companies

In this context, we examine the period from 1988 to 2021, following closely the approach of Bates. The main question is whether the findings from the literature are transferable to Canadian companies or if there are differences. To address this question, we will first briefly review the literature for the theoretical background in chapter 2, which we will refer to in our later empirical analysis. In chapter 3, we outline the composition and origin of our dataset, as well as the methodology. Chapter 4 looks at the development of cash and leverage holdings over the whole period. Section 5 examines whether there are sub-population specific differences in our dataset. In chapter 6, we utilize regression models of the cash ratios to see which corporate indicators have an impact on the cash ratios. Section 7 considers whether the agency theory has an impact on cash holdings. We conclude in chapter 8. Cash holdings are one of the most important components of a company. As the cash holdings of U.S. companies have increased remarkably over the last decades, the question arises whether this is also true for the geographic neighboring country Canada. Therefore, this thesis analyzes the corporate cash holdings of Canadian public companies. While the cash holdings of U.S. companies are well studied on a broad scale in the finance literature and Opler, there are only a few publications on Canada.

China's Stock Market. Impact of Investor's Sentiment on Returns of Stocks

The survey used both granger causality and the OLS regression techniques to analyze the data. Accordingly, the findings from the study have revealed that investor sentiment has a remarkable positive impact on stock market returns by examining Treasury bills, consumer price index, and industrial production index. Also, the study has unfolded that unidirectional causality operates from investor sentiment to stock market returns. Reportedly, the study has established that stockholder sentiments have relatively lower explanatory power to returns on the stock market. Finally, this study posits the presence of dynamic correlation between the action of stock future returns and investor sentiment in China causes an increase in stock prices.

Certain limitations and difficulties of monetary policy were clearly revealed in the period of monetary restraint which ended in late 1957 and these, together with some indication of the direction towards further improvement, are outlined in a new final chapter. Bank of Canada Operations and Policy is the most detailed examination of the growth of Canada's central bank that has yet been made and will be useful to all those concerned with central banking and monetary policy.

Fair Taxation in a Changing World
The Ontario Fair Tax Commission has challenged the trend in tax reform by focusing on fairness instead of exclusively on changes necessary to promote economic efficiency. In the first general inquiry into taxation in 25 years, the 10-member commission has made recommendations that represent fundamental change in the structure of the province's tax system.Taken together, the recommendations call for a strong endorsement of a more progressive tax system.In rethinking the tax mix, the commission came to the conclusion that changes should be made to improve the relationship between taxes and the ability to pay, and to make the overall system more progressive.Recommendations are made concerning all the major sources of provincial revenue, including a major overhaul of the property tax. The commission also discusses the potential role for wealth taxes and environmental taxes in a reformed Ontario tax system. However, the limits both Ontario and Canada face in the taxation of sources of income that are mobile, such as capital, are real and cannot be ignored. As a result, the commission has taken into consideration the constraints faced by Ontario as a subnational jurisdiction in an open economy currently undergoing significant structural change.
