In Deutschland sowie vielen anderen Staaten wurde eine Vielzahl von Arbeitskr瓣ften entweder in Kurzarbeit geschickt oder entlassen. Trotz der massiven Hilfsprogramme der Staatsregierungen wird eine Reihe von Unternehmen der Insolvenz nicht entkommen k繹nnen. Um dieser Entwicklung entgegenzuwirken, haben die namhaften Notenbanken wie die Federal Reserve und die Europ瓣ische Zentralbank Rettungspakte beschlossen. Derartige Entwicklungen werfen im makro繹konomischen Kontext die Frage auf, ob sich inflation瓣re Tendenzen herauskristallisieren k繹nnten. Im ersten Teil dieser wissenschaftlichen Ausarbeitung wird daher die theoretische Grundstruktur der Inflationsentstehung analysiert. In diesem Zuge werden unterschiedliche Szenarien expliziert, denen eine Inflationstendenz inh瓣rent ist. Im zweiten Teil werden die gewonnen theoretischen Erkenntnisse in praxisnahen Bezug gestellt. Zun瓣chst wird die deutsche Hyperinflation von 1913 bis 1923 n瓣her betrachtet und einer detaillierten Ursachenanalyse unterzogen, um im Anschluss daran m繹gliche Gemeinsamkeiten zur heutigen Corona-bedingten Situation erkennen zu k繹nnen. Zudem wird gepr羹ft, inwieweit die theoretischen Inflationserkl瓣rungen einen Anlass dazu geben, eine kommende Inflation zu bef羹rchten. Der abschlie?ende letzte Teil dieser Seminararbeit beantwortet schlussendlich die, eingangs erw瓣hnte, Fragestellung und gibt einen Ausblick auf den zuk羹nftigen Forschungsbedarf.

Measuring Development
This book discusses how to measure the level of development of an economy, particularly, the task of ranking economies in terms of their development. In this context, development is defined as an increase in people's level of wellbeing. The book emphasises that wellbeing is a multidimensional concept, and that it is important to ask how equitably the fruits of development are distributed, and as such it focuses on multidimensional, inequality-sensitive development ranking. The economic crisis set in motion new migration trends in southern European countries. In Portugal, post-crisis migration has occurred in two main directions: northwards to more prosperous European countries and southwards to former Portuguese colonies in Africa-notably oil-producing Angola. Security and Insecurity in Business History
Business history has so far examined the 'security' of enterprises primarily from the perspective of risk. The contributions in this volume apply the approach of historical security studies to business history and examine cases of dynamic historical negotiations of security since the late 19th century. In line with the assumptions of historical security research, we assume that the meaning of 'security' was negotiated in concrete historical situations and therefore cannot be explained solely from businesses' focus on market risks. Rather, their perception of risk and danger was governed by the historically changing 'grammar of security'.

Dazu wurde schwerpunktm瓣?ig deren Nutzung in der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise 2008/09 untersucht. Im Anschluss wurde der Einsatz in der aktuellen Corona-Krise eingeordnet. Als Ergebnis dieser Betrachtung konnte festgestellt werden, dass Kurzarbeit im Zusammenspiel mit anderen Ma?nahmen einen gro?en Beitrag zur Vermeidung von Entlassungen leistet und somit ein wirksames arbeitsmarktpolitisches Instrument in Krisen darstellt. Kurzarbeit hat in Deutschland eine lange Tradition. In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten wurde dieses arbeitsmarktpolitische Instrument vor allem in Krisenzeiten expansiv genutzt. In der aktuellen Corona-Krise findet die Zahl der von Kurzarbeit betroffenen Arbeitnehmer ihren bisherigen H繹hepunkt. Im April 2020 befanden sich knapp 6 Mio. Menschen in konjunktureller Kurzarbeit.

Accelerated Land Reform, Mining, Growth, Unemployment and Inequality in South Africa
The overarching goal of South Africa's National Development Plan (NDP) is to eliminate poverty, reduce inequality, lower unemployment and increase the labour participation.This book contributes to academic and policy efforts to achieve these NDP goals. We establish that the coal, metal ores and the platinum group commodity sectors will underpin the mining as a "sunrise" industry. The export-led growth strategy is necessary for intensive employment creation but must be complemented by other micro, macroeconomic and industrial policies. A strategy of minerals beneficiation is important for intensive employment creation. Accelerated land reform is a supply side or structural reform policy intervention tool aimed at increasing potential output, changing ownership patterns in the economy, increasing entrepreneurship, labour absorption, economic inclusion and lowering income inequality. Evidence shows that the balance sheet channel, commodity price booms and busts are intricately linked with the exchange rate dynamics, policy uncertainty, confidence and the effects of droughts (also symptoms of climate change). Productivity and investment growth shocks matter for output, employment and price stability. Evidence indicates that nominal GDP growth above 10 percent and keeping inflation within the target band leads to significant increase in employment and decline in unemployment, without inflationary pressures, especially when inflation is below 4.5 percent. To operationalise the NDP targets, align and co-ordinate policies, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) mandate can be expanded to include maximum employment. This must be complemented by lowering the inflation target band, adjusting the financial regulatory, macro-prudential and monetary policy frameworks. This will enhance the conduct and credibility of monetary and financial stability policies to achieve the set objectives. These objectives make policy co-ordination pertinent and binding.
Capital Flows, Credit Markets and Growth in South Africa
This book examines the dynamics in capital flows, credit markets and growth in South Africa. The authors explore the role of global economic growth, policy shifts and various economic policy uncertainties. Central banks in advanced economies are engaged in unconventional monetary policy tools such as balance sheet policies, negative interest rates and extended forward guidance to assist them to meet their price, financial and macro-economic stability objectives. This book determines whether BRICS GDP growth is a source of shocks or an amplifier of global growth shocks. The authors find that global economic growth and policy uncertainty reinforce each other via capital flows, credit conditions and business confidence on the domestic economy. Furthermore, they demonstrate that there is momentum in the changes in the spread between the repo rate and federal funds rate. In addition, global real policy rates impact domestic GDP growth and labor market conditions. The authors examine the economic costs of capital flow surges, sudden stops and elevated portfolio volatility shocks and their interaction with GDP growth and credit. They show that equity and debt inflows matter in the attainment of the price stability mandate. Moreover, business confidence transmits sovereign credit ratings upgrades and downgrades shocks to the real economy via GDP growth, the cost of government debt and borrowing to impact credit growth. High GDP growth increases the likelihood of sovereign credit ratings upgrades, hence policymakers should implement pro-growth policies. Inflation regimes impact the transmission of positive nominal demand shocks to the price level. Low and stable inflation (inflation below 4.5 per cent) reduces the pass-through of positive nominal demand shocks to inflation.

The Washington Consensus
The objective of the book is to evaluate critically the ten principles of the Washington Consensus, which govern the conditionality provisions of the IMF and World Bank, and guide the so-called economic reform in developing countries. The book starts with an overview of the Consensus, followed by a chapter on IMF conditionality and how they are related. Since the Consensus is inherently neoliberal, a chapter is devoted to a critique of the free market doctrine and the concept of economic freedom as seen by free marketeers. The ten principles of the Washington Consensus (referred to as the "ten commandments") are divided into four groups: fiscal reform, interest and exchange rate policies, liberalization of trade and foreign direct investment, and privatization and deregulation (including property rights).The book is written in the normative tradition of what ought to be, as opposed to the positive tradition of what is. While it may be tempting to describe the work as "polemic", the underlying issues contain such a significant moral component that pretending to be neutral would be a betrayal of justice and morality. In essence, the arguments put forward in the book are intended to dismantle, discredit and debunk a set of principles that are effectively used to loot developing countries.

This book, based on lectures on natural and environmental resource economics, offers a nontechnical exposition of the modern theory of sustainability in the presence of resource scarcity. It applies an alternative take on environmental economics, focusing on the economics of the natural environment, including development, computation, and potential empirical importance of the concept of option value, as opposed to the standard treatment of the economics of pollution control. The approach throughout is primarily conceptual and theoretical, though empirical estimation and results are sometimes noted. Mathematics, ranging from elementary calculus to more formal dynamic optimization, is used, especially in the early chapters on the optimal management of exhaustible and renewable resources, but results are always given an economic interpretation. OECD Development Co-Operation Peer Reviews: Germany 2021
The OECD's Development Assistance Committee (DAC) conducts reviews of the individual development co operation efforts of its members every five to six years. DAC peer reviews critically examine the overall performance of a given member covering its policy, programmes and systems. They take an integrated, system wide perspective on the development co operation activities of the member under review and its approach to fragility, crisis and humanitarian assistance. This peer review shows that Germany invests in fair and sustainable globalisation and a rules-based multilateral order. It provided 0.73% of its national income as official development assistance in 2020. The country is adjusting its engagement with Africa and reforming the way it delivers development co-operation. Germany could be more systematic in analysing and addressing the spill-over effects of its policies on developing countries. German development co-operation would benefit from a clearer vision and greater investment in gender equality and leaving no one behind, and embedding a culture of results. Its clear vision and comprehensive approach to crises would benefit from better defining short and long-term engagements.
